I am sharign my bandwidth with my neighbour and would like to keep a tab on what he is downloading, and then limit the speeds he gets while using my 4Mbps line. He's accessign using a WIFI L:AN card.Can I do this usign WRT160Nv2? Maybe any third-party.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased a WRT160N router, and I'm using it in conjunction with a WMP54G wireless PCI card. I've set the router up to my requirements, and can get a stable wireless connection.. but internet speed seems excessively slow. While I'm able to get up to around 4MB/s transferring files over the network, running speed tests, it consecutively shows my download speed to sit around 400KB/s, whereas I'm able to get a steady 1.1MB/s on another desktop that is wired. Disabling the LAN adapter on that computer, and connecting via wireless, brings down the speed that that computer is able to get to around 400KB/s as well. Hence, I don't think it's my wireless cards, but something to do with the router itself.I'm also experiencing lag spike issues in online games, which I can only attribute to the current wireless setup, because I've previously had no issues with it. All relevant ports are forwarded, so that is not an issue.After doing some Googling on the subject, someone had suggested running SpeedGuide's TCP Optimizer, and changing the RWIN - I ran it, and set it to the 'optimal' settings, and after a reboot the wireless seemed fine - I was getting just a tad under what I should (about 950KB/s).. but after a short while, it just went back to 400KB/s. After further investigation, it seems that Vista automatically changes that RWIN value to optimize network traffic.. but I never had this issue with my old wireless gear, so I can only assume that the way Vista is reacting is based on the way the router is interacting with it.

I've done a speed test with speakeasy.net and get fine through the hard wire desktop (25.16/3.77) but when I do it on my wireless laptop I get 2.03down / 3.66up. The speeds were basically the same right next to router as it was 40' away.

When I go from modem to router and then directly plugged into computer (using ethernet) it degrades to 15 Mbps.
When I swith to wireless and I step about 20 feet from router my speed degrades down to 0.57 Mbps with full signal strength.
My version of firmware is 1.2.11. Here are my settings:MTU = 50Beacon = 50
Fragment Threshold = 2304
RTS = 2304
Radio Band = 20 GHZ channel
Standard Channel = set to 11
Network mode is mixed.
Security is a WPA2 / AES

I got an WRT160N,when I had 5mb connection it was working normal,but since I changed to 10mb,it downloads at 40kbp-100kbp,The connection is very stable,but the speed its very slow.I try to download the firmware but its with .bin extension and I don't know how to open it.

Happens in cycles of disconnect/auto reconnect or will go hours of stable operation. What I have noticed is tht the connection speed seems to vary, from a hig of 54.0 Mbps to as low as 2.0 Nbps. At same time the desktop pc (hard wired to modem) stays connected at 100 Mbps.Using RCA modem, WRT160n v3 router.

I am getting very slow download speeds on my wireless router (Linksys model#WRT160N). I measured it on speedtest.net. with my ASUS laptop, ASUS Transformer Prime tablet, and 2 Ipod touches. All similar speeds.
Download avg: 1.30 Mbps
upload avg: 6.20 Mbps
I measured my desktop speed that is hardwired through the router to the modem.
Download avg: 30.00 Mbps
upload ave: 6.20 Mbps
I have scanned all the wireless connection in my area and found them to occupy channels 1, 6, 11. I tried changing my channels one at a time for all 11 channels. Some did a little better than others but not a lot.Also, if I by a dual channel router, can all wireless devices pick up on the 5GHz spectrim and if some, could this alleviate some interference?Is it possible that my router is going bad and a new single channel 2.4 GHz router will be fine?
Is it possable to limit the download/upload speeds of a wireless computer on this router, the reason is i am at home working on files from my office computer and my son gets home, and starts downloading massive amounts of music an other ****, and i get disconnected to the office computer, and have to start from scratch again. I have a 3mbps Cable connection, always worked fine and fast, but since the start of the month I've been getting, at most, 60kb/s of download speed (I have a wired connection to the router). Speed tests register everything as fine, except for the download speed, which is really unstable and shoots all over the place, going from 1MB/s to 0 in some instances. I thought it was the ISP being bad since we're having a lot of problems with this provider where I work, but got tired of it and decided to do some troubleshooting myself. When I connect directly to the modem, without the router, I get the same fast speeds I used to. I tried rebooting everything, I tried resetting the router to factory defaults, but nothing seemed to change that. DL speed is always below 60KB/s and if something is downloading at that speed, a single page takes a minute to load.

Last week I purchased the E4200 and for simplicity, I configured it with basic settings using Cisco Connect. Today, I went into the web interface. The only thing I did was review settings and get the Routers PIN (it appears that Intel Chipset cards on Windows requires this PIN?) Close the browser (did not save any settings) and now I am completely locked out of the device. Cannot connect does not accept the wireless password. I hard reset the device, ran through the wizard. Everything was working again. Launch the browser and connected to the device closing window and balm?

We run a application through a provider which requires that we view it from the same IP address for access. We have a statis IP assigned by our ISP solely for this purpose. For simplicity, lets us 23.11.23.176 as the statis assigned by our ISP and 23.11.23.175 as the gateway also assigned by our ISP. The application we need to browse requires that we use the 23.11.23.175 address else it is blocked from viewing. When we hard line into the modem, we are able to browse it fine. When I connect the CISCO router and do it wirelessly, it shows our address as 23.11.23.176 what are the required steps in order to set the CISCO router to use the Gateway address as the browsing IP for computers connected to it. We had set it up about a year ago, and i completely forgot how.

Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

I have spent approximately 8 hours troubleshooting the other 2 only to be told they're defective. So, I got a new one. Now, this one keeps cutting in and out. I want as my iPhone constantly switches from 3G to wifi on and over every minute. It really ticks me off! What can I do to fix this? This is a different issue than the original one (very slow) and 2nd (no signal). It's disappointing for a $90 router to do this. I also see the wireless icon on the router flash.
