Desktop PC Internet Is Really Slow But All Other Computers Work Fine

Oct 23, 2011

A couple of days ago I bought a new desktop PC (Here is the link if anybody wants info on the PC [URL] but anyway, I'll get to my problem. My wireless router is downstairs in the living room and my desktop PC is upstairs in the bedroom. Theoretically, My PC's wireless card should be able to reach the router perfectly, being as I have several other PC's in the house that I use from my bedroom and the connection is 'Very Good' to 'Excellent'. Although with this new computer the connection's strength is very weak and it's so slow using the internet or trying to download things. It's internet is almost unusable. I've tried swapping the wireless card, but to avail. The connection is still awful.

Or of a way to boost the signal of my wireless card?

Desktop Very Slow On Internet

Jan 23, 2013

Running xp pro, IE 8,FF 18.1, Aol 9.6.All three browser are now running very slow.I have fios, had test done and is 18 or 19 meg down and about 4.5 meg up.I have run spywear (2 different one) nothing. Run N I Security.Problem started about 1-2 weeks ago with FF ,did not notice then if it started with others. I have two laptops (xp pro &MS 7) on network and they are OK.Just my desktop that is hard wired, is the only computer that goes very slow on the internet. It does not matter if the laptops are connected or not ,still a problem with the desktop.I have checked the router home page and only see my computers hooked up.What I mean by being slow ---web pages (tabs) take 2-5 minutes to load or longer.AOL has always been slow but FF was much better. now FF is really bad. IE is just a little better than aol. I did a total reset and then a uninstall and reinstall.Nothing, then noticed that the other browsers are slower to.

Desktop Getting 169.254 Even Though Network Is Fine?

Apr 23, 2012

I lost my internet connection after I set my system up for an image backup, left the house and returned. Here’s how my home network is configured:

Cable internet -> Cisco modem/wireless router combo -> Dlink wireless router-turned-switch -> my computer

My computer, which is hardwired, was coming up with a 169.254. My phone, iPad and laptop were still able to connect to the Dlink signal and surf the net with no problems. I connected the laptop to the Dlink via Ethernet – OK. I connected the laptop the Ethernet cable leading to my desktop – OK. So now I isolated the problem to my desktop. I rebooted, released and renewed IP and still 169.254. I went ahead to force a manual IP address and it worked! Reverted TCPIP back to “obtain address automatically” and got a 169.254.

Internet Doesn't Work On Desktop?

Mar 11, 2011

So, my desktop, running windows 7, can no longer connect to the internet. It has no problem connecting to the router, but it will not receive packets. I double checked my connection using my laptop and it works with wireless and wired connections, so I know it's something with my desktop. I would really like to avoid doing a reinstall, I don't have anywhere to back my data up to.

Why Is Internet Slow On New Desktop Via Wireless Connection

Jun 6, 2012

I've just had a custom computer built and I seem to have a problem with my wireless internet connection. I have a Realtek 8185 extensible 802.11b/g wireless adapter. My computer recognizes my house's network and is connected to the internet with a good connection, but when I open up my web browser it takes a very long time for the page to load and sometimes never does. The laptop I'm on right now is connected to the same internet and it is running just fine. I've uninstalled the device and rebooted to have the driver reinstalled but the problem still occurs.

Download Speed Is Half Of What Paid For Wireless / All Other Computers Fine?

Oct 10, 2011

In the household we have 3 computers. 1 computer upstairs is the main computer with the router. My computer and the girlfriends is downstairs on wireless. We are currently paying for a 7.5 Mbps download speed. The computer upstairs and my girlfriends computer which is 10 feet away, get speeds between 7.5 Mbps and 10 during boost. My computer during a speed test will spike to 7.5 Mbps and remain anywhere from 2 Mbps to 3.5, roughly have of what they have. I have tested both wireless devices on my computer and my girlfriends, no improvement. She is running a device plugged via usb, I'm running a wireless card. Tried her usb, no success. Went into Task Manager and processes looking for other programs that would eat bandwidth, no success. And played around for a little bit with the channel settings on my card. It is Asus 802.11n WirelessLanCard.

Running Windows 7, Kaspersky, Shaw is my ISP.

Ethernet Works Fine On Laptop But Not On Desktop?

Dec 19, 2012

Earlier my desktop was to b in d same place where the router was der. Everything worked fine. Now I decided to shift my desktop to another room. I have kept the router at the earlier place only. I have brought a 25m long new cat 5 cable. When I connected it to my desktop, the orange led on ethernet port do not light up and the desktop is unable to detect the ethernet cable and hence the internet connection. On the router, a light of ethernet keeps on blinking every 1 second. I was worried whether my ethernet port got fried. So i inserted another ethernet cable, but then the ethernet orange light came and the pc detedted the connection. Therefore I thought the cable might be faulty. Therefore I connected my laptop with that 25m cable. But my laptop detected it and showed the internet connection. But now when i again connect the cable to my desktop, there's no light and the pc does not detect it. However, if i connect the 25m cable to my desktop then during boot the ethernet light on router is stable just as when it is normally connected to the internet. But when i go into windows it starts blinking every 1 second.

My router is MTNL Model No. UT-304R2
Desktop - Asus P7H55, core i5
Laptop- HP 2000
Windows 7 Ultimate on both desktop and laptop.

Download Speed Fine But Everything Else Doesn't Work?

don't know what to do. For a good while now, at my home, the internet has been awful.Web pages barely load if at all, I can't play any online games, but when I start a download, either by torrent or regular, the download speed is perfectly fine, reaching the normal 500 kb/s. My router is TP-Link W9801G. We get TV through the router as well, and there never was any problem with it. It works fine, just like the download speed. The DNS and IP settings are all set to automatic like they should, and of course I've tried unplugging and resetting everything.I know it's not the computer's network adapter, because it's the same thing at my laptop when I connect to it wirelessly. The signal strength is at all 5 bars too

Wireless Network Slow To Initialize In XP - Windows 7 Fine?

Mar 6, 2012

my machine is set up to dual boot Windows XP Professional Edition and Windows 7 Home edition. I had Windows XP installed on this machine first because it is 10 years old and I wasn't sure how well it would work with Windows 7. I decided to test out Windows 7 a few months after using Windows XP on here and noticed the wireless network was started right when Windows 7 loaded, where as in Windows XP it can take anywhere from 1-3 minutes for the wireless network to load. In this 1-3 minute time frame on Windows XP any browser or attempted connection to the internet 'hangs' and does not display a time out, it just continues to try and connect until the wireless icon finally shows in the taskbar

Slow Internet - Reset To Windows Default Settings Feature Which Does Not Work?

Jun 22, 2011

So just recently my Internet has been running a lot slower than normal at different times of the day (completely random, could be fine for hours then just turns slow). I know it's not the Internet itself, since it's only happening on my computer, and none others in the house - and I'm far from capped. I've run AVG, Spybot & Malwarebytes' scans and have found no infections of any kind. I've run TCP Optimizer and used the "reset to windows default settings" feature, which also hasn't worked one bit. I've tried different Ethernet cables and different plugs in the modem and no improvement.

Browser (ff / IE / Chrome) And MSN Not Working But BitTorrent And Gameranger Work Fine

Apr 19, 2011

i share internet with my neighbor (we split the bill) and every so often like in the last 2 days, and usually not again for another 3 weeks for 2-3 more more days each time, am not able to browse(ff, chrome, ie) or use windows live messenger, but yet if i turn on bittorrent, the downloads are fine, the trackers don't update, but DHT and peer exchange update fine. And also, i can get on Gameranger (which uses UDP port 16000) and play games, and this happens to all 5 computers on the network, (4 wireless at my house[3 XPs 1 Win7] and one wired at her house[Win 7]), so it's not something on the computer, also, usually when i check my router the subnet is usually 255.255.255.0 but this morning before i came to work i noticed it was 255.0.0.0 , not sure if that matters, this has been happening for months, usually between every 3-4 weeks, we have no browser and msn use for 2-3 days?

Wireless Slow On All Computers

Oct 18, 2012

There are several wireless devices connected to my home network, but for simplicity, let's keep it limited to 3, and call them A, B, and C. They are different manufacturers, but what I'm seeing isn't specific to a computer. When they are wired in, they all have expected levels of performance, but when then are wireless, there is a strange pattern.[code] Provider is Comcast on a Cisco wireless router. Looked at isolating devices, limiting traffic, changing locations, etc and nothing usage-wise has affected the at-home numbers. So I know I am most likely looking at a router setting, but I can't seem to narrow in on why only one device works as expected and everything else is painfully slow.
