Home Network :: Chain Gateways On The LAN

I installed m0n0wall in a virtualized environment, i have 10 PCs connected to a router ( 192.168.1.0/24) which connect them to the internet through PPPoE, the problem is that this router does not have a QoS so what i want to do is the following :-
let all the PCs get their IP from the Router and the default gateway will be m0n0wall
the moon wall will have 2 interface (Lan 192.168.1.20) and (Wan 192.168.1.21 and default gateway 192.168.1.1)
now when any PC want to access the internet it should go through m0n0wall and then m0n0wall will forward the connection to the default gateway through the wan interface which is the PPPoE running on the router (192.168.1.1)

I've got a network with the following address and subnet mask:
xxx.17.0.0
255.255.0.0
The original gateway that we had on the network is at:
xxx.17.0.254
This gateway is a Netgear VPN firewall and it also has a bit of port forwarding going on to a couple of servers on the network. We've now had a new line put in and we have to use different hardware on that line so in order to phase that in, I've set this up as a new gateway at:
xxx.17.1.254
Internally, the clients and servers are quite happy with this and will happily use the new line.Problem arises when users connect via VPN to the OLD gateway (I haven't got VPN set up on the new one yet). Users can still connect to the VPN but can't see any machine that is using the new gateway. How can I get around that? Does the old gateway need a static route?

I have sent up a wireless network in a large building using WAG120N Modem Router and four E1000 wireless routers set as access points. The E1000's have the DHCP switched off to enable roaming so the WAG120N takes care of all that.

remote location on MPLS circuit terminated on a Cisco router that has Internet connectivity through Central Site router. We are installing a cable modem at the remote location that is to be used as the Primary Internet Connection but still be able to use Internet through MPLS if the cable Internet goes down. We want the failover/fallback to be handled automatically.
We have an ASA5505 for the cable Internet which then feeds into the ISPs modem.
At first I was thinking about getting a module for the remote router so the cable Internet could be terminated on the remote router as well but that introduces a single point of failure. I would also like to firewall both the MPLS and the cable Internet but if I do so on the ASA there is another single point of failure.

I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc). The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:
- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface
Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range. That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.
- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.
- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.
Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.
Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)
Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).

Here's the layout: Cable modem in the basement. Several devices in which I'd prefer a wired connection in the basement. Upstairs on the 1st and 2nd floor of the house are many devices in which wifi is fine or preferred. Here's the problem: As you might guess, wifi is weak upstairs and certainly on the patio and 2nd floor. I have an access point upstairs that I've experimented with but it is flaky.

I am a new student in networking, taking the CCNA courses, and now want to rewire my home. I currently have a cable modem and E2500 setup running my network. I want to get the modem and router out of my computer room and in the basement where the cable enters the house. I want to do this to clean up the computer room wiring a bit and to run line drops to different rooms in the house where the internet will be utilized.Currently there are two PC's, a laptop, a tablet, sometimes a phone, and an XBOX using the internet. I want to get my printer back up and running on the network but thats another story. Only one PC is currently hardwired. I would like to run two cables into the room with the PC and XBOX that are currently using wireless, at least two into the computer room for the PC and network printer, and one or two into the living room for the blue ray player and possibly an internet tv.

I have a D-Link DGL-4500 router and my landlord recently ungraded our internet connection. However, now I get this error message when I try to hook it up to the ethernet hub,"The addressing of the Internet side learnt thru DHCP conflicts with the addressing selected for the LAN side. Internet communications will be disabled until you have changed the LAN side addressing to resolve the problem."

I live in a house with four other people so I need a lot of free ethernet ports.I currently have three routers daisy-chained together and I want to add a fourth, but I can't seem to.When I plug it up, pages refuse to load on computers connected to it. I read something about disabling DHCP, but I have two other routers chained to my primary and didn't need to do that. This one's branching off the main one though, instead of being at the end of the chain.I'm trying to hook up either the Linksys 4-port wired router or the 8-port one (I have both). I tried disabling DHCP on it and setting the IP thing to 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.168.1.1 and it worked for a few minutes, then nothing.I also tried that with the TRENDnet one and the same thing happened (had to reset that one to factory defaults). Is it possible to have two routers coming off another or does it need to be a proper chain? Why did I not have to disable DHCP on the others and they still work fine?

I read in the Cisco IOS ASA documentation (8.x) that some group-policy attribues are only available for soft-VPN clients while some are available for both soft-VPN clients and L2L VPN clients. Cisco didn't clearly specify which attributes were available for which clients.
To aid me in troubleshooting my L2L VPN setup could someone indicate if the order of events (listed below) is correct for ASA 5520 with IOS 8.x and if the attributes selected are available for L2L VPN clients? Also, are there "show" commands to reveal more details about tunnel-groups, group-policy, etc. when used with VPNs?

I have a milestone VMS (video management system) server running on a customers site. The server has two network cards. eth0 has a static IP 10.0.15.250, mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 10.0.15.254 (the gateway is a firewall connected to the internet via an eircom modem in bridged mode) eth1 has a static IP 10.94.238.2, mask 255.255.0.0 gateway all the cameras and related equipment are in the range 10.94.238.1 ~ 20 Customers network users what to view the VMS via an application which needs to run on their PC and connect to the VMS server on 10.94.238.2, The customer has given me a gateway address of 10.94.200.1. However when I use this gateway address in the default gateway of eth1 I loose internet access on the server because the server can not resolve the DNS address. The cusotmers users can see the VMS and the monitoring station can see the VMS via a VPN. However I need internet access otherwise Teamviewer will not work and I can not access the server for configuration and maintenance remotely. Is there some other way I can implant the customers gateway so they have access but I still have internet on the server.

I have the following problem:
I ordered a certificate from Geotrust. Geotrust signed my certificate with an intermediate certificate. The problem that ASA needs the Geotrust global ceritificate to be installed to accept my device certificate (intermediate certificate needs to be authenticated as well). When I install my device certificate on the firewall I got this error:
"ERROR: Failed to parse or verify imported ceritificate"
I do not know the way how to add two authentication certificate on ASA. I need similar solution like this: [URL]
So the question how to arrange the installed certificates into chain on Cisco ASA.
My firewall frimware/type is: Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.3(2)
Hardware: ASA5520, 2048 MB RAM, CPU Pentium 4 Celeron 2000 MHz

Here is the configuration at branch office.Things are working fine until now. The branch office has a DSL internet connection and required to be shared among the users. option 1 (problem)DSL terminate on swtich and all clients have a DSL modem as their default gateway and ISP's DNS. Internet works fine but here comes the problem, now they lost the connectivity with head office. Now my question is i cant have two default gateways then what should i do?
I bought dlink dir615 router and want to configure in such a way that internet terminate on dir 615 and branch office pc's should be able to use the internet as well as get connected with the head office with default gateway configuration.

I have setup a webserver on my home PC and I have forwarded port 80 on my router to the IP adress of the PC that is running the web server. The web server is working great; I can get to my web pages from outside of my home by going to http://MyIpAddress/Anyway, the problem is with the Windows Media Player plugin I'm using. I want to embed 6GB MPEG-2 videos into my web pages. I have some videos on my PC and I want to be able to watch them remotely by connecting into my web page. It works fine when I'm at home; other PCs can connect and play the videos no problem. The problem is when I'm at work. When I'm at work, I go to my web page (via my IP address in a web browser) and the Media Player plugin says "Connecting" for a minute, then it says Ready, but the video will not play. I tried using a smaller, AVI file (680 MB) instead to see if the problem was streaming such a large file, but the video still would not play.Do I need to foward more ports on my router so that Windows Media Player can connect back and get the information it needs?

The intermediate certificate isn't downloaded from the ACE 4710 resulting in a "SSL Certificate Not Trusted" error.Since GoDaddy has no instructions to resolve the issue from a Cisco ACE.

We our currently using site-to-site VPN tunnels to connect our multiple offices using static public IP's via ADSL connections. We wanted to get an additional ADSL connection from a different ISP so that if one connection drops, the other could be used. Are there any hardware devices or tricks we can use to automatically get our networks to failover to use the backup ADSL connection and have our VPN traffic remain up?

I have two different networks on same LAN.One net has public 2xx.x.x.x IPs (some on DMZ, they are servers with their own internal firewalling) and goes through a GBeth switch to a Cisco 25xx router for accessing HDSL modem with several HDSL trunks and then Internet. That router is configured to let external IPs access only DMZ IPs, of course. The other net has 192.168.x.x IPs and goes through another GBeth switch to a DLink router to access ADSL. Mainly for download traffic at a low flat cost.I would like to have a way to let the 192.x.x.x machines access the servers on the DMZ of the 2xx.x.x.x net without going outside the physical LAN. The servers host mail services and so sending heavy attached documents needs a hi-speed LAN connection and certainly not the ADSL upload capability. Not to say about servers web contents maintenance.

Every time I connect to my home network with iPhone 4 my whole network stops working. Windows 7 is not reporting any problems with connection, nor is my router. I have cable connection with my PC and wireless with my laptop, they both just stop working without any visible reason. Even the iphone i connect with wont work, but of course it says its connected and everything is ok.I tought it was an iOS 5 problem, so I reinstalled it. It worked for an hour then its all back again. I even tried sharing my PC conection so that my iPhone is connected to PC and not directly to router. But that produced the same results.

My Set up at home is as follows: [code] Now according to what I have read I should be able to set the subnet on .2.0 network to a subnet of 254 and this gives me 512 Hosts I believe however my question at this point is how to route between 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0.Or when I set the subnet .254 does the router just route it automatically.I would still set the subnet mask on both networks to 254 correct? I believe I can only use 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.255 w/.254 subnet mask. However I already have some servers that are configured with applications (On the 192.168.2.0 network) that I do not want to change ips on because it would be a pain to reconfigure so, my other question is other than using .252 to extend it to 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.3.255, (I need the 192.168.2.0) is there anything I can do? Like use 192.168.1.0 with subnet mask of 255.255.254.0 to get the 192.168.2.0 network? The reason I asked is I was using a subnet calculator to try and figure this out but every time I put in 192.168.1.0 with .254 subnet mask it changed the ip to 192.168.0.1 to 192. 168. 1. 255.I would really like to use the netgear only. The way I have it now is not working I am able to ping the internet from the 192.168.1.0 network but I can't ping from 192.168.2.0 network to the 192.168.1.0 network.

At the moment I have my home network (192.168.0.0/24) like as below (all connect using straight cables): [code] My Cisco lab equipment are in the basement all connecting to an access server which at the moment is plugged into Switch3-dumb (along with a printer & NAS).What I'm thinking is to replace the Switch3-dumb with a 3550 I'll be picking up later this week. Then using this to do as the Switch3-dumb did maybe by creating a native 'vlan 192' & putting it into a gig interface which will connect to the network using the straight cable, also putting the printer & NAS into the same vlan. This will hopefully still give me connectivity throughout. Then when required I'll like to use the 3550 with the rest of my Cisco equipment for setting up different labs (segmenting them from the home network by using different vlans etc.One of my reasons to implement the 3550 into the home network is to be able to play about on a regular basis (port monitor, traffic stats, etc).

My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great. There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again

3. A modem, UTStarcom WA3002G4 with an internet connection from BSNL.The modem is a wireless modem.
I want to be able to connect the laptop and the desktop in a single LAN connection, so that
i)I may play NFS Most Wanted on both the laptop and desktop through the LAN play.
ii) I may share files and folders, fast and without any hassles.
