View 6 RepliesI am having difficulty uploading files on the internet because the speeds are so slow. My download speed is 23.88 MBPS, bu upload is .3 mbps. This seems to be a recent problem. The other computers on the network get upload speeds of 5mbps and do not have any problem, so I think there is some problem unique to this computer, and not a network problem. I can't back up my files because the speed is too slow.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy Main computer (which has a wired connection to router) internet is running so slow, i mean so slow that i cannot even do a speed test, it keeps failing, im continuously getting server timed out messages when browsing, and to watch a youtube video of 1 minute long it will take about 5 - 10 minutes to stream it before i can watch it. However despite the above the two laptops and ipad work great, i have a braodband speed of around 16megs. Now here is everything i have done so far. After calling my ISP to se if it was their fault, which it turned out not to be, they got me to change all the DNS and IP settings to manual, they gave me all the numbers to put in. Again that did not work so i used namebench to find the quickest DNS servers for me, that didnt work ethier so i just reverted all settings back to automatic as they were before.

They connect to a wireless network provided by a D-Link DI-524 router (802.11g), which in turn connects to a DSL modem (10Mbps/1Mbps link)
Copying files between those machines, either through scp or mounting a share via NFS or Samba, is very slow (at most 200 KB/s) and sometimes fails (times out), even when both machines are inches away from the router. However, downloading files on either machine works correctly at the expected speeds (~1.2 MB/s).
I ran iperf, as recommended in a comment, and it gave me this: [code] The bandwidth is very low, as can be seen from those results.

The web browser to the switch says Full-duplex, 1000Mb/s, link type is auto, media type is 10/100/1000-TX on port 6i/18 The CNA says, so what would cause the difference?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am confused on how acl's respond on normal cisco switch (eg.6500) when applied on respective vlans. this is my scenario:on a 6506, i have 2 main vlans in question: Vlan 100 ( vendor1 - 172.16.100.0/24 ) & Vlan 200 ( vendor2 - 172.16.200.0/24 ). the requirement is,
- vendor1 should be able to access/ping vendor2 end points
- vendor2 should not be able to access/ping vendor1 end points
Now, if i ping from a host 172.16.100.11 in vlan 100 to another host 172.16.200.21 in vlan 200, will i be able to get a successful response ?
having problems with a slow network at work.. ive just become resonsible for the network and inherited a lot of ancient kit.upstairs we have a switch connected to our router.. downstairs we have 2 ancient hubs, daisychained and with 30 devices connected via cat5 and cat5e cable.the question is, if i get the cabling cut, recrimped and all of the cabling connected to the single switch instead of the 2 hubs is there any reason for it not to work, or for performance to be worse?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was having an issue with Comcast phone and internet services.Comcast had me disconnect and reconnect my modem and router. When service came back to normal one of my network connections was no longer available to me. I have two connections (one for use at my home which is a secured one) and one I use when I go to my sons home. My computer now only allows me to connect to a network called "Linksys" which may be available to the public. The connection I want to use shows up if I go to control Panel/View Network Status/Manage wireless network, and it is the first choice on the list, but the computer always uses the unsecured "Linksys". I'm afraid to do my banking over that network but I'm also afraid to start fooling with it and having no network. [code]
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently moved to a new apartment to be closer to work and this apartment complex is only covered by what I was told is a wireless hotspot.Basically, a wireless devices connects to the SSID, logs in, and then you're set with the most pitiful internet still available. Now I was told I could pay $70 bucks to have these people (Onlyinternet.net by the way) install a device that would allow me to connect my desktop to the internet service. Wasn't thrilled about that. Its $40 a month, for a 1Mb connection so that wasn't going to happen anyway.Looked up internet connection sharing and had setup my laptop to use it with my desktop. My connection on my laptop has always had a very low signal; between one and two bars no matter where I'm at in my apartment. If I go outside it'll get about 4 bars but that is about it. The actual speeds listed on the Wireless Network Connection Status go from 1Mbps, 2Mpbs, 5.5Mpbs and 11Mbps. Never higher.Today I went and picked up a NETGEAR N300 wireless router. My hope was that the router might be able to pick up the wireless connection and I could just connect through my router instead of having to use my laptop. Apparently, this is not the case.I have to use my laptop act as a modem and have it plugged into the Internet port of the router and then my desktop connected to one of the LAN ports on the router. Is this setup better then using the internet connection sharing deal? Is there any other way of increasing my signal strength and network speeds?
View 19 Replies View RelatedI recently built a new PC with an "ASUS PCE-N10" PCIE network adapter. I installed the drivers and everything was secure and nice and fast.
I moved the PC into another room this morning and everything was fine for most of the day. It's stopped working properly though now for some reason.
The connection is much slower and the speed keeps yo yoing and then cutting out. The signal is slightly lower due to positioning but it's still high enough. When it disconnects I use Windows troubleshooter to fix the problem and it says "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration". It usually reconnects me then, but is still slower than it should be and it doesn't last for long.
I've tried connecting to a chosen IP but it just doesn't work. Other computers on the network are fine. Why now? What's happened?

I think I might have a problem with how my network is set up.
Cable Modem --->ASA5505--->Cisco 3660--->Switch For some reason if I use the ASA as a DHCP server too, the internet is much faster. Could the 3660 be slowing down the netwok? The 3660 has 2 FE ports, so it should be running good at 10/100 correct? Is there another setup I should consider to speed up the network? [code]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am puzzled about some problems that occured at my work place. Unmanaged switch like D-link & Linksys was used and it worked pretty fine only for certain areas of the factory. Then office with more workers will be using managed switch to ensure the workers have decent connection to the local server.
Question is, why are some small offices' connection so ridiculously slow?
*Info*
The switches manage 4PCs
Tested - The main connection cable cannot go through the switch to distribute the connection. Even if there is only 1 PC linked to the switch, it will still be slow. It will be at it's max if it didnt go through the switch, but directly to the PC instead.
True enough that unmanaged switch aren't smart enough to allocate the speed, but why is it possible for some other part of the small office to have fast connection even by using the normal unmanaged switch?
I use to be able use the Internet when i am down stairs - i was able to stream videos without any lag, load any websites very fast and download files within minutes/ hours. The router is placed upstairs(i live in a flat) and when I am right next to the router the Internet is fine like before. Its only when i go downstairs that using the Internet is impossible.I have uninstalled the driver for the wireless adapter and installed/ searched for the latest driver without any luck. View 14 Replies View RelatedWe have been having a very abnormal speed issue. This one has me stumped. I am fed up and thinking maybe its an Att issue that will NEVER be resolved.Brother comes and bothers me Zach internet is slow thinking hes just being picky I tell him to reboot his computer. He says its still slow. I run a speed test from my desktop computer I get a 5.36Mbps download and .63 up. I go to his windows xp professional laptop and run a speed test he pulls .63mbps down and .32 up. This is a Dell Latitude D610 with built in wifi. My desktop just so happens to be a wired connectionI grab my laptop which happens to be the exact same model and experience the same result. So I power cycle to modem, then the Linksys ea2700 router. The speeds go back to 5.37m down and normal speed up. Then after 20 minutes its back to a CRAWL.
OK the router MUST be dead. I will kill two birds with one stone. I plug in my Modem/Router combo 2wire 2700. Speed does the same thing starts off fast then slow to a crawl. Figuring it's a laptop issue I use a Linksys wireless USB adapter AE-2500. I get the same result fast then slow. NOW the crazy thing is that its only on my wireless connections. The wireless computers use wireless G and say 54mbps so why would the internet be slow only on the wireless connection. So maybe it's an interference issue So I start up the generator and plug my modem router and laptop into it. I then shut off THE ENTIRE POWER service to my house! I get the same result fast then slow. My neighbors are far apart and I have switched wireless channels and even used the 5ghz frequency with the same results. An ATT Tech says the line is fine. They came to the house and tested everything. The only thing that has happened recently was a storm which left flooding in some parts of town. Only one time was I able to test my WIRED computer and get a download speed of .04Mbps down and .32 up
I installed the E4200. Internet works fine, and the internet connection is maximum performance. But if I copy a file between laptops, or to my mediaplayer (AC Ryan HD2), the connection is 3MB/s tops. I changed to the 5gHz and N settings, still no change.
View 6 Replies View RelatedA month after i had this laptop(bought new) its started have insanely slow connection times after booting up. The little blue circle starts to twirl meaning its searching for a wireless network. It then freezes and takes about 1 min- 5min to actually come back to normal and connect to a network. If i hibernate or standby there is no such problem, only after a fresh reboot. For this reason i usually never turn off my laptop, thus avoiding a lot network connection wait.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout 4 months ago or so I had what I though was a firewall problem, tuned out to be two bad switches or so I thought. I replaced the switches with 3 com switches and everything seemed fine. Until Monday, my network was down again I though because I had a patch cable plugged into the same switch because when I took that patch cable out of the picture and reboot the switches everything seemed good. Then Tuesday I installed a new Cisco 2960 to relieve some of the stress on a switch. Then I plugged in another 2960 and started checking out the network assistant and monitoring tools but every time I clicked refresh or just clicked on the newer of the two 2960s the network connection would bounce? Now today the switch that had been in production the 3com just started to bounce its connection on and off ? I had to plug everything into the new 2960 and unplug the 2nd 2960 to keep the network stable, well its only been about a half an hour.
Are the switch trying to sync speeds with each other?
my computer is a dell dimension 1100, with a Linksys WMP54G wifi card, running vista home basic. In the wifi thing in the notification area, it shows two wireless networks, One is my normal SSID (Lower Net), and one is "Unidentified network". They are both on one wireless connection (Wireless Network Connection 3). When i try to go on the internet, it says i'm not connected. i tried disconnecting from the unidentified network, but that disconnects me from lower net too.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have setup an Asus RT n16 with 3 computers that support gigabit ethernet and a media server on one floor. On the other floor I have set up a fast ethernet switch (connected to my asus router) which is connected to several fast ethernet enabled computers.
Would the fast ethernet devices slow down the entire gigabit networking to 100mbps connections on my floor - similar to how a wireless n network running at 300mpbs must slow down to 54mbps when a wireless g device is connected to it?
All of a sudden, the router's internal ethernet switch has started to get very slow at connecting to local machines. I can observe the connection fading in and out on each connected machine for up to half an hour until it gets stable. None of the settings have been changed lately. When I use WI-FI, the problem doesn't occur.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAt our office we have a weird performance problem with the following switches and connectivity:
Internet |
SG300-24 (L3) core switch (in our server room)
|SG300-10P (L2) access swtich (in our meeting room) |
SG500-28P (L3) switch (in our meeting room)
We are building a new computer infrastructure that is connected to the the SG500-28P. As you can see above the SG500-28P in our meeting room has an uplink to the SG300-10P in the same meeting room. And again the SG300-10P has and uplink to the SG300-24 in our server room. From the server room, there is connectivity to internet. The network uses a multiple VLAN's and routeing between them. Bootom line is, the internet VLAN ID 10 is tagged to trunk ports and available on the SG500-28P. So client get connected straight into the internet based VLAN.
The performance on the SG500-28P switch itself from VLAN to VLAN is very fast. But... the uplink connection tot the internet and other VLAN's on the core switch are very and very slow! At least 10 times slower than normal. So if I plug a laptop in the SG500-28P and go from uplink to uplink, it is slow! But... when I connect the same laptop to the SG300-10P the connection with only one uplink it is fast. As if three switches is to much. I can't figure out why.
I am getting very slow window file transfer speed (4 Mbps per second) between two connecting servers in Cisco 6509 switch. I have connect the two laptops in 6509 switch in same module using the same vlan and try to copy the files from one laptop to another and vice versa and got the same speed on 4 to 5 Mbps per second. Switch utilization is not more than 10% and both the laptops are connected in 1 Gbps full duplex.
I have checked by removing the gateway in both laptop but the output is same.
