Can Only Copy Files One Way On Network

Oct 12, 2011

I have a network using windows home server 1, with 3 computers hooked up to it. Two of them work fine but the 3rd computer cannot successfully copy a file to the network. However, I can copy a file from the network to computer 3.This started suddenly about a week ago and there were no driver updates or anything changed that would cause this. When I copy a file from the network to computer 3 I get about 80mb/second. When I try the reverse, it pauses and after about 5 seconds I get a message saying:There is a problem accessing \serverserverfolder. Make sure you are connected to the network and try again. If I try to copy a small file of a few megabytes it will copy though.

Network App Very Slow Unless Copy Files At The Same Time

Oct 5, 2011

Basic info: SBS 2008 (64bit), XP-sp3 (32bit) workstations, gigabit switch, SEP. App is Sage Masterbuilder.Network config: Server is 1gb to switch over CAT6. All the workstations are 100mb over CAT5. SEP is set to exclude all pertinent files on both the server and workstations.Problem: The program is called MasterBuilder and does job costing and much more. In the job costing feature there is an option to "Compute" job costing. In version 16.x, when the "Compute" was performed the task was done very quickly. After an upgrade to version 17.x it is very SLOW. According to tech support, our network is at fault since it is a database function over the network.Troubleshooting done: Tech support blamed our network speed (100mb) and switch. We had a Netgear 100mb switch so we replaced it with a GB switch however the cabling will not support GB. Being a managed switch I set all the ports to 100mb except the server port. Even tried the server plugged into a 100mb port and no change. I am confident there are no speed issues on our network. All other programs perform flawlessly. ACAD, Exchange, data transfers and many other high data use programs work perfectly. I updated the network card drivers in the server as well. There are no performance or resource issues on the workstations. I monitored the network traffic at the workstations, server and switch with no issues and about 2.5% utilization during the slow "Compute" process. The switch shows no errors at all, no collisions, no dropped packets, nothing. I also disabled the SEP.

During testing and while the slow "Compute" was going on, I copied a large folder (400mb) from the server to the workstations see the impact on network utilization. As soon as I start the copy process the "Compute" process speeds up to normal and zips by as it should. As soon as I cancel the copy process the "Compute" drops right back to very slow.

Sharing :: Copy Files Between PCs?

Jun 27, 2011

I need to do a backup on our laptop prior to beginning the malware removal process. I need to move 22GB+. There is plenty of room on our desktop to store the files.Would it be best to use file sharing between the 2 PCs? They are both USB connected to the same router. Or, is it possible to transfer the files by connecting them directly to each other via USB?

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG320N Cannot Copy From Any Of Computers To The Network Drive

Apr 18, 2011

I am having a problem with copying files onto my Storage device Connected to my WAG320N, the router is up to date with the latest updates and has been reset in an attempt to overcome this problem. I currently have attached a 2TB Seagate External Hard drive plugged directly into the router formatted in NTFS, and using Windows 7 Bit to access the Routers Webpage and the External Drive.

I am able to set up permissions and access control all okay, so some users can see some folders or have access in Read only or Read and Write Permissions, however I have been using the Admin account when accessing the drive which has Read and Write permissions to all Folders on the Drive. I can create a new document on the Drive (Right click > New > .Docx or .txt) and save file successfully and can view from other computers from the network, however I cannot Copy from any of the computers to the Network drive (e.g.. Copy .txt file from Computer to Network drive), I get the Windows Transfer Dialog and it Calculates Transfer Rate for a while before telling me it's unable to and that I can either select Try Again which comes up with the same error message, or Cancel the transfer. The reason why I want to be able to Copy files to the Network Drive is so I can centralise all the Photos, Videos and other files and documents to be shared to all computers on the network.

But at least the speeds were constant and unchangingI have also tried Windows Easy Transfer. But that software makes it a bit harder to send back and for whenever i feel like it, and although sometime i would hit speeds 5 times faster than with the previously mentioned software (about 12MB/s) , those speeds were not constant. It would be slow (around 1MB/s) and then spike up, and then go back down, and repeat in that fashion

Shared Files Not Accessible On Network

Jan 19, 2011

I have a router-based home network in which the desktop running XP media center is connected by cable to the router. There are 2 wireless laptops, one running XP home and the other Windows 7.The laptops can talk to each other, and the desktop can talk to the laptops. But I cannot access the desktop from the laptops. I can see the (shared) folders, but when I click on one I get the message: "You might not have permission to use this network resource..Not enough server storage is available to process this command." One solution suggested in several places is to change the IRPStackSize to 15. However, if I start the desktop in safe mode with networking, I can access the files.I can also access the machine using remote desktop. One extra frustration is that this is a problem that has happened relatively recently. It used to work OK.

Saving / Updating Network Files To Intranet?

Aug 23, 2011

I am trying to put a link on our Intranet page to several documents that are updated daily by specific users. These users save the documents in their department folders, which are only acessible by their department and I.T. (me). Right now I have a .bat file that checks every half hour of the work day to see if it has been updated, if it has it will be moved to a location in the Intranet folder which will update the link on the Intranet. While users can view the Intranet, they do not have access to view the files or folders that house the Intranet html coding etc. This option works but our users are complaining that it isn't instantaneous. Any ideas how I can do this on a network while keeping everyone's security in place and not give them extra rights to the Intranet folders?

Failing To Transfer Large Files Over Network?

Nov 24, 2011

I'm trying to transfer files from my wired desktop to my wireless laptop, and smaller files seem to transfer okay. Whenever I try to transfer a really large file, however, the internet and connectivity totally drops on my desktop (which is giving the file) and causes the laptop to lose the file. The desktop computer stays offline for about 1-2 minutes afterward before it either starts up again on its own or I reset the network adapter. I suppose it's important to note as well that the file transfer can fail at the very beginning, in the middle, or even at the very end, but my desktop computer always loses its connection whenever the interruption happens... but sometimes it can successfully get almost all the way through the file transferI tried following some of the steps in this case to confirm that I can ping and do all that jazz to my laptop and all of the services are running, since our problems seem similar. I've disabled all firewalls as well. However, since one computer is actually wired to the router, I don't think the solution will be quite the same

Cannot Connect Or Share Files With Other Computer On Same Network

Sep 28, 2012

I am trying to transfer files from my laptop to my desktop, but when I open the 'network' folder from the start menu to access the desktop from the laptop, the desktop computer is not shown. I ensured that the workgroup names are the same, all sharing is turned on on both computers in Network and Sharing Center, since it is a private network, I checked the router settings and nothing seems to be wrong. The desktop is running Windows Vista Business x86 and the laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, so there is no way to make a Homegroup connection. However, I can see the laptop computer from the desktop's network folder. I click on it to gain access, but I get an error message: "Network Error, Windows cannot access \****-PC, check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found." have checked all wiring, router settings, and nic card settings, have done a successful ping, even Network and Sharing Center, I have also checked sharing permissions and permission levels, I see nothing that could possibly affect the access of the computers.

The only thing I can think of is that when I click on the 'Network ID' button under the Computer Name tab in System Properties on the desktop, it asks join a domain or workgroup, it will not let me save the selection "This is a home computer; it's not part of a business network," that may or may not be the issue, because it will only remain on "This computer is part of a business network" probably because I am running Windows Vista Business.

Why Does Wired Network Transfer Files Slowly

Jan 2, 2012

I have a small business network that connects 3 wired pc's and 2 wireless laptops. I am running a point of sale system on the network. I recently replaced the computer I use as a server. The work stations now run the point of sale system so slowly, they almost cannot be used. Both the wired and wireless systems are running slower. Both wired workstations are running Windows XP, both the old and new "server" are running Windows 7 64 bit. Both are Pentium dual core with 6gb of RAM. The old system has a Realtek RTL8168C network card, and the new system has an Intel 82579V network card. I replaced the computer due to other hardware issues. The cable used to connect it to the router is the same. The old machine ran the workstations MUCH faster. Does this have to do with the network card, or some other setting I am missing.I tried to make all the settings exactly the same so my point of sale system would still recognize the new computer.

Sharing Files Over Home Network With Windows 8?

Basically, what I did was turn off password required sharing or whatever, so all I had to do was click on networks in the left side panel when i was in My Computer and click on say, my wifes laptop and it'd open the public folder she had there, and I could drag and drop stuff into and out of it. And same for her and seeing mine.

Now that I have windows 8 on my PC It's all buggered up.

I didn't change ANY settings on HER laptop, but when I try and access it (I used it to back up important files while fresh installing w8) it's asking me for a username and password
