Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Restoring Factory Defaults / Upgrading To Latest Firmware

Sep 16, 2010

I just upgraded to a E3000 from a WRT54G and I am having some issues with network speed.I have no special settings and have even tried restoring factory defaults and upgrading to the latest firmware to no avail. The time I notice the biggest hit is when transferring files locally on the network (WiFi and LAN).Let me note that I do know the difference between MB/s & Mb/s and the like.I have Comcast 20Mb/s Down, 1.5Mb/s Up (just a FYI, the main issue is local transfers)
With default settings my Laptop (ASUS N82JQ, Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter), connects to the router at only 65Mb/s (with full signal).Upload seems to be more decent ~600KB/s (Transferring files from wireless n laptop to the gigabit desktop).Download seems to be limited to ~150KB/s (Copying files from the wired gigabit desktop to the wireless n laptop). These speeds are horrible! ~5hrs to transfer 3GB of data!
One of my laptops had a card that was capable of both 2.4 & 5Ghz and I was previously getting ~2000-5000KB/s (2-5MB/s) transfers with this router (But I had to do a system restore on it and reset the router). My ASUS laptop seems to only work with 2.4Ghz though. If I change the 2.4Gh Wireless settings on the router to "Auto(20MHz or 40MHz)" the laptop will connect at 150Mb/s, but the speeds are the same slow speeds as above.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT120N Reset To Factory Defaults

Oct 26, 2009

We've lost our WRT120N's administrator password and are trying to reset it to factory defaults. One peculiar thing that we have noticed is that the router has an IP of rather than the default of (this is verified by the default gateway, as well as a login prompt when is put into a browser).Things we've tried to do to reset the router:

1) Press and hold the reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds

2) Press and hold the reset button at the back of the router for 60 seconds
Interestingly, doing either of these things seemed to have no effect on the status lights.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160Nv3 Constantly Resetting To Factory Defaults?

Jan 9, 2010

WRT160Nv3 Firmware Version: v3.0.02
I've been using Linksys for years but the last two routers I have purchased have been very problematic.
- My router hasn't had this problem before. The other day I was downloading 4 games at a time from STEAM, when I got home from work I found that my router had completely gone back to factory settings.  So I configured my DSL PPPoE, SSID, Wireless Security (WPA) changed the default admin PW and about 20 minutes later it was back to factory again.
I've done a "hard" reset and reconfigured and still it resets itself. What's also upsetting is this completely opens my network up to ANYONE when this happens...
So far in the past 2 days I have (now using a backup restore file) re-configured the device 10 times.
The only thing I can think of is that I just got Windows 7 the same day this started happening. I thought it could be STEAM as well so right now I have STEAM closed to see if it resets while it isn't running.
Could TOO much demand on the router cause it to completely reset itself to factory config?? Seems to me like there's a huge firmware or hardware problem here.
I have other friends and even co-workers that also have problems galore with their Linksys products...No other router it seems has as MANY issues as Linksys. Hat to say it but my next purchase most likely will not be another one of their products. This just shouldn't be happening.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS Factory Defaults / Resetting Connection Type From PPPoE To Bridge

Jan 17, 2012

I'm having a very difficult time getting my WRT54GS to work with my Westell 6100 modem. I've been bouncing around gathering info, and what I've learned is that the goofy way CenturyLink tech support told me to hook up my old wired router (modem line into outgoing (LAN) router port) is because the Westell 6100 is a "smart modem/router". Therefore, when I run the Linksys setup CD, it sees the modem as a router, and won't properly configure. I've also learned that the Westell modem can be "dumbed down" into simply a modem by putting it into "bridge mode", which is where I'm at right now - trying to get it reset to factory defaults and resetting the connection type from PPPoE to Bridge. In the meantime, I also reset the WRT54GS to factory defaults, and now I've got another problem: the router will not allow me to set up encryption. The default setting is "Disabled", and when I click the down arrow and try to make any selection at all (preferred selection is WPA2 Personal), it reverts to Disabled. I've also tried to change the router's IP address to (and alternately to, so it won't conflict with the modem's IP, and it freezes up every time I try.

D-Link DIR-601 :: Upgrading Firmware From 1.0 To 1.02 Will It Default Factory Settings?

Aug 6, 2011

I currently have this router in use with verizon dsl (PPPoe) setup.I have this set to "always on". Since the verizon modem, which is also router has been set into bridge mode and the d-link came into play its been extremely slow, and dropping connection. The router is in a separate IP class, and has no conflict with the modem. My question is, if I upgrade this firmware from 1.0 to 1.02 will it default to factory settings? I know it says only some will. I do have the backup config file, but i would be doing this remotely, and would not be able to get to this router if it goes down. Has anyone gone from 1.0 to 1.2 and saw a difference and speed, and are you able to do this without losing settings.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP121 Returns To Factory Defaults On Power Cycle?

Jun 11, 2012

I've just bought a pair of WAP121 for testing and validation. I've set it up properly (user/password, IP, management vlan, NTP, SNMP, 802.1x, etc). So far, so good, everything worked as expected. I've downloaded the configuration to my PC, and also saved it to startup-config. I've powered off the unit, went for a coffee, and powered it back. All my settings were lost.
Tried to restore settings from the file downloaded to my PC, but no luck. After reboot, it was factory clean, no trace from settings in the backup file. I've set it up again by hand, power cycled it, and the **** thing reloaded to default settings.
Faulty unit, I thought, so I opened the other one I have, and repeated the whole thing, but same results. Test were made using the power adapter supplied but also tried with a catalyst 2960 with PoE.

Linksys Router Befsr41 V3 With Latest Firmware 1.05.00 - Limited Or No Connectivity?

Feb 25, 2011

I have a linksys router(befsr41 v3) with the latest firmware(1.05.00) - i have been using it for at least 7 or 8 years now - at one time i had 3 computers hooked up and they all three worked fine. Now i have 2 plugged into the router - both are xppro machines - the one i am on now works with no problems. The other computer however has the limited or no connectivity problem.I used this router for years without any problems then one day this ip conflict message started to appear.

I started getting this ip conflict message on both computers but only occasionaly - it never caused any problems - if you ignored it - it would simply go away. Then one day computer #2 got the limited or no connectivity message - i simple reboot fixed it. This solution worked several times. Computer #1 has never had any problems with the internet connection.Sometime later the limited or no connectivity problem reappeared and this time a reboot did not work - i searched for a fix and decided to try changing the link speed from auto sense to 10mb half duplex - this solved the problem. This solution worked several times.

Sometime after that the limited or no connectivity reappeared and after some searching i upgraded the routers firmware - this solved the problem.Sometime later the limited or no connectivity reappeared and this time i had to actually uninstall the NIC, reboot and then let it redetect the NIC and then the problem was fixed. This solution worked several times.Sometime later (wich brings us to 3 or 4 months ago) the limited or no connectivity reappeared and this time after searching for a fix i was able to fix it by updating the NIC drivers. Problem solved.

This brings us to now - the limited or no connectivity has reappeared and none of the previous fixes correct the problem. When i originally set everything up it worked immediately out of the box.DHCP is enabled - everything is set to obtain an ip address automatically. At first the event viewer on computer #2 reported The IP address lease for the Network Card with network address 0xxxxxxxxx has been denied by the DHCP server {The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message}.

Now the even viewer just tells me it is using ip address 169.254.xxxxxx

I have tried all of the previous fixes to no avail. I've tried shutting everything off and turning everything back on - i've tried resetting both the modem and the router - i've tried upgrading the firmware again. I even downloaded LELA and installed it on both computers thinking maybe it would detect and fix the problem buy no such luck. LELA simply tells me that computer #1 is working normally. On computer #2 when i installed LELA the first thing it did was try to find the router and it tells me it cannot find it.
I tried uninstalling the NIC and removing the drivers, rebooting and then reinstalling them. No luck.

I tried setting a static ip on computer #2 with no luck. When i did these two error messages appeared in the event viewer of computer #1---

The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer (computer #2) that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{0876E9A8-C6E. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

The name "MSHOME:1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address The machine with the IP address did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.

If I ping the router from computer #2 it comes back 100% loss.

If I ping the NIC it comes back 0% loss.

I might also add that I can see both computer #1 and #2 in my home network workgroup on both computers. I've tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew - I've tried it one after the other and also a reboot in between. I've tried clicking on repair in the LAN status - I've tried resetting the ip stack with the netsh command - I've even tried different cables and switching ports on the router.
