View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded the OS on my laptop to Windows 7, which wiped out most of my older Vista settings. When I try to connect to my home network, I am prompted for a security key (network key?). How do I find the security key? I can't find any of the paperwork that came with my router.
By the way, I am currently using my desktop, running under Windows XP.
My wife has a laptop that we want hooked up to the internet through our linksys wireless router. But I cannot remember my security key or passphrase needed to get her on the connection. How do I recover, or find, it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a hobby network at home, the structure of which follows:*Modem * - active SPI firewall -- Then the E4200 distributes data via wifi to/between the following machines --*Server - providing services such as http, FTP, VPN, Mail, MySQL, OpenDirectory, Plex media server, etc.*Two other workstations that access their user details/settings from open directory on the server. Now the purpose of this network other than providing standard access to Internet services from within the LAN is to provide access to the services maintained on my server to users on my LAN when they leave it/go mobile. Now with my limited knowledge of networking I have been using port forwarding to direct service requests through the firewall, however I have found with the E4200 that I have a limited number of custom port fields to use (about 15) which is extremely limiting when I have as many potential services that my server can provide.I could move the Server to a DMZ but then dosen't that put all my other services that have no need to be exposed at unnecessary risk.Do I need to invest in a separate hardware firewall and put it after the modem and before the router?

View 4 Replies View RelatedA retailer (Best Buy's Geek Squad) made adjustments to my Linksys E3000 router when I bought a Sony Media Player from them a number of months ago. It was the first wireless device integrated into my wired LAN network (three computers).
In attempting to set up a GUEST connection, I pulled up Cisco Connect which I originally used to set up my network. The BB Geek didn't use a key and followed a different procedure unknown to me.
As I face the Cisco Connect screen now, it tells me "Can't access your router settings. The router password has been changed." Then in the "Router password" block, it gives the original password I assigned.
I had written another name I thought was associated with the changes made by the BB Geek so I copied the password there now, inserted the new PW, and clicked Next. I was then asked if I wanted to proceed with the change ... but the change it was proposing was the exact PW I just copied. Confused, I cancelled the operation.
I have the WRT160N router for 3.5 yrs and it's worked perfectly since installing it. About two weeks ago it began intermittently dropping cable connection. First few times I thought I could resolve it by unplugging/plugging router & modem so they can "re-syn" to the cable connection. That still works but now it occurs sometimes multiple times within a few minutes/hours and then won't happen again for an entire day/days. The other day I had connectivity but instead of the usual 5 bars I only had 3 while using my laptop in the same spot in the house as usual.
View 5 Replies View RelatedCurrently my Version 2. linksys wireeless router wouldn't reset it's IP and will NOT connect to the IP listed in my ipconfig,
I'm paranoid that it's something I've downloaded... even though that I'm always careful not to get anything off mistrustful websites! As soon as I download Kill Bill for my gf everything just goes straight to.... ! Would a file even be able to dis-able a router wireless capability? None. of my computers are infected but this is still seriously questionable.
I press this **bleep** button daily for 30 seconds and nothing is reset. My default gateway will not connect and the IP from webpages that show users their IP fail
I'm not sure if I should update the firmware because even if I could my ip.... doesn't persist

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my Wi-Fi router to an EA3500 and am controlling it using Smart Wi-Fi running on a wired Windows 7 machine. So far, I have been able to add devices to the network without issue and each of those connections works fine. All, except my TV, have been Windows 7 based machines. Smart Wi-Fi Device List has been able to "see" each device and I have been able to add them to that list as well.
I am attempting to add a Windows 8 desktop computer to the network which is using a external USB wireless adapter. That computer can see and connect to the network through the EA3500 and the connection seems to work fine. The only issue is that its adapter does not show up in the Device List.
1) Does the Device List do anything else besides showing a list of devices I chosen to add to my network?
2) How do I get my Windows 8 wireless adapter to show up in the Device List?
I just purchased a befsr41. i have wireless internet so there is no modem to plug into. when i try to setup wizard it gets all the way to checking computer staus, then at 99% it says it cannot find router. i have pinged the router following the instructions on this site and the computer found the router, but when i tryed to go to browser to go to site it won't let me on any pages. i have found that while router is plugged in i can't access internet, but the set up disc can't locate the router. why wouldn't the set up wizard find router? and i am using win 7 with xp capable.
