Cisco Firewall :: Installing ASA5505 On Home Network For VPN Connection?

Feb 25, 2013

I have been asked to install a ASA5505 on a home network. The home network has a home broadband connection which the ISP provider supplies with an IP address. This is only for 6 weeks until the new line comes in. I know this is going to cause problems but we have no choice but to impletment this.

My questions are below.

1, We have a home hub supplied by the ISP which is configured by an IP address which is NOT static. Can we not use the ASA 5505 instead. I know that if our ISP change the IP address we have to change the IP address on the 5505.

2, Will we be able to use the home network broadband to create a secure connection?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 - Setting Up For Home DSL Use?

Mar 4, 2012

I have a cisco asa 5505 firewall, and I have a normal home ADSL broadband router, the router currently connects via wireless to my pc.What I would like to do is basically connect the asa to my pc, then my router to my firewall.what the best thing to do here, run the aa in transparent mode, OR routed mode and do NAT on the firewall to the private ip address range of my router.
OR, would it be possible to get the outside interface of my asa to get DHCP from my broadband router so it will use a 192.168.1.x address on the outside, and then turn NAT off?

Cisco VPN :: ASA5505 - Can't Make Tunnel Connection From LAN Home Side

Oct 6, 2011

I have an ASA 5505 with Base license and a vpn client. The scenario is like this: LAN -- ASA 5505 -- ISP DSL Router---( Internet ) -- Home DSL Router --- LAN -- VPN CLient, The ISP DSL Router gets a public IP address and the ASA gets a private IP address (ISP DSL router doing NAT) and I cant reach the internet with no problem from the LAN´s ASA side but I cant make the vpn tunnel connection from the LAN´s Home side so I told the provider to bridge the ISP DSL Router, to the ASA so the ASA could get the public IP but in order to do that the provider told me to do MAC clonning on the ASA 5505 which I did putting the ISP DSL Router MAC on the ASA. Now the ASA gets the public IP on the outside vlan by DHCP but when I try to make the VPN tunnel I just cannt. I can reach the public IP by ping on the ASA and I can see the pings coming in using debug but I just cant make the vpn client work.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 - Can't Get Home Webserver Published To Outside Interface

Aug 17, 2011

I've tried to get my head around this but beeing used to Juniper and Watchguard devices I just can't get my home webserver published to the outside interface.I have a ASA5505 with ASA version 8.4 and ASDM version 6.4 and the basic license.

Outside interface is X.X.X.32/255.255.255.248 so I have 5 static IP:s on my external interface, .34 is in use for the outside interface.

Inside 10.10.10.0/25
DMZ 10.0.0.0/24

I have a webserver in DMZ located at 10.0.0.253 and would like to publish it to the external IP X.X.X.35.I've tried to make the static NAT but every time I do either nothing goes in or out of the DMZ zone or you can't access the webserver from the outside interface.Right now I deleted all trials since none of them work so only the basic config is applied. Everything get's NAT:ed to the external interface .34 IP.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 - Remote Device Or Resource Won't Accept Connection

Dec 21, 2012

I installed a CISCO ASA5505 with 50 user license  to my network as the gateway firewall. So ASA is acting as the gaeway router which is connected to a fibre circuit and also it gives DHCP to the network. The strange thing is that except for two computers rest does not have internet. I also have an asterisk phone system which works fine..

I tried everything.... static IP's DHCP, DNS nothing worked. But strange enough two computers works fine and have internet.. but are no special computers. One is Win XP and the other one is Win7. When I troubleshoot the problem in win 7 on one of the computers it says

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Cannot Access Inside Network From IPSec VPN

I'm trying to make a very plain and simple network with the ASA 5505, I've strated from scratch over a dozen times triyng to find where I'm going wrong.  My main goal is to simply create an IPSec VPN connection to my ASA 5505 and simply ping and connect to devices with the "inside network", so far I can easily create and establish a IPSec VPN Connection, but up to this point, I cannot successfully ping or access a single device on the ASA 5505 inside network.I've taken, create the IPSec profile with the ASDM wizard, add exemption for the VPN IP Pool, add access-list from this Cisco link, url...All this and I can't make a single connection to the inside network.  [code]

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Appears To Be Dropping Traffic For Internal Network?

Jan 10, 2013

we have a Cisco 2901 as a router on a stick for several vlans. Everything on the segment routes fine and accesses the internet just as they should. The 2901 connects to an ASA5505 on port 0/1. Any host connected to the ASA5505 can access the internet, but can not ping into any of the vlans off of the 2901. The strange thing is on either segement of the network I can ping all of the gateways. What is even more strange is when I run wireshark from behind the firewall going into the 2901 I can not see the packet on another wireshark instance behind the 2901. However if I start a ping for a host host behind the asa I can see the packet in wireshark on the host, which I am trying to ping, hit the gateway.

So whenever it tries to connect to the loopback 127... it automatically connects to the external device.

Is this possible? If so, what would I need?(Other than a crossover cable and router)Side note: I'll be sharing this connection to a wireless router - so I'm hoping to basically relay the connection that way.I know it is possible to buy extenders that extend the range of wireless connections, but this is where the restrictions come into play...-We are not able to network these computers on the wireless network, as we do not manage it and have some quite strict privileges.-The router will also be used to share a hard drive via USB.

Home Network :: How Best To Share A CAT5 Connection

Dec 30, 2011

I have a Linksys/Cisco wireless router. For the purposes of a high def throughput, I have a wired connection from the router to a Windows Media Center appliance in a separate room. However, now I have a second media appliance (Roku device) that I want to run in a wired fashion as well. Here is the thing, I don't want to run a second Ethernet line from the router to new roku device. Is there some way I can share the existing ethernet line between the roku device and the media center appliance? Ideally, since the two devices would never be used at the same time, I was hoping some other network device (another router?) could be hooked up to split the line between the devices. Worst case, is there some simple splitter I can use? Obviously I am trying to avoid the worst case scenario: switching the ethernet connection manually between the two devices every time I want to go from one to the other.

Cisco VPN :: Connecting To ASA5505 From Home To Head-office Using L2TP VPN

Jul 16, 2012

I am connecting to a ASA5505 at from home to the head-office using L2TP VPN.

Head-office then has a connection to other-office via a site-to-site IPSEC tunnel.

When in the head-office (192.168.100.0/24) I can ping/access remote-office (192.168.200.0/24) OK.

When connected remotely to head-office, I can ping/access head-office OK from the road-warrior laptop.

My problem is that when connected remotely from home to the head-office I cannot ping/access the other-office subnet.

On the home laptop the L2TP VPN connection is set to route all traffic to the VPN connection using the HQ as the internet gateway I can confirm this works.

I cant do traceroute (I get timeouts) as my policy doesnt allow and not sure how to enable this properly on the ASA.

Home Network :: Wireless Connection Sharing Over Ethernet?

Aug 11, 2012

I'm sure this may appear to have been asked before but I've scoured the Internet and can't find anything exactly applicable to the setup I'm trying to achieve. I had a sky ADSL connection in my living room that had my tv, ps3, NAS and netbook wired in. I've since changed to a sky fibre connection but this had to be installed in the master phone line which is upstairs. This obviously isn't a problem for all of the wireless devices around the house including the netbook and ps3 in the living room. The NAS and TV are still wired to the old router so can see each other with no problems. Any pc trying to connect to the NAS can just switch to the old router via wifi if desired. The only problem I have is that the TV can no longer access the Internet.

I initially tried to use ICS on the netbook (it's left on permanently) - it's wired to the old router and wirelessly connected to the new one. This appeared to be working for a while but is no longer playing ball. I've tried bridging the connections and the tv and NAS both had Internet access but it's very sporadic. Is this a reasonable setup or should I be looking for another solution? I can specify a manual ip, subnet and default gateway on the tv if necessary - I was going to point it towards the bridge's gateway but I don't know about IP?

So, I created the adhoc connection between 3 laptops. Now, I wanted to check the bandwidth between the different paths. The tool iperf was what I used for TCP bandwidth calculation. The bandwidth between A and B was around 4.5 Mbps , between A and C was around 4.0 Mbps but the bandwidth between B and C (B being server) was 677 kbps whereas C being server was 3.99. I don't understand how can the bandwidth drop so high when B was made the server. The system adapters are identical.
