i have triple storey house. in all three floors a broadband connection point (rj45 jack) is there. i have connected one wireless router in 3rd floor. but the signals are not coming on second floor. can i connect netgear wireless access point with one ethernet point in the 2nd floor broadband connection jack (Rj 45), to access wirelessly my internet?
View 1 RepliesI have 2 wireless routers. Belkin Wireless G plus mimo Model# F5D9230-4 Ver.3001 and a D-link Dir-615 ver.B2. I am using the Belkin router has my main router. The wife’s laptop and the Wii console connect to the router wirelessly. I also connect a few PC directly to the router via Cat5 cables which runs through most rooms in the house. Since the router is down in the basement in my control panel along side the cable modem and what not. This causes the wireless single to be pretty weak in certain parts of the house. What I was planning on doing is taking the D-link router connecting it to the wall jack upstairs to the internet port on the router. Then setting both routers to static and changing the Belkin router to DHCP?

I just plug it in and it'll connect automatically to the WiMAX signal. It has 2 LAN ports but no WAN port. From my understanding of networking, I have to turn off DHCP on my WiMAX modem, put it in the same IP range as my DIR-615 (192.168.0.100-199), and disable UPNP and NATPMP. After this I'm stuck.How do I tell my DIR-615 to use the WiMAX modem as it's WAN connection?Should I reserve an IP for the modem in my DIR-615?

View 3 Replies View Relatedour windows PC's will connect to the home (wireless) network briefly (~15 sec) and then lose the internet connection. The wireless connection seems to stay strong. During that period any browser activity will result in a DNS error message and the Win7 network signal shows strong but not connected to the internet. We tried setting static IP addresses on the PCs but no luck. A number of PC's all running Win7 exhibit this issue.After 5-10 min it reconnects and everything is normal.Network is a 20 mbs cable based system.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy use case is very simple I want to connect iPhone/iPad using pptp to my home network. I purchased the 180W and looks like I am not able to connect mobile devices to it. My Setup is simple I have ST536v6 (firmware 7.4.4) modem in bridge mode and Cisco RV 180W connect to my ISP using Ppoe. I followed the Admin guide and created the pptp user. If I connect from internal network it connects but when I try to connect the device from WAN it just does not work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a general networking question regarding VLANS, multiple broadband connections and accessing PC's on both setups from each other.What I would like to do is have 2 broadband connections, one a cable connection and one a DSL connection. I would like to run them both through a Netgear FS-726T switch. Since the cable connection will go through a Linksys router giving out I.P.s in the range of 192.168.1.x and the DSL will probably use the same range, I would like to keep specific PC's connecting through the DSL connection and some other PC's specifically through the cable connection. I THINK that this can be done via the use of VLAN's set up on the Netgear switch but I am unfamiliar with setting them up. I've read through the manual and researched it online but I must be missing something. Just can't seem to figure it out so it's time to ask the experts. Due to the bandwidth limitations on the Comcast connection, I would like to avoid any data coming from the PC's on the DSL connection from going out through the cable connection (I do customer support for my business and want customers to be able to access files on my file server and also be able to back up their PC's online to my backup server but on the DSL connection. I will eat up my cable bandwidth in a hurry just from the backups alone. I would like to set up all the PC's with static I.P. addresses if possible. Now, I also need to be able to remotely access any of the PC's from outside my network (which I can do now) but I need to be able to access the cable connected PC's from the DSL connected PC's and vice versa.

Clearly they are dependent on the internet teet as am I I am trying very hard to provide internet to our friends, but I just can't seem to figure it out I have a Mobile Broadband Router (MBBR) which limits connected devices to 6, so I figured that if connect a home router with wifi (WIFI) that allows 253 connections problem solved right? So I put a short LAN cable from the LAN port on the MBBR to the WAN port on the WIFI and presto! The WIFI gets a IP address, but does not allow other users of the WIFI to get internet. I've even killed all security on the WIFI and put the WIFIs IP in the DMZ on the MBBR. I noticed the DNS was the same as the gateway on the WIFI, so I changed that to the DNS on the MBBR still nothing.
PS Yes I have a connection on the MBBR I am on it now.Connecting the LAN cable from the MBBRs LAN to the WIFIs LAN extends the range, and grants internet to the WIFI users... but uses the MBBRs DHCP to give IP addresses, which limits to 6.I guess the goal here is bypass the limitation of the MBBR by using the WIFIs DHCP to issue IPs?

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy gateway laptop, running vista 64 home premium, cannot connect to the internet at home. connects straight to the modem via ethernet. displays as 'unidentified network'. according to the Atlantic BB tech(my ISP), my laptop is not obiaining an IP addy from the modem. The modem seems good, and the tech could see the modem from his end, but no IP addy from the laptop. ran ipconfig /all from home and the gateway was 207.255.36.1(preferred) instead of 192.168.x.x So i'm stumped with no net at home. the ipv4 properties do have the obtain automatically button checked, and dhcp is enabled. had the tech reset the provisioning on the modem & he said the mac addresses were cleared already. i reset the ipv4, ipv6, and winsock. haven't gotten anywhere. tech's last advice was to bring the modem back and swap it for another one.

It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great.There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again

We have the phone line connected to an extension at the other end (where the Church is) >80m away. Any way of running a second concurrent router on the extension so I can set up an office with a VOIP number, pC's printers etc there too? We use Devolo ethernet over mains and wireless for the main building, but the church itself is on a completely seperate mains power supply so I can't use that. I could run 100m Cat 5 and locate a switch on that, but any way of achieving something similar over the phone cable which is already in place.

I have a main router, named "Main" and another router named "dd-wrt". I have the dd-wrt firmware on that one. From the Main router, I have a 50 ft cord running through my house, to my room, which consists of a switch and a desktop. I read that you had to put the second router in client mode in order to do this. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8 recently at my new Dell PC.I have upgraded my PC Drivers and get the latest Win8 update on line.My ISP has came up with a latest version of 4GÂ Connection Manager (software) to allow me to login to the Wireless Network.I am using a small pen like modem called Dongle.
The performance of the new Connection Manager is uncertain, sometime I can logon to the network easily after starting, but sometime I don't.The searching for the network only last for 3 seconds and could not proceed further to detect and connect to the network.The present sucessful rate is about 50%.

I have replaced the Ethernet cable between the 2 so I don't think the problem's there. It will work for a week or so, then just lose the connection. However, the problem is, the exe file tries to connect to the local host ip address 127.0.0.1 and i cant change the ip since it's been coded.So, I'm wondering if i can use the device connection (which already has a different ip like 169....) as a local host connection. Type 1 - Connected directly to the internet (no router/firewall). Should have no issues.
Type 2 - Connected through a router properly. Should have no issues.
Type 3 - Connected through a router without open ports or DMZ setup for PS3. Everything should function properly, but you may have connection, voice chat or other issues
I tried forwarding my ports for the PS3 to no avail. I also read about DMZ/IP passthrough and that didn't work either. Thinking that it had something to do with my ISP again, I called them up only to speak to a complete asshole saying I was too stupid to understand anything I was trying to do. He said I should bridge my MOTOROLA modem, but with bridging I lose WiFi don't I? I haven't tried this method yet, but if it works then I would like to have my WiFi still available to me.The Linksys router, which I want to serve as a wireless point is this one. The Linksys router is not connected yet, but after I connect it I would like to use the MOTOROLA modem/router strictly as a modem with nothing else connected to it. Is that the best way to go? View 3 Replies View RelatedI have one lan with several PC's and static IPs 192.168.0.x 255.255.255.0 and 2 routers. One is 192.168.0.1 and the oter 192.168.0.11. I want every PC gets internet from gateway 192.168.0.11 and the other connection is set with static public IP for incoming Terminal Server Clients. The router for that connection, 192.168.0.1 has NAT setup for several ports which redirect traffic to 3 different computers. But the traffic is not redirected while those PC have the first gateway for internet (.11). To keep NAT working these 3 PC get internet from 192.168.0.1 but I don't want any computer to go out through that router.
What can I do to give internet through router .11 and send traffic to 3 of them from the other router .1 from internet to the lan?
