View 1 Replies View RelatedTwo physical drives. Drive 0 has two partitions C and D. C is operating system (XP Pro) and D is data only. Drive 1 has one partition F and is used for internal backup. Drive F can be set to be shared. Partition D on Drive 0 will not accept sharing. It reverts back to the $D admin share after setting up a new share. The icon (hand) that indicates shared drive does not appear either. I assume there is a registry setting that has drive 1 blocked, but am unable to find it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a WES610N in my office connected to a E4200 @ the cable modem in the family room. ~30'.The connection is fine and works well when working.Connected to the WES610N I have:
-Polycom VOIP phone
-HP Mediasmart Windows Home Server
-Desktop
-Multi-Function Laser Printer
I have two issues.
1) The Polycom does a random reboot that I have traced down to it loosing it's IP
2) The Windows Home Server looses it's IP requireing a hard reset.
I have enabled QOS for the polycom and that just worked with managing data. However both devices seem to loose their IP regularly. The desktop might also be having the issue but because it is Vista I suspect Vista is better equipped to deal with IP issues.
I am a avid fan of Linksys routers i blindly go buy it. But one feature which i feel isn't there on linksys is the ability to start downloads on the router and also peer to peer capability such as torrents. Asus routers have this and it works flawlessly love to have this feature on the Linksys routers. This is one and only request i ask for in firmware update?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I combine two (or more) physical drives into one on an XP based machine? I have an older machine I want to essentially use as a NAS type device over my home network to stream content from, but want all the installed drives to essentially be "merged" together to show as just one if possible. I think its sometimes referred to as "disk pooling". I have XP Pro available to install so maybe this has something built-in that can easily handle this task. It also needs to be done on an XP based machine (not Linux) due to some other specialized software that will be running on it for another reason and is for XP only. Basically, any suggestions on how to have some sort of 'disk pooling' for 2+ drives on an XP machine? Can it simply be done within XP Pro? Or maybe there is some sort of free software out there that can handle this. This machine currently doesn't have any important data on it so experimenting and wiping something out can be done if needed.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been asked to install a ASA5505 on a home network. The home network has a home broadband connection which the ISP provider supplies with an IP address. This is only for 6 weeks until the new line comes in. I know this is going to cause problems but we have no choice but to impletment this.
My questions are below.
1, We have a home hub supplied by the ISP which is configured by an IP address which is NOT static. Can we not use the ASA 5505 instead. I know that if our ISP change the IP address we have to change the IP address on the 5505.
2, Will we be able to use the home network broadband to create a secure connection?
I have in a workgroup a Windows 7 Ultimate X64 laptop and a Windows XP Pro SP3 desktop PC. If i try to share a partition from W7 i can see it over network in XP but i can't access the files or folders from it, the error being this one: "\ComputerNamePartitionName is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if yout have access permissions. Access is denied." In W7 i've set Everybody with full access (read and write); both computers have Windows Firewall and BitDefender Internet Security installed on them but doesn't seems to be important since i've tried to use the shared partition from W7 with Firewalls and BitDefenders On and Off and the problem was the same!
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is troubling and I don't know why it is happening. For some odd reason files seemingly related to my DIR-655 are being put in the root directory of my hard drive on my Power Mac G5 running Leopard 10.5.8. Two preference files and a folder named ''D-Link'' and another folder named ''Shareport.''Why is this happening? I have given D-Link/DIR-655 no access to my hard drive.Furthermore, why this is only happening on that machine while my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.7 is not being ''invaded.''

View 8 Replies View Relatedpartition the departmental IP network address block to create a staff and a student subnet. Each of these will be identified by its own network address and netmask. It is university policy that you must be economical with the IP addresses. That is, the subnets must be as small as possible, but they must be large enough to accommodate the maximum number of hosts you were given. Also, it is university policy that the respective gateway router to the outside world should always be given the highest possible host IP address in the subnet. The student subnet should have a higher IP network address than the staff subnet. The network must be able to support up to 60 machines on the staff subnet (not counting the router) and up to 120 machines on the student subnet (also not counting the router).
IP address/netmask
University network address127.158.128.0
University network mask255.255.192.0
University internet gateway IP address127.158.191.254
Department network mask255.255.254.0
Department router address127.158.129.254
Suppose that the network address of the departmental network is 127.158.128.0 (calculated by AND between Dep network mask and Dep router address)I know that 60 machines would use 6 bits for the staff subnet.the netmask of staff would be 255.255.255.192.how can I figure out the the IP network address of the staff subnet.I have worked out the range for the staff subnetwork.
127.158.128.0 - 127.158.128.63
127.158.128.1 = Gateway address
127.158.128.63 = Broadcast address
Now how can I calculate the IP network address of the staff subnet?

I finally was able to connect two of my computers up to share files. The only problem is My Win7 computer can't see the xp computer although the Xp can see the Seven. When I first set it up Explorer showed the name of the Xp but when I clicked on it the dialog said it couldn't find the computer. The Xp name was in all caps and when I checked on the Xp the name was all lower case so I tried to change the name. When I tried, the OK button was grayed out so I went in to So I clicked on More and was able (I thought) to change the name there. I had to reboot and when I did the computer had just appended the DNS entry I had to give to the original lowercase name.
I was finally able to rename the XP computer! I changed the name to NETBOOK all caps like I had originally thought it was. BUT it makes no difference to the Win7 machine it still can't see the XP machine. I did a refresh and the Xp's name NETBOOK showed up But I am still back where I started from because when I click on it a dialog box just says that it can't access ||NETBOOK.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop suddenly stopped being able to conect to my home wifi router. It stays at "waiting for network to be ready" while at the back the wifi list stays at "acquiring network adress" for a couple of minutes and then resets to regular disconnected status. All my other wireless gadgets at home can connect with no problem whatsoever.Wifi strength is great and, when disabling security, the laptop connects without a hitch and very quickly. I tried all possible security combinations the router can give me, always using a second wifi device to check if connection and browsing was possible.I tried everything I googled: drivers, firmwares, ipconfig reset renew, started and stopped services, to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Win 7 pro 64 bit on a new computer / hard drive. I can connect to my router which is hardwired to a computer running Win XP Pro 32 bit, but I can't figure out how to connect to my printer which is on that same network. I can access the internet, just not the printer - which is connected via Ethernet to the router.Is is possible that because Win7 is 64bit and the other computers on the network are 32 bit running XPpro - that it won't work? I have another XP pro computer that is connected via wireless that accesses the printer just fine.I have a netgear USB adapter on both the WinXP computer and also the Win7.Win7 is foreign to me. I can't find anywhere where I would 'join' the mshome network. It asks me about them joining ME.
