I've currently got a WRT54G and have an opportunity to buy a WRT54GS. The problem is that the seller of the WRT54GS has lost the Set-Up Wizard CD & Hard Copy Quick Installation Guide. Obviously I have these items already with my WRT54G. My question is this. Are these items different for the WRT54G or will the stuff I already have for the WRT54G "work" for the WRT54GS.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my router Linksys wrt54g to Linksys x2000. I was able to install the equipment with no problem, my problem is with the Linksys Advisor. When I open the adviser it goes to setup wizard, I get a screen that tells me to disconnect my old router which I have done. The next screen gives a list of routers to select from my router x2000 is not on the list. How can I get passed this screen? So I can use the adviser to set up other computers and printer.

If I disconnect the WRT54G and hard wire to the cable modem I can VPN in without a problem. I have enabled IPSec / PPTP / L2TP on the VPN security tab and have reset the wireless modem.

At this point I do not have, or want, Internet connectivity. I would, however, like to call web pages on the Windows 7 PC from the Windows XP PC. The Windows 7 PC has php files that run C++ files to analyze files supplied by the Windows XP PC and I would like to send the results of the analysis back to the XP PC.The reason for this is that I am setting up a home based web site that allows users to run programs on my Windows 7 PC but I want to keep hackers from accessing files on my Windows 7 PC. So the XP will be connected directly to the Internet and the Windows 7 PC will only be connected to the XP PC.I can successfully ping both ways between the Windows 7 PC and XP PC. So I fire up FireFox (FF) on the XP PC and type the following in the FF URL box.

The same happens when I replace the Windows 7 PC IP address with the Windows 7 PC name.I tried to set up a network between the two PCs with the MS network wizard on the XP box. It made a setup disk with a single file on it. I have a WRT54G wireless router that I haven't used in years because my old cable provider supplied me with a router. I recently switched cable providers & they don't provide a wireless routers. I would like to use my WRT54G router, but I don't have the cd. I figured it wasn't a problem because I can just do a manual setup using the ip address 192.168.1.1. I receive the pop up window to enter the user name & password. I follow the instructions & just type in the password field the word admin & l left the user name blank but it doesn't work.

Just my luck, my hard drive took a giant dump and the restore did not restore 100% and guess which file was among the missing?So I've followed about 15 different "reset" instructions which includes holding the reset button for 10-60 seconds; unplugging the router afterwards for anywhere from immediate to 60 seconds. Obviously, none of those sets of "sage" advice had any influence whatsoever on my router. My "server" is of my own creation:

I understand that you have to set up a static ip address before you can do a port forward which makes sense as you do not want to keep changing the ip address for the forwarding settings every time your network refreshes. But I cant seem to have it set up. And is there a rule that the static ip that you set should not be within the dhcp range?After setting up the static ip and setting up the port forward settings how do I test if the port is being forwarded correctly?

I have connected it between my modem and PC, and I am able to get an internet connection on the PC, but I am unable to connect to the router's configuration page. I have tried resetting the router numerous times (holding the reset button 5 seconds, 10 seconds, even longer) to reset the IP address to the default 192.168.1.1 address, but still cannot access the page. The power LED is on and the WLAN and Internet LEDs are on, and the LED for the port my PC is connected to is on. The hardware version of the router is v3. I tried downloading the latest firmware, but without being anble to communicate with the router at the IP address I cannot update the firmware. How can I go about connectiong to the router's setup page? When using ipconfig, the Default Gateway appears to still point to my ISP's IP address instead of the router's.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have wrt54gl setup with dd-wrt standard version running hotspotsystem. 3 wrt54g version 5 with dd-wrt micro setup as WDS client of wrt54gl. After the intial setup I can log into the main router wrt54gl (192.168.1.1)and all 3 WDS routers (192.168.1.2 ,3 and 4), but after couple of days of testing suddenly i can not login to 2 of the WDS routers,
I mean I can connect to it and it will get me to internet but I can no longer login, it just says the page take too long to load. I know if I do a hard reset and setup WDS again then it will work, but I dont want to keep doing that. Tried to power cycle the router but still wont work. Is it the load on the router made it inaccessible ?
I wanted to know if you can setup reserved wireless IP address on the WRT54G router. With all the kids devices, when I reset the router, getting all the devices online is a challage. Some end up with duplicate IP address causing conflicts. If I could reserve an IP address for a specific device. Let me know what option the router has?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I had DSL, my WRT54G was my DHCP master for my home network. When I got AT&T U-Verse, their "gateway" became the DHCP master and also the wireless access point. But the signal was not strong enough where I wanted to use it, so I hooked up the WRT54G again. I discovered that if I connected the U-Verse gateway to the "Internet" port on the WRT54G Linksys, then my home network was split in two, which I did not want. The WRT54G access point is physically somewhat distant from my wired computer, so I wanted to keep the U-Verse gateway as the DHCP master. (The U-Verse gateway is a router with four "computer" ports but no "Internet" port.)
I followed instructions on the Linksys web site, and using my wi-fi connected computer I re-programmed the WRT54G to be "Disabled" as a DHCP server. Then I powered down and physically connected the U-Verse gateway to a "Computer" port on the WRT54G. This solved my problem: my distant wi-fi computer now has a good signal, and both computers "see" each other.
However, now I seem to have lost access to the WRT54G setup "web page." Is it possible to access the innards of the WRT54G when its DHCP service is disabled? Or would I have to reset the device to factory configuration and start all over if I wanted to make any tweaks?
When I go to the router setup screen via 192.168.1.1 the screen does not load properly in MSIE or Firefox. Text does not load.The graphics load okay, and the dropdown boxes, checkboxes, etc. Since many of the links are from text, and all of the descriptions, it is impossible to navigate properly. I managed only by using Firefox's Page Info, Links tab and cutting & pasting. A couple of screen captures are available [URL] have downloaded the latest firmware, but while I can get to the Administration page, much less click on, the Upgrade Firmware sub-tab.

I can log in (most of the time) after resetting the router, but whenever I try to click on a different tab (like "Wireless", or "Security") it comes up with the page saying "This Page Cannot Be Displayed." I'd like to be able to put a password on it (which I have successfully done before on this router) because I live in a college dorm and would like to keep my internet from being bogged down by other people using it.

I followed the basic instructions that came with the router and towards the end of the process it says detecting network settings with a % bar. The bar fills to 100% and then asks for a password. I am finally duffing my WRT 610N (N=Never consistent in performance) main router and WRT54G that I am using up in my shop as an expander. Now I am going to a E4200 Main Router and E3000 for my secondary router (Truthfully a dual band expander).
Am I going to just simply Flash my 610 to default , disconnect it and pack it away , Setup my new E4200 , Plug in my E3000 into port 1 and go about giving it a separate IP Addy? Or can I expect a **bleep**? Any setup tips?
Wirelessly I am running 2 laptops , a PS3 , Xbox 360 , Epson printer , a picture frame and Samsung Blue Ray and TV, and on occasion 2 android phones. On the Wired side (Ethernet) I have a Sling Box , a Desktop , and the router up in the shop. This is the normal load and never everything all at once (Although it has been done).
I assign private IP for each PC within LAN. And DHCP is in charge of wireless connection since 192.168.0.100 for 10 clients. ,Web setup access is also disable for wireless connection.When a notebook connect to WRT54G via wireless. Private IP is always out of range and it could accesses web setup.What happen to my WRT54G ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed a WAP321. I literally configured a test SSID, implemented WPA Personal security, and could not get an iPad or Blackberry to associate with the network. The error message that appears in the Blackberry is "EAP Authentication Failed". But isn't EAP applicable only to the WPA Enterprise mode? The access point works fine if I have the test SSID without any security, but as soon as I turn on WPA Personal security, nothing can connect. Is there something really obvious I'm missing here?(When I select WPA Personal security, I have tried with just the "WPA2" version and "AES" cipher selected, as well as with check boxes ticked on both WPA/WPA2, and on both TKIP/AES. Neither works.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a Cisco 851W router from a coworker about a year ago and tried setting it up at my home with nothing but headaches. I finally gave up and went with DD-WRT and have yet to look back (my $40 router outperforms this thing on so many levels, but I'm getting off-topic!). I recently re-discovered this beast and pulled it out of storage to see if I could get a test network setup at home to practice on. I checked for any IOS updates and downloaded (and installed) the lastest image (c850-advsecurityk9-mz.124-15.T15.bin). I consoled in and verified the initial 10.10.10.1 IP was configured in the VLAN1 interface and directly connected a PC to one of the switchports and pulled a 10.10.10.2 address. I pull up SDM from my browser (I have used FF, IE, and Chrome, all with the same results. Java version is the latest, 6 Update 26.) and it launches the initial configuration wizard. I go through the steps and get up to the DHCP Configuration (after LAN, before Internet/WAN setup) and try to click Next and nothing happens. It doesn't freeze as I can easily go Back, but can never move forward beyond the DHCP configuration. Pressing Cancel on the wizard just shuts down SDM as a whole and exits.
In my troubleshooting steps, I did notice that as soon as I click Next in the DHCP configuration, nothing will happen in the wizard, but the SDM window in the background will automatically present the "Apply Changes" and "Discard Changes" buttons, which weren't there in the previous steps. Of course, neither of those are clickable due to the wizard being open. I really don't want to configure this thing from scratch using the CLI if I don't have to..is there ANY way I can bypass the SDM Wizard at all? Also, I'm running SDM Express, would downloading ASDM and trying to connect from there make any difference?
Everything was working fine till one day, when clicking on Configuration Button you see setup wizard prompt.It's ASDM ver:6.2 and ASA 8.2. Everything is working fine, but now unable to change any rules.
It there simple cure for that?
