IP Camera And Powerline Network Don't Get Along?

Apr 29, 2012

Here is what a wired portion of my network looks like:

internet---dsl modem---airport extreme---powerline ethernet adapter****powerline ethernet adapter---5 port switch---(ip camera & ioBridge 204)

The airport extreme is also hardwired to a PC that I use to view the IP camera. The issue I'm having is with the connection to the IP Camera. The connection to the camera worked for a long time, then starting dropping periodically and now it doesn't work at all.The ioBridge connected to the same switch as the camera connects to my network and the internet just fine.

Here's what I've done to troubleshoot: I plugged the camera in to my airport extreme and it worked fine. When I plug my camera into the other end of the powerline ethernet adapters, though, it doesn't work (even though the ioBridge does). I replaced the powerline adapters today (because they had worked before, so I guessed something had fried in them) but the connection still doesn't work.

When I ping the camera (when it's on the other side of powerline adapters and "not working") the response time is around 3ms (good) but there is about a 33% loss rate (bad).I'm guessing it's the loss rate that is keeping it from displaying the video stream on the computer...but I can't think of what changed between when it was working and when it stopped working that would cause it lose packets like that.

D-Link DCS Network Camera :: 910 - Way To Access A Camera Without Using Dyndns?

May 11, 2012

I asked a question recently about accessing camera via a smartphone but I realize that's not really the correct question.  The smartphone works fine locally with wifi and has a browser available.

The real question I have is what is the easiest way to access any camera via a browser from a remote location.  Years ago tech friend assisted me access my DCS-910 using dyndns.org.  It was free and worked great.  I guess it went away when they started charging for a basic account.

Is there an easy way to access a camera without using dyndns even if it involves putting in an IP address instead of a convenient domain name?  I would just like to see at least one of my cameras in a browser off-site.  If I have to pay $20/year for dyndns I can but I would prefer not to if possible.

Add Powerline Adapter To Network?

I want to add a cisco or netgear powerline adapter to a building.I have read that for home it works really good, but i am going to add it to a building--A 5 floors building. So i would like to know if anyone has done this before and it works. This is a commercial building. And it is not easy to run cables, that would be the second option if the powerline do not work well.

Possible To Setup Powerline And Wifi Network?

Nov 29, 2011

I have a duplex home in an urban setting that seems too vast for a single wifi router. Additionally, it seems that there is significant speed degradation through wifi. According to my speed tests, I can lose up to 70% of my contracted internet speeds (of 15 mbps) via the router (which I am hoping that the Apple TC can fix although I'm sure that sometimes it's the cable co's fault!)I have read that if I can add a wifi router to the second floor that would work with the signal, however that speed would be the same degraded one.So, I have been doing lots of reading on the Powerline devices and I'd like to know if I can do the following and if so, how:

1. Connect the wifi router (soon to be an Apple TC) to the cable modem, as I do now, but then run the ethernet cable through the TC to the Powerline and Powerline network that way.

2. Connect my iMac to the internet via Powerline

2a. Can I then use Powerline fo Home Sharing, Air Play, and so on?

2b. Back up my iMac to TC?

3. Connect my internet ready TV via Powerline (currently conencted via wifi).

4. Connect a second wifi router on the second floor via Powerline and it be on the same wifi network as if I am using the second router as an extender.

5. There is a tenant on the 3rd floor who receives a separate electric bill. Can I assume that they would be shut out of my Powerlined network?

6. Lastly, connect my iOS devices to wifi?

Powerline Network - Computer Slowing Down Network

Apr 9, 2012

I'm currently on my home network, which used to consist of a router with wifi and all had a stable connection. However after leaving for university, i have come back to find that they are using these : (it now says i am connected via LAN) - i am running via a ''powerline network'' apparantly.

[url]...

However I believe my dad's internet is hardwired to the router, which is where the problem lies. When his pc is off, the internet is fine, however when he turns it on the internet becomes VERY intermittant for everyone except for him. When downloading a file it cuts down to 40-50kbps (not much slower than it usually is), but drops out every half a second... This makes web browsing impossible, let alone anything else.

Home Network :: Cable TV And Powerline Networking

Mar 11, 2011

I would like to set up a TV in my spare room which does not have a coax plug. Because of the set of my house running coax cable to this room, although possible, is something I am hoping to avoid. This is because if I was to run the cable on the outside of the wall it would get in my way and it will cost $300 to $400 for a tech to come out and run it through the wall.My first thought was to set up an old computer in my living room and have it connect to a cable box. Then I would send the video signal over the wireless network. The problem is that I cannot change channels on the other end. I have been reading up on power-line networking and it looks like a good option for my problem. I was hoping to find a device that will allow me to plug coax cable into it in the living room send the signal through the power-line to another device in my spare room where my TV receiver would be located. Is there anything like this out there on the market? If not are there any other options I can look at?

Does Mixed Powerline AV 500 And 200 Network Slow Down 500 Nodes

Aug 30, 2011

I have two netgear powerline AV 500 ethernet adapters that give me near ideal internet access on my media computer (FIOS 25/25mpbs tests out at 8ms 25.4/24.7) and perhaps 100-140mbps to my router, printer, drive, etc. I now want to add a few wifi points and instead of having the mess of a powerline adapter + a wifi router I think it will be neater to have an all in one solution. Most of the ones that I find are 200mbps, however. I know that 500 is backwards compatible, but will a mixed solution slow everything down like it can for a mixed wireless g/n network?

WRT54G - Connecting Two Wireless Routers Via Powerline Network

Feb 3, 2012

my goal is to share my cable modem signal over my two story house using two wireless routers. The delima is that the routers don't support wireless bridging and if they did, the signal is too weak to make it worth while.

The remedy I came up with... buy a pair of powerline network adapters and connect one router to the other so I could have a good signal upstairs and then a good signal downstairs.

Downstairs, I have the cable modem connected to the Linksys WRT54G router, which has a line out to my blu ray player, wirelessly feeds a PC downstairs and then has a cable run to the powerline adapter.

Upstairs, I have a cat5 connecting the powerline adapter (which was tested and works with laptop) to the data input port on my second wireless router, the netgear wndr3400.

I can't get the netgear upstairs to pull an IP address from the linksys router downstairs over the powerline network.

D-link Dcs Network Camera :: Netgear Cgd24n - 942l Just Won't Connect To Wifi Network

Sep 2, 2012

I seem to be struggling to connect more than 4 cameras to my (ISP-supplied) modem/router by Netgear CGD24N via WPS. I'm on my 5th camera now (already have 3x 930L and 1x 942L) but the newest 942L just won't connect to the network at the moment and there's definitely no faults here as I swapped cameras today at the local retailer (and got an A3 942L!).I've even tried connecting the camera to my wireless extender (Netgear WN3000RP) but no luck there.

So far it has only worked twice for short periods of time (enough for me to configure the cameras) but since then I can't actually get it working. I've got a couple of spare wireless routers lying around too and should be receiving a DIR-600 soon (from the Netgear promotion in Australia) which could be useful?

D-Link DCS Network Camera :: 2121 - When Plugged In Without Network Cable / Status Led Remains Red

Mar 26, 2011

I connected my camera to my router with a network cable. It is a DCS-2121, H/W Ver A2, with firmware 1.04_FR.It received an IP address and I could access it fine with a web browser. Then I configured it to work wireless.I disconnected the cable but the camera wasn't accessible.Since I couldn't find it I re-attached it with a network cable, but this didn't work.So I pressed the Reset button to start over again. However, now I cannot get it to work anymore. When I plug in the camera and have it connected with a network cable to the router the status light remains RED.When I plug it in without a network cable the status led remains RED.When I connect it with a network cable to a computer directly, the status led remains RED.I've tried changing the network settings of my router to use 192.168.0.x as range, but it makes no difference. In all cases the status indicator remains RED.

Integrating A Camera Network With An Existing Network?

Nov 1, 2011

Here is the scenario: A mid-sized IP based camera network (150 cameras, 1 management server, several client workstations, and several recording servers) has been implemented on a stand-alone LAN utilizing a class C configuration and is set up as a windows domain. The user now wants to add the ability for workstations on the existing class B network to connect (with client software) to the management server on camera network, network is controlled by enterprise sized domain (Think county). Access is controlled by camera system client software credentials. Here are my questions:

1) What is the best way to do this and what hardware is required? I thought about just adding a NIC to the management server but am concerned about the 2 different domains playing well together. Would a router be best? What do I need to consider as far as setting up firewall and/or gateway?

2) What considerations do I need to take into account regarding the camera network not taking bogging down existing user network?

3) The workstations on the camera network are not as “locked down” as they are on the user network (again, think county network security). Will I be creating a security hazard and if so, how can I prevent this?

Home Network :: Settings With Dual NIC Cards And Camera?

Aug 22, 2011

I have a computer in my garage that is connected to my Linksys router in the house via Cat 6 Cable. The computer in the garage has dual NIC cards installed and working fine. I am trying to get the Camera to feed back to the router from the second NIC card in the garage computer. The first NIC is communicating fine with the router.

Linksys Settings:
192.168.1.1
255.255.255.0

NIC 1:
192.168.1.145 (static)
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

[code]....

After messing around with many different thoughts and tries, I have successfully contacted 192.168.1.120 (the camera) from garage Computer While camera is connected to NIC 2.Camera wants a crossover cable to function properly and won't accept patch cable, I have tried with new cables...no change it needs crossover cable when connected straight to the NICs.

Camera:
192.168.1.120
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

Now the problem is I cannot view or access the Camera from my main Computer inside the house Like I need to....

D-Link DCS Network Camera :: 920 Unable To Stream Video

Jun 17, 2010

I recently bought 3 DCS-920 to monitor my home while at the office. However I can't seem to get the damned things to stream video using the dyndns service. I linked my router to the dyndns account and host service. I portforward the ports my cameras are assigned. Up to this point its all good, I can access the cameras and their settings pages while outside. However both the Java and ActiveX options for video streaming do not work. Even within the network, using their raw IPs to view the cameras the videos stream works. But putting in the hostname and port they are assigned brings up the camera page, but no video.I can only assume the ports the video and audio run on are seperate, as when I put one camera's IP in the DMZ host on my router, it works with the DNS. Unforunately I can only do that with 1, and I'd rather not do that at all.

D-Link DCS Network Camera :: Mobile URL Hack DCS-2121?

Jun 21, 2011

I just installed my new DCS-2121 and enabled upnp to be able to watch the feed from my mobile. While being on vacation I noticed that the feed redirected to some strange Russian site,[URL]Back home now, I noticed that the /m/m/index.html file contains an iframe at the bottom, that redirects there. So someone (not me) has been able to alter the index on the wap site and add that at the end some way or the other. While Googling I found only one reference on a French forum, and other than the lack of newer firmware for the camera no direct reactions to this.I tried with a simple PUT to put the original file back, without the iframe at the bottom, but there I get a 403.

- When can we expect new firmware to fix this HUGE security problem?

- How to restore the original (and yes, I tried a factory reset, but that doesn't restore the html files it seems)

- How did they manage?

It seems from the config db that it's an OEM'ed alphanetworks.com camera with a lot more options that d-link put in there. Any input from them maybe, it seems they are writing the firmware?

- Connected the DCS 2121 wireless to my Belkin Router with a fixed IP address. Firmware version 1.4 is installed on the camera.

- I have a Synology 209 NAS server with surveillance station that I have connected to the Camera.

I all works fine for 5 minutes to a couple of hours at which point the DCS 2121 loose connection to the Router and does not try to reconnect. If I turn the Cam on and off it will reconnect - and then loose connection again af a short time. This is totally frustrating since the purpose of the Cam is to work as a surveillance cam - it kinda loose its value by not being connected...
