I still don't think the IOT Cable Modem fix did the trick because the EA6500 seems more unstable then it was before.... now every few hours it loses sync with my cable modem and I have to reboot the router for it to function normally.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to a E3000 from a WRT54G and I am having some issues with network speed.I have no special settings and have even tried restoring factory defaults and upgrading to the latest firmware to no avail.The time I notice the biggest hit is when transferring files locally on the network (WiFi and LAN).Let me note that I do know the difference between MB/s & Mb/s and the like.I have Comcast 20Mb/s Down, 1.5Mb/s Up (just a FYI, the main issue is local transfers)
With default settings my Laptop (ASUS N82JQ, Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter), connects to the router at only 65Mb/s (with full signal).Upload seems to be more decent ~600KB/s (Transferring files from wireless n laptop to the gigabit desktop).Download seems to be limited to ~150KB/s (Copying files from the wired gigabit desktop to the wireless n laptop).These speeds are horrible! ~5hrs to transfer 3GB of data!
One of my laptops had a card that was capable of both 2.4 & 5Ghz and I was previously getting ~2000-5000KB/s (2-5MB/s) transfers with this router (But I had to do a system restore on it and reset the router). My ASUS laptop seems to only work with 2.4Ghz though. If I change the 2.4Gh Wireless settings on the router to "Auto(20MHz or 40MHz)" the laptop will connect at 150Mb/s, but the speeds are the same slow speeds as above.
an EA6500 router that has intermmitent connectivity issues. Went into the configuration page and saw he was a couple versions behind on firmware. Used the online update option, firmware downloaded and then indicated that router would reboot. Did not power off router or leave the configuration web page. Watched light go out on router and come back on, but the spinning wait icon never went away after 5 minutes. Powered off and on and was back at the same point with the old firmware still. Downloaded the firmware to local drive and applied from local file, but same results. Waited 10 minutes this time. Surely it doesn't take more than 10 minutes for the router to reboot itself from a firmware flash?
Gave up on trying to update firmware and configured wifi settings. Left friend's house and then got a message about 15 minutes later that the router had locked up again. If he pulls power for 2 minutes it will then work for another short period of time.
Is there anything that can be done to try and restore normal operation to this particular router, or are these all signs of a hardware failure and the unit should just be replaced?

I recently swapped a EA4500 for an EA6500 and have been experiencing intermittent Internet connection issues, specifically periodic disconnects (as some other users have reported). The router is connected to a Motorola SB6121 Cable Modem with Comcast as the cable provider. I contacted Comcast and they specify 1500 as the MTU size. With the Router set to Auto, I experience the periodic disconnects. When the MTU is manually set, I still experience the periodic disconnects, and I noticed that a ping test specifying the packet size with the -l switch results in a fragmented packet and is only resolved when the ping packet size is reduced by 28 bytes. Thus, it appears that the MTU specified on the router fragments all packets of that size and up to 27 bytes less than the MTU setting. For example, with the MTU set to 1500, all packets 1473 or larger are fragmented; with the MTU at 1444, all packets 1417 or larger are fragmented. I believe there is a bug in the current firmware, which I have installed on this router as version 1.1.27.141816. View 4 Replies View RelatedI made a big mistake and updated my EA6500 with the wrong firmware.I selected "ver.1.1.38.149770" which I shouldn't have done since it's for the the EA6700 which i read aftwerwards....how stupid can one be Anyway, the device is not started up as it should.I'm able to use it as a cabled router but it's not sending out any wireless signal and the led light is blinking.A factory reset obviously didn't work since the firmware was wrong.So, my question is if it's possible to revert to an older firmware using the USB port?Or for example push a firmware using an ADB command if it's possible to connect using a cable?Or in some other way?

I went ahead & updated my firmware but lost connectivity to my Comcast cable modem. I was leaving for work so I had to pull the router & revert back to my original Linksys router.zBig storm heading my way, figured the wifw ywould need internet to track Hurricane Sandy. Any others have a new firmware waiting for install this AM? Keeping my fingers corossed on this firmware upgrade. I'm hoping it solves the device map issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a linksys router(befsr41 v3) with the latest firmware(1.05.00) - i have been using it for at least 7 or 8 years now - at one time i had 3 computers hooked up and they all three worked fine. Now i have 2 plugged into the router - both are xppro machines - the one i am on now works with no problems. The other computer however has the limited or no connectivity problem.I used this router for years without any problems then one day this ip conflict message started to appear.
I started getting this ip conflict message on both computers but only occasionaly - it never caused any problems - if you ignored it - it would simply go away.Then one day computer #2 got the limited or no connectivity message - i simple reboot fixed it. This solution worked several times. Computer #1 has never had any problems with the internet connection.Sometime later the limited or no connectivity problem reappeared and this time a reboot did not work - i searched for a fix and decided to try changing the link speed from auto sense to 10mb half duplex - this solved the problem. This solution worked several times.
Sometime after that the limited or no connectivity reappeared and after some searching i upgraded the routers firmware - this solved the problem.Sometime later the limited or no connectivity reappeared and this time i had to actually uninstall the NIC, reboot and then let it redetect the NIC and then the problem was fixed. This solution worked several times.Sometime later (wich brings us to 3 or 4 months ago) the limited or no connectivity reappeared and this time after searching for a fix i was able to fix it by updating the NIC drivers. Problem solved.
This brings us to now - the limited or no connectivity has reappeared and none of the previous fixes correct the problem.When i originally set everything up it worked immediately out of the box.DHCP is enabled - everything is set to obtain an ip address automatically.At first the event viewer on computer #2 reported The IP address lease 192.168.1.100 for the Network Card with network address 0xxxxxxxxx has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1. {The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message}.
Now the even viewer just tells me it is using ip address 169.254.xxxxxx
I have tried all of the previous fixes to no avail. I've tried shutting everything off and turning everything back on - i've tried resetting both the modem and the router - i've tried upgrading the firmware again. I even downloaded LELA and installed it on both computers thinking maybe it would detect and fix the problem buy no such luck. LELA simply tells me that computer #1 is working normally. On computer #2 when i installed LELA the first thing it did was try to find the router and it tells me it cannot find it.
I tried uninstalling the NIC and removing the drivers, rebooting and then reinstalling them. No luck.
I tried setting a static ip on computer #2 with no luck. When i did these two error messages appeared in the event viewer of computer #1---

The name "MSHOME:1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address 192.168.1.100. The machine with the IP address 192.168.1.20 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.
If I ping the router from computer #2 it comes back 100% loss.
If I ping the NIC it comes back 0% loss.
I might also add that I can see both computer #1 and #2 in my home network workgroup on both computers. I've tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew - I've tried it one after the other and also a reboot in between. I've tried clicking on repair in the LAN status - I've tried resetting the ip stack with the netsh command - I've even tried different cables and switching ports on the router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the EA6500 Device Tab of the connected devices all the information should be considered as wrong or incomplete. The router and all devices set to static ip addresses work fine but you should use another information source as to what and where devices are connected on your network. Cisco says they are aware of the bug and are working on a firmware update.Also, reported to Cisco, when and if using Windows 8 and IE 10 the restore function does not respond with the IE 10. Works fine in Chrome and earlier Internet explorer.
Bugs are to be expected in any new device, but time will tell as to how fast Cisco fixes these issues and timely releases firmware updates to us their consumers. The connected device tab information bug needs a quick fix because anyone relying on the information would be working to connect devices that are already on the network or maybe listed with the wrong mac or ip address.
I have the Linksys BEFSR V2 router and at least once a day some or one of the ports become inactive and have to unplug the router and plug it back in to reset. I have ungraded to the latest firmware but this is still happening on a daily basis.

I have gigabit nics on all PCs but I am wondering if the old version 1 is only capable of 10mbps throughput. If that is the case then it may explain why I can get up to 20mbps download speeds off the modem and under 10mbps off the router. The router has the latest firmware and otherwise no problems.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running a D-Link DIR-655 Hardware Version A3, Firmware Version 1.21. In the past, it has been flaky, and I considered updating to the latest firmware (1.3+ something), but everywhere I read (mainly this forum) said it might be WORSE for the router and couldn't even be downgraded, so I decided to ride it out.
Eventually the problem disappeared and I forgot about it, but now it's back with a vengeance. Recently I opened up a Guest Zone so my neighbors could borrow wifi, and I occasionally run torrents. Torrenting seems to definitely crash the router overnight, while it also seems to randomly bug out, possibly when the neighbors are using the Guest Zone. The Guest Zone might be responsible, but I have no idea.
For what it's worth, I don't think my neighbors are terribly tech-savvy, so I doubt they're filesharing or doing anything risky. They might have malware installed, but I don't know.
Is there a way I can diagnosis my precise issue, should I go ahead and update to the latest firmware to try?
With firmware version 1.31, the Wireless settings page is blank when a browser other than Internet Explorer is used to access it - for instance, Firefox or Chrome.All other pages appear and seem to work properly, only the Wireless settings page is empty. Luckily, the Wizard still works and can be used to set the Wireless settings for general purpose use. Older versions of the firmware worked fine with other browsers, including the Wireless settings page.

I bought the DIR-615 router from Futureshop awhile ago because my Linksys WRT54G router keeps dropping connection every couple of hours. I have to unplug the router and re-plug it in order for it work again. On the DIR-615 admin page, it states Firmware Version: 5.10. Is this the latest firmware?
I'm trying to upgrade the firmware because I still experience connection drops from time to time (but not as much as I did with WRT54G)... it usually occurs when multiple devices are pulling signal from the router (for ex.
