I want to sync some folders of my office computer with my computer at home.Which is the best method to do this? I know one solution is to save the files in the cloud, but I don't want to save my files on any other server.I think another method is to do this with a local ftp server, e.g. on my NAS but is this secure?Are there any other methods or rather is the ftp method a good idea?

Firstly, my setup. Wdtv live connected via USB3 to 1tb wd elements hdd. Also connected via rj45 to router. Laptop on same network, but wireless.
My first question concerns transfer rates. When sending any kind of media to the networked drive from my laptop, I'm only getting transfer speeds of about. 2 mb/s. I thought I would get much more than this as when the wdtv streams to my iPad, it will need faster speeds than this.
The second question is just to make my life easier. Is there any way I can set up folders on my laptop to automatically sync with a chosen folder on the networked hdd? Just to save any effort on my part really
What I want is if I import a cd using iTunes into my library, it will automatically see it and copy it across to the hdd so I can play it over the network.
As an aside, would it be easier to store my whole iTunes library just on the networked drive?
I want to share one folder in my network but it can be accessed by only specific computers in the workgroup, not all. How I can do that? I want to restrict other computers.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLet me start off by saying both computers are running Windows 7 Pro x64, both have file and printer sharing turned on, use 128-bit encryption, password protected sharing is off and Windows manages homegroup connections.
Computer A cannot access its own or others shared network folders through the network icon on the desktop, I get the message "Windows cannot access \Computer-AMy Documents" and if I try to access Computer B it gives me "Windows cannot access \Computer-B". Computer B can access Computer A through the network with no problems. The folders have had the permissions set to Everyone.
I have two work laptops connected wireless on my home network. I can see the computers and ping them but i can't see shared folders. These work fine at work. On wireless i am set for obtain address from router DHCP (linksys E3200). Both are on the same ip range. Both are on Win XP pro. I have Everyone in all share permissions and also in the security tab. Both machines when at work are on the same domain but one is a local user on the domain. Simple file share is not selected.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have 2 dell computers (and more but just worried about these two for now)... mainpc and sparepc, i had sparepc hooked to my tv and all pc's in the house, and a tv, networked to it... it all worked great, after a few minutes of setting it up... and then the hard drive crashed on spare pc and i got a new one, installed windows again both pc's use the same installation disk both pc's are hooked to a workswitch, which is hooked to a uverse gateway (router)... but it should be noted that hooking everything to wireless changes nothing... i get the same results can reach out to anything in the house and network great... but nothing can connect to sparepc... it keeps asking for username/password, even tho none is set I've gone through all the file sharing, homegroup, and folder options... ive reset ownership on folders and permissions... ive tried making/changing user profiles... but i cannot get from mainpc to sparepc home group does not work because the network does not work. as soon as the network works, homegroup will spring to life (at least, thats what happened the last time) if i right click on a folder, go to properties, share tab, and hit the share button... it asks for permissions for users... i set them, hit share, and it comes up and says, "you cant share this folder" ... with no explanation

Is it possible to sync the two? I'd like to be able to access both my pc (& my external hard drive connected to my pc) from my laptop. From what I've read, it's not possible unless both computers are on a wireless connection. I'm using Windows XP on my pc, and Windows 7 on my laptop.

Failed to fetch the configuration. Check the dcmaservice.log for details. TELNET: Failed to establish TELNET connection to x.x.x.x - Cause: connect timed out.
The issue is that i have configured all devices to be accessed through SSH first and then through telnet. I have tested SSH access from LMS with putty.
We have LMS 3.2 software. But the RME module can't running because notification error.

- failed on 2900series
- successful on 2800series
I have doing same config (credential, snmp, protocol for sync archive), for those device on ciscoworks but why I find the error??
I have a pair of ASA5520, each has a CSC-SSM module, all specs and licences match and the ASA failover between active and passive firewalls works as expected. However, I am unable to get the two content modules to sync. ASA are running 8.4... and attach diagram show cabling. Each CSC-SSM uses it's connected port as a gateway, although I've tried using both primary and standby IP.
When I try to sync the devices as per the Trend Micro instructions I get the error: "InterScan for CSC SSM could not establish a connection with the failover peer device. Please verify network connectivity with the peer and that the peer is functioning properly, then try again."
All interfaces are up/up. I cannot see the other CSC-SSM in either ASA's arp table. Neither CSC-SSM can ping the other, and none of the guides I've found so far details the pre sync config of the CSC-SSMs.
I've networked 2 PCs both on xp, one home one pro, through the router/modem. I get an error message saying contact your system admin when I try to read shared folders on the home from the pro version - I am the admin! The other way works fine.

He's created a homegroup and he's turned his file sharing on but he can't see my computer and I can't see his. He also can't share his public folder, it says "folder can not be shared." View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the past both of my Dell Laptops running Windows 7 via a router and belonging to HOMEGROUP, have been able to share files back and forth - with the ability to read/write. All of a sudden, one of the laptops (call it #1) was not able to find the shared files of the other laptop (call it #2.) However it worked the other way (#2 could find #1). I did all kinds of research, checked they both still belonged to the Homegroup, sharing was "on", discover network was "on", permissions were "full", etc.
I couldn't get anything to work - when I saw a suggestion that I sign off the Homegroup on both computers, set up a new Homegroup, and try again. I did this and still didn't have any luck - then decided to reboot both laptops.now I have sharing between both computers. BUT - on Computer #1 - the shared folders are like doubled. I have 4 libraries that are shared - Documents, Music, Video, Pictures, and the listed are all the 6 folders that I made sure were set to sharing - but Documents, Pictures, Music, are duplicates of the "library". I'm afraid to change any settings for fear that I'll lose what I finally gained. So my questions is - how can I clean this up so libraries and individual folders are not both shown?
