Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Does Not Detect USB Storage?

Aug 21, 2012

When I connect my WD My Book Essential 3TB (which is listed as officially compatible with the E4200), I get the following screen:

The E4200 does not detect my hard drive, nor is there a bar saying "detecting".

My problem started when I could not create any new folders through finder.  I had to store new files in the root folder.  Every time I entered the admin password, I got a message saying I did not have sufficient permission to perform such a task.  I then went on to create a new user within the admin group and continued getting the same message.  Finally, I formatted the drive directly through my computer and reconnected.  And now my HDD is not detected at all.

I have an iMac running OS X Lion.  The HDD is question has been formatted to Mac OS extended (journaled).

Will the next firmware allow larger drive sizes? I only bought the thing to share via the router my digital content that is stored on an 8TB external device. What is the perpose to the limit in the first place?  Is this a hardware or software limitation of the device?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 1.0.03 Slow Usb Storage Transfer Speed?

Nov 20, 2011

i have a newly formatted (i.e. empty) 2TB WD my book elite which when i connect it to my computers usb port, can transfer a 6gb video file at over 100MB/s according to the win 7 detail box. However, when i connect it to the usb port on the back of the e4200 and try to transfer the same file, it only goes at 8MB/s max ... it appears to be going at usb 1 speed.  i've got the latest firmware on both the e4200 and the my book 1111 and everything seems to be working fine for both, except this transfer rate when connected to the e4200.granted, cisco doesn't specifically list this drive as being tested, but the router does recognize it and shows it as usb 2.0, but yet the transfer speed is just too slow.8MB/s is just not workable...i could just connect the drive directly to the computer and share it that way, but connecting it to the e4200 was one of the reasons i bought the e4200.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Can't Access Laptop 2 Or Network Storage

Jan 29, 2011

I have been having issues with my home network since upgrading my router from a WRT54GS to an E4200.  Prior to this I had no difficulty in accessing my home group or my home network.  I have 2 laptops, both are running Windows 7 Ultimate, one is x64 and one is x32.

Laptop 1 (x-64) can access my home network in all its glory ONLY wirelessly...plug in the Ethernet cable and I can't access laptop 2 or my network storage...Laptop 1 is also unable to join my homegroup even after deleting the old one and creating a new one.

Laptop 2 (x-32) can access my home network in most of its glory ONLY wired...unplug the Ethernet cable and I can't access my network storage and it becomes unavailable to Laptop 1 over the network.  Laptop 2 is also not able to connect to Laptop 1 even though Laptop 1 can (sometimes) access files from Laptop 2's shared folders.

Also Laptop 2 cannot see a home group created by Laptop 1, but can create a homegroup that Laptop 1 can see but CAN'T join.I have run all the trouble shooters that the system throws at me to no avail, they all say that I have an unknown network error that it can't fix.I do have internet access on both laptops regardless of wired or wireless, and I spent over 2 hours with Cisco "senior"  tech support only to be disconnected and realize that they had no clue about this new router..

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 V2 - Cannot Access USB Storage Via Mounting Share

Jan 29, 2013

I just bought an e4200 with firmware version 2.0.36 from Costco.I have set it up manually and have access to the internet for all of my wired and wireless devices.Unfortunately, I cannot access the USB storage via mounting a share, the media server or the FTP server.  I have plugged in a USB storage device that is formatted with FAT32.  The router detects it and allows me to create new shares in the Storage->Disk menu and Storage->Media Server menu - so I know it can read the device and see the folders.  Strangely if I click "Scan All" in the Media Server, it finishes very quickly and never updates the "Last scanning time" field. There was a brief moment when the router showed up in the Network->Computer section of File Explorer, but I can't get it to show here again.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Storage Configuration Shared Folders

Mar 27, 2013

My E4200 storage config (portions of it) does not persist through reboot cycles. We often have to reboot the router because we lose wireless conectivity, and each time we reboot, we lose our mapped drives because the router is no longer sharing the folders and permissions I set up. And in the storage settings, my shared folder setup looks like factory default (sharing only root /) after each reboot. Those settings do not persist. I have to restore my router config from a backup after each reboot, which is a real pain. Especially when the kids reboot the router to get their wireless back, but restore is just too complicated for them, and so they call me when they then can not access their network share folders with homework on them.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 Blocks Mac From Printing To HP C410a

Feb 19, 2012

ATT Uverse modem provides internet for the house.  Uverse modem also includes a wifi router.  The HP C410a printer is connected wirelessly to the Uverse router.  The printer is able to access the internet, and all computers (including the problem Mac) can print wirelessly when wirelessly connected to the Uverse router. The Mac sits at the opposite end of the house, far outside the range of the Uverse router.  To solve this, we have a Netgear Powerline adapter connected to the Uverse router to provide internet over powerlines throughout the house.  At the opposite end of the house, the Linksys E1000 is connected by ethernet to the Netgear Powerline outlet.  This setup works - all computers, including the Mac, can wirelessly connect to the E1000 and there is fast internet access.

Two different PC's can print wirelessly to the HP C410a while connected to the E1000 - it works perfectly.  However, the Mac can't print via the E1000 - I have to carry the Mac over to be in range of the Uverse router and then print.  When you try to print on the Mac, it can't "find" the printer.  However, if I open the HP print utility on the Mac and manually enter the IP address of the printer, a new printer pops up and I can make it print test pages.  But I still can't print anything else from the Mac.

The Mac can print if the E1000 is bypassed with a physical ethernet connection to the Powerline outlet.  So the conflict is definitely between the E1000 and the Mac, because everything else works in every other combination.I think something in the E1000 is preventing the print driver on the Mac from sending data to the printer, because the Mac can "communicate" with the printer via the HP print utility software, but whenever you try to print using the driver it can't connect to the printer.  I disabled the E1000 firewall

Or at least I think it's set up. Nothing shows up on my network page. So how am I to get access to the drive? If it don't show up?I need to know how to gain access to the USB storage drive that is connected to the Linksys router.

This is how I think it is to be set up. Again the instructions are not all that clear how to set up. And where is this widget on the homepage to be located?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N Connection And Network Storage

Mar 11, 2009

On my network I have a wired PC running Vista Ultimate, a wireless g notebook running XP Pro, a wired PABT box for VOIP, an iPhone, a wireless g Mediagate MG350HD media extender connected to the TV in the lounge (about 10 metres away through 3 wooden walls) and I have a usb hard drive connected to the WRT610N router.I have only switched on the 2.4 band on the router - 5.0 band requires the client to have wireless N anyway, so since I have no wireless N devices it's no use right now?To manage my network I use Network Magic.

Problem #1.   My Mediagate MG350HD keeps dropping it's connection to the network. I have tried using DHCP and a static ip for it but it still drops. The only solution I've found is toremove the blanked-out Mediagate from the network map in Network Magic, reboot the router, click 'search for new devices' in Network Magic and MOST times it will redetect and reconnect the Mediagate.

Problem #2. Trying to configure the network storage device (my USB hardrive) is a pain in the arse.In the routers storage tab I cannot make sense of the folder creation. All I want to do is share specific folders and all their contents on the network. Every time I go to assign access rights and click the groups over into the access granted column and hit 'save' it puts them straight back in the access denied column. Does this have something to with permissions on my PC? When I go into Network and Sharing Centre it now displays 'Network Storage', when I click into it 3 networked folders appear, when I try to set permissions on these folders I hit apply and the boxes I've just ticked blank-out again. The folder marked 'Network Hard Drive' (the one I set-up using the storage tab in the router) does not display the subfolders and the actual movies stored on them. When I try to change the persmissions on the using my PC, different folders, eg Movies, TV etc... I get the same blanking out of the tickboxes on 'apply'.Is there a step-by step graphical instruction I can follow other than the PDF that came on the disk with the router.

I wanted to be able to stream to my UPnP devices (ps3, xbox360, etc) without having to keep my power hog of a PC running. I have set up the HD using the Storage tab of the Advanced Router Settings, and created several Shares on the Media Server tab. The good news is that I am able to access the share on my PS3. The bad news is that I can't on my Xbox360s. As the Xbox360s has built in wireless N, I would really like to be able to stream to that system.
