Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 - Guest Account Is Not Prompting For Password?
Jan 27, 2013I have setup my EA3500 for guest access however when my clients connect and start their browser they are never prompted for a password to continue their session. The browser times out. I can connect to the secured network by using the wireless password and the clients work.
I have the lastest firmware. I have a host of different clients, Kindle Fire HD, RIM Playbook, Windows 7 laptop. I have turned off guest account restarted, reconfigured and nothing changes. The browser always times out and the client is never prompted for a password. I bought this router because a friend that I visit has one so that visitors can use the internet...I know hers works, I have brought my Kindle along with me and connected to her Linksys router and it prompts for a password. I liked the feature so much I bought this one.
FYI. This router was replaced under warranty, I spent two days (I'm not kidding) on the phone with Linksys support trying to get the first one to work. I rebooted, reset to default, changed settings, tweaked, used different clients all with no effect so they replaced it.

Dec 13, 2011My linksys 4200 was set up some time ago for me, (unsecured) and was working fine. I was having problems with just 1 desktop that was using a usb wireless adapter, so I went and purchased a new cisco ae2500. While connecting I used the push button that it described, only it knocked out the network, and all the other computers are now off of the network. The new network(s) are Cisco_WPS_42526 (secure) and Cisco_WPS_42526-guest. Not knowing the network key and the guys that set it up are gone, I tried the guest. WHICH REQUIRES A PASSWORD!!!! I can now not get ANY of my computers online! How do I find the security, or the password? Why would you need a password for an insecure network anyway?

The regular (non-guest) account works as advertised. The E1200 is connected to my Verizon modem/router. I have tried disable/enable of DHCP on the E1200; I have tried setting the E1200 Static DNS 1 to my Verizon router IP address without success.

Jan 20, 2012I haven't found a way to rename the Guest account on my E3000 router. If my router is named HomeRouter the Guest account automatically gets the name HomeRouter-guest. I have disabled the router's SSID broadcast, but it still broadcasts the almost identical Guest account.

Oct 10, 2011I want to disable the guest access connection on E1000 wireless router but this option is not in the firmware menu. So, now I read that I need to use Cisco Connect on the CD to change this feature. When I run the Cisco Connect software, it says it can't configure the router (probably because I already have it configured). Why doesn't the Cisco Connect software simply take me to the settings where I can change the guest access feature? Why does it try to re-configure the router? Whoever designed this at Cisco was probably smokin some medical MJ because it doesn't make any sense that I have to go through so many hoops to do something so simple.

Mar 19, 2012We have a wireless router on our network 192.168.23.xxx and if the main router SSID is enabled we can connect to the internet, but am also connected to the network. I want to allow guests to use the wireless but not be able to see our network, I disabled the SSID broadcast and setup the Guest account and enabled the guest SSID broadcast. The note in the configuration says that guest will have to open a web browser and enter the password to use the internet. When connecting to the guest account nothing happens. I never see a login screen, nothing. I typed 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and it did oopen a login page for the guest account but does not connect to the internet. The network viewer says it is connected but the webpage says limited or no connectivity.

Apr 4, 2013an EA6500 router that has intermmitent connectivity issues. Went into the configuration page and saw he was a couple versions behind on firmware. Used the online update option, firmware downloaded and then indicated that router would reboot. Did not power off router or leave the configuration web page. Watched light go out on router and come back on, but the spinning wait icon never went away after 5 minutes. Powered off and on and was back at the same point with the old firmware still. Downloaded the firmware to local drive and applied from local file, but same results. Waited 10 minutes this time. Surely it doesn't take more than 10 minutes for the router to reboot itself from a firmware flash?
Gave up on trying to update firmware and configured wifi settings. Left friend's house and then got a message about 15 minutes later that the router had locked up again. If he pulls power for 2 minutes it will then work for another short period of time.
Is there anything that can be done to try and restore normal operation to this particular router, or are these all signs of a hardware failure and the unit should just be replaced?

Jul 10, 2009Just got a WRT120N and went online to get the most recent firmware and when i performed the upgrade it's gets about 3/4 of the way completed before it just stalls and start screen blinking like it's caught up or something. I using a modem, wrt120n router connection with a Brand New Sony Vaio laptop. I was able to upgrade my old WRT54G V5 router but can't seem to get the new router to update.

On the mac it looks like a normal zip file but when I click to "unzip" it it just creates another zip file. When I download it on a pc it doesn't even look like a zip it's just a blank white square. Nov 8, 2012I just purchased 3 E4200v2 routers. As I am prepping them to install, I am attempting to update the firmware from 2.0.26 -> 2.0.37. I downloaded the zip file from the Cisco support site and when unzipped the file is named FW_E4200_2.0.37.131047.SSA. When I attempt to do a manual update from the Admin page, I imediately get an image file is incorrect error.
I've downloaded the file a total of three times on 2 separate networks and have tried three different browsers to attempt the update, all with the same error. The support chat sessions have proven worthless, they seem very scripted and the last one kept trying to sell me a support contract...
I want to stay with the Classic firmware, even though it is lacking current bug fixes. Does anyone have a "good" copy of the 131047 firmware? It appears to me that the one on the Cisco site is broken.
