View 2 RepliesMy problem is that when my xbox tries to connect to my linksis router, the xbox says that it can not retrieve a valid IP address. My router Model # is: WRT54GV8
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had a WRT54GL ( for about a week now ) with no real issues. Today my wife mentioned that the net's been flaky ( wireless nto hard wired ). I originally noticed what seemed like minutes for my desktop of laptop to connect to any web pages. Loads were extremely slow. According to the computer I had a 1 mbps connection. I did the standard resetting of the modem and router.babble babble babble. Eventually, I ran a wifi analyzer from my phone to determine an ideal channel. However, while running the frequency scanner I also noticed that my broadcasting would continue to drop off the radar for a quick moment then return. This seemed to be true no matter what channel I set. What's interesting is that the signal would read as extremely strong for 45 sec - 1 minute, then completely drop the signal, then another strong broadcast. Other neighboring signals don't exhibit this behavior....well I would see the weaker signals coming in and off the radar from time to time. I'm guessing it's some type of interference? However if that's the case I can't explain why my signal seems so strong. I'm assuming I'd see a lot of fluctuation in my signal before dropping off ( instead of going from 100 to 0 in the blink of an eye ).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently had trouble connection to my Linksys WRT54G router. However, in this process I had to create a couple of new profiles/networks/SSID or whatever they are called. I now have one functioning network, but my router is still broadcasting the other two networks. How can I get my router to only broadcast the one network, I am currently using? I erased them from Vista, so that my own computer does not automatically log on to the, but that is clearly not enough. Since one of the networks is not secured with a password (dont ask why), my concern is that my neighbours can access it. BTW, I am using Windows Vista on a Toshiba Satelite A200.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just set up a brand new LinksysE4200 router at one end of my home, and a Linksys RE1000 range expander at the other end in order to provide full WiFi coverage to my entire house. Everything is working great except for one important detail.. There is currently no way to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 range expander! I just flashed it with the latest firmware (v1.0.01 build 2, Jul 22, 2011) , but I'm still unable to disable it, even though it is disabled on the E4200 from which it's receiving the signal it's rebroadcasting. I am seriously considering returning the RE1000. Linksys. add the ability to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 in a (not too distant) future firmware upgrade! As far as I'm concerend, this is a MUST HAVE feature in order for this product to even be considered for use in any sensitive network environment.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEA3500, I'm using the Smart Wi-Fi interface through a browser. How do I make my router broadcast the SSID? I think it was when I was setting up using the old interface, before updating the firmware, that I set it to *not* broadcast the network name. Now I feel like I've been all through the menus twice on the Smart Wi-Fi interface, and can't find the on/off toggle.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSome routers are able to forward to broadcast directly by sending a port to 192.168.1.255, other's I've been able to trick by forwarding to 192.168.1.254 and then editing the arp table with 192.168.1.254 <-> ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff. Is there any way I can edit the arp table of the E4200? Is there a way to telnet in or get a console connection?

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhy my SSID still displays even though I have the SSID Broadcast "Disabled" for 5 GHz and 2.4Ghz configurations. The name of my network shows full signal strength and a lock next to the name but I was under the impression if I have disabled the SSID broadcast it shouldn't show up at all and would force a user to manually input the network name when trying to connect to it. I have the router configured to only allow certain MAC addresses wireless access as well. Router is running Firmware Version: 1.0.03.Also, my primary computer my iMac running 10.7.2 boots up or is brought out of sleep mode I constantly need to go up to the top of my screen and re-select my network.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was quite excited about E4200 I got yesterday. Everything works perfect except front LED light start blinking a few hours later. Don't know why it happens in a sudden and non-stop. After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Now the LED light is continuously lit.

I used the e3000 router when we lived in town with broadband internet and it worked fine. I can't get it to keep a hold of a signal. I can connect to the router from the computers but the router drops the signal from the tower. I have an old router that the wireless company was kind enough to lend me that works , but the signal is weak and it could die at any moment... I"m at my wits end.. I have an expensive piece of equipment that wont hold the signal. I have updated the firmware and the Cisco connect software..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a linksys wrt54g wireless router and a few weeks ago my wireless connection started to become inconsistent, it would randomly drop service or be very slow, and now it has become very inconsistent and slow, all the while the wireless signal would be 4-5 bars.On my windows 7 desktop, often times the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark pops up over the signal strength indicator when its at 4-5 bars.I've tried changing to 2 different routers and its the same, and the problem is persistent for all computers in the house.I've connected directly via ethernet to the modem and router and service was fine. There are a few wireless networks in the area, some with quite strong signals, but I downloaded the xirrus wifi inspector and it says I'm not sharing a channel (channel 1) and though I'm ~15ft from the router, the signal is ~65dbm, which seems low and is almost equivalent to neighbor's wireless strength.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using the E2500 with the Wireless N-pci adapter with dual band, both with the latest drivers / firmware, and I am getting extremely low signal quality and connection speed when connecting to the 5 Ghz network. My computer is no more than 15 feet away from the router, and on the same level. I also verified the connection with the 2.4 Ghz band, and it reads as excellent, and with 54 mps. Using 5 Ghz I get one bar of signal quality (very poor) and no more than 13 mps connection speed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy wireless router has been spotty since my cable company installed a new modem for cable internet. I have powercycled several times, downloaded new firmware, rebooted and am still having problems. Lately when I do finally get on the internet with a wireless device, the signal strength is very low. It is low on my iphone, on my Mac laptop and also on my Samsung Bluray player. Lately a window keeps popping up when I am trying to watch netflix that states my band width is too low, even though it has been working fine for 2 months. Is my router outdated?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust got the E4200 and it seemed great at first. Connected at 450mbps at close range (maybe 6ft away) and got 223mbps transfer. It seems that recently my signal is much weaker. I'm around 6-8ft away from the router and I'm getting between 270-360mbps, which to me is poor given the short range.
InSSIDer says the RSSI is -50, while my other wireless N router (dual band) is -35 and is in the exact same location. I'm using the 5ghz radio only, and it is set to N, and I'm using channels 44 and 48. I checked the hidden advanced wireless page and transmit power is already set to high.
My laptop has an Intel 6300 wireless card.I'm using the current firmware 1.0.02. I've noticed that the speed of the router randomly seems to drop off too (just as I type this, the link rate has gone back up to 450mbps... typical). Is the router throttling when it gets hot or something? So I just want to find out if others are experiencing similar rates at the same kind of distance. Seriously, how can you advertise something as 450mbps when you can't even get that link rate at a distance as short as 6ft?
I can't see any thing I can do to increase the link speed (back down to 270mbps now), short of a firmware update to increase the power and use higher channels. I hear the higher channels are much better, so who do I have to write to, to plead for new firmware? This is a great product, but it's totally ruined by stupid internal antennas and a weak transmit power. Maybe if we make a noise about the not so maximum performance, they might address it.
I have an E1000 router in my office with a cat5 cable going to my daughters bedroon thru several doors and around some corners. The WET610N is on 5Ghz N, and is the only device at Ghz, and indeed the only wireless device during testing.
The use for the adaptor is to connect an Xbox 360 as a MCE for Video streaming. It is unusable, with unwatchable lags and intermittent failures. The 'Network Performance Monitor" doesn't read in mb/s, but essentially I get about 1 or 2 'bars', well under the acceptable for Standard def reading.
zInterestingly, when I bring the device within 3 feet of the router, I get great speeds (30 Mb/s down), but the bit rate reading in the status screen reads lower than the below reading.
