Linksys Wired Router :: Using RV042 As Layer 3 Clear Gateway For Comcast EDI?

Feb 7, 2013

Comcast installed a new fiber 10M EDI internet connection in our facility the other day and found out it is our responsibility to provide a layer 3 gateway to map the internet connection to the 14 public IP addresses they assigned to us.  We are using RV042 for our existing networks with a T1 we had.

Will the RV042 provide the gateway function to route the single IP address comcast provided to the 15 public IP addresses?  If so , can you provide the configuration example on this process?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 On Comcast Business Account That Uses Gateway

Jul 23, 2011

I am setting up a e4200 wireless router on a Comcast business account that uses a gateway (SMC8014).I have fixed public IP [x.x.x.x/30] and the gateway sets up a subnet 10.1.10.0 (255.255.255.0).  I have mail server and DNS server at 10.1.10.20 and I use port forwarding in the SMC gateway.

The setup of the e4200 using the software sets up a network (192.168.1.1).  I can connect devices to the router and browse the external Internet.  However, when my android phone connects to the e4200 it gets an IP such as 192.168.1.101.  However, I cannot download my mail which is at 10.1.10.20.  When I try to browse that IP from the android phone I get the SMC gateway at 10.1.10.1 and not the computer at 10.1.10.20.  If was coming in from the external Internet port forwarding would take over but it does not work for the android phone connected to the e4200.

Also, i noticed that when I set up the default setup for the e4200 the "Cisco Connect" says the WAN address is 10.1.10.155 and the LAN address is 192.168.1.1.  However, when I go to the SMC Gateway and list the connected computers it doesn't see the e4200 at 10.1.10.155.  If I set up the e4200 within 10.1.10.0 then the SMC sees it (but the computer name always says "unknown").  It I set the DHCP in either the SMC or the e4200 within the 10.1.10.0 subnet I can see the phone connection in the SMC when I list the connections but any requests to 10,1,10.0 computers goes to the SMC gateway.

Linksys Wired Router :: RV082 Gateway 2 Gateway VPN Can't Ping

Jul 26, 2012

We have a VPN setup between two Cisco RV082 routers, the VPN status shows as connected however I can't ping the other network.  I am unable to ping between routers, let alone ping computers behind those routers.

We have 2 branches, branch 1 is on a static IP and branch 2 is Dynamic.  I am able to connect via QuickVPN from Branch 2 to Branch 1 and remote desktop to computers, however have yet to VPN/remote desktop in the opposite direction.

To me it seems like a firewall issue at branch 2, but what's causing this.  Also they are currently running 2 differnet firmware version not sure if this would cause a problem.

Linksys Wired Router :: OWA Through RV042 With VPN Running

Mar 24, 2012

We have 3 Cisco RV042. These were purchased to permit VPN from two branch offices to our head office. VPN is required to permit the two branch offices to use Avaya IP phones to connect to our main head office switchboard. We also have users on Blackberry and Apple iPhones to collect their mail through OWA from our Exchange 2010 server.

I've noticed in one of your threads that the RV042 routers configured for VPN do not permit the use of HTTPS to connect to OWA and that seems to be the problem for us. Since installing the VPN our OWA access is not possible.

What can I do to resolve this problem and what router would you suggest that I could use at the head office to enable the two branches to connect VPN to head office? And if there is a suitable router, would I need to replace all three?

Linksys Wired Router :: DHCP Setup On RV042?

Mar 16, 2011

We have a Network set up with a RV042 router. Router is hooked up to Cox Cable and ATT DSL. Currently have 20 computers hooked up to the router all using Static IP addresses. Setup has been in place for over 7 years. I want to set up a Wireless Access point on this network. The problem is, I can't seem to get DHCP to work right even WITHOUT the Wireless Access Point. I have taken one of the computers that works great with a static IP and changed it to be DHCP, I have enabled DHCP on the router and set the from and thru parameters for the IP assignment. The computer will connect and get an IP address and it allows me to see all the INTERNAL servers on the network but going to the Internet is REAL FLAKY. I usually have to refresh 5 or 6 times to get a web page and sometimes even that don't work. If I do get a page to come up there is about a 10% chance that it will bring up a subpage of that page without doing a refresh 5 or 6 times. Its like it won't hold the connection to the Internet. I did notice one thing different in the User Manual of the RV042 that is different than all the other Linksys routers I have worked with. It says that when you enable the DHCP on the router, you then make sure ALL computers hooked to it are set for DHCP. All other routers I have worked with do NOT use that word ALL. Am I missing some setting or is this a binding thing where you are either ALL static or ALL DHCP?

Right now they come in on VPN but its not as fast.Is this doable without adding additional hardware? Both networks need DHCP enable as well.

Here is how it is setup: my email and web come in thru one outside address..call it 166.5.5.5 I have a 1 to 1 nat for 166.5.5.5 to 10.0.0.2 (email/web/ftp server) ports 25 and 53 are forwarded to the 10.0.0.4 (barracuda) then out on 25 to my 10.0.0.2 no emails go thru as long as it is set this way I can nat the 166.5.5.5 to the barracuda first and emails go thru, but I lose my web and ftp will this router work for me? I was told that i needed to change mx records for email to 166.5.5.6 and then forward nat on that address to the barracuda. I dont really want to change mx records for 10-12 email domains.

Linksys Wired Router :: Getting RV042 And RV082 Throughput?

Feb 17, 2008

I am currently using Netgear FVS338 Routers / VPN Devices in 3 different locations and honestly I am not happy / impressed with them whatsoever.I have been doing some research and came across the Linksys RV042 and RV082 devices that caught my eye. The question is what is the VPN throughput of these devices?I have gone over the website, spec sheets and they only really say the throughput of the LAN Links and not the WAN Links. I currently have very reliable 20Mb+ Synchronous connections between all 3 sites and have not been able to get any good performance out of the Netgear devices and contacting their support is a joke. They can't tell you anything other than it should work or we will swap out the unit. Well if I have 3 of them that have been purchased at all different times I don't believe that they are all having the same issues. What these units 3DES VPN Throughput and will more than likely be purchasing 3 of which ever once suits our needs immediately.
