I have a e4200 sitting behind a BT home hub 2. The home hub provides internet connection to the e4200, and the e4200 allows all devices to connect. I am able to ping internal IP addresses, but when I try to ping by device name it returns the external IP address. How can I view / amend the DNS table on the router?

I started by creating a VPN - everything worked great. I assigned the DNS Servers, Domain name, WINS Server so when I connect I'm able to resolve local hostnames on the network with no problem, however, I had no internet access... I then set up a split tunnel access list. Since I've set that up, I'm now able to ping internet based addresses url... but no longer able to resolve internal host names. I can ping the ip addresses, just name resolution no longer works. [code]
Having trouble with resolving DNS entries with their WRT160Nv2? By resolving I mean, every once in a while, it browsers will just hang and say "Looking up..." When using nslookup, it says DNS timeout. DNS request timed out timeout was x seconds. I have the firmware 2.0.02_11 installed. Hooking directly up to the modem, I can resolve entries consistently. When I plug in the router, it works for a little, but becomes very unstable after some time. I spoke with support about this and they suggested changing the IP of the router, as well as lowering the MTU to 1400. Both did not improve stability.
I just bought a Linksys 320N router to replace another competitors router. I am trying to connect to my VPN server from outside my network. I have the external ip to my network. I setup the new 320N router just like the old router. set dmz ip to internal ip of vpn server, set port forwarding to 1723, both, internal ip of vpn server, I have a way to test the vpn while i am inside my network. So, I can watch the VPN server log and see the request come into the server and it times out with the Linksys 320 N hooked up. If I have the old router hooked up, the vpn establishes a connection.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my router, WRT54G2. I was upgrading my firmware when my computer froze up, so I had to exit. Afterwards, I could not connect to the web based setup page anymore. I did a factory reset and installed it again with Network Magic and set up my wireless key. It is working now however, I cannot get into the web based setup page. Whenever i go to 192.168.1.1 and enter my info, it just says 500 Internal Server Error. I was always able to access this page, now I can't, so I assume it's not working because of the interrupted firmware update. I do alot of mac filtering and I limit the amount of IP addresses my router gives out so if anyone hacks my security key, they still won't be able to connect, so accessing my router setup page is important to me. I have reset (hold down reset button for 30 secs - 1 minute) the router many times and still nothing. I mean, the router still works. My brother and I can still connect with our laptops, I just can't get to the web based setup page.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an E3000 router, 2 computers connected via wires, and a PS3, airport express, laptop, and a few other devices which connect wirelessly. I've been having intermittent difficulties with specific services disappearing within my network. From time to time, some of the services which run across the network stop working; The Airport disappears (cannot contact it via airport utility or see it as an airplay destination), and the Playstation stops being able to contact media server running on wired computer. When this occurrs, all devices are still able to connect to the internet, and I am even able to copy files between a hard wired computer and laptop via CIFS (windows file sharing) protocol. Power cycling the E3000 solves this; the airport reappears, the PS3 can once again see the media server running on the PC, etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing one, possibly two problems with the X3000, firmware release v1.0.03:
1. When enabling guest mode, the internal network is not accessible via WLAN even for clients NOT connected via guest mode but regularly: Even non-guests but regularly connected clients can't access any internal IP but the router itself. netscan shows only the very client's IP and the router's. Only after switching guest mode entirely off, regularly connected clients can access interal IP again. netscan correctly shows the whole network. Obviously a firmware bug. BTW: Clients connected via cable do not experience this problems.
2. I am not sure about this, but after using the firmware built in "Reboot" button, the router reboots correctly. But for some reason, it is instable afterwards. It is operational for a few seconds but then reboots again. It keeps cycling. I could stop it by switching the router off and on again.
I am having some issues with configuring static DNS on my e2000 router. When I configure the opendns addresses on static dns 1 and static dns 2 , all traffic, including traffic that should be internal to my network, gets routed to opendns. I tried to switch to staic setting and then putting in opendns into the dns server addresses but when you hit save it also sets the address and sends it along with DHCP to each pc.

The VPN client cannot connect unless I either (a) bypass the E4200 and connect directly to my cable modem or (b) disable the SPI Firewalls on the router. I have all the VPN passthroughs set to "enable" on the router, but still cannot connect. The VPN client is using IPSEC over TCP on port 10000.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a recurring issue with my e4200v1. My wired and wireless connections work fine, but I can't get to the administration website. I have https only set up, and after I get thru the 'certificate error' screen, I get an error that says web page is unavailable. Firfefox tells me that the connection was lost - error 101.I have tried wired and wireless, multiple computers, multiple browsers. I even turned the firewall off on one computer (or I think I did anyway).The only way I know how to fix it is by completely resetting then setting up the router all over again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUpgraded from WRT610N to E4200. Since upgrading to latest firmware the wan just disappears both 5 and 2.5 Ghz bands. Happened with older firmware but not as often. Using it in briged mode. When this happens I can't even get to the management page with a lan connected pc. Have to do a hard reboot to get it to respond again. This is unacceptable for a router at this price point.

I am having trouble connecting Cisco E4200 to Mac desktops on WAN/LAN. I can connect to the LAN at all locations with my own laptop through the LAN port, but not the WAN anywhere at the location on laptop or Mac. The WAN is letting me connect and enter the password but does not allow me to surf the internet.

I am running a Windows Home Server machine called "mserver" that has an IP address supplied via DHCP.There is also a local webserver running on port 8089 that I use to access media from several devices (Android Phone, Blackberry Playbook & HP Touchpad...i.e. not Microsoft).When I had the BT Homehub3 in use I could access the webserver via http://mserver:8089 and it would be loaded on all devices. With the WDR3600 used in place of the Homehub3 it cannot resolve mserver into a local IP address on a non windows device. I can access it via http://192.168.0.xxx:8089 so the route is there.Does the WDR3600 have any local DNS resolution? I repeat the BT HomeHub3 CAN do this, so why can't the TP-LINK?

Disabling hardware NAT
Turning off UPNP & Port Forwarding
Restoring to factory default
Disabling all ALG's in security
I am connecting the E4200 to a Sonicwall TZ100. I want the TZ100 to assign IP addresses to devices that connect to the LAN via the E4200.
How do I have the E4200 act as a WAP only or not assign IP addresses and push that responsibility to the TZ100?
I'd still want the E4200 to have a SID key for LAN access security.
I have a 6 month old Cisco e-4200 router that is updated to the latest firmware, connected to a Motorola surfboard modem on Sudden-link in Midland, TX.
I previously used this exact same setup on Cox Cable in Wichita, KS with no problems. Upon setting it up down here I cannot get the router to pickup an IP address. I have Power-cycled everything multiple times, did a complete reset and re-installation of the router software and still no luck. The Sudden-link techs have no idea what is wrong. They said that the modems signal is strong and everything should be working.
Actually I did get it to work once for a couple of days, however when redoing the surround sound system I had to unhook the cable line and it quit working and I haven't gotten it to work again since. I have tried unhooking everything. Turning it all off. Waiting for 5+minutes, and then reconnecting in order: First the modem, then an ethernet cable to the computer which will usually work. But as soon as I unplug the cable from the computer and plug it into the router it stops working.
I bought Linksys E4200, at a time that is the TOP of the line Cisco routers for Home use.I noticed a serious usage issue with it, I could not identify which are the wifi devices connected to choose for access restriction or parental controls, as the dialog box state only as "Network device", and software control by Linksys does not have any provision to use MAC ID or any other option "except " looking at the dialog box as "Network device".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just received by replacement e4200 v1. I updated the firmware to 1.0.03 build 14 and am up and running just fine. The specs say e4200 should be 300+450Mbps. I am using a software "inSSider 2.0" to view my wireless setup. I get 144(N) at 2.4GHz and 450(N) at 5.2GHz. Please note these are max bit rates and not connect speed or throughput rate. The "inSSider" software gives me the following:
2.4GHz - 1/2/5.5/6/7/9/11/12/14/18/22/124/28/29/36/43/44/48/54/58/65/72/86/116/130/144

I get this information by hovering on the max bit rate field on the row displaying my SSID. So is it correct to say that my e4200 is not designed to reach 300Mbps at 2.4GHz. There is an earlier discussion thread about connection maxing out 144. Please note I am not talking about connect speed or thru-put speed. Max design bit rates of dual band router labeled e4200.
Just got a e4200. However I also have a cisco av power line adapter which worked fine. However when connecting to the 4200 it doesn't recognize the Internet. Have rebooted, reset switched ports etc. But it still doesn't work. It sees the network but not the Internet. Have tried everything ikon but no luck. Cannot connect my directive to the Internet. If I can't get it to work will have to run a 50 foot cable.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirmware 1.0.00 on my E4200 Hardware v1.0 provided a functioning 6to4 tunnel through Comcast's 6to4 facility. Windows and Linux clients on my local network discovered IPv6 addresses and were able to use them successfully.Unfortunately, after the upgrade to 1.0.03 this functionality was gone. I missed reading the ChangeLog, which said that the automatic tunneling feature was removed in 1.0.01. The now provided IPv6 functionality works much less well. First, automatic configuration (discovery of the 6to4 via IPv4 anycast) no longer works with Comcast's gateway. If I configure the tunnel manually, by specifying a 2002/16 prefix, I regain IPv6 connectivity, but only for Linux clients on my local network.
Windows 7 clients suffer from the problem that because the E4200 hands out ULA addresses, they end up preferring those ULA addresses when making global IPv6 connections in the IP 'source' field, which of course does not work. It's like putting your company mailbox code as the return address on a letter you send via US Mail. Other home routers, such as the AVM Fritz! (url,...) suffer from the same problem. However, they provide an option to turn off ULA at the router.Is it possible to turn off ULA for the E4200?
I have a E4200 router v.01 and when i updated the latest firmware (due to security exploit) it seems that whenever i acess the router settings (192.168.1.1) it doesn't ask me nor to input the admin and the password anymore, using wifi or wired.. I want the usual proccess whenever i go to 192.168.1.1 it will ask me to input my admin and password to change my router settings..

I know my current WAN address and have setup a specified folder on my E4200 for the FTP partition. A username for myself has been created with login info and I have forwarded the port I have specified on my router's FTP configuration page.
I try to log into the server, but whenever I try to log into it, I keep getting a "incorrect login information" message back at me.
If I cancel out of that then I get an error message saying it can't find the specified folder and to check the address of the server.
I know the login information information is correct and I've tried changing the password to others of varying lengths.
I've also tried changing the port I'm running the FTP off of incase my ISP has blocked that port, nothing works.
I have a 6 year old wrt54g that is working fine but old. I want to upgrade and will go with the 3200 or 4200. I really don't need the extra features on the 4200 since everything I have is hardwired (directly to two laptops and to two switches in other parts of the house for tv and printer). I want wireless for times when we move a laptop but it wouldn't be all the time, and we won't (for now) use the media options. The difference in price between the 3200 and 4200 is less than $25 so costs is NOT a factor in deciding.So should I just purchase the 4200 since price is not a factor or go with 3200; I want the most stable of the two and will never need the extra wireless features in the 4200.

I looked through these threads and tried disabling the 2.4Ghz band and it still remains at 130Mbps. There was no change, also read I can try set up a secondary SSID. The connection is fine when I'm near the router, but when I go to my room I get no connection at all, it connects for a second but then it goes on connection with limited access.

I can ping the routers internal IP, as well as the cable modem and other external IPs. But all port forwarding through the E4200 is failing.Should the default security/firewall setting allow port forwarding? Or do some settings need to change?

I had a power outage and now I have a solid Cisco light on the top of the router but I can not get any port light activity on the router. I don't see how I can reconfigure it if the system can not even access it?
