I connected the Router to the modem, and all the wired connected PCs were working perfectly. But then, i went to the setup page to configure the Wireless settings, and as soon I changed the SSID name, the connection internet connection droppedThe only way i had to fix this was by making a Hard Reset.after that, I also tryed changing values and settings from all the configuration tabs, and the wired connection was working properly, but as soon i changed any value from the Wireless tab, the internet connection dropped (even, in the diagnostics section, i could not do a ping to google. It says unknown host).
I updated the fimware on my WRT160N v3 and followed it up with a reset of the router. I then restored the router settings that I had saved. All the settings appeared to be good, but none of my wireless devices would connect. I reneted the pass phrases (WPA2) but still nothing. Tried to change the passphrase, still no good. I then did a factory reset of the router from the setiings page and manually re-entered and save the settings, again nothing. All of my devices are able to "see" the network and the correct SSID.

View 1 Replies View Relatedget a new router. but lets give it a try. I read many many post on how to optimize the speed of the router but none worked so far.I got a great wired Internet connexion hitting between 45 to 60 Mbps[URL] the wifi is crazy slow on Iphone, Macbook pro and iPad staying between 3 to 8 Mbps....
I tried to change all of the specs, did the firmware update. is there a perfect configuration with the new firmware ?

One poster gives the password which is arbitrarily substituted but when I tried that (having had the same problem), I couldn't get it to work and had to reinstate factory settings and repeat the configuration from scratch. Now, for some reason, I can't even do that anymore! 'admin/admin' is no longer accepted, and if instead I try to open the configuration using the Setup Wizard CD I get an error message saying "Unable to connect..." and telling me to press the 'reset' button (which I have of course done, to no avail). Yet pinging the router produces an immediate successful response and my access to the internet is as before.
I have a BEFSR41 V2 working as dial in ADSL connection. While I changed my settings of the UPnP in the router I lost access to the admin page. Well most strange is that everything is working.I kept my internet access as well as the computer and printer access. The only thing I lost is access to the router admin page. The password it was not defaulted to admin, neither kept the password that I had set up.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently lost the setup for my newly installed ea6500 for no apparent reason. had to restart from the ground.I have the latest upgrade but wonder about the differences between the linksys coonect to the online version vs stand along versions. DO nor like expensive software that losses its setup for no good reason.I also irritated that I am unable to access my cable box. I own it and cable box and lynkiys has no right to block me from it. 192.168.100.1. I was able to accessed it with my Belkin router and I should be able to access with this expensive ea6500 box!!
We NEED a non-gui version. The gui is great for simple networks and people who do not want to know anything about their network. it's ment to be use to deliver additional services to us at a cost. duplicated or generates random users with ip or mac addresses complicating the parental control.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was any way with a typical home router (for instance I have a Linksys WRT160N) to create a wireless network which is essentially sandboxed from the rest of my network. Basically I want devices on this network to be able to access the Internet only, but not any of the other computers on the network.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dell Inspiron 1545, and I recently had to re-install windows Vista(SP2) onto it because of a Trojan that snuck its way onto my hard drive I only had the Installation disc for the OS, and I'd lost the driver re-install disk. I went onto the Dell website and found all the required drivers for my computer. (I used my exact service tag and express code), I downloaded all of the drivers and ran them, and everything seemed to be working fine. Shortly after re-installing all of the drivers, I noticed that I could not connect to the internet through my wireless connection. I've tried all the keyboard shortcuts to "turn on" my wireless connectivity, I've tried installing a whole number of recommended wireless card drivers, and to no avail. This is a serious problem to me, as I am very active on the internet. My Ethernet connection works fine, (that's how I'm online posting this right now), my wireless card troubles.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just connected a WRT190N v2 Wireless Router to my XPS 400. When my wife tried to connect our other desktop to the wireless network, everything seemed fine. I noticed that, when she wasn't actively browsing or using the network, her computer would lose connectivity, but regain it when a browser was opened. When I tried to use the XPS, I found that it had no connection. I regained connectivity after using the Windows Network Diagnostic tool, but neither computer seems to keep connectivity when left alone, at least for very long.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a brand new Router/Modem combo., there is NO local/wired connection with XP, although other PCs has a good connection with strong signal.
Is it because a spectific folder needed for wired/local connection got lost, .... or Networking card inside got defective?
I plugged in a 2TB external USB drive and restarted the router. The Disk Management tab appears blank, doesn't give option to format.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have connected a Seagate Free Agent 500GB to the USB port of my E4200 and while it does work fine, When the drive has been idle for a while, it goes into power saving mode, turning the spindle motor off. This means it takes a few seconds to access the disk. Not a problem, but apparently, those few seconds are enough for either Windows or the E4200 to decide that the disk is no longer accessible. The share is still available, but I get missing folders and files, files won't open or are not found, and backups job with Acronis True Image will fail because it thinks the share is unavailable.Sometimes, constantly refreshing the view and opening files at random will revive the share, but often, the only way to get it back is to restart the computer.
The problem is definitely related to the power saving. If I leave a video clip playing or similar, so there's always some disk access preventing the drive from entering power save mode, it works fine. But 15-20 minutes of no disk activity immediately causes problems.
I am a avid fan of Linksys routers i blindly go buy it. But one feature which i feel isn't there on linksys is the ability to start downloads on the router and also peer to peer capability such as torrents. Asus routers have this and it works flawlessly love to have this feature on the Linksys routers. This is one and only request i ask for in firmware update?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 1 TB external drive plugged into my WRT610 and want to access the drive from both Mac and PC. I recently upgraded the Mac to Lion and they no longer enable Time Machine to back-up to a network attached drive (Ugh!). I thought a simple work around would be to clone the drive, but the FAT file format does not allow a file size greater than 4 GB. So I seem stuck. Can the router be configured to enable exFat file format for storage? I have the back-up drive in an obsecure location (this is why I want to access the drive over the network) and would hate to relocate the drive to a more visible location.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had originally set up my E1200 Jan 2012 & had Cisco Connect setup. I didn't use it much but back in Oct after being away for 10 days I didn't have internet connection. Had to re-set both cable modem--then I at least had connection via ethernet, but still no wifi connection. Had to turn off for awhile to get it Router to properly reset & work. & then I think I had to do another reset maybe in Dec, can't remember exactly.
As I mention in another post, I have been having frequent intermittent not connected to internet messages for a long time. Usually if I just turn wifi off & then turn it back on it finds my network (although frequently I notice that it was on my guest network rather than main). I still don't know if it is cable modem, router or my ISP, altho they came out & checked & said signals ok, but modem could be going (Its old but about to move so don't want to buy new modem now).
I updated to Mountain Lion about 2-3 weeks ago. After a Panic last night I was advised to make sure everything updated including router firmware. When I opened Cisco Connect it said I had an unsupported Operating System. Trying to figure this all out, I finally found links to download Cisco Connect that are supposed to be compatible w Mountain Lion (at least the original link said that, but not where I went w the links so hoping it is right link for that). Anyway I downloaded it & was reading a bit & then clicket on the setup icon.
That said it was damaged & to eject it. I downloaded it via wifi just like I download other software. Maybe it is hyper sensitive so I need to take it over to plug directly into my cable modem? But then that will mess up the router, although I guess it will need to be reset any way.So I think i need to get Cisco Connect updated so it works w Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion told me about 1 software that wasn't compatible but didn't pick up on Cisco Connect. So don't know if I need to do a hard wired download, unlike the way I download other things, or what to get an undamaged copy. I then hope that it will see the old version, even though it isn't didn't work & hopefully pick up all my settings & all.
& then I guess I still need to check for a firmware update. & I understand that a firmware update should be done w a good connection (although the user manual just says good signal, web says hard wired ethernet. & because of the intermittent issues I plan to to it manually by 1st downloading & then installing from the download so there won't be a risk of interruption during install--if its even needed.
I bought an EA6500 router mid january. Firmware is 1.1.28.146856 from day 1 I used this new router. I attached my 750Gb Maxtor OneTouch 4 USB disk to it to share data over my network. I was able to define shares on it. Perfect. .. until I wanted to copy several GB's to this disk. It indicated it would take more than 1 day to finish this copy. So I removed this disc from the router (after removing it in the USB menu). I copied the data from my pc to the disc and attached it back to the router. From then on, it always indicates that no disc is present. Resetting the router did not work. Attaching a USB stick to the router does not cause a problem. It is visible and I can copy data to it. After attaching my Maxtor again, it shows no stations attached... (sharing a disk via the router was one of the reasons for buying this type)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to add a Linksys BEFSR41 4-port wired router to my Linksys WRT160N Wireless 4-port router. The reason is I need more ports for wired equipment, XBOX, Tivo's, Laser printer, TV's, etc. I'm out of ports. I'd rather add the wired to the wireless since I have no problem with my current wireless configuration.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday. Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues. Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected. When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms. They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's. I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference. I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support. We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.
It was so slow on my work computer, a pint to yahoo timed out. The computers connecting to router are
XP SP3 (mine)
Win 7 Home (IPV6 turned off)
Work laptop that uses VPN and VOIP
I have an e2000 wireless router and have several devices connected by ethernet cable including private data on an external hard drive. I am planning to allow a tenant in another building connect via an ethernet cable connected to my router. Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router? I know can password protect wireless access and limit access to the internet that way -- but my question is specifically to connections by ethernet cable.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy E4200 router no longer accepts any WIRED connections. I can connect from the modem to the computer and everything works as expected. I can connect other computers wirelessly to the router. I cannot connect any laptops WIRED to the router. Nothing has changed on the systems to restrict internet access. There is something wrong with the router and the WIRED ports. I tried going through the troubleshooting on this site but it was of little to no assistance. The Cisco Connect utility doesn't appear to accomplish anything either. My guess is because I cannot connect to the WIRED ports on the router to connect to the internet to allow for whatever troubleshooting that needs to be done.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a home network with a wired BEFSR41 that, for a variety of reasons, MUST be manually IP configured (DHCP off). All computers and other devices connected to it are manually IP configured. I desire to add a device that cannot be manually configured, and needs DHCP. I therefore need to daisy-chain two routers with the second one DHCP on (and manual IP connection to the main network). The new device needs two-way internet access, but doesn't care if it sees any other current network devices. I've tried several configurations, none seem to work.
