Dec 29, 2011About 6 weeks ago my WRT54GL router stopped working properly so I replaced it with another exactly like it. Everything seemed to work perfectly except CRASH Plan. CRASH Plan, a program that allows me to serve as a backup device or host for another family member via the WEB, no longer works.I don’t recall making any changes to the router configuration for CRASH Plan to make it work originally but now wonder if I need to open a port in the router for CRASH Plan to work. How to open the recommended port in the router configuration to get CRASH Plan to work like it used to.

Aug 25, 2011I just got a new WRT54GL wireless router to replace my WRT54GS failing router and I have a question. It's been awhile since I installed the old router and I remember something about not using the CD as it says before plugging in the new router because it messes everything up. All of my computers are running XP Pro SP3 with 2 of them being wired.
I remember something about just plugging the router in and typing in 192.168.1.1 in my browser and then setting everything up that way. Am I correct in doing this or am I forgetting something?
Oh, I am also running Network Magic so would I also have to reinstall it?

Jun 7, 2011setting up my new WRT54GL.this is my first encounter with a wireless router, though I've had 3 previous Linksys (hardwired) routers.I have to say, given that they give virtually no Mac support, it was a breeze….just plugged it in to my cable modem and my laptop and - boom - on the net on my first try!I'm able to access the router via it's web-based system and can now "tweak" with settings, but I'm running in to a lot of "tweakable" settings that I'm not familiar with.
First my setup. I have; (a.) 3 desktop Macs and a Samsung TV hardwired to the four Ethernet ports and (b.) my Mac laptop accessing the router via Airport Extreme wifi. All are happily accessing the web.But I realize that the reason that "(b.)" is accessing the web is that I've changed no default settings in the router and, not only can *I* access the router via wifi, but probably anyone driving down the road or sitting out in front of my house can access the web via my wifi. And I'd like to change that.I'm *guessing* that the router settings i need to change lie in the "Wireless Security" area of the router? And it's here that I'm running in to a lot of "tweakable" settings that I don't understand.But let me give an example of what I would *like* to accomplish.
Let's say that there are 3 different laptops…."A", "B" and "C". All 3 are Macs and running Airport Extreme.Now, "A" is my laptop, sitting here on my desk next to the router. As i leave Airport always turned on, I want "A" to *always* have access to the routers wifi *without* having to enter a username/password, i.e. when i turn "A" on, it's wired.Now "B" might be the laptop of a friend who happens by the house and need access. They would need to find my network on their laptop and then i would need to give them a password to let them get on .And finally, "C" is the guy I don't know out in the street whom I want to *never* have access to my network.So my question then is, can I accomplish this by changing settings in "Wireless Security" on my router and how/what would I change?
Linksys WRT54GL Router - Windows Could Not Find Driver For Network Adapter
Oct 2, 2012Well one day i went onto my gaming PC and started playing, it randomly restarted and did some random windows check while starting. Then when i finally logged on i had no internet connection, my computer didnt sense there being a cable plugged in (Wired connection. The orange light wasn't on) So i figured i should just reinstall windows anyway (Blue screens, ect) After i reinstall i have the same issues. I have moved it to a different room and still the same thing. If i can't fix it then i plan to just buy a USB wireless but i would like to see what others think what i should do before i go making hasty decisions.
The computer say "Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter" I have tried many things i have found on this forum and nothing. So maybe a link to a driver? my Router is a Linksys WRT54GL and has always worked.

Apr 24, 2011I have 2 pc, one with windows xp SP3, and one with Ubuntu 10.04 Until 1 month ago on ubuntu it worked via a patch founded online, from 1 month on ubuntu it doesn't work anymore. Before I used a cable for xp and wireless for Ubuntu. Now I use cable for ubuntu and I try with key usb on windows xp sp3, but doesn't work, I see led, System says that connected, but If I do ping to a site via dos terminal it doesn't work. It doesn't work also if I use internet explorer to see google, but system says connected via linksys.
So I need to solve issue with windows xp, then I hope to solve also for Ubuntu.

I have a dell Inspiron 530, windows XP pro Sp 3 I have broadband with a westell 7500 router. I have a filtered system on all phone jacks for the signal and plugged in to the router with the phone line to the modem to the dell as primary.Peripherals are epson scanner, HP Officejet pro 8000 wireless ( i have it wired for now. thru the modem. My other PC a HP Model Pavilion d4650e with same OS. It has a linxs wireless usb adapter for Internet supply. I think I have everything I need hardware wise to proceed with the wizard.

Jan 20, 2012I just purchased a befsr41. i have wireless internet so there is no modem to plug into. when i try to setup wizard it gets all the way to checking computer staus, then at 99% it says it cannot find router. i have pinged the router following the instructions on this site and the computer found the router, but when i tryed to go to browser to go to site it won't let me on any pages. i have found that while router is plugged in i can't access internet, but the set up disc can't locate the router. why wouldn't the set up wizard find router? and i am using win 7 with xp capable.

When I try to connect to the internet, both show the wired connection as good but neither can connect to the internet. The BDP-S580 also has wireless connectivity, but it can’t connect to the internet wirelessly. I have two desktop computers connected via ethernet and two laptops connected wirelessly to the same router and all have internet connectivity. I have tried the “auto” settings on the TV and Blu-Ray player and also tried entering the network information in manually. I still can’t connect to the internet.

Jun 20, 2012I'm trying to use a WRT54GL with U-Verse. The problem is that the router does not get a connection to the modem. It can't ping the modem, and it doesn't show up on on the list of devices connected to the modem. DHCP assigns an IP address of 127.0.0.1, which is outside the range of the modem [192.168.1.1 ... 192.168.1.253]. The router is also showing a default gateway of 0.0.0.0, and a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0. (And yes, I have released and renewed the lease, rebooted the modem, and reconnected the modem.) The router WAN side is set to DHCP, and the operating mode was changed from gateway to router (the gateway setting doesn't work either, for that matter).

Mar 16, 2011I currently own a LinkSys-WRT54GL 802.11a/b/g wireless router, and my ISP is Comcast Cable providing me with 15 Mbps (that's bits per second, I believe) download speed. I am wondering if there is any benefit with using an 802.11n wireless router to access the Internet? The maximum theoretical speed of the WRT54GL router is 54 Mbps (802.11g), which is faster than the 15 Mbps provided by my ISP.
I know that 802.11n has a max bandwidth of 300 Mbps, and it would work for intra- house transfers, such as streaming video from one computer to another.
But is there any benefit to 802.11n for Internet activity, such as web browsing, gaming, and streaming video from Netflix.

Jun 7, 2011I need to control the rate at which my WUSB600N adapter connects to my access point. By default, it rate adapts through negotiation with the access point based on a set of possible rates. Can I restrict the set of rates my adapter can use (without re-writing the driver ). I've looked at netsh which provides stats about the rate my adapter is actually using but doesn't appear to allow me to set the desired rate. I'm using Windows Vista by the way.

With that user id i used to access the Coova AP router and internet.Now i want restore the WRT54GL firmware on Lynksys router. But with the used id and password which i had configured the router is not at all accessible. So i did 30-30-30 reset on the router 2-3 times. Now i can see openwrt login page with 192.168.1.1 IP address. It is asking for user id and password. I tried all the combinations of user id and password, but no luck. I browsed some link on the internet and some people have recommended that default user id as a "root" and blank password. But with that also the router is not accessible. I cant to do much on the router untill i will log in to router. I have spent lot of time on this. How to restore back the original WRAT54GL firmware on my router. Sep 7, 2011I recently had to unplug my Linksys WRT54GL wireless router when doing some rearranging and now i'm unable to get a internet connection. I've confirmed the modem is actually working by connecting my laptop directly (which worked), but when I connect the Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to my modem the internet connection goes away. The connection is lost when connected via wireless and hardwired to one of the back ports. I've tried resetting the modem, router and computer and read every forum out there trying to find something, but i'm still stuck.

Jul 3, 2012We have received from a customer of us an WRT54GL box configured with a Coova software. This Wifi router was supposed to be a Wifi hotspot, but was not configured by us. This box is able, on startup, to get an IP by DHCP, to touch a remote Radius server, and so on (we "tcpdump" the Internet traffic, and we saw DNS requests, radius requests, ...)...
But, we are unable to connect to this box,by SSH or by HTTP, either by plug-in PC to the Internet RJ45 or the LAN RJ45. It has no IP as 192.168.1.1. Instead, it was configured to have 192.168.1.1 as gateway.
Of course, we have no doc on previous install, but only the admin/root password for SSH.We are afraid to lose the config (coova, ...) if we perform a hard reset.What is the best way for connecting on this box ?

If I can plug many computers, each one get own IP address, but how I can't fix it? Feb 13, 2012I accidentally pressed the front panel button labeled "Cisco Systems" on my WRT54GL wireless router. The button turned to a flashing white which I understand means that it entered SecureEasySetup mode. I then power cycled the router and the front panel button turned back to solid orange. However, now the "WLAN" lamp flashes a lot more often than before even when there are no wireless clients connected. It doesn't seem to be affecting connectivity or performance of my Ethernet connected devices or wireless connected devices. I re-entered my SSID and security key. That didn't curtail the increased flashing of the WLAN lamp. I also tried pressing the front panel button for 5 seconds. This only cleared my wireless settings.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GL Broadcast Keeps Cycling On And Off
Sep 22, 2011I've had a WRT54GL ( for about a week now ) with no real issues. Today my wife mentioned that the net's been flaky ( wireless nto hard wired ). I originally noticed what seemed like minutes for my desktop of laptop to connect to any web pages. Loads were extremely slow. According to the computer I had a 1 mbps connection. I did the standard resetting of the modem and router.babble babble babble. Eventually, I ran a wifi analyzer from my phone to determine an ideal channel. However, while running the frequency scanner I also noticed that my broadcasting would continue to drop off the radar for a quick moment then return. This seemed to be true no matter what channel I set. What's interesting is that the signal would read as extremely strong for 45 sec - 1 minute, then completely drop the signal, then another strong broadcast. Other neighboring signals don't exhibit this behavior....well I would see the weaker signals coming in and off the radar from time to time. I'm guessing it's some type of interference? However if that's the case I can't explain why my signal seems so strong. I'm assuming I'd see a lot of fluctuation in my signal before dropping off ( instead of going from 100 to 0 in the blink of an eye ).

It's working one and after it stop working, looks like the router is not responding anymore. If I got on the web interface of the router, I loging, on the first web page I press save changes, even if I didn't change anything, the UPnP feature work again.
Looks like a timeout occure or something like that. Is there a way to wake up the router without having to go on the web interface? Why it's stop working?

Aug 17, 2012Router is setup as DHCP and only allows 7 IP address leases that expire daily. Lease time is set to 0. I have the latest firmware. Until recently when our family started using Apple iPhones (2 of them), I didn't have this issue.
Now I'm having a problem where my clients table will show leased IP's with no devices attached to them. I have to clear those no-name addresses so that the iPhones and other non-Apple wireless devices in the house can re-establish a connection.
How can I get those IP's to be removed without having to constantly log into the router and clear them?
