LAN Connection Had Decent Speeds But Was Unreliable And At Times Very Slow (3000 Vent Ping)?
Apr 9, 2011I have a gaming machine i ran for some time on a wireless connection. This connection had decent speeds but was unreliable and at times very slow (3000 vent ping). So me and my father fished some cat5e cable through some wall from our router to my room. We used some old external jacks verizon gave us and some 6 foot patch cables to connect the computer and router to the jacks. My problem is that once it wall all connected the lan speed has been terribly slow (several times slower than the wireless). Previously I used an ASUS pce-n13 wireless adapter and now the lan is running of the nvidia nforce on my Asus P5n-d motherboard. I am clueless to the problem and I have called Verizon and gotten nowhere.

Jun 24, 2012When I install a micro-wifi-usb 802.11n with "Realtek RTL8188CU" on a old notebook with Windows XP I get maximum 1.5 to 2Mbits/s. Though installed on a newer notebook with Windows 7 I get 30Mbits/s.Other wifi-usb, Cisco Linksys WUSB100v2 does work on that Windows XP machine at 30Mbit/s, but the dongle is much larger The router Cisco WRT320N is just 5meters away and I always have excellent signal strength.I tried some other drivers without any luck. On the site of Realtek I don't find any driver except with some letter diverence at the end of RTL8188CU, which I also tried.

Nov 28, 2011If I ping a NAT'ed IP address configured on an ASA 5505, is it handled at the firewall (as far as priority) as if I were pinging the firewall interface itself, or the end device? The reason I ask is I am seeing waves of ping latency that I can relate to data transfers, but the nothing is even close to being maxed out as far as CPU, memory, or bandwidth. My guess is this is being handled by the ASA in software instead of in hardware.

Jun 20, 2012Since about 3 weeks ago my DSL has been getting totally random ping spikes, from under 40 to over 1500MS for minutes to hours on end. Nobody else is using my internet, I've verified this. There is nothing sucking up bandwidth on any connected device or computer, as far as I can tell through troubleshooting to the best of my ability. I tried switching to a Cisco X2000 modem/router combo and it did nothing, still totally random latency. Also, when I called AT&T about this, they didn't even know what ping was. They ran an upload/download speed test (which is still mostly consistent regardless of latency) and told me I was basically making the issue up.

Desktop PC Internet Is Really Slow But All Other Computers Work Fine
Oct 23, 2011A couple of days ago I bought a new desktop PC (Here is the link if anybody wants info on the PC [URL] but anyway, I'll get to my problem. My wireless router is downstairs in the living room and my desktop PC is upstairs in the bedroom. Theoretically, My PC's wireless card should be able to reach the router perfectly, being as I have several other PC's in the house that I use from my bedroom and the connection is 'Very Good' to 'Excellent'. Although with this new computer the connection's strength is very weak and it's so slow using the internet or trying to download things. It's internet is almost unusable. I've tried swapping the wireless card, but to avail. The connection is still awful.
Or of a way to boost the signal of my wireless card?

File transfer rates between the gigabit desktops is good (~50 megabytes/s, hdd bottleneck), transfers between the 100mbps desktop and one of the gigabit machines gives ~10 megabytes/s.Currently running on the 5Ghz band, connected with N at 300 megabits, good signal strength. Disabled mixed mode on this band, enabled N-only.Use a scanner tool, I can tell that there are no other networks on 5Ghz band.Also, tried 2.4 Ghz band and got similiar low speeds.These transfer rates are much below what other people report for real-world throughput. Any ideas? I know there is an Advanced Wireless config page, is there a setting there that might work if adjusted?

Sep 23, 2012I purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday. Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues. Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected. When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms. They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's. I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference. I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support. We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.
It was so slow on my work computer, a pint to yahoo timed out. The computers connecting to router are

Intel DZ77BH-55K - Install Network Driver For Intel For Windows Server 2003?
Sep 17, 2012I know now that this is a Desktop motherboard, officially not supported for Windows Server operating systems, but I would still like to get it to work. I've confirmed that the motherboard network works in WinXP (Intel 82579V Gigabit) and typically the 32-bit Windows XP drivers work on Server 2003 as well. Several of the other drivers have installed just fine, but the network driver install package fails with "No Intel Adapters are present."
I am trying to install Windows Home Server v1 (based on Windows Server 2003) on this box and just want to get a basic network driver up and running. I've checked the BIOS config, and Device Manager shows a yellow question mark by "Ethernet Controller". The ID is:

Jan 11, 2011Recently my desktop has experienced very slow download speeds (~0.11 Mbps), however the upload speed appears to be in line (~2.0Mbps). These numbers are taken from Comcast's speed test (my ISP). It is obviously a problem with my PC because everything else on the network (PS3, Laptop) have great signals with no problems. I just recently reverted the Desktop back to its factory state, and everything was working fine for a couple of months. The desktop in question uses Vista 32-bit and the Belkin Basic USB Wireless Adapter.

Mar 17, 2011I live in the tampa bay area, I have bright house (BHN) as my service provider, which provides a Road Runner Lightning (40/5) package. I previously used BHN's top tier (20/2) back in July (and prior) with no problems.
After converting to Lightning in August of this year (2010). Of course, BHN (and every other provider) wants to force a modem/router down your throat, so I had them bridge it (in short, turn it into a dummy modem with no routing). I had an SMC branded modem gateway at the time. I work from home 2 days a week (so I can spend more time with my kids during morning, lunch, right after work) and this requires me to use QoS to ensure my VOIP work calls don't get dropped, if the family is watching youtube videos or watching netflex.
My network was as follows SMC Modem >WAN IP>>WAN Port>>D-link DIR-655>>Switch Ports>PC1, PC2, PC3
Everything seemed fine (from a usability stand point) till about 2 weeks ago when my upload speed seemed to grind to halt. Normally I was able to upload about 200-300K per second, and I noticed this dropped to about 45K per second during a drop box upload. First thing I did was power cycle both my modem and router (in the proper/usual order). After they both come up, I start using speed test to find out what my upload speeds were. I was getting about 39Mbps down, but only .56Mbps up still. I factory reset my router.... test, similar speeds. Power cycle all computers (just in case), and then modem/router. Tested, similar speeds. Updated the firmware to the latest. Same issue
Called BHN customer service, they factor reset it, but it wasn't in bridge mode. If I by passed the 655, in factory mode (non bridge mode) upload speeds returned to better than expected states. If I bridged the cable modem, upload speeds seemed to crash.
Had BHN replace the modem, seemed fixed for a day, then issue came back. Had them come back out and replace it again, this time with a Motorolla Surfboard modem... same issue. Fine during factory reset, however after they bridge the modem, upload speeds were fine. Told BHN I would take it from there.. Connected up the DIR-655, and upload speeds crashed again. (.6Mbps). Called D-Link Support, and the Chinese English speaking rep seemed to not be listening to me and tried to have me adjust my MTU as well as Wireless settings. Long story short... the rep was a level 0 id10t and I hope D-link will consider hiring better employees/contractors. So I was all about to give up and replace it with a DD-WRT capable router (which it takes me a lot to want to swap hardware), when I discovered the wan shaping was on. Which I thought to myself... nah... QoS has never messed up before... why would it be the cause. Turned off wan shapping... and voila. Issue seemed to be insta-resolved.
Unsatisfied with that... I decided to dig a lil deeper. I turned on Wan shaping again, but decided to set the settings manually instead of auto detect.
Here are the settings I used... (Advanced Tab>QoS)
Enable Traffic Shaping - Checked
Automatic Uplink Speed - Unchecked
Manual Uplink Speed - 5000
Connection Type: Cable or Other Broadand Network
Enable QoS Engine - Checked Automatic Classification - unchecked (this checked seemed to affect my upload speed by about 5-10% during testing) Dynamic Fragmentation - unchecked (this checked seemed to be the worse enemy for upload speed)
While I know I'm not any network guru (still have to use a subnet calculator for subnetting), I think I did a pretty good job drilling down the issue (once I got passed my service provider replacing modems).
Anyways, I've had overall good luck with D-Link products, even have a 5 port 10/100 switch (all metal) from 1998 that works great. Hopefully, D-Link will just either put more documentation on the web, or hire better employees.

Pages would load slow, I could no longer play League of Legends properly because the ping is too high. Also, I used to have crossfire graphics cards running and the internet was fine, but after reinstallation, I thought I'd turn it off because that's how I fixed it before. Home Network :: Can Ping Gateway But Not Router And Slow Internet
Feb 21, 2011A while ago internet access was slowed right down for an hour or so. I have a phone line that comes into the house and then into gateway (10.0.0.2) then ethernet from that to linksys wifi router (192.168.1.1). So I did the following ping and repeated what you see below a few times to see that these results were broadly consistent, which was the case. One other person is connected to linksys via ethernet cord and they might have been on at the time. Questions are.... are these results consistent with contention caused by other user on the linksys? and why can I ping gateway but not the router? That makes no sense to me! I am not annoyed with the other person if he is hogging the network...I like him. I just wonder whats going on. When the internet works results from pinging are all as one would expect

Jan 10, 2013Just recently built a new system with this wifi card in it, and I am experiencing random lag spikes of up at 2000ms when pinging my E3000 router. I've tried the stock firmware on the router as well as the tomato variety I was using. I've tried both Windows 8 and Linuxmint 14 and the problem still exists. I did not have this issue on my laptop, nor do I have the problem with my wife's laptop. Is there any sort of setting in the bios that might affect this that I am overlooking?I'm about to just call timewarner and have them relocate the cable modem to this room so I do not have to deal with wireless.
