Laptop Wireless Connection Won't Connect To Router
Jul 22, 2012
I recently had Verizon high speed internet installed in my house. I connected a laptop to the router with an ethernet cable and everything works fine. I managed to connect with another laptop and another computer via wifi and they also work fine. I now want to disconnect the ethernet cable and allow the original laptop to be mobile around the house. When I first tried this everything worked fine. When I tried again (with the Ethernet cable still connected) the wireless internet connection was recognized but would not allow me to connect. The message was something to the effect of "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." The network is certainly there and the router is right next to the laptop - fully in range. The same thing happens when I disconnect he ethernet cable. A few times the router didn't even show up in the list of wireless interner connections. I might have changed some setting someplace but I don't know which one.

Our HPG62 notebook and a Dell laptop use wireless router in our home. This AM the Dell connects via wireless, the HP shows green on our wireless network but but the house symbol above the list of available wireless networks says "no internet access". I've tried looking for an external switch but don't see one. We are fairly basic users and don't know what to do.

I have a Dell E4300 with a 1510 wireless mini adapter running windows 7 pro with a netgear WNR3500 router running wireless N protocol. I have my laptop setup to sleep when lid is closed. When it awakens the wireless connection will not automatically reconnect and I have to manually select the SSID and connect. It will also reconnect if I use the network troubleshooter. The problem does not happen if I reboot the PC or start from a power off situation. I have the latest Dell driver and I am running the DWLAN utility.

The internet connection works perfectly, all other devices can connect properly to the internet. It simply says no internet access, in spite of being connected properly to the Wifi network. My hp laptop however drops the connection every 2 or 3 days and won't connect for hours, then will resume connection after a humptieth reboot. It's been going on since July. I have no idea why it drops the connection in the middle of activities or at boot, and no idea why it reconnects either.I tried a fixed IP, Winsock resets, programs that supposedly tweak the registry, renewing the ipconfig, something with ipv6, ipv4, and anything else I could find. I am having trouble with connecting my Xbox 360 to the internet through my laptop using a bridge connection. Everything works absolutely fine, after reading all of the posts in URL,I followed practically the same steps, using my network information instead. The xbox finds the network but the DNS servers cannot resolve the names of the Xbox live servers or Xbox.com.I was wondering if there was a step somewhere I had missed or needs to be changed. I've already gone through the motions of checking the router and everything.

After finally getting my wireless and wired routers to play nice together, I now find that my laptop won't connect. I know the wireless router is working fine, because my hp touchpad connects no problem.Lap is a dell inspiron m5030 with windows7 x64 on it.It's brand new, but I removed the dell stuff and installed win7 ultimate, as I already owned it. (and I have a thing about stuff that comes bundled...don't like...but it came that way.)I have all the drivers installed but I can't seem to even see my router.

My D-Link won't allow my laptop to connect to the Internet through an Ethernet connection. I set up the router using a standard Ethernet patch cable and cloned the laptop's MAC address to connect through the Mediacom modem. I then decided to test out the wireless and got that all set up, works perfect. Now I cannot connect to the Internet using the Ethernet cable.

I have a brand new E4200 with two desktop computers using it with no problems. I also have a work Thinkpad laptop that I use a couple of times a week from home. Since day one of installing the new router, I have experienced the blue screen of death numerous times during the day (the number of times varies from 1 to 6 on a really bad day). I believe this is happening when I lose my connection to the router. I can see it trying to reestablish itself but the VPN will drop the connrection before it has a chance. I never lost my VPN connection until the day I installed the new router. Yesterday, at least one time it was unable to reestablish connectivity with the router and I had to reboot the laptop to get it connected. Could this have something to do with the IP address? I do not have any issues with the laptop when I am at work using a docking station.
So, I am wondering why I am constantly losing connectivity on the laptop only. The laptop has Windows XP and I am using AT&T Global Network Client to access the work network. Is there a setting somewhere that will fix this? Our IT folks rebuilt my laptop and I am still experiencing the same problem. I checked and I have the current version of the firmware for the router.

Just replaced a WRT54GS with an E2500. It seems that anytime a connected device goes "idle" for a while, the connection breaks or severely reduces and it's nearly impossible to get the connection back without performing an action at the device in question. Let the wireless connection on my laptop go unused for some period and it reduces to 1Mbps and you can't get back on by just using the link more... you have to do a "repair".
Let more than a few minutes pass since you've printed something on the wireless printer and you MUST go to the printer to re-establish the connection by turning the antenna off and then on again.Basically the same problem with my blueray/DVD getting on the network. When I shut the screen off on my phone, the wifi dies and receives NOTHING over that link while the screen is off.
None of these behaviors existed with the WRT... just the 2500. Background/facts - current firmware, DHCP with reservations, WPA2/per, MAC filtering in use, UPnP disabled. MTU/Beacon/Frag threshold/RTS threshold set per recommendations on this site.

If I get a new wireless router that is N and attach it to my desktop computer, will my laptop which has a G wireless card in it be able to work without any modification? I thought I read that N is downward compatible with B and G cards, but then I saw some kind of network adapter that is put in the USB and wondered if I'd have to do that with the laptop. I'm leaning towards a E3200 right now.

Just bought a new laptop for my mother - a Packard Bell Easynote TS with Windows 7. Attempted to connect it to our home's existing router, but have run into problems. We have two other computers in the house, both linked via ethernet to the router (a Netgear DG834Gv5) although one sometimes goes wireless with no problem whatsoever. I have been on various forums to find ways of solving this issue; I have turned off the router and laptop and rebooted both; I have checked at the router IP address to see if the SSID name is broadcasting, it is; I have added the correct MAC address to the access list as we are on WPA2-PSK (wifi protected access 2 with pre-shared key); I have tried disabling this security option in the hope it allows a connection but no; I have even tried copying the existing network configuration from the laptop than can connect wirelessly and via USB stick pasted across to the new laptop, this also failed to work. I have also been into the Device Manager to check the network adapter (ATHEROS AR5B97) is working properly and it has the latest drivers installed - it has. There is no yellow warning symbol on it. When I run a diagnostic check it results in: "Investigate router or access point issues."
Booting up the laptop reveals that there are wireless network connections available - the home one. It has a good-to-excellent signal strength, radio type = 802.11g, the SSID is showing. But when I click on 'connect', it brings up: "WINDOWS WAS UNABLE TO CONNECT TO [our SSID]"When I connect this new laptop using the ethernet cable that I sometimes run my existing laptop with, it connects to the internet with no problem at all, so it is definitely just a wireless issue. The only thing that I am aware I haven't tried is to uninstall the pre-installed 60-day trial of Norton which some suggest may block the signal (is that right?) but I have temporarily disabled it and that did nothing.

I started off with my dl speed around 2 years ago at about 210kbs. Not the best but because i live in a rural area i was happy enough. But now my connection has dropped massivly to 40kbs being the peak. The internet was faster in the stone ages -_-. Anyway, i want to figure out if its the wires in the area being faulty or as someone told me it might be my wireless router (Netgear). I'm trying to plug my laptop directly into the internet without the use of wireless to find out if it is the router being the problem. The only cable i could find an ethernet to ethernet cable. I've tried plugging into router and a bit that said modem and tried to set up a connection. It didnt work so connect my laptop to the internet without the wireless router.

My laptop is reading a full WiFi signal from my router. I am currently connected to the router via Ethernet on the same laptop. I've been reading tons of old threads to troubleshoot this. I'm at a loss. I have used this current networking hardware for more than a year without any problems. I do have a pretty old router but my iPod connects to the WiFi no problem at the moment. - soft reset of router
- power cycle modem and router
- removed saved network information from the laptop

I have a WRT160 V2 router with firmware v2.0.02. I have had the router for years without any problems. A few months ago I have started to see an issue where I lose connection to my internet on my laptop, and wifi on my phone at the same time. I have wifi calling on my phone and it disconnects also at the same time. All of a sudden, everything will stop working, then about 40 seconds later, it all works again. I lost the connection maybe every 30 to 60 mins. I rely on wifi calling for my primary phone, and I end up getting cut off when talking to people. BTW wifi calling is for all tmobile phones, but also normal wifi to surf the web on my laptop and phone drops too at the same time.
