Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GC Cannot Get A Valid Gateway Entry
Feb 2, 2012
I'm trying to change my wireless router from WRT54G which been using for more than 5 years to a WRT54GC which I got from my friend. I clone every entry from WRT54G to the new one, even MAC address. Below is what I captured from the old router WRT54G when it connected through PPPoE
Login Type : PPPoE Login Status : Connected IP Address : 114.91.200.128 Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway : 124.74.12.242 DNS 1 : 180.168.255.118 DNS 2 : 116.228.111.18 DNS 3 : MTU : 1492 from the web admin interface, I can ping and traceroute yahoo.com, so can I browse any website from my PC.
and here is what I captured from the new router WRT54GC when it connected through PPPoE
Connection Type: PPPoEIP Address: 180.158.83.182Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0Default Gateway: DNS1: 180.168.255.118DNS2: 116.228.111.18 from the web admin interface, I can ping and traceroute yahoo.com, but I cannot browse any website from my PC.
I have a WRT54GC Router with 4 Windows 7 (all Home Verions)PCs.3 were running hard wire LAN, one notebook I was using wireless.I logged into the modem to change my security settings.I no sooner tried to save a password change, when the router locked up.I lost all internet connections. Did the normal reset modem, reset router, reboot, etc thing.Bottom line, I took out the router, and have just an 4 port switch connected to the modem. One desktop PC off of the switch still connects. On all other 3 PCS, I get the dreaded "Local Area Connection Doesn't Have a Valid IP Configuration."It's not a switch or cable problem. I connected my notebook via LAN to the same cable as the one PC that still connects, no luck.I've tried the ipconfig/release and renew, no luck. On the notebook, I even did a restore to a point about 3 weeks ago, no luck. Then today reinstalled the O/S.
I borrowed a linksys wireless broadband router from my uncle and tried to connect it to my pc.But it is not connecting..i mean i connected an ethernet cable to my router to pc and waited for the light on the modem to become stable..and tried to go to ip address 192.168.1.1..the page not opening....it shows THE WEBPAGE NOT AVAILABLE ...but it worked perfectly for my unclE...eventhough i disconnected power cable and tried resetting but it is of no use ROUTER MODEL NO.WRT54GC ver 2.0?
I have a WRT54GC v2.0, that was working perfectly till yesterday.I cannot access the router no more, either thru cable nor wireless, all lights are flashing.I thought it would be the power source but i have measured it with my fluke multimeter and there is 3.5v, it is probably working well.
I have just got viasat internet from England to replace the local internet here in Spain. I believe that My router was programmed to the old internet and wont recognize my new modem. I have tried live chat and got guided thru a few things and established an IP conflict, but lost contact before we found a solution.
i have a wrt54gc router. I can connect to the interent without no problems what so ever, however, i try and play a game on line and it tells me it cannot connect to the EA server. My psp is running v3.03. and the router 1.001
We are trying to connect to Internet with the PSP.We are using the Linksys WRT54GC wireless router.Went to192.168.1.1to access the settings, everything has been set to disable security featuresPSP Version 2.6Followed instrutions from a web site including setting the DNS to 67.171.70.72 on the PSPThere is no WEP, WPA or any other security codes.I just disabled Firewall in the Security ModeSPI Firewall Protection: Block Anonymous Internet Requests:It is our own home network of two computers and any one else who has a wireless card can access.had a signal strength of 100% on the PSP.But, still got message..... A connection error has occurred A connection to the access point could not be established, check the security settings for the network and try again.how to connect to the Internet using the Linksys WRT54GC?
I've been using WRT54GC for over 3 months, but about two weeks ago I started to experience some strange behavior. About every day connection slows down to a few kbytes/sec (less than dial-up). Ping to comcast.net (my ISP) shows about 50% pings timeouted, 40% pings 50ms and 10% pings about 1 sec. Rebooting router works, but only for a few hours.I replaced the modem with a different model - it didn't work, so it's not the modem. I removed router and connected directly - no slowdown occurs any more, so it's not the computer. I am running latest firmware.
When I connect router correctly via modem I get message not connected no matter what I do I am convinced I am doing nothing wrong having used linksys router a number of times before about 2 years ago using XP cannot. I am now connected to router now to get on internet to this site
I Have a Linksys WRT54GC router which I use as a switch. Recently I have been able to connect to the wireless connection, but I can't access the router or the internet. Computers that are using it as a switch have no problems, but they are setup with different network details.
I know that wireless is on, I have also tried pressing the reset button and wireless still doesn't work.
I've been using my Linksys WRT54GC for couple years now, and only recently have I started to have significant issues with the device. I'm using a 2012 Macbook Pro, and my internet connection seems to be randomly dropping every now and then. Sometimes it works just fine for couple of hours only dropping once or so, sometimes it starts dropping literally every few seconds. What I usually do is quickly restart my wifi and the connection comes back right away. I also tried not doing that, and the internet connection tends to come back up after a minute or so.
I have read countless topics, also tried many things: changing MTU, the thresholds in router settings, security modes (it seemed to have worked fine after I changed it to WPA, not anymore though. I'm using no password now and it doesn't fix the problem either), changing the channel (my strongest signals around are on channel 1 and 11, thus I left mine on 6), I even reset the router today (held the reset button for 10 seconds~) but it didn't work either. I didn't upgrade the software since I heard stories about the software available on this site being corrupted or something, bricking the router, which is the last thing I'd want (I'm running on 1.00.7 now).
I have the impression (but it's just an impression, it might as well not be the case, and just me trying to find out when it happens, since it's not always that it breaks the connection while doing that) that it breaks the connection on high load, I mean when I'm for example using skype and facebook, and then try to go on reddit at the same time - the reddit webpage won't load, and the connection is lost after few seconds. But it also started dropping every few seconds while I was playing an online game and skyping at the same time today, which isn't a particularly huge problem for a 23Mbps download and 1.5 upload speed internet I suppose, and which it never did before. I have never had such issues with my PC using a Linksys USB adapter. The connection would drop from time to time when, for example, accidentally going on pages with lots of thumbnail pictures, or trying to load 15 tabs of jpgs at the same time, it was never that much of a problem really though, I just thought it's normal.
I have used the WRT54GC (v2.0) router for a few years now, everything worked as smooth as butter, but a few days ago it just stopped detecting the internet connection. Everything works fine with the modem. After resetting the router, I tried to reinstall everything using the setup wizard but at the eleventh step, a pop-up message appears saying that it is "unable to detect the Internet connection" and, like I said previously, the modem works just fine. The username and password for the connection are correct (connection type: PPPoE).
When I run the setup CD the router cannot locate the internet connection. I'm using a Motorola Surfboard modem. My local PC works fine on the internet. My remote wireless PC shows limited or no connectivity. I have switched out the Ethernet cables with no luck
I updated the Firmware...then the WRT54GC can't work now,it's power led green and red always,I can't ping 192.168.1.1 via wired or wireless.wireless led shutdown.my laptop can't find any wireless network.
im using linksys broadband router model no WRT54GC firmware version 1.06....im using it since 2005 still now i didn't face any problem, but since 3days im facing a problem all of a sudden. i.e im unable to connect through Ethernet port ( through lan wire) to my PC, but i can access router through wifi.when i connect through wifi it is saying that there is no internet access. but i can access my router administration.i cross checked with another pc and another connecting cable , but same problem, no use i also tried resetting my router, updated my firmware. no use.
My wireless router is WRT54GC ver2.0. When I plug the power cable, all the LED light blinking including the power LED light. I try to find the firmware in the website, but here only have the version 1.0.
I am currently using a Thomson SpeedTouch ST780WLT router, which is working perfectly.I've got a second router currently not in use, a Linksys WRT54GC, that I want to set up as a simple switch to extend my network by a few ports.I connect the Linksys to my main router using LAN-LAN. Then I set up the linksys to have the IP 10.0.0.139 (my main router's IP is 10.0.0.138) and DNS to 10.0.0.138 etc.I've turned off both DHCP and WLAN on the linksys, to use it as a simple lan switch.
This is the message I get when diagnosing my hardwire connection to the internet. I just got this computer yesterday and it worked find. I allowed it to implement all the windows updates during the afternoon. I don't recall if the hardwired connection stopped working after all the updates occurred. Today, when I started up the computer, there is no hard wire internet connection. The computer has a wireless connection option and fortunately that works. I called tech support and they said they would just send me a refund, thinking it's the network card. But, the tech seemed not to have much knowledge or interest in trying to fix the problem. I uninstalled the adapter in device manager and let it reinstall itself. It says its working properly.
PS Computer is a Gateway SX2803 desktop with Windows Home 7 Premium
I just bought a E4200, is there a way change the default text of the pop up message that is used when the client is requested to put in the password to access the guest SID for the e4200?
Lets get this straight, right off! If I plugged my computer directly to my Comcast Modem, IPv6 works fine on the { url } So I do not think any of this problem is related to my computer
I bought a EA4500 Router so I would be ready for IPv6, and also wanted N as well as the storage USB port. When I got the router, it came I guess with the original release firmware. It looked "Classic", but the box said Smart. I did the firmware upgrade. I could not get a IPv6 from Comcast. IPv4 worked fine.
I then changed to the latest "Classic: firmware, and all started to work. So I decided to try Smart again. Same thing, no IPv6 from Comcast. After being on chat for I think close to 2 hours today and getting no where, I did a reset to start at scratch again. I then got a IPv6 from Comcast. Many moons ago, it was a real hassle to switch devices hooked to a cable modem. At least here you had to power cycle the modem, so I have always cloned my wired Desktop MAC. So when I put it back in, I lost IPv6 from Comcast. Turned off MAC cloning, and I got the IPv6 again. So it looks like there is a bug in the Smart Firmware and MAC cloning since it worked OK with Classic firmware. OK, I could live with no cloning since the issues of yesteryear don't seem to be there in getting a IP from the cable modem.
Then for what ever reason, my computer would not get a valid IPv6 on the LAN from the router. I got some IP, but no Gateway. I tried everything I could think off. And again, plugging the computer directly to the cable modem, IPv6 worked fine. So something is just not right with this router as far as I am concerned.
Also, it seems like navigating through the menus on a local connection (192.168.1.1), I constantly got a message to wait popping up on the screen, for many seconds. If I had no Internet connection it would take forever on some things.
I have spent many hours on this, and am just giving up and going to look at another brand product. I don't need or want the "Smart" functions anyway.
My problem is that when my xbox tries to connect to my linksis router, the xbox says that it can not retrieve a valid IP address. My router Model # is: WRT54GV8
Just bought a WRT400N and set it up using 5ghz and 2.4ghz bands, and using WPA TKIP for both. Problem is that both my laptop and my iphone occassionally lose connectivity and my iPhone says that my WPA key isn't valid.
I have a new Windows 7 laptop which cannot connect to internet through my WRK54G Linksys router. Other laptops can connect through the same router, and the same laptop has connected through other routers. The laptop has it's TCP/IPv6 and TCP/IPv4 internet protocols set to get addresses automaticaly.
ipconfig shows that the IPv6 autoconfiguration address is 169.254.28.183 instead of 192.168.1.XXX. I tried the ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew commands, as recommended by the knowledge base, but got the following error message: No operation can be performed on wireless network connection 2 while it has its media disconnected.
The last few days I had been getting the error that: "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration" whenever I reboot my computer. I have to power cycle the router before I can get back the internet connection. Checked on the web and tried various solutions which did not work. So I tried using various firmwares for the WRT160N V2 like V2.03 Build 7 and Build 9. Still did not work. Finally reverted back to my old and trusted FW2.02 Build 8. And this seemed to improve the situation. However, the error will still appear from time to time though not as frequently.
I am setting up a new E4200 modem, and have not been able to use the wired connection. The Windows 7 diagnositic on all three computers tells me "Local Area Connection, doesn't have a valid IP configuration."Model: E4200v1..I am using a new E4200 router, along with a new SE1500 5-port switch and a new SE2800 8-port switch.I am using a wired network that consists of two desktop computers, a laptop computer, a network printer, three Direct TV recorders, two Roku streaming video players, a BluRay player, and an XBox gaming console. Here is what I have done so far.
1- I can bypass the router to establish a direct wired connection to the cable modem. This works to access the internet. It establishes a new wired connection called Network 2. 2- I can access the internet using the wireless connection to the router. It shows a valid IPv4 address. 3- With all cables in place, all the lights are flashing on the router and on the computers. 4- I had changed cables and swapped cable ends. 5- Using the wireless connection, I can access the router home page (192.168.1.1). It shows valid IP addresses.
The problem is that my old Linksys BEFSR81 stopped working, with the same eror message for the LAN connection, "Local Area Connection, doesn't have a valid IP configuration."How often does the WAN port go bad? On both a five-year old BEFSR81, and a brand new E4200?
I recently swapped out an RV082 with a newer model (still RV082 but black and a different interface). I configured the Gateway to Gateway VPN exactly as it was before but none of the three other RV082's will connect. I have tried deleting the connections several times to no avail. I have aggressive mode disabled and have tried with the firewall on and off. Below are the settings (IP's have been X'd out) and the log.
