Cisco Wireless :: 2500 Enabling Broadcast Forwarding At WLAN Or SSID Level
Apr 26, 2013
We have a cisco 2500 wireless controller with LAPs.Our devices require Broadcasting to be enabled. So I had to enabe broadcast forwarding under the Controller tab.It appears this option is a global seeting. Is there a way to enable Broadcast Forwading for an specific WLAN or SSID?Can we isolate broadcast data to an SSID or a WLAN?

Running vwlc 7.3.101 and encountered a smaller issue. When you enable / disable a SSID, all AP's reset their radio interfaces... causing everyone to drop their connection.

I have a customer whom has six LAP1131AG-K9 but no controller and they are interested in one of the new 2500 series, specifically a AIR-CT2504-5-K9 with a 5 AP add-on license to bring total AP capacity to 10. I can't determine clearly if this controller will work for these older AP's prior to them making the jump to 802.11n via the 3500 or 3600 series, looking to the community to confirm.

I have problems to connect a MAC-Server from the wireless-network (WLC-4402-50-K9, Version 5.1.163). The wired clients doesn't have problems to connect to the MAC-Server. The connection works over broadcasts. The wireless-network don't forward this broadcasts. The broadcast-forwarding feature is activated. It is no problem to the MAC-server from the wireless-clients. The hole network is in the same IP-network (one broadcast-domain).

I just set up a brand new LinksysE4200 router at one end of my home, and a Linksys RE1000 range expander at the other end in order to provide full WiFi coverage to my entire house. Everything is working great except for one important detail.. There is currently no way to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 range expander! I just flashed it with the latest firmware (v1.0.01 build 2, Jul 22, 2011) , but I'm still unable to disable it, even though it is disabled on the E4200 from which it's receiving the signal it's rebroadcasting. I am seriously considering returning the RE1000. Linksys. add the ability to disable SSID broadcast on the RE1000 in a (not too distant) future firmware upgrade! As far as I'm concerend, this is a MUST HAVE feature in order for this product to even be considered for use in any sensitive network environment.

EA3500, I'm using the Smart Wi-Fi interface through a browser. How do I make my router broadcast the SSID? I think it was when I was setting up using the old interface, before updating the firmware, that I set it to *not* broadcast the network name. Now I feel like I've been all through the menus twice on the Smart Wi-Fi interface, and can't find the on/off toggle.

I'm using a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller 5508, 14x Access Points 1041 and 6x Access Points 1031 in combination with a NCS 1.0.
Is it possible to broadcast SSID'S only on defined Access Points, e.g. AP 1-3,7-10,18? If yes, what have I to do?

why my SSID still displays even though I have the SSID Broadcast "Disabled" for 5 GHz and 2.4Ghz configurations. The name of my network shows full signal strength and a lock next to the name but I was under the impression if I have disabled the SSID broadcast it shouldn't show up at all and would force a user to manually input the network name when trying to connect to it. I have the router configured to only allow certain MAC addresses wireless access as well. Router is running Firmware Version: 1.0.03.Also, my primary computer my iMac running 10.7.2 boots up or is brought out of sleep mode I constantly need to go up to the top of my screen and re-select my network.

my question regards to a pair of WLC 4402 with 7.0.98.0 software.Actual, our security policy does not really allow any peer-to-peer communication in a wireless LAN. Therefore we set the 'P2P Blocking Action' to drop, and the 'Broadcast Forwarding' feature to disabled (default). But now there is a special requirement for two mobile endpoints to communicate with each other, because one device controls the other. To test the communication, we first disabled P2P Blocking (without success) and further enabled Broadcast Forwarding to bring the communication up. Now it works, but the configuration disagrees with our policy.
1. Is there an alternative configuration as described possible, so that we do not violate the security policy? To allow only p2p connection between the two devices, ist should also be possible to drop any else by an ACL. But how to fix the problem with the broadcast, because of the needed ARP? My idea was to use a static ARP entry, but as far as i know, one of the both devices is not able for it.
2. Because, I did not find any detailed documentation:
2a. with enabled Broadcast Forwarding, the controller forwards all broadcast for any configured SSID, right?
2b. is the broadcast limited to the source VLAN/SSID?
2c. is the broadcast limited to an AP, to an WLC, or is it broadcasted to every AP on every WLC that has the relevant SSID?
we already have two new 5508 but not in an operational state now, because we plan to implement new 3600 APs.Do these WLCs offer more/another circumstances or possibilities?

I was quite excited about E4200 I got yesterday. Everything works perfect except front LED light start blinking a few hours later. Don't know why it happens in a sudden and non-stop. After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Now the LED light is continuously lit.

I'm working with some 891W's that have the internal 800-series AP. I have this router set up initially using Cisco Config Express, then, using Cisco Config Professional 2.5 I set up the firewall and other featuress that CCE doesn't do. Overall this is a very simple router, meant to be a small business Internet gateway device but is currently in my lab.
The intended WLAN setup is very simple. One SSID, with broadcast enabled, using WPA2-Personal. Auth: open Encryption is both TKIP and AES-CCM.
However no matter what I do I cannot get thhis thing to broadcast . In the past I had sometimes run into issues where if I had more than one AP running independently it would cause a channel conflict and one or both would cancel each other's radio, so I disabled all other AP's in my vicinity.
Also I've had issues in the past where f I enabled both TKIP and AES, sometimes clients can't find the AP as a result. My solution had been to disable one of them leaving just the other - no change here however.
Via the IOS, ssid config shows mbssid guest-mode which I believce is default.
Interestingly, if I do the following:
ap# Config t
ap(config)# dot11 ssid <myssid>
ap(config - ssid)#guest-mode
end
I end up with both "guest-mode" and "mbssid guest-mode" in the sh run for the AP, and voila, my AP broadcasts the SSID. However clients end up joining without any security at all, no prompts for pre-shared key or anything.

I am using Cisco WLC 2504 for provisioning Wireless Connectivity over my Wired Environment. Have deployed 4 Access Points spanning my entire campus as per Customer Requirements. Created 10 SSIDs for Different Networks. Would like to know if there is any possibility of Broadcasting say a particular SSID XYZ on only two or 3 Access Points and keep broadcast disabled on Others.
integrating the authentication on these SSIDs using Active Directory Domain Credentials.

I have few inter-AS and Hub & Spoke MPLS L3VPNs up and running but, all of them uses plain IPv4 on the PE-to-CE connecting interfaces for switching the L3VPN customer traffic. While, this is ok to route traffic between customer sites over a ISP backbone using the VRF and MP-BGP/LDP configurations which does the MPLS forwarding in the ISP backbone, i would like to know, how to enable MPLS forwarding on the PE-CE links as well to make it MPLS right from CE1 - PE1 - P - PE2 - CE2 all the way for the VPN traffic.
This way, even the last mile access to CE devices will be an MPLS link over a Ethernet PHY so that, the traffic originating from CE1 to CE 2 will be carried on a MPLS tagged Ethernet frame instead of IPoEthernet frame.

We have a CISCO WLAN in place with several SSIDs including one on the Voice VLAN. We need to add an additional one using CCKM due to wireless phone roaming issues. Does adding a new SSID to the WLAN cause any outage whatsoever? We are in an environment where even a small amount down time is not acceptable.
We are using two 5500 controllers with hundreds of LAP1142N

Situation: On a Customer Site we have a Cisco ASA5510 in routed mode, and we have 2 networks which are both routed fine. The Customer has one device+ on lets say Network1 and a device2 on Network2.
Problem: Device1 now needs to communicate with Device2. To initiate the communication Device1 sends out a broadcast to find other devices. How can we tell the asa to just take that broadcast from that specific device1 and "route" it through Netzwork2. Is there any chance to get this working?

I had to default my wireless router " Netgear WGR14V6" and since then I haven't been able to connect with my wireless card. I can physically connect to it with a cable but I can't access it with the wireless card. When I look at the properties it says that it is working fine but I can't seem to find where to change the "SSID and the security phrase". Usually when it is up and running it has a status button and when you click on it there is a tab that you click on and it shows you the SSID and the rest, but now since it is not connected there isn't anything that I can find to change this.

The first is I have a laptop running XP with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card built in to it. But for some reason when I'm using that wireless connector my computer won't connect to my router and give me a 192.168.0.x address, it gives me a regular IP address. I can surf the net and everything but I can't access files on other computers. But from it it'll allow me to connect to the router admin fine.Whenever I put the mac address in to my DHCP setting on my router it comes up * RESERVED INACTIVE * and never gives my laptop a local ip address. The other problem is on my 192.168.0.2 computer I've tried to set up port forwarding but it won't open the ports. My router is a Motorola SBG6580 provided by my cable company. This particular computer is connected by Ethernet and not Wifi if that makes a difference.

I would like to setup a 2504 to have one Guest WLAN and one Staff WLAN with a controller port for each WLAN connected to different devices.
I would prefer to connect the WLC Guest port to an ASA 5510 and the WLC Staff port to an internal 2960S switch. Will this work? I haven't setup a 2500 series controller previously.
