View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been using WRT54GC for over 3 months, but about two weeks ago I started to experience some strange behavior. About every day connection slows down to a few kbytes/sec (less than dial-up). Ping to comcast.net (my ISP) shows about 50% pings timeouted, 40% pings 50ms and 10% pings about 1 sec. Rebooting router works, but only for a few hours.I replaced the modem with a different model - it didn't work, so it's not the modem. I removed router and connected directly - no slowdown occurs any more, so it's not the computer. I am running latest firmware.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been using my Linksys WRT54GC for couple years now, and only recently have I started to have significant issues with the device. I'm using a 2012 Macbook Pro, and my internet connection seems to be randomly dropping every now and then. Sometimes it works just fine for couple of hours only dropping once or so, sometimes it starts dropping literally every few seconds. What I usually do is quickly restart my wifi and the connection comes back right away. I also tried not doing that, and the internet connection tends to come back up after a minute or so.
I have read countless topics, also tried many things: changing MTU, the thresholds in router settings, security modes (it seemed to have worked fine after I changed it to WPA, not anymore though. I'm using no password now and it doesn't fix the problem either), changing the channel (my strongest signals around are on channel 1 and 11, thus I left mine on 6), I even reset the router today (held the reset button for 10 seconds~) but it didn't work either. I didn't upgrade the software since I heard stories about the software available on this site being corrupted or something, bricking the router, which is the last thing I'd want (I'm running on 1.00.7 now).
I have the impression (but it's just an impression, it might as well not be the case, and just me trying to find out when it happens, since it's not always that it breaks the connection while doing that) that it breaks the connection on high load, I mean when I'm for example using skype and facebook, and then try to go on reddit at the same time - the reddit webpage won't load, and the connection is lost after few seconds. But it also started dropping every few seconds while I was playing an online game and skyping at the same time today, which isn't a particularly huge problem for a 23Mbps download and 1.5 upload speed internet I suppose, and which it never did before. I have never had such issues with my PC using a Linksys USB adapter. The connection would drop from time to time when, for example, accidentally going on pages with lots of thumbnail pictures, or trying to load 15 tabs of jpgs at the same time, it was never that much of a problem really though, I just thought it's normal.
I'm trying to change my wireless router from WRT54G which been using for more than 5 years to a WRT54GC which I got from my friend. I clone every entry from WRT54G to the new one, even MAC address. Below is what I captured from the old router WRT54G when it connected through PPPoE
Login Type : PPPoE Login Status : Connected IP Address : 114.91.200.128 Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway : 124.74.12.242 DNS 1 : 180.168.255.118 DNS 2 : 116.228.111.18 DNS 3 : MTU : 1492 from the web admin interface, I can ping and traceroute yahoo.com, so can I browse any website from my PC.
and here is what I captured from the new router WRT54GC when it connected through PPPoE
Connection Type: PPPoEIP Address: 180.158.83.182Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0Default Gateway: DNS1: 180.168.255.118DNS2: 116.228.111.18 from the web admin interface, I can ping and traceroute yahoo.com, but I cannot browse any website from my PC.
im triyng to forward a port but when i click save settings it give me a message: "Entry 10: Invalid IP Address".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have used the WRT54GC (v2.0) router for a few years now, everything worked as smooth as butter, but a few days ago it just stopped detecting the internet connection. Everything works fine with the modem. After resetting the router, I tried to reinstall everything using the setup wizard but at the eleventh step, a pop-up message appears saying that it is "unable to detect the Internet connection" and, like I said previously, the modem works just fine. The username and password for the connection are correct (connection type: PPPoE).

Linksys/Cisco Router.
When trying to connect (wireless or wired), I can't get past the authenticating status. Have used this computer with same router for 3 years. If there was ever a problem, I would unplug/replug the router.I am currently connected through my neighbor's unsecured network.
I am currently using a Thomson SpeedTouch ST780WLT router, which is working perfectly.I've got a second router currently not in use, a Linksys WRT54GC, that I want to set up as a simple switch to extend my network by a few ports.I connect the Linksys to my main router using LAN-LAN. Then I set up the linksys to have the IP 10.0.0.139 (my main router's IP is 10.0.0.138) and DNS to 10.0.0.138 etc.I've turned off both DHCP and WLAN on the linksys, to use it as a simple lan switch.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT 160N v2 router. There's 1 computer wired to it, that works fine. Then I have 2 laptops and a pc wireless to it. One laptop is a mac and that seems to be fine, another is a Compaq notebook that has trouble connecting and the pc has the same problem. The signal strength is very good to excellent so thats not the issue. What happens with the pc is, it will connect but at times its only for a few seconds then it disconnects. Sometimes restarting the computer fixes it for a while but it will eventually start having the problem again. It detects the wireless network just fine, and the router's firmware is up to date. I have a feeling that its the settings in the router but im not sure what to change.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI ordered a linksys E1500 for a home office. There are 3 computers that connect wirelessly: a 8-year-old desktop with a Netgear USB adapter, a 1.5 year old laptop and a 3.5 year old netbook, both with internal wireless cards. The desktop and netbook are running Windows XP and the laptop runs WIndows 7.
The desktop (XP) and laptop (Windows 7) are able to connect with no problem. However, the netbook (XP) is having problems connecting. It is able to connect to the router using the WPA2 key, and says it has excellent signal. However, when I start up an internet browser, it gives me a DNS error for any page I try to access. Connecting directly to the router with a cable works fine.
I got on the phone with Linksys support. They told me the problem was that the computer wouldn't use WPA2, but when I switched to WEP, it didn't work at all! I switched back to WPA2 and have the same problem as before: it connects to the network but DNS error messages for any website I try to access (And I've tried both Chrome and Explorer).
To make things more interesting, I set up a guest network on the router, and the netbook connects fine through that so far!
My lap top and other desktop are able to detect the internet but not my main computer with this router.

The problem: My laptop connects to the secure network without prompting for a password, but then does not connect to the internet at all. This same laptop easily connects to the internet via the network as a guest, just as it should. Tried using Easkey, but same result: laptop connects OK to the secure network without a password prompt, but then does not connect to the net.
View 5 Replies View Relatedthere has been issues with this router, and I wonder if any of you have issues connecting to the 5ghz when you wake your pc from sleep longer than an hour. For some reason when I put my computer to sleep at night and wake it up in the morning, my computer will not connect to 5ghz. It will work fine with 2.4, both are set in auto, so I dont see any issues. I did try to put 5ghz to a manual setting; wpa2, 40 mhz, and channel 161. I still get the same results. I am doing something wrong or is the router's 5ghz faulty? Also when is the new firmware coming, I am getting sick of my Harddrive being awake 24/7, its killing the harddrives life span and wasting electricity. I should put this in another post, because they should really change the media server to Wild Media Server or Serviio it would be alot better.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThere's a WRT54G2 v1.5 router in the apartment I just moved in to (belongs to my roommate) which crapped out the other day. My computer and iPod touch both recognize the router's signal and connect to it, but I can't access any Web sites after that (both work fine on other wireless networks). I can, however, access the Web via the cable modem, but when I plug an Ethernet cable into one of the ports on the Linksys router, I have the same problem as when I'm connecting wirelessly. So far, I've tried resetting the router (with the reset button on the back), updating the firmware, changing settings (beacon interval, frag & RTS thresholds....saw that suggested on other forums) & leaving the network unsecured (it's currently WPA2/TKIP & AES, what it was originally). Is it safe to say this router's done for, or is there anything else I can do to resurrect it?

Today I purchased a new TF700T Asus Infinity Tablet. I'm able to get it to connect to the router, see the network, and the router can see the Infinity Tablet (assigns an IP address), but no internet access.
what tools I can use to see where the traffic from the tablet is being blocked. The log on the router doesn't show me anything. I'm assuming there's a port or ports being blocked by the router, but no idea which ones.
Already tried hard resets and a firmware upgrade to no avail. In fact the latest firmware upgrade (4.21.5) hosed the entire network so I reverted back to 4.21.1

It was on this desktop that i installed and uninstalled thew Connection cloud. I know enough to set up the network but when it doesn't work
