Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Disabling SSID Broadcast For Both 2.4 And 5GHz Stops Blinking

Jul 1, 2011

I was quite excited about E4200 I got yesterday. Everything works perfect except front LED light start blinking a few hours later. Don't know why it happens in a sudden and non-stop. After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Now the LED light is continuously lit.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Disabling SSID Broadcast On RE1000?

Oct 25, 2011

I just set up a brand new LinksysE4200 router at one end of my home, and a Linksys RE1000 range expander at the other end in order to provide full WiFi coverage to my entire house.  Everything is working great except for one important detail.. There is currently no way to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 range expander! I just flashed it with the latest firmware (v1.0.01 build 2, Jul 22, 2011) , but I'm still unable to disable it, even though it is disabled on the E4200 from which it's receiving the signal it's rebroadcasting.  I am seriously considering returning the RE1000. Linksys. add the ability to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 in a (not too distant) future firmware upgrade! As far as I'm concerend, this is a MUST HAVE feature in order for this product to even be considered for use in any sensitive network environment.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 - How To Turn Broadcast SSID On / Off

Mar 21, 2013

EA3500, I'm using the Smart Wi-Fi interface through a browser. How do I make my router broadcast the SSID? I think it was when I was setting up using the old interface, before updating the firmware, that I set it to *not* broadcast the network name. Now I feel like I've been all through the menus twice on the Smart Wi-Fi interface, and can't find the on/off toggle.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 SSID Broadcast Disabled But Still Shows Up

Dec 1, 2011

why my SSID still displays even though I have the SSID Broadcast "Disabled" for 5 GHz and 2.4Ghz configurations.  The name of my network shows full signal strength and a lock next to the name but I was under the impression if I have disabled the SSID broadcast it shouldn't show up at all and would force a user to manually input the network name when trying to connect to it.  I have the router configured to only allow certain MAC addresses wireless access as well.  Router is running Firmware Version: 1.0.03.Also, my primary computer my iMac running 10.7.2 boots up or is brought out of sleep mode I constantly need to go up to the top of my screen and re-select my network.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Changes SSID And Password On Its Own

Dec 18, 2011

I just purchased an E4200 and got it up & running.  Everything was fine, until I connected a Wi-Fi DVD player to it.  I followed the DVD player procedure, which was to push the WPS button on the router, and then the appropriate button on the DVD player.  After a few seconds, the player connected, and I successfully accessed YouTube through it.

So far, so good -- except that it turns out that the router, on its own, changed the SSID and password.  When I could not get Wi-Fi access on my iPhone, I checked the Wi-Fi settings, and instead of the original SSID of the E4200 -- let's say ShadeTree -- it was changed to Cisco_WPS_xxxxx (the X's represent numbers).  I started Cisco Connect, and a screen came up showing that the password had been changed from the original, and listed both the original and new passwords.

What is going on?  Why would the E4200 change the SSID and password all by itself, when I connected a Wi-Fi equipped DVD player with WPS?  Is this going to happen when I connect a Wi-Fi equipped TV set, or some other component?  What can I do to keep the E4200 from changing the network name and password all by itself?  Or am I going to have to re-program every other Wi-Fi device (iPad, iPhone, etc.) every time I add a new component?

I am having trouble connecting my wireless devices to the e4200v2. My e4200v2 is connected to my action tec ver.F for fios. It's a LAN to LAN connection where the action tec is primary. I followed the directions changing the Secondary router address to 192.168.1.2 and the action tec stayed at 192.168.1.1. I also reset the action tec prior to any attachments (because I had an old belkin n+ connected). i also disabled DHCP in the secondary router. Both 5 & 2.4 Ghz have different passwords although I did try having them have the same password- no luck. I can't connect for whatever reason. Both network modes are mixed. On the action tec- the wireless is disabled. SSID are different. Can't connect for whatever reason. I am at a loss. I don't know if this is relevant- I use windows vista.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Guest SSID Login Page Fails?

Jan 25, 2011

Config:

Netgear ProSafe Gigabit Router is my DHCP Server -- The entire home net work is on the same subnet (192.168.15.xxx)
Linksys E4200 configured as an access point ONLY -- wired connection -- static IP assigned -- DHCP server turned off
Linksys WRT610N configured as an access point ONLY  -- wired connection -- static IP assigned -- DHCP server turned off

3 -- 5 port gigabit switches
1 -- 8 port gigabit switch

No more than two switches between any two wired devices Both Linksys access points have the same SSID and WPA2 security phrase -- total of 4 radios Nonoverlapping channels are selected on both the 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz radio to minimize interference All computers are running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with all the latest updates Two iPhones and one iPad also access the network All LAN and WAN connectivity is working as designed?

Problem:

guest SSID is turned on

password is established

All devices will connect to the guest SSID and the E4200 is assigning an ip address to the device in the 192.168.33.xxx range which is what it's supposed to do.When I open a web browser, I am not automatically redirected to the Cisco Login Page. If I enter 192.168.33.1 as the URL, the login screen is presented. I enter the password I have created in the guest admin page on the wireless guest tab.  I then see a blank page and a URL of 192.168.33.1/guestnetwork.asp. THIS IS WHERE I GET STUCK. THE ONLY WAY TO EVER SEE THE LOGIN PAGE AGAIN IS TO REBOOT THE E4200, otherwise you just get unable to connect messages when opening web browsers and the wireless status icon in the system tray shows a yellow exclamation mark.

I successfully connect to the guest SSID but I do not get access to the internet. When I type ipconfig, I see that the DNS is set to 192.168.33.1 which does not exist on my network. I assume there's some internal NAT magic that is supposed to happen in the E4200 to bridge me over to my 192.168.15.xxx network but it doesn't seem to be happening. At the beginning of the call I specifically asked them if the E4200 must be the DHCP server in order for the guest SSID feature to work and they said no. 1.5 hours later they had no answers so they told me that it wasn't working because the E4200 was not the DHCP server. The documentation says nothing about a DHCP requirement for guest AP service. Linksys support further could not answer what you would do if you needed more than one AP with guest service enabled. It seems like this is a firmware issue but it may be the guest SSID service requires the E4200 to also act as the DHCP server. Whether this is a bug or if the router/AP is working as designed?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 891W ISR / Can't Get SSID To Broadcast

May 27, 2012

I'm working with some 891W's that have the internal 800-series AP. I have this router set up initially using Cisco Config Express, then, using Cisco Config Professional 2.5 I set up the firewall and other featuress that CCE doesn't do.  Overall this is a very simple router, meant to be a small business Internet gateway device but is currently in my lab.

The intended WLAN setup is very simple.  One SSID, with broadcast enabled, using WPA2-Personal.  Auth: open  Encryption is both TKIP and AES-CCM.

However no matter what I do I cannot get thhis thing to broadcast . In the past I had sometimes run into issues where if I had more than one AP running independently it would cause a channel conflict and one or both would cancel each other's radio, so I disabled all other AP's in my vicinity.

Also I've had issues in the past where f I enabled both TKIP and AES, sometimes clients can't find the AP as a result.  My solution had been to disable one of them leaving just the other - no change here however.

Via the IOS, ssid config shows mbssid guest-mode which I believce is default.

Interestingly, if I do the following:

ap# Config t
ap(config)# dot11 ssid <myssid>
ap(config - ssid)#guest-mode
end

I end up with both "guest-mode" and "mbssid guest-mode" in the sh run for the AP, and voila, my AP broadcasts the SSID.  However clients end up joining without any security at all, no prompts for pre-shared key or anything.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GL Broadcast Keeps Cycling On And Off

Sep 22, 2011

I've had a WRT54GL ( for about a week now ) with no real issues.  Today my wife mentioned that the net's been flaky  ( wireless nto hard wired ).  I originally noticed what seemed like minutes for my desktop of laptop to connect to any web pages.  Loads were extremely slow.  According to the computer I had a 1 mbps connection.  I did the standard resetting of the modem and router.babble babble babble. Eventually, I ran a wifi analyzer from my phone to determine an ideal channel.  However, while running the frequency scanner I also noticed that my broadcasting would continue to drop off the radar for a quick moment then return.  This seemed to be true no matter what channel I set.  What's interesting is that the signal would read as extremely strong for 45 sec - 1 minute, then completely drop the signal, then another strong broadcast. Other neighboring signals don't exhibit this behavior....well I would see the weaker signals coming in and off the radar from time to time. I'm guessing it's some type of interference?  However if that's the case I can't explain why my signal seems so strong.  I'm assuming I'd see a lot of fluctuation in my signal before dropping off ( instead of going from 100 to 0 in the blink of an eye ).

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - How To Broadcast Only One Network

Mar 3, 2010

I recently had trouble connection to my Linksys WRT54G router. However, in this process I had to create a couple of new profiles/networks/SSID or whatever they are called. I now have one functioning network, but my router is still broadcasting the other two networks. How can I get my router to only broadcast the one network, I am currently using? I erased them from Vista, so that my own computer does not automatically log on to the, but that is clearly not enough. Since one of the networks is not secured with a password (dont ask why), my concern is that my neighbours can access it. BTW, I am using Windows Vista on a Toshiba Satelite A200.

Cisco Wireless :: E4200 - SSID Shows Different Then One Set In Admin

Sep 18, 2012

I have a E4200 router(firm 1.0.14), which was acting strange, so I reset it.(Windows PC's were hacked with Bluetooth RAT) I did a 30-30-30 reset, and flashed v1.0.14 firmware again.

Presently, I'm using Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS, to access Setup(Admin) via computer. After changing to a strong password to access the Admin, I setup everything, as it appeared, [when I used Cisco home network app in Windows, then went in and wrote everything down, in a (paper)notebook],  that I keep locked in the safe.

Next, I set the SSID as JCs Gate, expecting JCs Gate & JCs Gate-Guest to appear wireless, after setting up WPA2 security(for both bands), and turning on guest AP and limiting it to 3 as not many use it. After saving and rebooting the router, I am still seeing Cisco23540 as my SSID, and I prefer not to broadcast my router make, as I've reported the neighborhood kid(to his father), after several hacking attempts, from his MAC addy(which I know because I see it in the logs, and sold them the PC custom built) and want to get Cisco out of the SSID.

I'm a hardware IT tech pro, with a MCSE cert, so I'm not a stranger to router setups, after 15+ years in the biz. Either, I'm missing something or going crazy. BTW for about 1hour both JCs Gate and Cisco 23540 were both broadcasting.
