Slow Internet On Main Computer But Normal Speed On Laptops
Jun 13, 2012
My Main computer (which has a wired connection to router) internet is running so slow, i mean so slow that i cannot even do a speed test, it keeps failing, im continuously getting server timed out messages when browsing, and to watch a youtube video of 1 minute long it will take about 5 - 10 minutes to stream it before i can watch it. However despite the above the two laptops and ipad work great, i have a braodband speed of around 16megs. Now here is everything i have done so far. After calling my ISP to se if it was their fault, which it turned out not to be, they got me to change all the DNS and IP settings to manual, they gave me all the numbers to put in. Again that did not work so i used namebench to find the quickest DNS servers for me, that didnt work ethier so i just reverted all settings back to automatic as they were before.
I have a laptop (let me call it A) with Intel Centrino 1030-N wireless (iwlwifi module), running Arch Linux, and another laptop (I will call it B) with Atheros AR928X wireless (ath9k module), running Ubuntu 11.10. They connect to a wireless network provided by a D-Link DI-524 router (802.11g), which in turn connects to a DSL modem (10Mbps/1Mbps link)
Copying files between those machines, either through scp or mounting a share via NFS or Samba, is very slow (at most 200 KB/s) and sometimes fails (times out), even when both machines are inches away from the router. However, downloading files on either machine works correctly at the expected speeds (~1.2 MB/s).
I ran iperf, as recommended in a comment, and it gave me this: [code] The bandwidth is very low, as can be seen from those results.
I just recently got back from a 2 day vacation to find that my internet on my desktop is almost unusable. I can get onto some websites and load videos, but it takes hours. I use Skype quite a bit, and I play online games. It is literally impossible to do either without my internet disconnecting.I use a 2wire Router i3812V with AT&T U-Verse. Here are my specs:[CODE]
I have a router that needs to be reset to get the internet speed back to a usable speed. It is a fairly old router (D-LINK DSL 2730B) and it does get quite annoying. There is allot of devices connected, which may affect the speed, but I am sure it shouldn't change upon reboot. I literally reboot every hour or 2 during peek periods.
When connected to my router on my main desktop, I get download speeds of about .3-.85 mbps, I have comcast and a linksys N router, as well as a N wireless adapter in my desktop. If I use my laptop, I get around 10 mbps download speed, (Speeds are as of [URL]) but they still remain at .3 mbps on my desktop. I have tried two different wireless adapters in my computer. One is the Linksys AE2500 Dual Band N adapter, and the other is an ASUS N13 N Adapter. I have gotten the latest drivers of both adapters, but speeds stayed very low. When I connected the computer via ethernet cable, it ran at 16mbps. So I think that something must be wrong with some wireless settings, since I've tried 2 different adapters and was getting the same result, unless both were faulty I suppose. I also don't think it's my router's issue, because the wireless is working great on other wireless devices. I am using windows 7 on the desktop.
I just brought this belkin wireless usb adapter N150 and it is giving me slow download speed. I checked on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and it gives me 0.20 mbps it is not going to the max my max is 3.00 mbps it is not the wireless usb adapter because i checked on another computer and it went to the max 3.00 mbps and i putted it in the same location as my computer so than i realised that it was my computer that is giving slow download speed and it can't find much connections.
I have a problem with my download speed. I'm supposed to have a speed of 60 MBPS and when I collect my computer direct to the modem I received it but with my e2000 router, the 3 computer connected to it can't reach more than 30 MBPS. I just updated the firmware of the router to the newest version but nothing changed.
I have the E4200 with latest firmware . When I connect my computer to the E4200 and that to my modem im getting about 50mb speed. If I disconnect the E4200 and connect my computer straight to the modem I get about 95mb speed?I have the Virgin Broadband 100mb service and all is working fine at their end.
I am with Virgin media (UK) and have the 20mbps fiber optic connection. My area has recently been having problems with the broadband and Virgin has recently fixed these problems. However I used to get around 19mbps now that the problem is fixed my computer which is wired to the router gets about 0.4mbps downstream... However the 5 wireless computers all get 16mbps which is pretty good for them. Windows tells me that its a firewall issue and I currently can't use two programs, spotify and steam. They both have firewall issues, even if I turn off my firewall which is the windows one. I also have avast, and when I turn that off, still no good. I used OpenDNS, stopped using that flushed my DNS, that didnt work. I tried to optimize my computer settings, by changing various values in Regedit. All of this has done nothing. I should add that I have recently re-installed Windows 7 so on this fresh install it has never had decent internet speed. Which I thought was weird.. I have basically had these problems since the fresh install. All of my drivers are up to date.
I am having difficulty uploading files on the internet because the speeds are so slow. My download speed is 23.88 MBPS, bu upload is .3 mbps. This seems to be a recent problem. The other computers on the network get upload speeds of 5mbps and do not have any problem, so I think there is some problem unique to this computer, and not a network problem. I can't back up my files because the speed is too slow.
I wonder what will be a normal speed for the anyconnect client when connected over the internet to a ASA 5550 vpn edition? Is it normal to get max 2 Mbps or higher?
What is the ratio supposed to be between the download speed and the upload speed in a normal working configuation? My webpages are taking forever to load. I used this speedtest... url...
My provider is cable, Brighthouse, hooked up to their Scientific Atlanta modem and from there it is hooked up to a Belkin Connect N150 wireless router. I am not using the wireless on my laptop but am wired directly to the router. [code]
My computer at work crashed so I had to reinstall windows 7.When it was working properly I was able to connect to our main server computer. After the reinstall I am able to connect to the internet however I am unable to connect main server computer. Usually, before it crashed, the server would automatically show up in the networks folder. Now all I can see it my computer and not the server computer. If someone knows how I can get my computer connecting to the main server I have tried everything and nothing is working. The main server computer it Windows XP and my computer is Windows 7.
every devices on my network started having really slow speed. It takes long time for each to navigate thru sites. Normally every device gets around 20-25 MBPS in the network. And i have desktop, laptop, iphone, tablet on the network. I've been trying to fix this for whole day yesterday and today and no luck.how to fix this?.I ran some things from this site and the results are here.
I've been gaming all day and my ping has been extremely high. I figured it was someone in my house downloading something but now it's... 1 a.m. I checked my whole house and shut down everyone's computers so I'm positive no one is stealing my bandwidth.
It was monday night when it started playing up. I literally have had it right now. To watch a simple 1 minute long video on youtube I will have to wait about 10 minutes before it is fully loaded. It takes about a minute to load an internet page and it is not just my computer, it is also happening on all other wireless devices and wired (3 laptops, 4 phones, ipad, ipos etc.)
My brother is spending far too much time on a silly internet game on his laptop (Maple Story) and its effecting his school and social life. We're trying to find a way to slow down how fast his internet speed is so his game runs poorly, hopefully making him stop playing. I've looked into blocking programs over routers but it seems like a tough job.
I have a Linksys E1000 running on the latest firmware available from the Cisco website. When my main PC (Windows 7 64Bit SP1) which is connected with a ethernet cable is running the wireless speed is great for all my connected devices. (Android/Apple phones, tablets, family PC, etc). But when I shut down my main PC the wireless speed drops to the point where it can take 3-5 mins for google.com to load up. The wireless connection is still showing as strong, just the speed isn't there anymore. If I were to turn my PC back on, everything will load up almost instantly and be back to normal. I've tried reinstalling the router, resetting it all back to default settings and re configuring it but I've had no luck in solving this.
i replaced a lightning damaged Linksys router in my home network with the RT-N56U. My main computer is Win7 64, (Phenom II quad, asus M490GTD) , my wife's computer(wired connection, Dell P5Duo) and my work laptop (wireless connection HP core I5) are XP. I have a USB printer attached to the wife's computer and two wireless Squeezebox receivers. This network worked with the old router. With the new router i can access internet from all computers, and connect to the new network with the Squeezeboxes. I cannot print from the main computer, even though the printer shows up in the devices window and the test page spools.
I have at last got the wireless router today and set it up. A few teething problems but I have the internet and so does my wife now. And, I have my computer back! The new wireless router is a D-Link DSL-2740R. There are two things I can't get sorted out, I put admin into the user name and I can't seem to find a way to change the user name I managed to get the laptop (WinVista 32bit my comp is Win764bit) seeing the media from my computer but not other files and printer. I had previously set up a user under 'share' to enable the link between the computers and using the old Belkin it worked fine. Alas that is not the case and want it to get the sharing going. The 'Share' user is still setup and I could not see it, or I have forgotten how to access it?
I live in a house with 5 other students. To be fair, it is in the middle of nowhere so the internet is probably very slow anyway, but here is my problem: Skype is so slow I can only just make a voice call, webcam chat is off the cards. YouTube and other videos are so slow to load I cannot watch them. My Xbox 360 constantly disconnects from the wireless, so I cannot play online.
I just bought a used laptop and everything seems to work fine except the wireless. I sometimes can't find networks that I know are there but this can be fixed sometimes by restarting. The biggest problem I have is the internet speeds are really slow. I'm running on an N router and I am only getting about 100kb/s when my other laptop is getting about 600kb/s to 1mb/s. I have no clue what is wrong. I was thinking of trying to change the wireless card but I don't want to be hasty.
The last couple of weeks my internet download speed has become really slow.First of all, I cleaned out my cache and everything on Chrome (The browser I am using) so don't tell me to do such a basic thing. [code]
My laptops internet runs super slow, but only at our house. It runs at top speed on any other network. My wifes laptop has no issues at all. Have done multiple virus check with multiple different anti virisus programs. We use a Netgear modem I usually connect wireless, but have connected with an Ethernet cord with no change in speed.

my internet is being slow. It 'uplink' speed is 7mbps. when downloading or just surfing the internet 'task manager' says that the computer is using below 5% of the internet's speed capasity. it never gets higher than this, is there any way to change this so that i can us the full potential of the internets speed.

I'm new to the site and for the past couple of days I've been trying to figure out why my connection is so slow. I only get about 180kbps of download speeds so I originally thought it was my internet, but I went to test my connection speed on speedtest.net and I get around 1mbps. I also checked my network utilization through task manager and I'm not even using 1% Any Ideas as to why I can't make full use of my connection?
