View 1 RepliesI've just purchased a new router (WRT160N) and wireless adapter (WMP600N). The problem is that I cannot connect to the router when I have it set to WPA or WPA2. At the same time my laptop with Atheros 9285n connects to router and works perfectly. When the wireless security disabled the wmp600n connects to the router without a problem and shows 300mbps connection speed and laptop 150mbps. When the router is set to WEP both laptop and pc with wmp600n connect but work very slow - 54mbps only.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was any way with a typical home router (for instance I have a Linksys WRT160N) to create a wireless network which is essentially sandboxed from the rest of my network. Basically I want devices on this network to be able to access the Internet only, but not any of the other computers on the network.

I read many many post on how to optimize the speed of the router but none worked so far.I got a great wired Internet connexion hitting between 45 to 60 Mbps[URL] the wifi is crazy slow on Iphone, Macbook pro and iPad staying between 3 to 8 Mbps....
I tried to change all of the specs, did the firmware update. is there a perfect configuration with the new firmware ?
My WRT160N V3 halves my connection speed (5mbps to 2.7)with both wired and wireless. I have tried changing a lot of settings.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two computers on hard line and two laptops. All computers on the line work fine and flawlessly. But when I try to connect the laptops to the computer, they say there's a problem with the certificate. Both detect the connection, and with strong enough signal strength. I've tried WPA and WEP encryption methods, and disabling encryption methods. All had no change. I believe the problem lies with this Wi-Fi Protected Setup stuff, which I have no clue as to what the hell it's supposed to do. I've tried disabling it by turning it to manual, which all computers then lose internet connection entirely. Browsing the FAQ's, I havn't found a solution. I've been working on this thing for a solid 7 and a half hours straight, and phone support is trying to make me configure static IPs, which proved extremely inconvenient in the past.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using a WRT160N for a couple of years now with no problems with any of my devices. I have a couple of certain devices (a DS and a PSP mainly) that utilize 802.11b and have been working perfectly up until now.
All of a sudden it seems like the router has decided all by itself to no longer allow 802.11b devices to connect to it, despite it being configured in mixed mode. (b/g/N) I've tried tinkering around with it, switching between Mixed and BG-Mixed, changing the channel to something more common and restarting the router, but I can't connect at all on these devices.Model: Cisco Linksys WRT160N v3.Firmware version: 3.0.03.
I cant get my laptop to connect to my wrt160n v3 router when wireless N is enabled my laptop supports b/g/n wireless.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEvery time I try to connect to the admin page of my router, I get "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." This happens with FIrefox 11, and started when I upgraded to 8 or 9. A machine running FF 3.6 does not exhibit this problem; I get right in. What IE 9 says is "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" (after complaining about the expired certificate).
I ran Wireshark to see if I could learn anything, but all I could figure out was this: https handshake was OK. First TLS packet is received by router, which then immediately issues a reset and ends the connection. I don't know why.
have I got a screwed up configuration (or router)?

WAG160N has MAC restrictions but MAC of WRT160N added, both in wireless and as a computer. Still won´t connect, gets to 85% in wireless connect mode then fails, gets to stage 4 of router recognition and fails, saying check cables. Cables changed to know working ones, still no success. Tried pinging 192.168.1.1 direct from computer with no success, no access to router log-in page at all. WAG 160N has no problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis was for a WRT160n v3.0.02 I looked up several suggestions online and decided to update the firmware to v3.0.03 This seemed to only make it worse as I could no longer connect, and when I turned the router off and back on it would allow me in for about a minute and drop me right away.I started tweaking with the settings, and came across some posts here such as this one, started tweaking with the channel settings and everything. Nothing. If anything I somehow made it worse since now instead of dropping repeatedly it wouldn't connect at all except for about a minute after restarting router, then it would drop completely (I would either get the limited access notification or I simply couldn't connect and windows said to unplug the access point. I recalled I had another Linksys router that I wasn't using in storage, a WRT54G2v 1.0.01 so I set that up, no problems... at first. All other devices picked it up right away, but once again, my new laptop decides it's too good for the freaking network and drops it repeatedly telling me there's a problem with the access point.
So at this point I'm thinking it might NOT be my network, but my wireless card or something, I uninstalled and reinstalled, updated drivers, (I use a Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC) I even came across this article and disabled browser service and NETBios (including all other devices on my network). It brought back the network on my laptop for a bit, only to smugly come crashing down again.
How do I setup a WRT160N as a wireless adapter to connect a wireless printer to my network? I do not use the wrt 160 as a router because I have an AT&T router for u-verse connection. Also, I physically cannot wire the printer to the main router (opposite corners of the house).

I have tried using the disk and downloading the latest drivers on-line but no luck. It picks up all the networks around me and mine, but it says trying to connect and just can't. I tried it on another laptop and everything works fine. Is there an issue with this adapter and the original USB ports or XP in general? I have checked and rechecked the passcodes, I have deleted all of the profiles and started from the beginning again. I removed my anti-virus program as well as the last effort. Nothing I do seems to make a difference though. This is just used to access the internet on a laptop that is dedicated to a telescope.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just moved an older Windows XP Desktop /w Service Pack 3 from my parent's house over to mine after having my laptop fail on me. It was previously connected wirelessly at their house with a Microsoft MN-510 wireless adapter. When I got it up and running at my house, it was not picking up any networks with the MN-510. So I picked up a new AE2500 today, thinking that the ancient MN-510 may be the problem. Plugged it in, threw in the disc and voila, it started picking up Networks. The problem is, It is not connecting to my Network. The router is a Motorola SBG901. I have already disabled the security on the router and made sure that the MAC Filtering is disabled, but it is still not connecting. There has been no other issues with connecting any of our other devices.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just moved and when I unpacked my ANCENT desktop (circa 2005), the wireless adapter, that had worked with no issues in my last home, would not connect to the internet. I bought a new one, a My router and internet connection are working just fine, as I am able to get on my laptop with no problems whatsoever. After doing many online searches and two long chat conversations with Linksys tech support, no one can seem to figure out what the problem is. The last Linksys person I talked to suggested that it might be the router settings that are preventing my PC from connecting. My internet provider (who provided the router) confirmed that there is nothing with the settings to prevent me from connecting to any device.
This is what happened: I installed the software with my new adapter. It worked fine for a day or so until I rebooted my computer. My friend messed around with it and somehow managed to get it to connect again (he has no recollection of how he did this).
When I clicked on "Find Available Wireless Networks", NOTHING came up even though I knew I had not only my own network available, but others in my range. I finally managed (with Linksys agent) to stop the Linksys software from managing the connection, and got Wireless Zero Connection to manage the connection. So now, when I click on my network, I get a little box that says, "Connected!", however in the list of available networks, it shows my network and says "Not Connected". And of course when I try to connect to the internet it does not work.
I can't download a driver because I don't have the ability to hardwire this PC to the internet. Plus, I got it to work before, so I figure there must be a way for me to get it to work again.
Just got the WRT54G2 and setup it fine with or without encrytion and passwords - however when I setup the other 2 pcs on my network - the only way I can get them setup and going is WITHOUT encryption and password protection - setiing up without encryption on those works fine, but it defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do. I was on the phone with Linksys for over an hour and they can't seem to get it to work either - guess they got stumped and after an hour - I was put on hold and then cut off.
