Network Layout For IP Camera VoIP System?

Mar 31, 2011

Alright, first off a little background. Im recent IT graduate (last spring) but not yet working in the field in any official capacitance. Its been about a year and half since I had my last Cisco class. Right now Im in the beginning process to work with locally own retailer setup a network infrastructure for IP camera and in the future VoIP, about 45 50 total IP devices when the project is complete.Nothing has been purchased yet but I have some candidates and a network layout planned, thought this is the first time Ie setup network of this type in the real world.Right now I looking at Netgear and LG/Ericsson (previously SMC, Nortel) switchesHavent gotten to the router yet and VoIP will come later. For either brand there would be one 1000MB 24 port switch and three 100MB switches, all of them 24 port and all will have PoE on all ports.[CODE]

Cisco Switches :: Virtual NIC On VOIP System And SG500X?

Aug 27, 2012

We have a VOIP system with 1 physical NIC attached to our SG500X. It has a virtual MAC address along with the physical MAC address. It has 2 IP addresses tied to it.

I can ping the physical IP address, but can only ping the virtual address from the same vlan as the virtual nic. However, if I clear the arp table, a few pings will go through until they all time out again. This is causing problems on my phone system, and I need to establish this communication. I have tried putting in static MAC and ARP entries, but that does not work.

Security Camera System - Convert Cat5 Ethernet To Wireless?

Is there a device that I can use to get rid of the Cat5 cable in this scenario?

D-Link DCS Network Camera :: 910 - Way To Access A Camera Without Using Dyndns?

May 11, 2012

I asked a question recently about accessing camera via a smartphone but I realize that's not really the correct question.  The smartphone works fine locally with wifi and has a browser available.

The real question I have is what is the easiest way to access any camera via a browser from a remote location.  Years ago tech friend assisted me access my DCS-910 using dyndns.org.  It was free and worked great.  I guess it went away when they started charging for a basic account.

Is there an easy way to access a camera without using dyndns even if it involves putting in an IP address instead of a convenient domain name?  I would just like to see at least one of my cameras in a browser off-site.  If I have to pay $20/year for dyndns I can but I would prefer not to if possible.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Setup A DVR Camera System And Two Webpage Server Boxes Behind A WRT54GL?

Apr 6, 2010

I'm trying to setup a DVR camera system and two web page server boxes behind a Linksys WRT54GL.  The problem I have is that all of the devices want to use port 80 to generate the web page.  Individually, I can get the boxes to work, but when I try to put it all together everything seems to fall apart.  I've got to the DVR set to External port 80, Internal Port 80 IP address 192.168.1.254.  The web page server box I try to set to External port 8001, Internal port 80, IP address 192.168.1.200, when I try to save this setting I get the error message Internet IP address and LAN IP address are in the same subnet.  If I change the web page server settings to External port 8001, Internal port 8001, IP address 192.168.1.200, it will save the settings, but it won't work that way because it won't actually generate a web page when I try to access that port. The error message doesn't seem to make since as all I'm changing is the port number, not the IP address or subnet mask.

Small Business Physical Wiring Layout?

Sep 24, 2011

I am looking to start a proposal for the smallish business I work for. We have about 65 devices on the network with ~ 12 being VOIP phones. Currently our network consists of 2 cisco 2950's and a bunch of daisy chained consumer 5 port switches. I would like to get a couple of 48 port 2960S or 3XXX series catalysis' and run drops to all the devices. It's an older brick building with beamed 15 foot ceilings. It has a couple of semi-enclosed office spaces, with one large space for all the developers and designers. The plan I have involves running a cable tray down the length of the office and run drops off of the main run. I would like to be as cheap as possible with the cable tray, but it seems like all the trays I have seen are about ~50-100 dollars per 10' (not including mounting hardware). Seems extremely expensive for basically wire baskets.

I am planing to implement an ASA55100 in our network.I've never worked with an ASA5510 device, so i am not quiet sure how to place it correctly. The idea is the following:Current SituationNetwork with wireless access, everybody who's connected to the Wifi can access the resources.SSID = JUFCorp Desired Situation Network with only internet access, separate SSID -> JUFGuest Is this possible with this layout?PS: when i configure the ASA, i couldn't find an option where i can enter a default gateway. Is this supposed to be like this?So right now i can only access the management port when i'm in the same subnet.

HP Procurve 3500yl-48G / Redesigning Switch Layout For Redundancy?

Aug 13, 2012

My current switch layout at work is very basic and offers no redundancy. I'd like to at least setup redundant core switches, so that if any of my switches would to fail, it would result in a smaller number of systems affected.

Current Core Switch: HP Procurve 3500yl-48G (3500yl-24G as cold spare)
Internet Switch: 3com (forget model)
User distribution switches: 9 Planet 10/100 Layer 2 Managed switches, and 2 Dell Powerconnect 5448
Server switches: 5 Procurve 2810-24Gs (1 in each server rack)

In addition, we have 50+ site to site VPNs using different 192.168.x.x subnets across 2 different VPN concentrators, several routers, and a pair of MPLS's.My first step to improve speed and reliance was to reconnect the user switches. The old distribution switches were daisy chained, and all users 120 users were on a single 1GB port on the core switch, and if switch 2 of 11 failed, I'd have 10 switches knocked out of the network. I've since connected them directly to the core switch, and the users have noticed the improvement.

I'll try to get a diagram, but it's basically a large hub and spoke. Each and every switch is connected directly to the single core switch. All of the internet sources are connected directly to the 3com and are on separate VLANs which are then connected to the core via a trunk, which then handles the routing. Currently, I'm using less than half of the ports on the current core switch, so I should still have enough ports on the 24G to at least maintain the critical systems. Each server switch is trunked to the core, as is the internet switch, but the user network is not (but probably should be). Instead they are connected via simple untagged uplinks.

I absolutely cannot afford new equipment right now, so whatever I do will require reusing existing equipment. I'd very much like to increase the bandwidth from the server switches to the core if at all possible. Is there an easy way to configure and Active-Active setup that would improve bandwidth? Or would It be active-passive and require a 2 port LAG on the 48 port (for speed), and a 3rd port for the 24 port (for redundancy).

NOTE: With any luck, we'll be dropping our analog phone system and replacing it with VOIP sometime within the next year. So I should be getting some extra budget to replace the distribution switches with POE. Until then, I'll have to live with my crappy Planets.

D-link Dcs Network Camera :: Netgear Cgd24n - 942l Just Won't Connect To Wifi Network

Sep 2, 2012

I seem to be struggling to connect more than 4 cameras to my (ISP-supplied) modem/router by Netgear CGD24N via WPS. I'm on my 5th camera now (already have 3x 930L and 1x 942L) but the newest 942L just won't connect to the network at the moment and there's definitely no faults here as I swapped cameras today at the local retailer (and got an A3 942L!).I've even tried connecting the camera to my wireless extender (Netgear WN3000RP) but no luck there.

So far it has only worked twice for short periods of time (enough for me to configure the cameras) but since then I can't actually get it working. I've got a couple of spare wireless routers lying around too and should be receiving a DIR-600 soon (from the Netgear promotion in Australia) which could be useful?

D-Link DCS Network Camera :: 2121 - When Plugged In Without Network Cable / Status Led Remains Red

Mar 26, 2011

I connected my camera to my router with a network cable. It is a DCS-2121, H/W Ver A2, with firmware 1.04_FR.It received an IP address and I could access it fine with a web browser. Then I configured it to work wireless.I disconnected the cable but the camera wasn't accessible.Since I couldn't find it I re-attached it with a network cable, but this didn't work.So I pressed the Reset button to start over again. However, now I cannot get it to work anymore. When I plug in the camera and have it connected with a network cable to the router the status light remains RED.When I plug it in without a network cable the status led remains RED.When I connect it with a network cable to a computer directly, the status led remains RED.I've tried changing the network settings of my router to use 192.168.0.x as range, but it makes no difference. In all cases the status indicator remains RED.

Integrating A Camera Network With An Existing Network?

Nov 1, 2011

Here is the scenario: A mid-sized IP based camera network (150 cameras, 1 management server, several client workstations, and several recording servers) has been implemented on a stand-alone LAN utilizing a class C configuration and is set up as a windows domain. The user now wants to add the ability for workstations on the existing class B network to connect (with client software) to the management server on camera network, network is controlled by enterprise sized domain (Think county). Access is controlled by camera system client software credentials. Here are my questions:

1) What is the best way to do this and what hardware is required? I thought about just adding a NIC to the management server but am concerned about the 2 different domains playing well together. Would a router be best? What do I need to consider as far as setting up firewall and/or gateway?

2) What considerations do I need to take into account regarding the camera network not taking bogging down existing user network?

3) The workstations on the camera network are not as “locked down” as they are on the user network (again, think county network security). Will I be creating a security hazard and if so, how can I prevent this?

IP Camera And Powerline Network Don't Get Along?

Apr 29, 2012

Here is what a wired portion of my network looks like:

internet---dsl modem---airport extreme---powerline ethernet adapter****powerline ethernet adapter---5 port switch---(ip camera & ioBridge 204)

The airport extreme is also hardwired to a PC that I use to view the IP camera. The issue I'm having is with the connection to the IP Camera. The connection to the camera worked for a long time, then starting dropping periodically and now it doesn't work at all.The ioBridge connected to the same switch as the camera connects to my network and the internet just fine.

Here's what I've done to troubleshoot: I plugged the camera in to my airport extreme and it worked fine. When I plug my camera into the other end of the powerline ethernet adapters, though, it doesn't work (even though the ioBridge does). I replaced the powerline adapters today (because they had worked before, so I guessed something had fried in them) but the connection still doesn't work.

When I ping the camera (when it's on the other side of powerline adapters and "not working") the response time is around 3ms (good) but there is about a 33% loss rate (bad).I'm guessing it's the loss rate that is keeping it from displaying the video stream on the computer...but I can't think of what changed between when it was working and when it stopped working that would cause it lose packets like that.

Cisco :: Adding 2960S Switch To Network And Voip?

Apr 16, 2012

I have 6 cisco switches already on my network and I just got a 2960S PoE switch that I need to enable for VoIP. The voice vendor is coming in to setup our phone system for VoIP and I need to enable this new 2960S 48 port switch for the VoIP phones, I don't know how to do that, or other taskes needed for this project.

I was told that I need to uplink the new 2960S with the Catalysy 4507R using an ethernet cable and to "trunk the ports" and enable the 2960S as a VTP client - ok great - how?

I was told I also need to use the switch port voice VLAN command for the new VLAN - again, great - but how?

I actually was able to telnet into the switch and I gave it an IP and I created a new vlan but thats all. We are using non Cisco IP phones.

Home Network :: Settings With Dual NIC Cards And Camera?

Aug 22, 2011

I have a computer in my garage that is connected to my Linksys router in the house via Cat 6 Cable. The computer in the garage has dual NIC cards installed and working fine. I am trying to get the Camera to feed back to the router from the second NIC card in the garage computer. The first NIC is communicating fine with the router.

Linksys Settings:
192.168.1.1
255.255.255.0

NIC 1:
192.168.1.145 (static)
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

[code]....

After messing around with many different thoughts and tries, I have successfully contacted 192.168.1.120 (the camera) from garage Computer While camera is connected to NIC 2.Camera wants a crossover cable to function properly and won't accept patch cable, I have tried with new cables...no change it needs crossover cable when connected straight to the NICs.

Camera:
192.168.1.120
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

Now the problem is I cannot view or access the Camera from my main Computer inside the house Like I need to....

D-Link DCS Network Camera :: 920 Unable To Stream Video

Jun 17, 2010

I recently bought 3 DCS-920 to monitor my home while at the office. However I can't seem to get the damned things to stream video using the dyndns service. I linked my router to the dyndns account and host service. I portforward the ports my cameras are assigned. Up to this point its all good, I can access the cameras and their settings pages while outside. However both the Java and ActiveX options for video streaming do not work. Even within the network, using their raw IPs to view the cameras the videos stream works. But putting in the hostname and port they are assigned brings up the camera page, but no video.I can only assume the ports the video and audio run on are seperate, as when I put one camera's IP in the DMZ host on my router, it works with the DNS. Unforunately I can only do that with 1, and I'd rather not do that at all.

D-Link DCS Network Camera :: Mobile URL Hack DCS-2121?

Jun 21, 2011

I just installed my new DCS-2121 and enabled upnp to be able to watch the feed from my mobile. While being on vacation I noticed that the feed redirected to some strange Russian site,[URL]Back home now, I noticed that the /m/m/index.html file contains an iframe at the bottom, that redirects there. So someone (not me) has been able to alter the index on the wap site and add that at the end some way or the other. While Googling I found only one reference on a French forum, and other than the lack of newer firmware for the camera no direct reactions to this.I tried with a simple PUT to put the original file back, without the iframe at the bottom, but there I get a 403.

- When can we expect new firmware to fix this HUGE security problem?

- How to restore the original (and yes, I tried a factory reset, but that doesn't restore the html files it seems)

- How did they manage?

It seems from the config db that it's an OEM'ed alphanetworks.com camera with a lot more options that d-link put in there. Any input from them maybe, it seems they are writing the firmware?
