Most Efficient Way To Add Ports To Router?

Jul 30, 2011

What is the best way to add more ethernet ports to my router? Is it to daisy chain a hub /switch to it? I'm all out and I often work on many computers at a time. Currently I have the cable modem, my computer, printer, one spare for computers I work on, and one to vonage modem. I would like more available for computers that I work on so I can hook up at least one more.

Cisco :: More Efficient Routing Path

Apr 12, 2013

Here is the current logical routing path of the network I've inherited:ISP_ASA_1800 --- P2P link_ LAN, However, the equipment is setup up in this inefficient physical topology: Internet_ASA_LAN switch --- 1800 --- P2P link_LAN, The 1800 is the default gateway for all LAN hosts. This means that all traffic not destined for the LAN goes first to the 1800 which has routes for the Internet and for the P2P. If traffic is destined for the P2P, this is no problem. If traffic is destined for the internet, then in my opinion this is an inefficient routing path because the traffic ends up doing this:LAN host > switch > 1800 > back to the same switch > ASA > Internet, So I am thinking of setting up the physical topology to match the logical topology like this:Internet, ASA_1800 ---- P2P link_LAN switch_LAN hosts This means I will connect the 1800 and ASA directly to one another. Am I on the right track? Is this the best way?

Netgear 3700 Efficient Setup Of Home Network

Jan 16, 2011

Looking for the most efficient setup of my home network. I recently bought the netgear 3700 and it has been great. I also have a trendnet green 8 port giga switch. Both of these will be located in my equipment closet.

I also have an ooma voip hub. before i did the router upgrade i had modem>ooma hub>router. Mainly had it that way since the previous router was a wrg614 and i thought the hub probably had better qos routing. I now have the 3700 infront since i think it does that. I need to learn how to setup the qos though. Problem is that having the hub after the router loses one of my 11 ports (i have pleanty now).

Will speed through the switch be as fast as straight from the router? should my netflix devices connect directly to the router or does any of this matter. [code]

Cisco Firewall :: 5520 - Efficient Way To Organize ASA Access Rules

Nov 4, 2012

This is just a general question... is there a good way to organize the ASA's access rule list to increase its efficiency?  Maybe by service or hit count (Top 10).  I am using the Cisco ASDM 6.2 to manage our ASA 5520.

Looking at it looks very unappealing and I'm in the process of adding names and descriptions to all the Network Objects.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 / Use The Ethernet Ports As Pure Physical Layer 3 Ports

Jun 9, 2013

We have an ASA 5505. 5505 comes with two default vlans 1&2 with each of them marked as inside & outside respectively. My query is , if i do not want to use vlans on 5505 and only want to use the Ethernet ports as pure physical layer 3 ports, is it possible?i.e. i want to assign a layer 3 ip address on eth0/0 and eth0/1 and make them as the inside & outside interfaces rather than vlans. is it possible to do away with vlans in 5505 & will it work otherwise?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5555-X - Spare Ports Into Access Ports?

May 14, 2013

Is there a way to associate spare firewall ports with another port that is being used..For example...int gi 0/2 is being used currently for my web dmz. Its ip is 192.168.10.1..Is there a way for me to associate gi 0/3 with the same layer 2 as gi 0/2 ?

In my webdmz I use 2 ACE 4710 proxys in FT mode. I used a layer 2 switch to connect firewall and proxys together.

I would like to eliminate this switch if possible..and connect both 4710's (layer 2) direct to firewall. If I could make gi0/2 - 4 part of the same vlan, then I would be good to go.

Home Network :: Set A Rule In Router 1 To Forward All Ports To Router 2?

Jul 13, 2012

Router 1
Cisco EPC2420
192.168.1.1Connects to ISP via F-connectorConnects to Router 2
Router 2
Asus DSL_N55U
192.168.1.2Connects to 192.168.1.12(Linux Server)

So I bought router 2 but since it doesn't have an F-connector input I need to keep router 1 in the infrastructure so I can connect to the internet. The port forwarding on router 1 is a limited list so I can only add so many rules and would rather have my router 2 do this as it alot better but i cannot seem to get it to work.So I set a rule in router 1 to forward all ports to router 2 and then setup the port forwarding in router 2 to send port 22 to my linux box but it didnt work.

Can Wireless Router Be Plugged Into One Of Ports On Wired Router?

Apr 22, 2011

Can a wireless router be plugged into one of the ports on a wired router?I use a wired router and won't use wireless router because of security concerns. However, I am putting a PC in another part of my house. This PC will have limited types of usage - and security concerns will not be an issue for the type of use that machine will have.Running coax across the house will be difficult. My thought was to use a wireless setup for this one machine. But that would work only if I can plug a wireless Router it into a port on my wired router.

1) Can I plug a wireless router into a wired router?

2) If the answer is yes, will that compromise security on the wired ports because the wireless router is connected to it?

Router (wired) = Linksys BEFSR41; Router (wireless) would be "G"

What Will Happen If All Ports Are Blocked Except 80 And 443 In Router

Jan 5, 2013

As we are unable to control downloads and P2P use in our network, we are thinking to block all ports except 80 and 443 in our router so that they can only browse and use them only for office use. They should also be able to use messengers like skype, YM, MSN and also download any attachments in email.I wonder if we implement this, will it going to work or will there be any problem in accessing normal websites too? I know to control downloads there are many premium hardware and software firewalls out there but we don't want to invest any thing for now.I also know PTP clients can still use 80 and 443 ports to connect but it will need user to change manually port so it's fine with us.

D-Link DIR-615 :: Cannot Open Ports On Router

Jul 16, 2011

cant open the ports 2300 -2400 (udp, tcp)on router. What I do isthe following.

1. Open ports on router in port forwarding.

2. Add the triggers as well  in  APPLICATION RULES with the ports. Triggers are 47624 and 6073.

3.  Try both Dis and Enable UPNP. Even try the DMZ enabled settings.

4. Disabling firewalls on Laptop and router. Try both ways on DMZ's(enable and disable) settings on router. Check everything.

Still when I check on websites about the ports and they are shown closed (NOT STEALTH). Router uses a firmware 4.0. I have a windows 7 64 bit system. I use wireless.

Note: All the steps are performed in a combinations manner to see if there is any possibility of opening ports.

Home Network :: How Many Ports Can An Average Router Handle

Mar 9, 2011

I have a bandwidth-intensive video conferencing device connected to a router. I have forwarded all the necessary ports to the device (and I have even tried DMZ) but the device is unable to connect to some servers due to "NAT issues". The device uses lots of ports simultaneously to connect and I am wondering maybe possibly the router can not handle the number of open ports. The ISP only blocks port 25 which the device does not use. Could it be that the ISP limits the number of ports that are in use? Or maybe the ISP limits the amount of bandwidth that can pass through certain ports?
