I have a ventilation controller that connects using a phone line. I have do not have a second phone line to dial out with my computer. is there a way i could set up dialing via broadband?

I can get onto the internet via a DSL connection, but it will not make a connection when I have a telehone line inserted in the phone line jack. The IPS service provider said to plug the computer directly into the phone jack without using the splitter which is a plug that has two openings(1 for phone and 1 for the computer in the event that the splitter is bad) I tried this and as soon as a connection is made about a minute later I'm disconnected again. The adapter is connected and has great signal strength. What can I do to make the wireless adapter work independently from AOL dialup?

I has been told in the past that all I had to do was buy a wireless router and plug it into the phone line. But today I called both Radio Shack and Office Max and asked if you could hook up a wireless router to dialup and both places told me absolutely not because dialup was too slow.
