Nobody else does around here so I get constant nagging from neighbours to give them the password. I can't say no however I'm afraid they may use up too much of my bandwith connection which could lead to alot of money being lost from my part. Constant and stable internet is a must for my work. how can I limit the bandwith I give to them? Can I create a second public network with limited bandwith or something like that?

I should set up a network for a little enterprise. The requirements can be summarized as follows:
- All the "business" softwares have to be stored in a single computer (let's call it "the server"). The other computers (in this case there should be at most 2 or 3 computers) can execute these softwares through the server. So there are no local copies of those softwares on clients, only on the server.
- The main computer (the server) shares also a printer.
- All the computers in the network, are interconnected through a single wi-fi modem/router. Some of them are connected through the wi-fi interface and others through an ethernet cable.
the server, in order to perform some special procedures, has to connect to a special modem which connects it to a remote private network. In order to do so, the server disconnects from the local enterprise network because Windows does not allow me to stay connected to more than one network at the same time. The remote private network does not require to disconnect from any other network, it's just a constraint imposed by Windows. In the meantime, clients are not able to execute softwares anymore and cannot print anything.when the server is connected to the private network, it still needs to execute the "business" softwares.
Is it possible to keep the server connected to both the networks without denying the access to softwares, data and printers to anyone? If yes, how?If not, how can I design the topology of the network in order to share softwares and other data among all the computers (server and clients)? It's important that when the server connects to the private network every computer (including the server itself) can still access softwares, data and printers.
we managed to integrate our newly setup ACS 5.2 to our regional domain. now im creating a Device Admin access Policy for Regional Network Admin group and Regional Network Operators group. each having full and read access respectively.
i already have the default identity policy and authorization policy with with command sets fullaccess and showonly for each group, now i dont know how can i match the AD group regionaladm and regionalops so that each user falls under one of these groups will have a correct read/write access.
I have three 4506 switches with vlan 4 set as the management vlan. Switch 1 is connected to switch 2 and switch 3.
I can access switch 1 and 2 using telnet from the management vlan and both switches reply to pings. But from switch 1 or 2 I cannot ping or telnet switch 3. If I plug into switch 3 and I can ping and telnet switch 3 but not switches 1 or 2.
It is as if the management vlan 4 is not being passed to/from switch 1 and 3. The configs for the uplinks from switch 1 to 2 and 3 are the same. And the configs for switches 2 and 3 look the same apart from the port settings.
I have over 40 vlans running all that work fine between all the switches.
we've configured an ACS 5.1 and integrated it with active directory Win2K3, we created two groups in the AD for managing network devices one for Administrators and the other for operators (read-only), so we configured a device admin policy and both groups work fine, but now we are facing a little problem any user who exists in the AD can login (user exec mode) in the network devices and we want to restric the login with the policy, but we just don't know how. Is there a way to get a user be authenticated against external group or internal acs but at user level, just like you can do it in the ACS 4.X?

But at least the speeds were constant and unchangingI have also tried Windows Easy Transfer. But that software makes it a bit harder to send back and for whenever i feel like it, and although sometime i would hit speeds 5 times faster than with the previously mentioned software (about 12MB/s) , those speeds were not constant. It would be slow (around 1MB/s) and then spike up, and then go back down, and repeat in that fashion

I have a network using windows home server 1, with 3 computers hooked up to it. Two of them work fine but the 3rd computer cannot successfully copy a file to the network. However, I can copy a file from the network to computer 3.This started suddenly about a week ago and there were no driver updates or anything changed that would cause this. When I copy a file from the network to computer 3 I get about 80mb/second. When I try the reverse, it pauses and after about 5 seconds I get a message saying:There is a problem accessing \serverserverfolder. Make sure you are connected to the network and try again. If I try to copy a small file of a few megabytes it will copy though.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a router-based home network in which the desktop running XP media center is connected by cable to the router. There are 2 wireless laptops, one running XP home and the other Windows 7.The laptops can talk to each other, and the desktop can talk to the laptops. But I cannot access the desktop from the laptops. I can see the (shared) folders, but when I click on one I get the message: "You might not have permission to use this network resource..Not enough server storage is available to process this command." One solution suggested in several places is to change the IRPStackSize to 15. However, if I start the desktop in safe mode with networking, I can access the files.I can also access the machine using remote desktop. One extra frustration is that this is a problem that has happened relatively recently. It used to work OK.

These users save the documents in their department folders, which are only acessible by their department and I.T. (me). Right now I have a .bat file that checks every half hour of the work day to see if it has been updated, if it has it will be moved to a location in the Intranet folder which will update the link on the Intranet. While users can view the Intranet, they do not have access to view the files or folders that house the Intranet html coding etc. This option works but our users are complaining that it isn't instantaneous. Any ideas how I can do this on a network while keeping everyone's security in place and not give them extra rights to the Intranet folders?

I love sharing on my home network to transfer files from one computer to the next. However, I will soon have tenants in my house sharing my network ...so they can use my Wi-Fi to get on the internet.I need a solution to give them access to the internet without losing my own network sharing ability.I do not want them accessing my files.I have Windows XP home and a Dlink WBR-2310 router. As I see it, I need to either upgrade to a router with a Guest Zone/Access feature ...OR..upgrade to Windows 7(?) to give myself more networking options (i.e. file sharing where I select the users or set a password). Currently the XP permissions are too general.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBasic info: SBS 2008 (64bit), XP-sp3 (32bit) workstations, gigabit switch, SEP. App is Sage Masterbuilder.Network config: Server is 1gb to switch over CAT6. All the workstations are 100mb over CAT5. SEP is set to exclude all pertinent files on both the server and workstations.Problem: The program is called MasterBuilder and does job costing and much more. In the job costing feature there is an option to "Compute" job costing. In version 16.x, when the "Compute" was performed the task was done very quickly. After an upgrade to version 17.x it is very SLOW. According to tech support, our network is at fault since it is a database function over the network.Troubleshooting done: Tech support blamed our network speed (100mb) and switch. We had a Netgear 100mb switch so we replaced it with a GB switch however the cabling will not support GB. Being a managed switch I set all the ports to 100mb except the server port. Even tried the server plugged into a 100mb port and no change. I am confident there are no speed issues on our network. All other programs perform flawlessly. ACAD, Exchange, data transfers and many other high data use programs work perfectly. I updated the network card drivers in the server as well. There are no performance or resource issues on the workstations. I monitored the network traffic at the workstations, server and switch with no issues and about 2.5% utilization during the slow "Compute" process. The switch shows no errors at all, no collisions, no dropped packets, nothing. I also disabled the SEP.
During testing and while the slow "Compute" was going on, I copied a large folder (400mb) from the server to the workstations see the impact on network utilization. As soon as I start the copy process the "Compute" process speeds up to normal and zips by as it should. As soon as I cancel the copy process the "Compute" drops right back to very slow.
I'm trying to transfer files from my wired desktop to my wireless laptop, and smaller files seem to transfer okay. Whenever I try to transfer a really large file, however, the internet and connectivity totally drops on my desktop (which is giving the file) and causes the laptop to lose the file. The desktop computer stays offline for about 1-2 minutes afterward before it either starts up again on its own or I reset the network adapter. I suppose it's important to note as well that the file transfer can fail at the very beginning, in the middle, or even at the very end, but my desktop computer always loses its connection whenever the interruption happens... but sometimes it can successfully get almost all the way through the file transferI tried following some of the steps in this case to confirm that I can ping and do all that jazz to my laptop and all of the services are running, since our problems seem similar. I've disabled all firewalls as well. However, since one computer is actually wired to the router, I don't think the solution will be quite the same
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am trying to transfer files from my laptop to my desktop, but when I open the 'network' folder from the start menu to access the desktop from the laptop, the desktop computer is not shown. I ensured that the workgroup names are the same, all sharing is turned on on both computers in Network and Sharing Center, since it is a private network, I checked the router settings and nothing seems to be wrong. The desktop is running Windows Vista Business x86 and the laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, so there is no way to make a Homegroup connection. However, I can see the laptop computer from the desktop's network folder. I click on it to gain access, but I get an error message: "Network Error, Windows cannot access \****-PC, check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found." have checked all wiring, router settings, and nic card settings, have done a successful ping, even Network and Sharing Center, I have also checked sharing permissions and permission levels, I see nothing that could possibly affect the access of the computers.
The only thing I can think of is that when I click on the 'Network ID' button under the Computer Name tab in System Properties on the desktop, it asks join a domain or workgroup, it will not let me save the selection "This is a home computer; it's not part of a business network," that may or may not be the issue, because it will only remain on "This computer is part of a business network" probably because I am running Windows Vista Business.
I have a small business network that connects 3 wired pc's and 2 wireless laptops. I am running a point of sale system on the network. I recently replaced the computer I use as a server. The work stations now run the point of sale system so slowly, they almost cannot be used. Both the wired and wireless systems are running slower. Both wired workstations are running Windows XP, both the old and new "server" are running Windows 7 64 bit. Both are Pentium dual core with 6gb of RAM. The old system has a Realtek RTL8168C network card, and the new system has an Intel 82579V network card. I replaced the computer due to other hardware issues. The cable used to connect it to the router is the same. The old machine ran the workstations MUCH faster. Does this have to do with the network card, or some other setting I am missing.I tried to make all the settings exactly the same so my point of sale system would still recognize the new computer.

Basically, what I did was turn off password required sharing or whatever, so all I had to do was click on networks in the left side panel when i was in My Computer and click on say, my wifes laptop and it'd open the public folder she had there, and I could drag and drop stuff into and out of it. And same for her and seeing mine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an issue that I'm not quite sure how to deal with. I had a media server die on me, so I built another one. It is built on Asrock A75 pro4 mobo. I am using the built in lan adapter from the mobo Realtek RTL8111E. At first I had a problem when no other PC could download anything from shares from the server. I could browse the files just fine, but when I tried download anything It would not start for a while and sometimes it would show speed of 16kb/s or something like that and would not budge after that. I re installed the driver did system restore and that partially solved the problem. Now all the pc's except one can download files fine. It is thru wireless network (server is connected with cable to router tho). The media server is running win7 ultimate the laptop that can't download the files is running vista. I tried using different wireless adapters with laptop and standing right by the router and it still wouldn't work. My old server ran also win7 and I had no problems transferring anything from it. I have another pc that runs vista and it doesn't have any issues. Internet works fine on that laptop and also it can download files from other pc's on network fine. The router I'm using is linksys e3000, though i don't think it has anything to do with the problem.
Actually the other pc's can't transfer anything either as of right now, so I would have assume the server is the issue
