Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Running Very Slow?
Apr 4, 2013I purchased an EA6500 router on March 1 2013 – since then my wireless network has became very unreliable. The network runs fine for a short period of time then it gets extremely slow. I constantly have to reboot the router to see better performance. When I run the built-in router speed check, it shows that I am getting 20 Mbps for downloads which is what I expected to see and then as time goes on, the speed goes as slow as 1 Mbps for downloads. I finally had to go back to my very old Linksys WRT54GS router to have a stable network again. I called Linksys customer support and they want to charge me a fee to diagnose the router that will only be refundable if they find any issues. I find it completely unacceptable to have to spend more money for an item that is only a month old that will probably show no issues when they run their diagnoses since they had me reboot the router while I was on the phone with them. I want to warn others not buy this router especially when the company cannot stand behind their product that is only 34 days old!

Oct 9, 2012Just got an EA6500 - updated to the latest available firmware.I've attached 2 x WD NAS and 1 x WD via USB to the unit.Everytime AFTER I finished running Time Machine on the MacBookPro (writing to one of the WD NAS), I can no longer login to the router neither from the local IP address nor the cisco cloud connect. The error message that I get (loosely phrased) is: can't connect to Router. Please ensure the router is connected to the internet.

Apr 4, 2013an EA6500 router that has intermmitent connectivity issues. Went into the configuration page and saw he was a couple versions behind on firmware. Used the online update option, firmware downloaded and then indicated that router would reboot. Did not power off router or leave the configuration web page. Watched light go out on router and come back on, but the spinning wait icon never went away after 5 minutes. Powered off and on and was back at the same point with the old firmware still. Downloaded the firmware to local drive and applied from local file, but same results. Waited 10 minutes this time. Surely it doesn't take more than 10 minutes for the router to reboot itself from a firmware flash?
Gave up on trying to update firmware and configured wifi settings. Left friend's house and then got a message about 15 minutes later that the router had locked up again. If he pulls power for 2 minutes it will then work for another short period of time.
Is there anything that can be done to try and restore normal operation to this particular router, or are these all signs of a hardware failure and the unit should just be replaced?

Oct 8, 2012I recently swapped a EA4500 for an EA6500 and have been experiencing intermittent Internet connection issues, specifically periodic disconnects (as some other users have reported). The router is connected to a Motorola SB6121 Cable Modem with Comcast as the cable provider. I contacted Comcast and they specify 1500 as the MTU size. With the Router set to Auto, I experience the periodic disconnects. When the MTU is manually set, I still experience the periodic disconnects, and I noticed that a ping test specifying the packet size with the -l switch results in a fragmented packet and is only resolved when the ping packet size is reduced by 28 bytes. Thus, it appears that the MTU specified on the router fragments all packets of that size and up to 27 bytes less than the MTU setting. For example, with the MTU set to 1500, all packets 1473 or larger are fragmented; with the MTU at 1444, all packets 1417 or larger are fragmented. I believe there is a bug in the current firmware, which I have installed on this router as version 1.1.27.141816. Mar 27, 2013I made a big mistake and updated my EA6500 with the wrong firmware.I selected "ver.1.1.38.149770" which I shouldn't have done since it's for the the EA6700 which i read aftwerwards....how stupid can one be Anyway, the device is not started up as it should.I'm able to use it as a cabled router but it's not sending out any wireless signal and the led light is blinking.A factory reset obviously didn't work since the firmware was wrong.So, my question is if it's possible to revert to an older firmware using the USB port?Or for example push a firmware using an ADB command if it's possible to connect using a cable?Or in some other way?

Oct 28, 2012Noticed this AM that a new firmware was releaesed to my EA6500!! Very surprised to find it Monday AM. I went ahead & updated my firmware but lost connectivity to my Comcast cable modem. I was leaving for work so I had to pull the router & revert back to my original Linksys router.zBig storm heading my way, figured the wifw ywould need internet to track Hurricane Sandy. Any others have a new firmware waiting for install this AM? Keeping my fingers corossed on this firmware upgrade. I'm hoping it solves the device map issue.

Aug 17, 2012I have a DIR-655 Version B running the stock 2.0 firmware and a Motorola SB6120 cable modem and my ISP is comcast. I have had comcast come out and test my line and everything is fine. I have a desktop directly wired to the internet and several portable devices accessing the router.I cannot connect to the internet. My network is available and none of my devices ever indicate the network isn't available. When I try to load a website it just says "waiting for reply..." and nothing happens. The solution that always works is rebooting both the modem and the router. What is odd is that this problem comes and goes, I will go a week with zero issues, then I go all week with rebooting my stuff 5-8 times a day..What have I tried? I tried the settings that are recommended by Furrynuts to users complaining. I have also tried changing the wireless band settings to different channels as well.

Oct 19, 2012In the EA6500 Device Tab of the connected devices all the information should be considered as wrong or incomplete. The router and all devices set to static ip addresses work fine but you should use another information source as to what and where devices are connected on your network. Cisco says they are aware of the bug and are working on a firmware update.Also, reported to Cisco, when and if using Windows 8 and IE 10 the restore function does not respond with the IE 10. Works fine in Chrome and earlier Internet explorer.
Bugs are to be expected in any new device, but time will tell as to how fast Cisco fixes these issues and timely releases firmware updates to us their consumers. The connected device tab information bug needs a quick fix because anyone relying on the information would be working to connect devices that are already on the network or maybe listed with the wrong mac or ip address.

Dec 18, 2011I am unable to connect both of my smart phones to the access point. I am using WPA2 encryption on the AP. I can connect my phones to other AP's using WPA2. I have other devices that connect to the AP except my Android phones. I would like to be able to get some debug logs except the web interface says that the logging fictions are disabled when in bridge mode. Cisco/Linksys tech support: Any troubleshooting tips other than resetting the access point and or reflashing it.

Jan 25, 2013Looking into a firmware upgrade. I have a WRT160N. The label on the back, next to Model Number, simply says WRT160N with no version number. I therefore conclude, per info on the Cisco site, that it is a V1 model, not V2 or V3. And yet the Admin web page for the router says firmware version is 3.0.02. I'm pretty confident I have never upgraded firmware on this router, which means this is how it came out of the box long ago. Latest firmware for V1 is 1.02.11; latest firmware for V3 is 3.0.03.
Should I upgrade to 3.0.03? Is there a way to downgrade to 1.02.11? I'm having some minor issues whch may or may not be the ruter's fault, I figure a firmware upgrade (downgrade?) will at least rule out router firmware issues.

Dec 27, 2012I have an E4200 router with 3 WET610N access points. I did the firmware update on the E4200 router about 2 weeks ago so my son could use his xbox when he got home after 4 months of being away. Everything seemed to work OK as far as I could tell....but when he went to sign into xbox live and watch Netflix, it will load to 98% and stop. A friend of his came over with the new Slim xbox 360 with built in wireless and it will connect fine on its own, if we hook up one of the 610N's to it, it will load to 98% on Netflix and stop again with error code R8152. Both of my older xbox's will hook up and play on xbox live, just not work with Netflix.
I also noticed, it shows the WET610N as a hard wire on xbox and will not search for any wireless networks, I have 2. The newer Slim xbox360 will search out both networks on its own if you allow it to use its internal wireless. This only happened since the firmware update. And this equipment was working fine before this. Is there a way I can restore the previous version of firmware?

Jan 23, 2011I have what I believe is an original (V1) version of the BEFSR41 gateway/router. The label underneath the device only shows the model number with no version information. Current firmware version on the device is 1.46.02, dated Aug 03 2004.
Can I confirm (1) that I indeed this router is at hardware version 1? If that is the case it appears from your web site that version 1.46.02 is in fact the current and only firmware version for the device and that there are no firmware version upgrades available.
The DHCP software current does not have IP address reservation, which I am interested in adding if possible via firmware upgrade. If not then I have to consider whether I want this feature bad enough to replace the router.
Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 V 3.1 - Firmware Upgraded To Wrong Version
Feb 26, 2012I own a Linksys BEFSR41 v 3.1. I've been attempting to set up a home network with three computers; my main desktop running Windows 7 Pro x64, a netbook running the same OS and a box running Windows Home Server 2011 x64. The firmware listed for my router was initially 1.05.03.
My router has the issue with resetting its administrative password to the factory default and I've been unable to set up remote access to my LAN and home server. I decided to try updating the router's firmware, but none of the versions listed fit the one I have. The label on my router says v 3.1, but Cisco's site only has a 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, then skips to 4.1, 4.2, etc. The instructions on the site warn not to use a version for a different model, but are vague as to exactly what that refers to, as the model # and the version # aren't clearly delineated.
Anyway, I tried using the latest firmware and received the, "File Pattern," error. Although it didn't seem like anything had changed, I reset the router just to be safe, then tried the v 3.0 firmware update, thinking that the software was intended for all revisions of v3.0. This time it reported updating without a problem, so I reset the router again and went back to the admin page in my browser to check the firmware version listed. To my annoyance, the firmware is now listed as 1.05.00 - i.e. an earlier version than what was shipped on the router.
This means that not only is the issue of the password resetting not fixed, but any other fixes included in the original firmware are now wiped out as well and, needless to say, I still can't set up remote access properly.
How do I restore the firmware version? Neither a reset nor a, "Restore to Factory Defaults," does this. How do I find an actual update for the router? I can't find any mention of a v 3.1 on Cisco's site, let alone support information specific to this model and version.

May 30, 2011I happened to update firmware version of my WAG54G2 to the latest version 1.xx.xx.19. Since then connection to internet has became erratic. If rebooted, the device mostly doesn't connect. Switching to PPPoE from PPPoA and vice versa works but i have to do it every time the device is rebooted. Sometimes even that doesn't work. Basically it acts random. DSL connection shows as connected, but the internet interface is mostly down. I was wondering if i can switch back to to old 1.xx.xx.10 version. It never gave me any trouble ever for around 2 years.
