So here's the deal, my friend has horrible down speed, usually less than 1MB/s according to Speedtest.net, sometimes it hits 2MB/s. However, his brother's in the house have at least 17MB/s, which I can assume is their actual speed that my friend should have... however, he specifically does not.He had a very old wireless card that was installed on his motherboard (desktop PC) that I assumed was the issue upon him first telling me, and from the issues I was personally able to see. For example, he'd constantly disconnect... his internet would just die for him specifically, and then come back. His brother's never lost internet when he did.
After that, I figured his very old wireless card that was installed was just kicking the bucket, so I instructed him to replace it. He went out and bought a new wireless USB adapter, and then uninstalled the network card.Even after all of this, his internet is still poor in terms of down speed. HOWEVER, rather than his internet dying for a few minutes at a time every so often, his internet "stays connected" if that makes sense? For example, we'll be on Skype in a conference call, and his internet will be loading pages very slowly, and Skype will constantly show that it's going from "green - online" to "gray circle - connecting". During this, he's still in Skype, but it's very poor quality from him speaking, and laggy as well.
Newbie network admin here and I'm having problem dealing with my LAN. I have two networks 192.x.x.x and 10.x.x.x, Configured at my Astaro 220 UTM, which obviously where the gateway is, from my UTM I have 3 isp connected which is the source for my internet. Now from astaro to my core there are two connection, 1 for the 192 network and the other is for the 10 network and from the core there goes my LAN where switches are cascaded. My problem is i'm having slow connection accessing from 10.x.x.x to 192.x.x.x network vice versa. what are the possible solutions is applicable, or the things I should check. plus I can't access(configure) my switches which is on the 192 network from 10.x.x.x. network through web.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I changed over 9 HP Procurve switches that were previously stacking in series (yeah, daisy-chain) to a Access-Distribution type scenario with 2 (or 4 on server switches) Gb ports on each switch Trunked together connecting to a central full 48x Gb switch.
During this I updated firmwares on all the switches (most still on their shipped 5-8 year old versions) to the latest stable release (and in the process found out that HP switch firmware is absolutely brutal and untested - See ProCurve 2510G FW 11.16 as an example) .
I saw vast improvements across the network immediately after the change (wow, really? 9 48-port switches effectively sharing a single 1Gb line to the servers and internet was a bit slow? Don't tell my co-workers, they don't think that's possible ) .
The only thing that I didn't see an improvement in was on some Linux and BSD servers, which would top out at 11MB/s doing a SMB (SAMBA) transfer. These are managed systems part of our business system, but we still need to be able to pull local backups for ourselves. So I contacted our vendor. The vendor confirmed that the line speed is showing as 1000T-FDx (same as the switch is showing).
Vendor is now claiming that after these changes were put in place, the speed on their servers (and their servers ONLY) was reduced to a maximum of 5MB/s (~60Mb/s?) doing rsync transfers between themselves. And they are all on the same 2510 (48 port all 10/100/1000), which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me. Furthermore this is on the ONLY switch on the entire network that had an updated firmware already installed - that's not even a possibility here.
I put some windows servers on that switch and can get 60MB/s+ all day (SMB transfers). I've also tried from their one server that I can access to doing an rsync or scp to another BSD box, and max out at 15MB/s (with 100% CPU usage on the test box - I'm assuming the decryption is pretty heavy?)There is absolutely no QoS, limiting, or any possibility of throttling the links the servers are on the switch. There are no excessive broadcasts saturating it, and the ports and cables test fine.
I recently moved to a new apartment to be closer to work and this apartment complex is only covered by what I was told is a wireless hotspot.Basically, a wireless devices connects to the SSID, logs in, and then you're set with the most pitiful internet still available. Now I was told I could pay $70 bucks to have these people (Onlyinternet.net by the way) install a device that would allow me to connect my desktop to the internet service. Wasn't thrilled about that. Its $40 a month, for a 1Mb connection so that wasn't going to happen anyway.Looked up internet connection sharing and had setup my laptop to use it with my desktop. My connection on my laptop has always had a very low signal; between one and two bars no matter where I'm at in my apartment. If I go outside it'll get about 4 bars but that is about it. The actual speeds listed on the Wireless Network Connection Status go from 1Mbps, 2Mpbs, 5.5Mpbs and 11Mbps. Never higher.Today I went and picked up a NETGEAR N300 wireless router. My hope was that the router might be able to pick up the wireless connection and I could just connect through my router instead of having to use my laptop. Apparently, this is not the case.I have to use my laptop act as a modem and have it plugged into the Internet port of the router and then my desktop connected to one of the LAN ports on the router. Is this setup better then using the internet connection sharing deal? Is there any other way of increasing my signal strength and network speeds?
View 19 Replies View RelatedI recently built a new PC with an "ASUS PCE-N10" PCIE network adapter. I installed the drivers and everything was secure and nice and fast.
I moved the PC into another room this morning and everything was fine for most of the day. It's stopped working properly though now for some reason.
The connection is much slower and the speed keeps yo yoing and then cutting out. The signal is slightly lower due to positioning but it's still high enough. When it disconnects I use Windows troubleshooter to fix the problem and it says "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration". It usually reconnects me then, but is still slower than it should be and it doesn't last for long.
I've tried connecting to a chosen IP but it just doesn't work. Other computers on the network are fine. Why now? What's happened?

I am puzzled about some problems that occured at my work place. Unmanaged switch like D-link & Linksys was used and it worked pretty fine only for certain areas of the factory. Then office with more workers will be using managed switch to ensure the workers have decent connection to the local server.
Question is, why are some small offices' connection so ridiculously slow?
*Info*
The switches manage 4PCs
Tested - The main connection cable cannot go through the switch to distribute the connection. Even if there is only 1 PC linked to the switch, it will still be slow. It will be at it's max if it didnt go through the switch, but directly to the PC instead.
True enough that unmanaged switch aren't smart enough to allocate the speed, but why is it possible for some other part of the small office to have fast connection even by using the normal unmanaged switch?
I use to be able use the Internet when i am down stairs - i was able to stream videos without any lag, load any websites very fast and download files within minutes/ hours. The router is placed upstairs(i live in a flat) and when I am right next to the router the Internet is fine like before. Its only when i go downstairs that using the Internet is impossible.I have uninstalled the driver for the wireless adapter and installed/ searched for the latest driver without any luck. View 14 Replies View RelatedWe have been having a very abnormal speed issue. This one has me stumped. I am fed up and thinking maybe its an Att issue that will NEVER be resolved.Brother comes and bothers me Zach internet is slow thinking hes just being picky I tell him to reboot his computer. He says its still slow. I run a speed test from my desktop computer I get a 5.36Mbps download and .63 up. I go to his windows xp professional laptop and run a speed test he pulls .63mbps down and .32 up. This is a Dell Latitude D610 with built in wifi. My desktop just so happens to be a wired connectionI grab my laptop which happens to be the exact same model and experience the same result. So I power cycle to modem, then the Linksys ea2700 router. The speeds go back to 5.37m down and normal speed up. Then after 20 minutes its back to a CRAWL.
OK the router MUST be dead. I will kill two birds with one stone. I plug in my Modem/Router combo 2wire 2700. Speed does the same thing starts off fast then slow to a crawl. Figuring it's a laptop issue I use a Linksys wireless USB adapter AE-2500. I get the same result fast then slow. NOW the crazy thing is that its only on my wireless connections. The wireless computers use wireless G and say 54mbps so why would the internet be slow only on the wireless connection. So maybe it's an interference issue So I start up the generator and plug my modem router and laptop into it. I then shut off THE ENTIRE POWER service to my house! I get the same result fast then slow. My neighbors are far apart and I have switched wireless channels and even used the 5ghz frequency with the same results. An ATT Tech says the line is fine. They came to the house and tested everything. The only thing that has happened recently was a storm which left flooding in some parts of town. Only one time was I able to test my WIRED computer and get a download speed of .04Mbps down and .32 up
I installed the E4200. Internet works fine, and the internet connection is maximum performance. But if I copy a file between laptops, or to my mediaplayer (AC Ryan HD2), the connection is 3MB/s tops. I changed to the 5gHz and N settings, still no change.
View 6 Replies View RelatedA month after i had this laptop(bought new) its started have insanely slow connection times after booting up. The little blue circle starts to twirl meaning its searching for a wireless network. It then freezes and takes about 1 min- 5min to actually come back to normal and connect to a network. If i hibernate or standby there is no such problem, only after a fresh reboot. For this reason i usually never turn off my laptop, thus avoiding a lot network connection wait.

I have two usb modem A and modem B. modem A could download at max of 300kbps while B could download at max of 700kbps. Since I am a frequent internet user, Im planning to use this two modem simultaneously so that I could have a max speed of 500+300=800+kbps. But I dont know if this would work. The problem with usb modem is that, when you connect the modem A in the internet while modem B is currently running, Modem B is being disregarded right? I was thinking of, say while im browsing and downloading, modem A would be use for browsing and modem B is for downloading. Or them may either share each connection for better performance.

I had the employee work from her laptop using the WI-FI connection while I attempted to troubleshoot the problem, and the laptop had the same thing happen. The strange thing is that she is the only one this is happening to. I originally thought it was a bad ethernet cable or bad port on the switch, but after the laptop had the same thing happen I decided the problem was else where. The contract company says that the problem has to be on my end, but thing that there could be something in her settings causing the problem. View 3 Replies View Related I have 2 internet services with separate ISPs. My local telephone exchange is somewhat dated so the maximum speed per ISP/connection is about 1 Gbps. I have streaming radio services, I do quite a bit of file downloading and there multiple devices currently trying to share a single connection. I haven't been able to utilise the second connection because my NAS and print serving is all configured on the first connection and therefore unavailable to users/services on the second connection. My goal is to utilise the available capacity of both connections but at the same time allowing all network resources (file and printer sharing, NAS drives, etc.) to be available jointly to all network clients.
My first router is a Netgear RangeMax ADSL modem/wireless router (DG834PN). This connects directly to one ISP and has the NAS and printers attached. The second router is a Netgear N600 wireless dual band router (WNDR3400) which attaches to a Linksys ADSL 2 Gateway with 4-port switch (AG241 v2) and then to the second ISP.As an aside, I also have a number of Devolo devices for utilising the electrical circuit for networking purposes. I have a dLAN 200 AVmini adapter connected to the RangeMax router with 2 further dLAN 200 AVmini adapters and a dLAN 200 AV wireless N adapter distributed through my house.
As the title states, I am want to set up a single ADSL connection, using 1 router across 6 apartments. The apartments are 2 floors and from the top they look like this The Router is on Apartment 1. Between apartment 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 5 and 6 is a normal cement wall. Between 3 and 4 is Cement and stone, so are the outside walls of each house. I was thinking of doing it simple and using 3-4 range extenders such as the Linksys RE1000. From what i searched on the internet, and what the documentation states, the signal will get bottle-necked for the last house due to the RE1000 giving half of the bandwidth. Quote from Linksys FAQ: Quote: 7. Can I add more than one RE1000 to my existing wireless network? Yes. But since the RE1000 only gets half of the wireless signal from your main router or access point, adding multiple range extenders can provide you with even lower signal, thus, giving lesser bandwidth to your wireless computers or devices that you are going to connect to these additional extenders. So, what would be an optimal solution to this? Should I go ahead and install the RE1000's? Is there something better that i can do?
