View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a hobby network at home, the structure of which follows:*Modem * - active SPI firewall -- Then the E4200 distributes data via wifi to/between the following machines --*Server - providing services such as http, FTP, VPN, Mail, MySQL, OpenDirectory, Plex media server, etc.*Two other workstations that access their user details/settings from open directory on the server. Now the purpose of this network other than providing standard access to Internet services from within the LAN is to provide access to the services maintained on my server to users on my LAN when they leave it/go mobile. Now with my limited knowledge of networking I have been using port forwarding to direct service requests through the firewall, however I have found with the E4200 that I have a limited number of custom port fields to use (about 15) which is extremely limiting when I have as many potential services that my server can provide.I could move the Server to a DMZ but then dosen't that put all my other services that have no need to be exposed at unnecessary risk.Do I need to invest in a separate hardware firewall and put it after the modem and before the router?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had to clean up a laptop of a few years worth of crap and no protection on the machine.i had to do the disk clean up in safe mode as it ran far too slowly to do anything without a monumental level of patience, the problem i have now is that the computer doesnt seem to be picking up the wireless network around the house even though other units laptops are working fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron I got last July that has Windows 7.It had been working well but the started to say there were no Wifi signals.. when I knew there was from the other computers and such. I would start up diagnosis and it would fix for say half hour, then I would do it again and each time only for a short time, reducing each time. The same happened when I disabled or even deleted and reinstall programme the wifi adapter (which it always had a pop up saying it didnt do it properly). It also keeps saying to plug in to wifi which works but doesnt solve the wifi issue.I even had my father in law who was an IT guy look at it and no clue.I am desperate to get it fixed as I have lots of assignments to be getting on with.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I bought a new netgear router. It has two separate wireless signals. One is the main wireless connection for my computers. The other is a slower backup network for smartphones, apple tv, and guests. All of the other devices in the house can find both signals, but my main PC is only finding the backup network. It works fine for general browsing, but is very slow for downloads and unusable for gaming

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a centrally managed wireless hotspot system. But the system has a few requirements. I have been looking around but so far I have not found a system that ticks all the boxes?
-The system (AP's) needs to be centrally managed (except for the internet connections, each site will use its own outgoing connection to the internet).
-The system needs to have some kind of ticket system for guest access (hotspot).
-It also needs to be able to identify employees so they can pass through without needing a ticket, everywhere they go.
forgot password for Linksys WRT54G2 and can't connect wife's new Ipad; i'm not real popular at the moment. went on cisco site and they gave a technique where you input IP address and a screen is supposed to pop up with a "wireless" tab, then give access to another tab where you can view your pw.BTW, if I reset it entirely do I have to reset each of the computers now hooked up to it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedA retailer (Best Buy's Geek Squad) made adjustments to my Linksys E3000 router when I bought a Sony Media Player from them a number of months ago. It was the first wireless device integrated into my wired LAN network (three computers).
In attempting to set up a GUEST connection, I pulled up Cisco Connect which I originally used to set up my network. The BB Geek didn't use a key and followed a different procedure unknown to me.
As I face the Cisco Connect screen now, it tells me "Can't access your router settings. The router password has been changed." Then in the "Router password" block, it gives the original password I assigned.
I had written another name I thought was associated with the changes made by the BB Geek so I copied the password there now, inserted the new PW, and clicked Next. I was then asked if I wanted to proceed with the change ... but the change it was proposing was the exact PW I just copied. Confused, I cancelled the operation.
