Home Network :: Chain Gateways On The LAN

Oct 13, 2012

I installed m0n0wall in a virtualized environment, i have 10 PCs connected to a router ( which connect them to the internet through PPPoE, the problem is that this router does not have a QoS so what i want to do is the following :-

let all the PCs get their IP from the Router and the default gateway will be m0n0wall

the moon wall will have 2 interface (Lan and (Wan and default gateway

now when any PC want to access the internet it should go through m0n0wall and then m0n0wall will forward the connection to the default gateway through the wan interface which is the PPPoE running on the router (

Two Gateways On One Network?

Jul 25, 2012

I've got a network with the following address and subnet mask:

The original gateway that we had on the network is at:

This gateway is a Netgear VPN firewall and it also has a bit of port forwarding going on to a couple of servers on the network. We've now had a new line put in and we have to use different hardware on that line so in order to phase that in, I've set this up as a new gateway at:

Internally, the clients and servers are quite happy with this and will happily use the new line.Problem arises when users connect via VPN to the OLD gateway (I haven't got VPN set up on the new one yet). Users can still connect to the VPN but can't see any machine that is using the new gateway. How can I get around that? Does the old gateway need a static route?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASA5505 / Network Design With Multiple Gateways?

Apr 11, 2013

remote location on MPLS circuit terminated on a Cisco router that has Internet connectivity through Central Site router.  We are installing a cable modem at the remote location that is to be used  as the Primary Internet Connection but still be able to use Internet through MPLS if the cable Internet goes down.  We want the failover/fallback to be handled automatically.
We have an ASA5505 for the cable Internet which then feeds into the ISPs modem.
At first I was thinking about getting a module for the remote router so the cable Internet could be terminated on the remote router as well but that introduces a single point of failure.  I would also like to firewall both the MPLS and the cable Internet but if I do so on the ASA there is another single point of failure.

Home Network :: Advanced Home Network Setup (3 Subnets) And Port Forwarding?

Feb 24, 2013

I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc). The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:

- The E3000 has a IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the as the gateway and web-interface

Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range. That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.

- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the and IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.

- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP

Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (, Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.

Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)

Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).

Home Network :: Need To Extend Reach Of Wifi Network At Home

Upstairs on the 1st and 2nd floor of the house are many devices in which wifi is fine or preferred. Here's the problem: As you might guess, wifi is weak upstairs and certainly on the patio and 2nd floor. I have an access point upstairs that I've experimented with but it is flaky.

Home Network :: Need Input On Network At Home Newly Wired

Jan 14, 2012

I am a new student in networking, taking the CCNA courses, and now want to rewire my home. I currently have a cable modem and E2500 setup running my network. I want to get the modem and router out of my computer room and in the basement where the cable enters the house. I want to do this to clean up the computer room wiring a bit and to run line drops to different rooms in the house where the internet will be utilized.Currently there are two PC's, a laptop, a tablet, sometimes a phone, and an XBOX using the internet. I want to get my printer back up and running on the network but thats another story. Only one PC is currently hardwired. I would like to run two cables into the room with the PC and XBOX that are currently using wireless, at least two into the computer room for the PC and network printer, and one or two into the living room for the blue ray player and possibly an internet tv.

Possible To Have Two Routers Coming Off Another / Does It Need To Be Proper Chain

Feb 17, 2011

I live in a house with four other people so I need a lot of free ethernet ports.I currently have three routers daisy-chained together and I want to add a fourth, but I can't seem to.When I plug it up, pages refuse to load on computers connected to it. I read something about disabling DHCP, but I have two other routers chained to my primary and didn't need to do that. This one's branching off the main one though, instead of being at the end of the chain.I'm trying to hook up either the Linksys 4-port wired router or the 8-port one (I have both). I tried disabling DHCP on it and setting the IP thing to instead of and it worked for a few minutes, then nothing.I also tried that with the TRENDnet one and the same thing happened (had to reset that one to factory defaults). Is it possible to have two routers coming off another or does it need to be a proper chain? Why did I not have to disable DHCP on the others and they still work fine?

To aid me in troubleshooting my L2L VPN setup could someone indicate if the order of events (listed below) is correct for ASA 5520 with IOS 8.x and if the attributes selected are available for L2L VPN clients? Also, are there "show" commands to reveal more details about tunnel-groups, group-policy, etc. when used with VPNs?

I have a milestone VMS (video management system) server running on a customers site. The server has two network cards. eth0 has a static IP, mask, gateway (the gateway is a firewall connected to the internet via an eircom modem in bridged mode) eth1 has a static IP, mask gateway all the cameras and related equipment are in the range ~ 20 Customers network users what to view the VMS via an application which needs to run on their PC and connect to the VMS server on, The customer has given me a gateway address of However when I use this gateway address in the default gateway of eth1 I loose internet access on the server because the server can not resolve the DNS address. The cusotmers users can see the VMS and the monitoring station can see the VMS via a VPN. However I need internet access otherwise Teamviewer will not work and I can not access the server for configuration and maintenance remotely. Is there some other way I can implant the customers gateway so they have access but I still have internet on the server.

Home Network :: Playing MPEG-2 File In Webpage From Home Server?

Dec 20, 2012

I have setup a webserver on my home PC and I have forwarded port 80 on my router to the IP adress of the PC that is running the web server. The web server is working great; I can get to my web pages from outside of my home by going to http://MyIpAddress/Anyway, the problem is with the Windows Media Player plugin I'm using. I want to embed 6GB MPEG-2 videos into my web pages. I have some videos on my PC and I want to be able to watch them remotely by connecting into my web page. It works fine when I'm at home; other PCs can connect and play the videos no problem. The problem is when I'm at work. When I'm at work, I go to my web page (via my IP address in a web browser) and the Media Player plugin says "Connecting" for a minute, then it says Ready, but the video will not play. I tried using a smaller, AVI file (680 MB) instead to see if the problem was streaming such a large file, but the video still would not play.Do I need to foward more ports on my router so that Windows Media Player can connect back and get the information it needs?

Protocols / Routing :: Connect Two Net On Same Lan With Two Gateways

Apr 28, 2012

I have two different networks on same LAN.One net has public 2xx.x.x.x IPs (some on DMZ, they are servers with their own internal firewalling) and goes through a GBeth switch to a Cisco 25xx router for accessing HDSL modem with several HDSL trunks and then Internet. That router is configured to let external IPs access only DMZ IPs, of course. The other net has 192.168.x.x IPs and goes through another GBeth switch to a DLink router to access ADSL. Mainly for download traffic at a low flat cost.I would like to have a way to let the 192.x.x.x machines access the servers on the DMZ of the 2xx.x.x.x net without going outside the physical LAN. The servers host mail services and so sending heavy attached documents needs a hi-speed LAN connection and certainly not the ADSL upload capability. Not to say about servers web contents maintenance.

Home Network :: Unique Situation With Home Network

Mar 9, 2013

My Set up at home is as follows: [code] Now according to what I have read I should be able to set the subnet on .2.0 network to a subnet of 254 and this gives me 512 Hosts I believe however my question at this point is how to route between and when I set the subnet .254 does the router just route it automatically.I would still set the subnet mask on both networks to 254 correct? I believe I can only use to w/.254 subnet mask. However I already have some servers that are configured with applications (On the network) that I do not want to change ips on because it would be a pain to reconfigure so, my other question is other than using .252 to extend it to to, (I need the is there anything I can do? Like use with subnet mask of to get the network? The reason I asked is I was using a subnet calculator to try and figure this out but every time I put in with .254 subnet mask it changed the ip to to 192. 168. 1. 255.I would really like to use the netgear only. The way I have it now is not working I am able to ping the internet from the network but I can't ping from network to the network.
