Everytime I disable SSID Broadcasting 2 extra wireless connections appear available connections list. (See wirelessconnections.jpg) One is blank and one is labeled Other Network. They disappear when I enable SSID Broadcasting. I am not sure why this is happening.
View 5 RepliesI just set up a brand new LinksysE4200 router at one end of my home, and a Linksys RE1000 range expander at the other end in order to provide full WiFi coverage to my entire house. Everything is working great except for one important detail.. There is currently no way to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 range expander! I just flashed it with the latest firmware (v1.0.01 build 2, Jul 22, 2011) , but I'm still unable to disable it, even though it is disabled on the E4200 from which it's receiving the signal it's rebroadcasting. I am seriously considering returning the RE1000. Linksys. add the ability to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 in a (not too distant) future firmware upgrade! As far as I'm concerend, this is a MUST HAVE feature in order for this product to even be considered for use in any sensitive network environment.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was quite excited about E4200 I got yesterday. Everything works perfect except front LED light start blinking a few hours later. Don't know why it happens in a sudden and non-stop. After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Now the LED light is continuously lit.

Is it possible to disable broadcasting that the WDR4300 is made by TP-Link? I want to continue to broadcast the SSID but not the manufacturer. I have looked in the various menu pages and cannot figure out how to have this happen.
Is it possible to assign a single ssid to multiple interface groups by assigning the ssid to multiple AP groups?
I have buildings geographically dispersed that are configured with multiple vlans in interface groups so that I can maintain an addressing scheme of dhcp assigned addresses per building. Each building is also further grouped as AP groups. I'd like to know if by assigning the same wlan ssid to each of the AP groups, will I maintain addressing integrity for each building? I'm thinking it will work.
Do the buildings have to be outside AP range of each other to avoid problems?

I currently own a Lenovo Thinkpad x201 Tablet Laptop.The issue is that I randomly lose internet access after usage for some time. I've determined [but not limited it to] that the computer heating is causing the computer to automatically disable the connections. I've looked at the Drivers and have found that one of the Drivers disables itself and will not re-enable when I try to enable it again. When I try to reboot, it stalls on the Shutting Down screen indefinitely [I must force restart].

I've checked the BIOS, but I haven't found much of anything. After tampering for a while with it, I received a BSOD. After trying to boot it back up, I got the "a disk read error has occurred" screen and had to send it in... at which point they reinstalled the OS, wiped my hard drive, and sent it back.
I have a Motorola SGB900 cable modem/router which up until now has done both functions. However i want to upgrade the router and so have purchased a netgear wnr2200. I have tried connecting to the WAN and LAN connections on the new router and disabling NAT and wireless on the old router in all possible configurations but i dont seem to be able to get it to work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm working with some 891W's that have the internal 800-series AP. I have this router set up initially using Cisco Config Express, then, using Cisco Config Professional 2.5 I set up the firewall and other featuress that CCE doesn't do. Overall this is a very simple router, meant to be a small business Internet gateway device but is currently in my lab.
The intended WLAN setup is very simple. One SSID, with broadcast enabled, using WPA2-Personal. Auth: open Encryption is both TKIP and AES-CCM.
However no matter what I do I cannot get thhis thing to broadcast . In the past I had sometimes run into issues where if I had more than one AP running independently it would cause a channel conflict and one or both would cancel each other's radio, so I disabled all other AP's in my vicinity.
Also I've had issues in the past where f I enabled both TKIP and AES, sometimes clients can't find the AP as a result. My solution had been to disable one of them leaving just the other - no change here however.
Via the IOS, ssid config shows mbssid guest-mode which I believce is default.
Interestingly, if I do the following:
ap# Config t
ap(config)# dot11 ssid <myssid>
ap(config - ssid)#guest-mode
end
I end up with both "guest-mode" and "mbssid guest-mode" in the sh run for the AP, and voila, my AP broadcasts the SSID. However clients end up joining without any security at all, no prompts for pre-shared key or anything.
how i can configure a second ssid for guest access in our environment. this is our network setup prior to this request: Internet----Firewall (not ASA)---ce520---C1131AG and CME router is also connecting to the ce520 switch. we only have two vlans: one for voice and two for data.
Presently, there is no vlan configured on the AP because it on broadcasting ont ssid and wireless users gets IP from a windows DHCP server on the LAN. the configuration on the ce520 switch port for the AP and other switches say access vlan is the DATA vlan which automatically becomes the native vlan for all trunk port connecting the AP and other Stiches to the network.
Now with this new requirement, i have made my research and i have configured the AP to broadcast both the production and the guest Vlans. The two vlans are 20-DATA and 60-Guest. I made the DATA vlan on the AP the native vlan since the poe switch is using the DATA vlan as native on the trunk ports. I configured the firewall to serve as DHCP server for the guest ssid and i have added the ip helper-address on the guest vlan interface on all switches while the windows server remains the dhcp server for the production DATA Vlan. I have confirmed that the AP, switches can ping the default gateway of the guest dhcp server which is another interface on the firewall. I can now see and connect to all broadcasted ssids but the problem is I am not getting IP addresses from both the production dhcp server and guest dhcp server when i connected to the ssid one at a time. My AP config is attached below.
Do i need to redesign the whole network to have a native vlan other nthan the data vlan? Does the access point need to be aware of the voice vlan? Do the native Vlan on the AP need to be in Bridge-group 1 or can i leave it in bridge-group 20?
I checked the, do not broadcast SSID in my linksys, now i cant log into the router it is a linksys WRT54GS

Have deployed 4 Access Points spanning my entire campus as per Customer Requirements. Created 10 SSIDs for Different Networks. Would like to know if there is any possibility of Broadcasting say a particular SSID XYZ on only two or 3 Access Points and keep broadcast disabled on Others.
integrating the authentication on these SSIDs using Active Directory Domain Credentials.

The name of my network shows full signal strength and a lock next to the name but I was under the impression if I have disabled the SSID broadcast it shouldn't show up at all and would force a user to manually input the network name when trying to connect to it. I recently bought SG-300 28P to create the VLAN. My network hs 3 subnet 192.168.1.0, 192.168.2.0 and 192.168.3.0.My main net work is 192.168.1.0. I want to divide it to VLAN to eliminate the boardcast storm; especially from the domain 192.168.3.0
But I want all the devices from 192.168.1.0 to access other subnet.
I have recently purchase Aironet Access Point. I'm pretty new to Cisco systems and what i'm try to do is have the access point broadcast multiple SSIDs lets call them Guest and Admin. My problems is when i config router to have a DHCP address it works perfectly fine but when i assign a static IP it shows all the any connected device as unkown with IP 0.0.0.0. So i'm guessing i will need to setup a dhcp server. Is there a way access point can have its own DHCP server and IP address ( i don't want to use any from my STATIC ip subnet as i dont know alot of empty ones left) like home wifi router where they assign each device an IP like 192.168.0.1. Is this possible?
