I have a WRT54G router V6, and I am wondering how many wireless connections it supports? Because, I have one wired connection and whenever I try to connect more than 4 wireless devices a device will get booted.
View 9 RepliesDropped VPN connections.I experienced a similar issue a few years ago with my LinkSys WRT54G router with dropped connections to my corporate network using the Cisco VPN Client. To make a long story short the problem was the result of the following:
1. The default ""Client Lease Time" on LinkSys routers is 0 which means 1 day or 24 hours.
2. By DHCP Protocol definition, DHCP clients must renew the DHCP client IP address lease at the 1/2 life cycle of the lease (12 hours if using the router's default setting). This is deadly for VPN clients as the short period of time when the client IP address is no longer valid, the VPN client considers this a loss of network connection. The LinkSys E-series routers further aggravate the situation by randomly assigning new IP addresses to DHCP clients instead of reassigning the client's previous IP address and tends to favor higher host IP addresses in the defined range.
Suggestions to prevent lost VPN client connections:
1. Change the "Client Lease Time" on the router to 8640 minutes (6 days 00:00:00).
2. Prior to establishing a VPN client connection, use the Windows Command Prompt to issue the "ipconfig /renew"
command to obtain a new IP address from the router that will be good for 3 days (72 hours).
3. Configure your E-series router to use the <DHCP Reservation> option to pre-assign IP addresses to your systems making sure they are outside the range of the dynamically assigned DHCP addresses. Using default settings,these would be in the range of 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 as the router starts at 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149.

I have an E1200 in the basement, which I have connected with a LAN port. DHCP is turned off, and all wired connections are getting an address from the upstairs router, and connecting to the internet successfully.I've configured the wireless with the same SSID on both routers, but the clients that connect to the downstairs wireless are not able to access the internet. They are getting an IP address from the upstairs router, but can't get past the gateway.

A few months ago, I lost connection on my desktop computer and I reconnected... however, it didn't actually connect. When I hovered my cursor over the Wireless Network Connection icon, it just said "Acquiring Network Address" and never connected. I got onto my laptop and did a quick search on the problem. A few wrong moves later, and I couldn't even find my wireless network.
Despite all of my attempts at creating a connection, I still have no internet. I've even tried plugging my computer into my WRT54G router via cable, and still no connection. It's not the router that's the problem, though, as my two other computers and xbox have perfect internet connection.
I use Windows XP, I use a WRT54G router, I have Mediacom high speed internet, and that's about all I know.
Last night, my wireless router suddenly stopped working. I no longer saw my router listed in my available wireless networks, and neither could my girlfriend from her computer. I unplugged the router to see if one of the available networks had disappeared in case my router had somehow been reset, and nothing changed so my computer isnt even seeing my router. Right now, I am wired through the router so I know the router works, but the wireless part doesnt for some reason. I was looking up stuff in the FAQ, and think the firmware is corrupted since the LEDs are all blinking. I was trying to update my firmware following the instructions I found using tftp.exe, however it failed. One problem is that I can't set up a static IP address since I need to access the web-based utility to check my DNS server but I cannot access the web-based utility anymore (maybe cause of the corrupted firmware?). On a related note, there is someone else in my building using a linksys with the default network name of linksys. I had changed my network's name and security-protected it, though that is all likely gone now since I tried to reset the router. My question is what will the network name of my router be if I saw it since "linksys" is already taken. or will there just be two of them?

I am looking for something with the best affordable range, live 3 floors down from the current one and get about 3/4 signal strength so there's not much interference it seems. I watch a lot of online content through Hulu, Netflix, and LMB games and share with 2 other people.I am looking at the E series, probably the E1200, 1500 or 1550 as they seem to meet my needs. Any users have any advice about the ease of install and use of either of these? Or would it be better to get a gateway as we are considering going from DSL to U-verse service, twice the speed for $2/month more

I would powercycle and that would fix the problem for anywhere from a couple of minutes to several hours. I upgraded firmware and now I cannot get a connection at all. I have tried the reset button and powercycling but nothing is working.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working with vpn setups for the first time. I would like to be able to connect to a computer on a home network through a linksys E2500 router. I have found alot of documentation on connecting to an external vpn from a computer on the lan side of the router, but nothing on connecting from the outside in. The router does have a static ip address with my internet provider, so I can contact the router from the outside. But makeing the connection to the computer on the other side of the router is where I am missing something or I dont realize that it is not possible. On the LAN side I am using DHCP to assign the address to the computer I want to connect to. Perhaps I need to make it have a static address also? I realize that when I configure the connection from the outside that I need to direct the connection to the remote computer in some way, unless vpn connections are fully passed through the router and the connection issue I am having is with the "inside" computer.

That old router is a knock-off,no-name router brand called "Gigafast" and the model number is WF19-CAPR. There are also variants to that router name as well.The router that I currently have is a Linksys WRT54G wireless-G router. I'm planning to upgrade the wireless router in favor of Wireless-N in the near future.I want to know how can I use that particular Gigafast router as a switch and I want to link that router up to my WRT54G router. The scenario goes as follows:
Cable internet connection ----> WRT54G router ---> Gigafast router (as a switch)
The IP address for the WRT54G router is 192.168.1.1, while the Gigafast router is 192.168.1.254. I may know by now that I have to disable DHCP on the gigafast router and I have to change an IP address to something that is "not in range" with the WRT54G router, am I right?I want to expand the number of ports, so I can connect with future devices such as a VoIP ATA adapter, a laptop and possibly an entertainment box (i.e. Apple TV or Boxee box)

I recently switched cable providers & they don't provide a wireless routers. I would like to use my WRT54G router, but I don't have the cd. I figured it wasn't a problem because I can just do a manual setup using the ip address 192.168.1.1. I receive the pop up window to enter the user name & password. I follow the instructions & just type in the password field the word admin & l left the user name blank but it doesn't work.

PC is running Windows/XP sp3 with all updates installed. It has no wireless adapter.WRT54G model number sticker shows ver.2. I don't think the firmware has ever been upgraded.This used to work. What has changed? The laptop that used to connect wireless is dead. I now have a 2nd PC that sits on the same table as the old PC. It has no wireless adapter at this point, but eventually either it, or the old computer, will be getting its internet connection wireless-ly, as the computers will be physically in separate rooms. I can't see how these changes would affect the operation of the router.
I have a WRT54G router that's worked for a very long time. I had WEP security set up and it worked fine until recently. About a week ago my three year old son managed to reset the router (I'm still not sure how). When I go onto the web-based setup page I am unable to change the wireless security setting. I select an option from the drop down menu but then the page reloads and nothing has changed.

The Status on the 54g does not show an IP address from the WAN(cable modem)If I connect the cable modem directly to the computer(wired) I can get online no problems. We have multiple devices still using Wireless G, and a few that have Wireless N so im wanting to use the valet just for my N devices and My WRT54 & WAP54 for the G. So do I just cascade the valet off the WRT54? or should I make the Valet the main Router and cascade the G routers? the reason I have the repeater is because the wireless signal is weak in the living room and bedrooms.

I pressed the 'reset' button on the back, configured it for my computer according to the instructions on the website, and everything worked fine for a couple of days. Then I lost connectivity, tried powercycling my modem, but had to reset and reconfigure the router again. View 7 Replies View RelatedSituation: I have one Internet connection and I have need of two networks. One filtered with OpenDNS and the other unfiltered. I have a Speedstream DSL router provided by ISP for connecting to Internet. I have two WRT54G's and would like to utilize them to form two networks. The Speedstream is a router with a gateway address of 192.168.1.254.
From that Speedstream (only one network plug) I would like to go to a 5port switch. From that switch, I would like to configure the two WRT's to be two different networks (one using OpenDNS settings for filtering) with one having a 192.168.1.x address scheme and the other (no Internet filtering) having a 192.168.10.x scheme. Both would have DHCP enabled for their networks and the Speedstream would have DHCP disabled. There is not a need (at this point) to have the networks communicate.
Ive had a WRT54G v5 for awhile now. And just recently I went out of town and had turn off my router. When coming back and turning everything back on for some reason both wired and wireless components both have a connection then it loses the connection for awhile and comes back on. Ive power cycled both the router and modem. Called my provider and they said it was my router after doing some diagnostic tests. I tried to update the firmware and ive tried to restore to factory settings. Still it has a connection then it loses it.. Ive noticed on the modem when its not working that only the SENT light is flashing. (modem has power,received,sent, cable,pc). It is on AUTO DHCP and gets a ip and everything.
