I need to do a backup on our laptop prior to beginning the malware removal process. I need to move 22GB+. There is plenty of room on our desktop to store the files.Would it be best to use file sharing between the 2 PCs? They are both USB connected to the same router. Or, is it possible to transfer the files by connecting them directly to each other via USB?

I have a network using windows home server 1, with 3 computers hooked up to it. Two of them work fine but the 3rd computer cannot successfully copy a file to the network. However, I can copy a file from the network to computer 3.This started suddenly about a week ago and there were no driver updates or anything changed that would cause this. When I copy a file from the network to computer 3 I get about 80mb/second. When I try the reverse, it pauses and after about 5 seconds I get a message saying:There is a problem accessing \serverserverfolder. Make sure you are connected to the network and try again.If I try to copy a small file of a few megabytes it will copy though.

All the workstations are 100mb over CAT5. SEP is set to exclude all pertinent files on both the server and workstations.Problem: The program is called MasterBuilder and does job costing and much more. In the job costing feature there is an option to "Compute" job costing. In version 16.x, when the "Compute" was performed the task was done very quickly. After an upgrade to version 17.x it is very SLOW. According to tech support, our network is at fault since it is a database function over the network.Troubleshooting done: Tech support blamed our network speed (100mb) and switch. We had a Netgear 100mb switch so we replaced it with a GB switch however the cabling will not support GB. Being a managed switch I set all the ports to 100mb except the server port. Even tried the server plugged into a 100mb port and no change. I am confident there are no speed issues on our network. All other programs perform flawlessly. ACAD, Exchange, data transfers and many other high data use programs work perfectly. I updated the network card drivers in the server as well. There are no performance or resource issues on the workstations. I monitored the network traffic at the workstations, server and switch with no issues and about 2.5% utilization during the slow "Compute" process. The switch shows no errors at all, no collisions, no dropped packets, nothing. I also disabled the SEP.
During testing and while the slow "Compute" was going on, I copied a large folder (400mb) from the server to the workstations see the impact on network utilization. As soon as I start the copy process the "Compute" process speeds up to normal and zips by as it should. As soon as I cancel the copy process the "Compute" drops right back to very slow.
I record videos after motion detection on the cameras sd-card. Is there a way to copy all the files from sd-card to the pc? I wasn't able to copy them with the web-interface. I don't just want to delete the videos from time to time. I also want to archive them local.

I can copy to this external drive small (say, < 1 MB) files. The drive has enough free space. However, I cannot copy to this external drive large (e.g. 700 MB) files.

View 4 Replies View RelatedTwo computers (XP and Win7) connected on office LAN, cisco 2960, not same switches, but all in the same rack, and link togeter, same IP subnet, tried to copy some kind of 26G files from one to another, using Windows share folders, and it showed need 23 hours to finish the copying.It's not the first time, actually we always experienced very slow speed when copying files on Windows share folders. Did not see any particualler message on the switch. ports are all full/100m.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a small office network of 6 computers. I have just added the 6th computer running windows 7 home premium to the network and having a few problems. We are running sage accounts system and i cant connect to the main computer that is acting as the hub which runs of windows xp to acces the sage data.The main computer is visible on the network along with all other computers on the network but i cannot connect to it. when i click on it a box appears titles 'windows security' it asks me to 'enter network password' and says below 'enter your network password to connect to cornwall-31aae0' which is the name for the hub pc.
I type in the username and password for that computer and press ok and nothing happens the box flashes and remains the same as if stuck in a continual loop. i have tried various combinations of usernames and passwords including using the computer name as a username and none work.i have played around with the settings changing workgroups and network names etc to match the hub pc and none work either. i have disabled and enabled password protected sharing etc and none of this works either. i seem to have tried everything and also tried matching the settings so that it is the same to another pc on the network running windows 7 also but still makes no difference.
My new computer can't upload any of my files like in facebook and yahoo. I try some speed test, download is okay but upload is not. I turned off my firewall and nothing happens.

0ave a WRT110 that provides the hub between an xp, vista and a windows 7 machine but I can't seem to find a way to share files between them.Mapping a network drive, making sure all permissions are set on all machines Es there something like a service that isn't started that isn't started? and is it not started on all systems. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with my network, specifically printer and file sharing. I have 3 computers, (2 wired, 1 wireless) The network hasn't worked for quite a while. I just hooked up a new (wired) computer and it won't work on the network either. With the wireless computer, if I click on "view workgroup computers" I can see all the computers but cannot access them. With the 2 wired computers, I always get the message, "MSHOME is not accessible," etc. Funny thing is, the network used to work. I don't know what happened to it. I just formatted this new wired computer and loaded XP on it, used the network setup wizard, but keep getting the "not accessible" message. However, last month, I was working on my mom's computer and I put it on my network (hardwired). I had just formatted it and put XP on it and with that computer, I was able to access the laptop computer through the network.I have tried several times to create a new network by using the network setup wizard but it keeps saying that MSHOME is unavailable.I am using XP service pack 3 on all computers, Zone Alarm on 2 of the computers (the router and the new computer), and Windows Firewall on the other wired computer. I can access the Internet with all 3 computers.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have my Windows 7 computer and my daughters computer with Windows Vista networked over a wired home LAN. For the most part, everything seems to work fine. I can access files on her computer, and she can access files from mine (photos, music, video, etc.). I set up a shortcut icons on her desktop for easy access to specific folders I am sharing on my computer. Unfortunately, when I share a folder on my computer, she is unable to view any files added after I initially shared it. So I routinely have to go in and share the folder again. It's not a huge issue, but it is annoying. The limitation seems to be one way, as I can access newly added files on her computer, without resharing.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst off, for almost ever my two computers (Laptop/Desktop) linked on the same network/home group have been able to transfer files to each other over without any problem. I must have done something when Norton Expired on my Laptop which is causing the problem now. (Both running windows 7)Both computers show up in the network tabs, as normal. From my desktop I can access my laptop like I always could. I can play movies etc. but I can't make any changes or transfer files. As it says "You need permission to perfrom this action."Now from my Laptop, I can also see my Desktop in the network tabs. but I can not view anything on the computer. When I try to browse through the network tabs, I get [Windows cannot access \network error code 0x8007035].
1. I had it working before so I know they are properly connected.
2. Both computers can see eachother
3. My Desktop can browse my laptops files (but not change anything)
4. My Laptop can NOT browse my desktop as it says the network error code
5. Neither Computer has a firewall on
6. Neither Computer is running antivirus software
7. In the Homegroup sharing tabs, both computers are marked as "allowed" in the media streaming options.
Is it possible to share files and folder over wifi internet just as with wired internet ? I have 2 Laptops with built in wifi adapter. Can i make them share files and folders through wifi. (No Router or other hardware)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Buffalo LS-XLBB2 Linkstation NAS streaming wirelessly to a Sony SMP-N200 media player. For some reason, whenever I add or edit a file on the NAS via my PC the file list is not updating on the media player.I have the database set to refresh at 20 minute intervals, but some files and folders never show up and some do after a few days. There are no problems with file type as I can play them back fine when I connect a USB drive to the media player, it just seems like the media player isn't getting a copy of the new database. When I manually refresh the database, it makes matters worse. All of the files disappear on the media player list, except for one folder (the same folder every time). The original file list comes back again if I restart the NAS and media player, but the new files are still not listed. I can access the new files on the NAS fine with my PC or laptop, so the files are there, the media player just isn't updating the file list.
Things I've tried:
- Checking that both the NAS and media player firmware is up to date
- Retarting both units
- Resetting both units to default
- Trying different files types (the first file has never shown up, the second file showed up in the list 5 days later)
- Changing the database refresh intervals on the NAS
- Manually refreshing/initialising the NAS database
The main advice on other forums seems to be to set up a media server on the PC and stream though that, but the whole idea of getting the NAS was so that I could watch videos on my TV without having to have the PC on all the time.
I have been trying for the past 5 hours to set up a home network between my old HP Pavilion Windows XP PC, which doesn't have a wireless router, and another PC, running windows 7, on my wireless network. I want to remotely access the files on my old, slow, Big Bertha computer, which is soo terribly, horribly slow, using my new Win7 PC. But it won't let me! The XP PC is connected via ethernet cable to my Belkin Wireless-N router, and the new HP Win7 PC is connected to my wireless network via wireless signal. The computers cannot see each other or find each other on the network. I have tried- renaming the workgroup name on both PCs to be the same as the wireless network SSID, Installing some worthless "topology" update for the XP computer, which it refused to install, saying it didn't need it, Connecting the XP computer directly to the Win7 PC via ethernet cable and trying to bridge the LAN and Wireless connections on the Win7 PC and the LAN and Windows Network connections on the XP computer
