Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Not Asking For User Name / Password

Jan 6, 2013

Having just upgraded from a WRT54G to a E2500 all I can say is that I'm disappointed with Cisco.Having spent a few hours yesterday trying to resolve issues via Live Chat (ID 130105-001270 & 130105-002081) and spending more time today - I'm truly at wits end. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with computers and networking.I'm not sure if anyone from Cisco's Tech staff sees these posts but I don't know where else to "complain" in hopes that the next software/firmware update resolves these problem(s).

The first is my router's setup screens are totally open when using my desktop. The desktop is hardwired to the router and has the Cisco Connect software installed. I open the Cisco software and go to advanced settings. There I'm shown what my router's name is and its password. This is really strange - why would you wish to display this information PRIOR to requesting username and password? However, once there you can go right into the setup screens by clicking OK.I have also entered these screens directly without being prompted for username/password by using 192.168.1.1 or my router.local via Internet Explorer 8 or Google Chrome. At other times I am denied access because IE cannot display page.I'm concerned because I can hide the Cisco Connect software however, anyone that uses my desktop has full access to my router via the web or Cisco Connect.

The second issue is that the password to enter the router and allow access to the internet IS THE SAME! When I had my WRT54G running I had one password (8 alpha characters) to enter setup screens. There was a router generated, 16 alpha/numeric character, password to allow outside devices such as laptops, TVs and game consoles access to the internet. When I set this router up I installed the 16 character password originally used so my laptop and Wii could connect without having to fool around with their settings. Everything was fine until I went into administration and changed the password to my old 8 character one. That is when I found out that the router uses this password setting under administration to control access to the internet AND access to the router settings!

I have uninstalled and reinstalled IE 8. I have ensured that my browser's history and caches are clear which they do when I shut IE down. I'm running Windows XP service pack 3 with the "proper" anti-virus and anti-malware software. My system is up-to-date.I have ensured that the router is running the latest firmware 1.0.05 build 2 and software 1.4.11299.0.I have seen other posts suggesting the removal of Cisco Connect however, I feel that this is a bandaid solution.I'm not professing  to be a router technician however, I "feel" the problem might be the fact that the password issue is the problem. Since the same one is being used for both accessing the router and having the router grant access to the net, my desktop is allowed to access the setup screens without being prompted for username and password.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Setup E2500 With Slingbox Solo

Sep 22, 2012

Slingbox no longer uses software, but is now web based. I got a new computer and when I go to the site it can't locate my slingbox on their network.

When I go to the site and sign in, it loads the application but then scolls as it looks for my box on the network until it times out. Slingbox directory shows my slingbox, but it says unconfigured.

I called tech support, where I was told my 90 days for free support had expired 2 weeks ago.  The port forwarding instructions I found on the internet made references to going into the router and selecting port range forwarding and have start and end port of 5100 and then enable that port.

When I go to support on the slingmedia page, it displays my slingbox with Slingbox status alert, software warning.   Instructions state go to slingmedia site and look for update, but if my box is not on thier directory, I can't download update.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Cannot Connect To Setup Page

Apr 21, 2012

I can't connect to my setup page [url]... I get to the page that says..."There is a problem with this website's security certificate." Then I click the "continue to this website (not recommended). After this it will not connect

Tried with IE9 and Firefox 11

Firefox says "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."

Internet still works. PC is connected directly to router. Tried different port on router. Tried installing CiscoConnect.E2500.1.4.11299.0,0, but it fails saying there is no router connected to PC. Like I said I am on the PC now, wired to router and have internet access via cable modem connected to router. I can see my ireless printer on the network also..

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Is There A Setting Or Setup That Needs To Be Changed

Feb 17, 2012

I had to change from a WRT300N wireless router which died to a new E2500.  I noticed that the speed my computers report that they are connected to the wireless network connection is now 144.5 mps, versus 270 mps with the WRT300N.  There is no change in location of the devices or computers.  The computers use a WUSB300N adapter. Is there a setting or setup that needs to be changed?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 How To Occasionally Change Password To Enter Into Network

Mar 17, 2012

I have an E2500 router.  When I enter 192.168.1.1 as a web address I am asked for a User name and password.  When I do not enter anything for user name and put “admin” in password the screen again asks me for the same two things and eventually goes to a 401 message.

When I enter admin in user name and my secure password to allow devises to connect to the network it lets me in. I thought the password to enter the system settings  and the one to enter the network are usually separate.  When I open the Cisco Connect program and go into the various menus there my “secure” password is written and visible for anyone who clicks it. Is this how it is supposed to work? Also, how do I occasionally change  the password to enter into the network.

Cisco :: WPA2 Password Changed / Cannot Access Linksys E3000 Router Setup

May 21, 2011

I have a Linksys E3000, have had it successfully connected for three months now. Recently I attempted to connect my xbox 360 to the wifi and had issues connecting it. So I called ATT to obtain the PPPoE username and password, which they reluctantly gave me. Entered that into the xbox and still unable to connect, so I have given up on the xbox for the time being, I'll post that issue in a different forum. Where my issue is now is since contacting ATT the WPA2 password I set up for the router no longer works. I cannot access the router setup page, and I cannot add any new wifi devices. Although, all of the previously connected wifi devices are still connected to the router despite this issue. Is there anyway to make the old password work, or do I have to reset the router and start from scratch, and God forbid contact ATT again?

However, after 4 days of usage, not changing anything in the network nor running Cisco Connect or accessing the web interface, I tried to start Cisco Connect and got the message  "Cannot access your router".Internet is running, router is accessible via 192.168.1.1 in a browser window, Cisco Connect also works fine on my laptop. The only solution I found on this forum is: reset your router and reinstall Cisco Connect.and then every 4 days resetting my router and reinstalling the software?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Will Not Allow Port 80 Access

Apr 21, 2012

I bought a new e2500 and it is working fine, all but port forwarding.  This is not even close to my first router and I am advanced when it comes to setting these up.  I have tried for days to get port 80 to open up and it refuses. Now I do notice that when you access the router setup through a web interface, it uses port 80.  I have forwarded port 80 to the ip address of the device, put in a reservation in DHCP with MAC address, etc. etc. and still nothing.  Heck, I have even turned that specific device IP into a DMZ, and it STILL will not work. For the record, I had an e2000 set up the exact same way and it worked just fine and I was able to access port 80.

It so happens that most of the time I turn on my router, it does not connect to microcomputer, because it loses the internet settings, requiring that I turn the CISCONNECT and after that, I have to turn off the microcomputer, wait for 2/3 minutes and then reconnect, for only then will be able to surf the internet. I notice that many times even I doing all this procedure the router does not give access to the internet. What should I do?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Using E2500 Wifi Access Point?

Dec 13, 2012

I have an existing home network with a D-link wireless router, IP 192.168.0.1.  In the past, I set up another of the same model Dlink router as a WAP to extend my network by simply disabling DHCP and setting its IP to 192.168.0.100.  Used the same SSID and passwords, worked flawlessly.  Now, my WAP-router has failed and I purchased a LINKSYS E2500 to replace it in that function. I'm trying to configure it the same way but am having problems. The Linksys' IP is 192.168.1.1 by default. I hooked its LAN port to my laptop and accessed the setup page at 192.168.1.1.  I changed the router IP to 192.168.0.200 and disabled DHCP. I saved settings, the router reset, and since, I am unable to re-connect to that router setup screen at either 192.168.0.200 OR the default 192.168.1.1.  I reset the router to default and tried this multiple times but could never get back to the setup page (didn't even configure any wireless settings yet) after I made the IP change and disabled DHCP.  With my previous router, this worked easily and flawlessly.

1. What am I doing wrong (ok, other than using Dlink components)?

2. Should these two different brand components work ok together llike this or is that a problem?

3. Why should unticking DHCP and/or changing the IP address as described make the device unreachable?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Using E2500 As Access Point From Another Wi-Fi Device?

I then want to connect my E2500 to the laptop via the "Internet" port on the E2500. This doesn't work? This would allow all my wireless devices to stay connected to a single connection point. When I move the boat and change the wireless connection, I only have to do it once for a single connection. Is there some way to achieve this?

So this morning I go to set up their computer, and found the name (SSID) on the available networks. I clicked on it, and it connected right away WITHOUT ASKING FOR THE PASSPHRASE!!!!! NO ONE put the pass phrase in this computer before. I checked the connection-and sure enough, there was the passphrase right there on this computer! So HOW did this computer, that I hadnt ever tried to connect to this new network before- suddenly get the passphrase as well? if anyone in this neighborhood can just connect to my network and automatically get the passphrase like that-then I need to take this back and get a refund!! That isnt secure at all!

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Effectively Use G2.4 G Access Point

I am running a wired and wireless home network..using a G 2.4 router and access point. I purchased an Linksys E2500 N 5Ghz wiresless router can I still effectively use my Linksys G 2.4 g access point? Will I still have to get a linksys N 5Ghz access point to properly obtain the most speed and security?

I use the wireless with a cable service and use wireless access only for the cell phones via WiFi.I rarely use the desktops on the home network, I want to increase the speed for the cell phone via Wi-fi, Currently speedtest results were 4.80 for downloads and 2.0 for uploads. I have not much use for uploading except for sending photos via wi-fi.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 - No Internet Access For 2nd PC / Media Disconnected

Apr 16, 2013

I will be working from home half the time and am trying to get set up. So here it goes:

Took PC #1 home and hooked everything up. Could access Internet.Had to bring PC #2 home because #1 didn’t have the programs I needed.Hooked #2 up, no internet access.Tried different network cable – no access.Tried different router port – no access. (router port light doesn’t illuminate, neither does port on PC)My personal PC that uses the same router has internet access.Hooked #1 back up as a test – could access internet.Hooked up #2 again, did a Run, cmd, ipconfig and got “media disconnected”I brought #2 back in for a PC tech to look at. He hooked it up in his office, had internet access.Took it back home and hooked everything up.The port lights illuminated on startup; but after it got to the desktop, lights are off.Tried ipconfig again, "media disconnected”. IP address doesn’t display.

All the while I have internet access on my own PC, plus when I hook up #1 to the same port using the same cable, I have internet access, which led me to believe it's something wrong with PC #2.Tech is saying it’s a problem with my router (Cisco E2500), which I restarted too.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 As An Additional Access Point Will Not Connect

Oct 16, 2012

I have AT&T Uverse which provides Internet for my home.  The wireless capability of this router is pretty bad, I don't get good/reliable wireless reception upstairs in my office.  The solution was to buy a Cisco E2500 and add it as an access point upstairs.

I have the E2500 LAN port connected to the LAN port of my uverse router downstairs.  DHCP is turned off on the E2500.  I have my office PC wired into the E2500.  The home PC works fine, its getting DHCP from the uverse router downstairs and connects and good speeds.  The problem comes with my wireless devices trying to connect to the E2500.

I should mention that yesterday when i bought this, all worked fine.  This morning when I came into my office none of the wireless devices would connect to the E2500 at all.   But as soon as I remove the cable that connects the E2500 to the uverse router downstairs they will connect via wireless but of course not get an IP address since that is disabled.

I have factory reset the E2500 and uverse router several times and am getting no where. what could be causing the wireless devices to not connect at all?
