Linksys Wireless Router :: Access Restrictions On Current E2500?
May 28, 2012
I have an old WRT54G and the access restrictions really don't work. it's sloppy and ineffective.
i'm thinking about upgrading... perhaps to the E2500. Do the access restrictions now work properly? Am I able to allow access to a specific site only during certain times?
For instance, am I able to provide access to [URL] only during 6:00pm-9:00pm and block it otherwise?

I'm having problems with the access restrictions feature on the WRT600N. I do have the latest firmware upgrade, which was released in 2008 I believe. Anyways whenever I totally block a PC from the internet either by MAC or by IP, it affects the internet on the rest of the house. Logins to sites do not work right. Logouts from do not work right. Different features of different sites will not work properly. There also will be a lag sometimes when entering the url for a new site. But as soon as I turn the access restriction off, everything goes immediately back to how it should be working.

I have access restrictions set up for certain wireless devices in my home that the kids use to kick them off at 11 pm and keep them off all night. where I am running into a problem is I want to block these same devices from downloading anything without my permission my son downloads everything he sees, Comcat has already threatened to kick us off their service if we go over 250 gb bandwidth use in a month again. so I want to configure something in the router that will block all downloads for specific wireless devices. with the access restrictions I have set up I used the mac address not just the ip so they have no way around it I constantly monitor what is connected. I am using the stock firmware as well

I decided to limit some Internet time for the kids going off this router (which has been working great since set up) but my Access Restrictions tab is missing. I have an identical router at my work place, same version/firmware, same settings, but the one at work does have the tab.

I am trying to get a cell phone to have access to my LAN from 3am to 7am. I gave the policy a name, allowed access, checked everyday and the time 3a to 7a. Under edit list of PCs, I entered the MAC address of the phone, and I have also entered the MAC address of the phone on the wireless>edit mac filter list, though didn't know if I should.

I keep trying to set access restrictions for my wrt54g router for time. There is no 12 for time so I'm selecting 11:55 pm to 6am but I keep getting an error message of, "end time must be bigger then begin time." I get this no matter if I select 9pm, 10pm, etc.

I am using a WRT150N with firmware v1.00.5. I have a Linux setup with Squid connected to the network with the gateway 192.168.23.254. The WRT150N has a gateway of 192.168.23.1. The WRT150N is also connected to an Apple Base Station which serves as the Access Point for WiFi users.Squid limits access for IP addresses listed under the .254 gateway. But once I change my gateway to 23.1, everything is accessible. I want to block sites as well on the WRT150N. But every time I try to put a new Access Restriction, it doesn't work.

I want to set up access restrictions to one MAC address (my kid's machine) basing on week days. From Su to Th allow less access time while during Fr-Sa afternoons access time should be longer. The question is how to program it in router. I know I can set rules with "allow" and "disable" keyword, but I don't know rules preference. When I set (Su-Th 6-21) allowed access time then router automatically denies defined machine internet access outside this time range. The problem is in the power of thus calculated denying time. I want to allow more access time in weekend, so I hoped if I can simply add "Fr-Sa 6-22:30 allowed access time" rule. I hoped that router will regard explicitly set time over inexplicitly set time but it appears it is not so. What are their preferences/priorieties, iis it possible to stack more rules affecting one MAC address or it is so simple that the first rule "rulez"? Is it possible to set more than one time rule affecting the one machine?

I had a E1200, I read the articles from the support about the routers, I think the "access Restrictions" has more flexible to setup on for the parental control, after chated to cisco support person online, I was told that the E1200 v2 has this "access restrictions" function, and I wan convinced to purchase from them. I did. I got the E1200 v2 recently, however, after I installed the CD and found there is no "access restrictions" tab, instead the "access policy" is still there. by the way the firmware is 2.0.02 now. How to get the "access restrictions" from setup? I've chatted with cisco support person twice again, but nobody can fix the problem, one suggested to restart and reinstall the CD. I uninstalled the software, restarted the computer and reinstalled the CD. same problem, no tab of "access restrictions".

Recently switched from WEP to WPA2 on the router and let it run a few days. Everything was copacetic.
Then decided to implement the following access restrictions:
1 - Target MAC based, internet blocked from 9-11:55 PM (why won't it let you block from 9PM-7AM ;-( ), blocks son #1's laptop, Kindle
2 - Target MAC based, internet blocked from 10-11:55 PM, blocks son #2's Kindle
3 - Targets IP Address range based (192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254), across all devices blocks several porn sites all the time
I can get on a play games online but when we start watching video with all 3 restrictions enabled, it will eventually disconnect (can take 1-5 minutes before it happens). Rebooting XBox usually reset connection, but it would happen again eventually. After disabling all restrictions, disconnects completely stopped.
Is it not possible to have Access Restrictions in place on a WR54G and still stream video?

I 'd like to use the access restrictions capabilities of the WRT610N v2. Unfortunely the "Access Restrictions" menu is missing in the admin GUI; I 've got all the others : "Set -up", "Wireless", "Security", Storage, Applications and Gaming, Administration and Status. I've checked the Firmware already and i'm using the very last one available on the cisco web site. I also noticed that I do not have the "Linksys by Cisco" text on the upper left corner as one can read on user guide but just "Cisco".

I have bought and installed an E2500 router 4 days ago. Installation of router and network using Cisco Connect was easy and without problems. However, after 4 days of usage, not changing anything in the network nor running Cisco Connect or accessing the web interface, I tried to start Cisco Connect and got the message "Cannot access your router".Internet is running, router is accessible via 192.168.1.1 in a browser window, Cisco Connect also works fine on my laptop. The only solution I found on this forum is: reset your router and reinstall Cisco Connect.and then every 4 days resetting my router and reinstalling the software?

I bought a new e2500 and it is working fine, all but port forwarding. This is not even close to my first router and I am advanced when it comes to setting these up. I have tried for days to get port 80 to open up and it refuses. Now I do notice that when you access the router setup through a web interface, it uses port 80. I have forwarded port 80 to the ip address of the device, put in a reservation in DHCP with MAC address, etc. etc. and still nothing. Heck, I have even turned that specific device IP into a DMZ, and it STILL will not work. For the record, I had an e2000 set up the exact same way and it worked just fine and I was able to access port 80.

I have an E2500 running as a router/DHCP server. For reasons beyond the scope of this question, I am replacing the router and DHCP functions with a SonicWALL device. I would like to continue to use the E2500 as a wireless access point only, providing WiFi connection to the SonicWALL. How do I set up the E2500 for this purpose. I assume I switch off the DHCP server and NAT within the device. Is there a dedicated "access point" mode?

Here is my setup.Using all MAC OSX I have AT&T DSL ISP connected to a (ISP provided) Speedstream 5100 Modem.I just purchased a Cisco Linksys 5200 N Router and I cannot access the internet. I followed the set-up instructions to the T but to no avail. I cannot find anything online about these two devices being incompatable. Do I purchase a new modem? If so how can I be sure it's compatible with the router?

I bought the router E2500 and I followed the steps for its configuration. It so happens that most of the time I turn on my router, it does not connect to microcomputer, because it loses the internet settings, requiring that I turn the CISCONNECT and after that, I have to turn off the microcomputer, wait for 2/3 minutes and then reconnect, for only then will be able to surf the internet. I notice that many times even I doing all this procedure the router does not give access to the internet. What should I do?

I have an existing home network with a D-link wireless router, IP 192.168.0.1. In the past, I set up another of the same model Dlink router as a WAP to extend my network by simply disabling DHCP and setting its IP to 192.168.0.100. Used the same SSID and passwords, worked flawlessly. Now, my WAP-router has failed and I purchased a LINKSYS E2500 to replace it in that function. I'm trying to configure it the same way but am having problems. The Linksys' IP is 192.168.1.1 by default. I hooked its LAN port to my laptop and accessed the setup page at 192.168.1.1. I changed the router IP to 192.168.0.200 and disabled DHCP. I saved settings, the router reset, and since, I am unable to re-connect to that router setup screen at either 192.168.0.200 OR the default 192.168.1.1. I reset the router to default and tried this multiple times but could never get back to the setup page (didn't even configure any wireless settings yet) after I made the IP change and disabled DHCP. With my previous router, this worked easily and flawlessly.
1. What am I doing wrong (ok, other than using Dlink components)?
2. Should these two different brand components work ok together llike this or is that a problem?
3. Why should unticking DHCP and/or changing the IP address as described make the device unreachable?

I just purchased an E2500 wireless router. I put the Cisco Connect setup disc in and it could not find my router. With excellent Tech Support, I got it to work. I still do not have any Cisco Connect software on my PC to set passwords or preferences. If I try to run the disc again, it gives me a system critical error and shuts down my computer. How can I get software to access my router settings?

I did not use the CD to set up, and instead set this router up manually. We are using this router right now as a hotspot only.. and all is good. I can see both new networks and the WIFI laptops are talking no problem. Only issue I have is that guest access is not working - by that I mean it can't get out on the internet. I can see it as available and connect to it. Guest access and SSID broadcast are both enabled obviously.

using a Linksys E2500. I have a Ubuntu "server" set up which i can access on my LAN through VNC Viewer (windows machines) no problem. I can even access it through the external IP address on a machine inside the LAN (both internal address and external address work from inside the LAN). I set up port forwarding (per portforward.com) but i still can not access my machine from outside the LAN. It has a static IP as well btw.

Is it possible with the E2500 (or some other device) to rebroadcast a wireless signal? Here's the situation, I live on a boat, I want to connect my laptop to a local wireless signal (which I pay for). I then want to connect my E2500 to the laptop via the "Internet" port on the E2500. This doesn't work? This would allow all my wireless devices to stay connected to a single connection point. When I move the boat and change the wireless connection, I only have to do it once for a single connection. Is there some way to achieve this?

I just bought this Cisco E2500 router last night. I was able to set new pass phrase and name (SSID). I then proceeded to add wireless computers to the router-no problem. had 1 computer I couldnt set up because the person was sleeping. So this morning I go to set up their computer, and found the name (SSID) on the available networks. I clicked on it, and it connected right away WITHOUT ASKING FOR THE PASSPHRASE!!!!! NO ONE put the pass phrase in this computer before. I checked the connection-and sure enough, there was the passphrase right there on this computer! So HOW did this computer, that I hadnt ever tried to connect to this new network before- suddenly get the passphrase as well? if anyone in this neighborhood can just connect to my network and automatically get the passphrase like that-then I need to take this back and get a refund!! That isnt secure at all!

I am running a wired and wireless home network..using a G 2.4 router and access point. I purchased an Linksys E2500 N 5Ghz wiresless router can I still effectively use my Linksys G 2.4 g access point? Will I still have to get a linksys N 5Ghz access point to properly obtain the most speed and security?
I use the wireless with a cable service and use wireless access only for the cell phones via WiFi.I rarely use the desktops on the home network, I want to increase the speed for the cell phone via Wi-fi, Currently speedtest results were 4.80 for downloads and 2.0 for uploads. I have not much use for uploading except for sending photos via wi-fi.

I will be working from home half the time and am trying to get set up. So here it goes:
Took PC #1 home and hooked everything up. Could access Internet.Had to bring PC #2 home because #1 didn’t have the programs I needed.Hooked #2 up, no internet access.Tried different network cable – no access.Tried different router port – no access. (router port light doesn’t illuminate, neither does port on PC)My personal PC that uses the same router has internet access.Hooked #1 back up as a test – could access internet.Hooked up #2 again, did a Run, cmd, ipconfig and got “media disconnected”I brought #2 back in for a PC tech to look at. He hooked it up in his office, had internet access.Took it back home and hooked everything up.The port lights illuminated on startup; but after it got to the desktop, lights are off.Tried ipconfig again, "media disconnected”. IP address doesn’t display.
All the while I have internet access on my own PC, plus when I hook up #1 to the same port using the same cable, I have internet access, which led me to believe it's something wrong with PC #2.Tech is saying it’s a problem with my router (Cisco E2500), which I restarted too.
