Internet Suddenly Slow On Main Desktop?
Jan 20, 2013
I just recently got back from a 2 day vacation to find that my internet on my desktop is almost unusable. I can get onto some websites and load videos, but it takes hours. I use Skype quite a bit, and I play online games. It is literally impossible to do either without my internet disconnecting.I use a 2wire Router i3812V with AT&T U-Verse. Here are my specs:[CODE]

My Main computer (which has a wired connection to router) internet is running so slow, i mean so slow that i cannot even do a speed test, it keeps failing, im continuously getting server timed out messages when browsing, and to watch a youtube video of 1 minute long it will take about 5 - 10 minutes to stream it before i can watch it. However despite the above the two laptops and ipad work great, i have a braodband speed of around 16megs. Now here is everything i have done so far. After calling my ISP to se if it was their fault, which it turned out not to be, they got me to change all the DNS and IP settings to manual, they gave me all the numbers to put in. Again that did not work so i used namebench to find the quickest DNS servers for me, that didnt work ethier so i just reverted all settings back to automatic as they were before.

I'm not the sole user of this computer, I woke up a few hours ago and my roommate tells me that the internet suddenly slowed down to a ridiculous speed, we haven't come close to exceeding the data usage from our provider. We use DSL broadband, not wireless. Some pages partially load, some pages do not load at all and some load completely but after a really long time. When I open a youtube vid a fraction of it loads before it stops, then when I click to skip a bit of the video the same problem happens (but sometimes the video completely loads...). I only use chrome but the speed is the same on IE and firefox as well.
Maybe a year or two ago, a computer guy installed all the antivirus things and programs necessary when we previously had problems. Not sure what it is....but an ESET Nod32 frame thing appears every time the computer starts for a few seconds so i assume (?) that this is our antivirus. Again, pretty much retarded computer-wise here haha. I find ESET nod32 in the start bar to see if maybe i can click it or run a scan or something but after I click it nothing happens at all....Not sure how relevant this is but this is the system info recommended by this website:

I normally have fairly speedy cable internet (12 MBPS) and it has never caused me any issues in the past. My ISP is a company called Ygnition (not the best). My problem is as follows: I was using my internet on Tuesday to play an online game (SW:TOR) and I walked away from my computer for about 30 minutes, and when I returned I had been disconnected from the game and the internet appeared to be non-functional. I've now discovered that the internet IS CONNECTED but it is INCREDIBLY slow. It takes at least ten minutes to load the google homepage and websites like speedtest.net are unusable. I obviously cannot use the internet with any efficiency, much less log into an online game.

my Internet has been acting up lately, generally I get download speeds of 1 mB/s but now I barely even get past 50 kB/s. Also whenever I attempt to download something I get large amounts of ping (500-900).

It was monday night when it started playing up. I literally have had it right now. To watch a simple 1 minute long video on youtube I will have to wait about 10 minutes before it is fully loaded. It takes about a minute to load an internet page and it is not just my computer, it is also happening on all other wireless devices and wired (3 laptops, 4 phones, ipad, ipos etc.)

So Today, a few hours ago i decided i was going to clean things up a bit on the computer, so i ran raxco perfectdisk defragger, disk cleanup, ccleaner/ccleaner registry fix a couple of times and windows defrag. So after that, the computer was running amazingly fast, but the internet was suddenly really slow, and youtube videos especially are taking a very long staggering time to load up, when usually my internet connection is average, i have unlimited downloads on my contract so it cant be that and its the temporary internet files and cache either, just cleared it all.

My internet speed is usually instant when browsing online or gaming. At the moment it takes me 2 minutes just to load Google. So far I have been able to rule out a few reasons for this slow speed. It's not my ISP (Which is Comcast). My brother and my dad have fast connection and they are hooked up to the same router. (It has always been like that). I think it's not the router or the modem because my family's other computers are doing fine. It's not my wireless link because I jacked my brother's link and installed the software on my computer for it and the slow internet still existed.
I have a Linksys Broadband Router.Linksys Broadband Router RT31P2 Router - 3-port switch (integrated) - EN, Fast EN.I have a D-Link Wireless Router hooked up the broadband for our wireless internet connection.D-Link Wireless 2.4GHz (802.11b) Router.I have a Netgear WNA1100 Adapter for the Internet Connection. WNA1100.The Dlink router is hooked up to Linksys as well as the Direct TV DVR and the Motorola Modem. It started when I was playing League of Legends Saturday Night when I started lagging because of my bro's download.

Running xp pro, IE 8,FF 18.1, Aol 9.6.All three browser are now running very slow.I have fios, had test done and is 18 or 19 meg down and about 4.5 meg up.I have run spywear (2 different one) nothing. Run N I Security.Problem started about 1-2 weeks ago with FF ,did not notice then if it started with others. I have two laptops (xp pro &MS 7) on network and they are OK.Just my desktop that is hard wired, is the only computer that goes very slow on the internet. It does not matter if the laptops are connected or not ,still a problem with the desktop.I have checked the router home page and only see my computers hooked up.What I mean by being slow ---web pages (tabs) take 2-5 minutes to load or longer.AOL has always been slow but FF was much better. now FF is really bad. IE is just a little better than aol. I did a total reset and then a uninstall and reinstall.Nothing, then noticed that the other browsers are slower to.

I've just had a custom computer built and I seem to have a problem with my wireless internet connection. I have a Realtek 8185 extensible 802.11b/g wireless adapter. My computer recognizes my house's network and is connected to the internet with a good connection, but when I open up my web browser it takes a very long time for the page to load and sometimes never does. The laptop I'm on right now is connected to the same internet and it is running just fine. I've uninstalled the device and rebooted to have the driver reinstalled but the problem still occurs.

A couple of days ago I bought a new desktop PC (Here is the link if anybody wants info on the PC [URL] but anyway, I'll get to my problem. My wireless router is downstairs in the living room and my desktop PC is upstairs in the bedroom. Theoretically, My PC's wireless card should be able to reach the router perfectly, being as I have several other PC's in the house that I use from my bedroom and the connection is 'Very Good' to 'Excellent'. Although with this new computer the connection's strength is very weak and it's so slow using the internet or trying to download things. It's internet is almost unusable. I've tried swapping the wireless card, but to avail. The connection is still awful.
Or of a way to boost the signal of my wireless card?

I'm stuck with their crappy wireless which has, up until now, worked perfectly. Yesterday in the middle of browsing however, I ceased to be able to connect to any websites. I'm still connected to their network, but I just don't have internet access. My laptop connects flawlessly and I've contacted the front desk and there's no issues on their end, so it must be something with my desktop specifically. I've gone through pretty much every solution I've come across. I've reset winsock, flushed DNS, released/renewed IP, uninstalled/ reinstalled my wireless adapter's drivers, system restored in case a Windows update burned something, tried manually setting IP/DNS settings..None of it has worked. I'm about to buy a new adapter just to rule that out as well. [code]

I have an HP Pavilion running Windows 7 that was working fine for about a year on a wireless router at home. I have 2 laptops and a Mac that are all running fine and can recognize the wireless signal but for some reason, the desktop PC suddenly won't recognize the wireless. I have tried a system restore, no good. I have tried to load a different Intel wireless network adapter and downloaded a driver from the laptop I have that is connected, but still no dice. I thought it was a radio hardware switch that accidently got turned off, but I can't find anything on the keyboard or tower that looks like it would turn it back on. Running out of leads.

So, first of all, I have two PCs in my home, one connected directly to the router, the other connected through the wireless network. I use the wireless connected PC. In the past I've had some issues of my connection cutting out on random occasions for about a minute then reconnecting back. This happened to every single user connected to the network, including the one connected directly to the router. It was just a minor nuisance so I just put up with it. However, one day my internet just slowed down to a crawl and I don't think any hardware/software changes were made to cause this, but I may be wrong. What confuses me is that, now the internet has slowed down, the disconnecting issue is a very rare occurrence. It happens probably once a day, where as before it was much more frequent. I assume it has something to do with my network not being so strained. The PC connected directly to the router does not seem to have this issue, in the speed test below, it has a higher download rate, around 6-7mbps I think (it's pretty bad in this area, but it's usable).I have done some research as to why this is happening, but there are so many different diagnoses for a slow internet that finding the one I'm having is really difficult. I thought it was just my ISP performing maintenance but it's lasted for about 4-5 days now.

TP-Link TL-WDN3200 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter
started functioning really slowly. I'm confused why one day it was fine, and the next the speeds went down dramatically. My wired internet connection is fine, any other device that uses the wireless behaves normally. I'm on channel 1 so I'm pretty sure there are no interrupting signals; maybe it's a fault with the USB?

For the last 4 years I’ve been using the Linksys Router, model WRT150N V. 1.1 and never had any problems—until now.Yesterday I noticed that my wireless devices (i.e., two computers, tablet and Internet radio) either don’t work at all (the Internet radio) or the pages load extremely slowly—for example, the tablet has become, for all intents and purposes, unusable. Since my ‘main’ computer is connected directly to my cable internet, I know that there is nothing wrong with the Internet connection itself, only with wireless connection.I disconnected the Linksys Router for 2 minutes and reconnected it, but to no avail. I know that I have not made any changes to any software/hardware that might affect the speed.Since I also happen to have access to another wireless Internet connection (a different provider), I connected to that network and all my wireless devices were working perfectly. Therefore, I think the problem must be with the router. I am using Windows XP (on the main computer, where the router and Internet cable are attached).

if I can enter their main page, I cannot enter individual sections. I will get this "This webpage is not available" error. The thing is that, both forums have been running smoothly for others but not me.Few days ago, the situation wasn't so bad. But when I using my ISP Proxy Address I can only access one of the 2 forums only. Hence, to access the other one, I would have to disable my ISP Proxy Address,Now, I can't. Even if I use Google DNS, I also cannot access the forums at all,Is my network screwed up ? But if it was screwed up, how come I can access to other forums but not these 2 ?

Currently, my work computer has (obviously) a local desktop. Also, we use a Remote Desktop for our shared network drive (our head office is on the other side of the country). The annoying thing is that if I am looking up a document on the share drive (Remote Desktop) and I want to work on it, the Remote Desktop applications are slow. So I'd rather work on it on my local desktop. However, I have to email it to myself, exit the Remote Desktop, retrieve it from my mail (in local desktop) and then save it

I have a question on a VPN connection. I have a remote access VPN setup on an ASA 5505 to be able to remote into a location and check the HVAC program running on a PC. The remote connection connects fine, but when I use remote desktop to connect to the PC, it connects quick, but the screen redraw and reaction time is extremely slow. EG: I click on the program and it takes about 20 seconds to draw the screen, or I click on a menu bar and get the same times for reactions. Could this be a ISP Up/Download issue or is there something that I need to look at on the ASA to change?
If I connect to the remote and do a PING from my desktop to the remote Desktop, these are the results that I get:

For whatever reason, as of Tuesday afternoon my laptop can no longer connect to wired internet. I am a college student (NYU), so I cannot access a modem or router myself. I have tried:
-Plugging my cord into another jack in my dorm room
-Using my roommate's ethernet cord
-Taking my cord and laptop to different areas on campus (library, other dorms, etc) that use different wired networks, and attempted connection there Worth noting is that I can still connect to wireless internet just fine (however, my dorm does not have wireless, making things very difficult for me).My ethernet adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. It was just updated today, in hopes that maybe it was a driver issue (Prior, it was a Realtek 8168C/8111C, whatever that means). All drivers have green checks next to them and appear to be working. Here is my IPConfig info:
Description : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Physical Address : 00-1E-EC-55-91-1F
DHCP Enabled : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled : Yes
Autoconfiguration IP Address : 169.254.26.193
Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway : (blank)
I am running Windows XP Service Pack 3. My laptop is a custom-built CyberPower PC. I have done a Malwarebytes Scan,SuperAntiSpyware Scan, and Avast Anti-Virus scan, and have turned up no malware or viruses.

2 days ago I turned on my pc, went off to the internet and boom. It's slow. I thought that maybe its about my provider. No it's still slow. Weirdest thing is that my torrent dl speed is still about 100kbps. But when i want to download something with my browser(s), speed is just about 20kbps. And surfing on the internet is slow too. I'm using windows 7 32-bit. And i use wired connection. And since I have XP installed aswell, I tried the internet there. I was having no problems with it there. But I use win 7 and I need this problem fixed. I have even scanned my pc for viruses. Nothing.

I'm currently in a University dorm room connected, via ethernet, to a splitter in our room. Starting just yesterday, my usually amazing internet speeds tanked to about 8 kb/s, and have stayed there since then. My roommate, also using ethernet, is having no problems. You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on this subject, I just hope I'm not completely clueless:
I first did the obvious checks, made sure cables were connected and secure, restarted our splitter as well as my desktop, disconnected and reconnected to the University Network, I even attempted to connect to wireless to make sure the problem still existed, and it did. ~8 KB/s download speed.I made sure I have, to the best of my knowledge, no background programs running that may be stealing bandwidth.I checked to make sure it wasn't only affecting my preferred internet browser, and programs like IE and Firefox showed similar, if not worse, results.I tried recovering to a few days ago when I believe the problem didn't exist, and the problem still existed.I ran through my programs list and made sure nothing was installed recently that could hinder performance.I ran a complete scan through McAfee, which produced no results. To double check, I downloaded (slowly) and ran SpyBot, which produced a few errors, but I quickly "fix"ed them and restarted my computer, ran another scan, and now nothing.
