View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Studio Xps435MT connected to the internet through a 2Wire DSL modum using an ethernet cable. Installed a new hard drive last week after drive failure, Reinstalled Dell drivers and utilities using disc, then operating system, software, updated drivers, installed SP2.
Internet connection worked fine since then. Yesterday and from then on, Windows and modum will not recognize network adapters so not internet availability although device manager shows them working. Modum does work with my laptop so I can access internet through that.
Network and sharing shows unidentified network and limited connectivity IPv4 and 6, on IPv4 no default gateway or DNS server identified, no IPv6 gateway. Tried reinstalling modum but shows no network adapters identified.
Windows system info shows that intel 82567LF 2GB connection installed and reset today, default IP gateway not available.
I'm working on getting into Internet Connection Sharing (ICS from now one). I'm doing this for a number of reasons: I do have a network switch I hook my computer into. But, for a period of time each night, I have to unplug it. Don't ask me why. It's a long story. I do have wireless adapters that I use. However, they stopped being fully functional when we got a new wifi. But, we're not returning the wifi because all the laptops and smartphones can connect without any issues. Instead, I have opted to connect my desktop to my laptop via ICS and share the laptop's wifi. I was able to configure the IP addresses and Mask so that I could see the shared folders between the two computers. That's about as far as I got. How do I make it so the laptop shares it's internet connection with the desktop? [code]
I thought I might need to tweak the setting in ICS under the Settings button. But, I wasn't sure which IP address to use (most online instructions state that DHCP will assign the addresses and don't go in-depth or they have a rather bizarre IP setup).

When I attempt to connect to the internet on computer No.2 it will not connect.
1. Belkin setup page shows both computers in the DHCP client list
2. Tenda shows connection to the personal network
3. No internet connection icons in the tool bar. There is an internet connection icon on computer No.1 showing two computers and a bubble.
4. No icons in 'Network Connections'
5. In 'My Network Places' there is a Belkin Icon but when properties is clicked it says "This item is not currently on your network".I may have accidentally deleted icons from network connections or some of the associated folders.
went through setup twice, double checked connections, bought new ethernet cable from router to computer, still not connecting. However when i go from my modem to computer i get connected. could i have a faulty router. the router is new from walmart the ea2700.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded the firmware per one suggestion, but no difference.I am going thru the setup wizard with ethernet cable attached. I want to use them wirelessly so I clicked wireless setup, and entered my network info. At that point I get an error message saying it failed to save settings. I know the ID and password are correct.I have tried exiting the setup wizard and accessing the camera thru the web interface. All wireless settings are correct. The camera works FINE on web browser, myDlink, and even my iPhone app as long as the ethernet cable is attached.Other wireless devices have no trouble connecting to my router. Is there some setting on the router that can be preventing the connection? I've done some trial-and-error changes, like different ports and enabling/disabling UpNp on both camera and router.Oh and almost forgot to mention.I did call tech support, which was a joke. Some foreign lady was reading off a script that told me to reset, unplug, reboot everything. Then she gave me a case# and said upgrade the firmware.

I started having problems with conflicting IP's a couple days ago on one of my wired computers which was set for auto DHCP so I changed the settings and made it a static IP, this is when the problem started. I have Network Magic on all computers and even though it says I'm connected to the internet and the network, I am not able to get online. My other wired computer has been on Static IP for months and works fine.

BUT no matter how I've fiddled with the wireless settings I cannot get any of the laptops or mobile phones to connect wireless to the network.The Windows software on the laptops 'finds' the router OK but for some reason the router seems unwilling to supply an IP address.I've checked ALL of the settings that I can think of, and all are correct ... well, all are exactly the same as my old router which worked perfectly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection.Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses.When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.

After approx 2 hours on the phone to TalkTalk engineers and testing with another laptop, and getting my phone working by entering a password into my phone (that I believe was already in there), the guy said my laptop is bust due to something breaking inside that prevents connectivity. I cant remember what he called it now, maybe something like 'wireless connectors', but that could be totally wrong on my part.As I sidenote, I noticed the laptop took ages to reach the desktop screen, then the picture behind the icons had expanded slightly so I couldnt see the edges of the picture, and the icons were slightly fuzzy/blurry.

When I detached it the internet access to the desktop machine was not functioning. That was diagnosed as a problem with the I.P. address (presumably when i attached my laptop.) It was fixed over the phone through a START>RUN>CMd>config process. Now I find that my laptop won't connect to my NetGear home link (also cable) and wonder if the same problem might be happening, that connecting the laptop to the work network has scrambled it's recognition of the server or the I.P. address.I tried updating Kaspersky 2011 databases but it just keeps saying 'source not found'Another laptop using the same router connects perfectly each time.

When I'm connected via cable, I can access the internet perfectly well.However, if I try to connect using wireless, it can see the wireless router, asks for password, tells me I'm connected to the router - but it tells me that I'm in a local network only (can't find the internet). I've connected another laptop and a few smartphones to wireless, and they all work without any problem at all.I've done the usual take it all apart & start again, but it still comes back to the same problem.The only thing I wondered was that the new router is Wireless N, whereas the old laptop is a b/g - but we've got an older HTC smartphone that's only b/g and that doesn't have any problems.

But I have been having major issues with internet speed. I browsed through the forums and, as a result, updated my LAN driver with the latest driver for the Intel LAN Driver V17.3.0.0
I have the virgin media super hub with up to 60mbps download but rarely get over 20 and even then the download of webpages seems glitchy... on evenings it is terrible with 0.5 to 1.5mbps being the norm.The problem is also affecting Chrome which struggles to render maps and stream videos such as 720p videos on youtube even when I have a tested connection of 30ish. I usually resort to using Explorer, reducing videos to 360p or even 240p.I've reinstalled Chrome a few times but still no change.
What is going on??I also have an old Dell Inspiron laptop which works brilliantly with the fast internet - where the speed of the hardware is the only limiting factor.
Me and my family have a PC that runs on Windows Vista service pack one. We have it hooked up to the Internet (Verizon DSL). And knock on well it has a great connection and has never given us any problems.We run a LAN line on this connection. No wireless at all. Yes we are still in the stone age. Well the other day my mother gave my step daughter her laptop ( Dell Latitude D610, it has Windows XP service pack two on it). They had it set up for wireless. So, I disabled that connection and went to the LAN connection that was set up and enabled it. Everything was set to obtain a address. I hooked up a Ethernet cable that went from the DSL straight to the laptop. No connection at all, not even a local one.So then I read the other day that you could type in the IP, Subnet and Gateway address from the working PC into the laptop and things should work. Well, I did this. Yes, I did get a local connection but still nothing on the Internet side. Then I thought, hmm maybe it needs to be done threw a router. I had a NETGEAR (Fast Ethernet Switch) FS 108 so I hooked everything up to that.
My PC connection works great. Very fast. However the laptop still, no luck. I left the IP, Subnet and Gateway address the same on the laptop. At first I got a error message saying that there was two machines on the same network using the same IP address(or something to that effect). So, I went back to the lap top and clicked to obtain a address. And got no connection at all. No local or internet. On the laptop I have released and renewed using the various Ipconfig commands. I have pinged the new address and it was a success. That address is 169.254.181.107. I Pinged the Subnet and it too cam back a success. I tried pinging a web page and no luck at all. I also have power cycled everything. And still the same result. Oh and when I did the Ipconfig /renew to get the address above it never did give me a default gateway. It came up blank.The laptop did have Norton Internet protection on it so disabled it. Or at lest I think I did. I right clicked on it and disabled it. So, I think I did it right. I also disabled the windows firewall and still no luck.The PC connections work great and it's hooked up threw the router as well. Just having trouble with the laptop.I would run the Ipconfig /all cmd on the laptop, but as I said I cant hook it up to the computer nor do I have any recordable CD's or a usb drive.
I have a Netgear N300 wireless router. My laptop is Sonay Viao, running Windows 7.
This morning my internet was unreliable, and dropping every minute or so. Trying to trouble shoot, I switched the router off then on again. Now I have no wireless signal between my laptop and router. The router doesn't seem to be recognising the security password. I have not changed the password - this is still the original password for the router. Other devices are still talking wirelessly to the router.
Ran a diagnostics test and failed the Ping test. I'm using the university resident internet. Called the tech place and they said they're investigating their connections and networking thing on their end. Just in case though, I want to know if there's actually something wrong with my laptop rather than their equipment.

View 8 Replies View RelatedNew laptop, connected to my home network which is very stable and has no history of connection issues. After about 10 seconds the laptop drops the connection. Sometimes it'll come back for a while sometimes not, haven't observed any pattern in this yet, All I've done since starting the computer for the first time is installed all the junk that comes with it (Nero stuff mostly) and installed all windows updates (there were over 60 of them) and AVG Free edition. Before doing all that the connection was still not right but it did hold for a lot longer than 10 seconds. It held for over an hour downloading programs like Itunes, AVG and Firefox, Going to control panel > network sharing centre when the connection is down I see the yellow exclamation mark between my computer and my network. Troubleshooting this resets the network adapter, gives me the error 'The default gateway is not available' and says that it is fixed. The connection then works again for about 10 seconds and drops once more.

However when my son tries to connect to my internet connection wirelessly his laptop does not detect my internet connection (I think) and consequently can not connect to the internet. We have tried to have him sit right next to the router and hopefully pick up a signal but that does not work either so I am guessing it is not a signal strength issue.
I have read some things about setting up a network and adding him but it seems strange that I would have to do that when he can go to his friends houses and pick up their connection without a problem or without being added to a network.
