Motorola SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 Ethernet Cable?

Sep 3, 2011

I just got a Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem and the box didn't came with the Ethernet cable inside to connected to my router .Now... I been reading in some places that it came with a (Patch cable) and in the User guide it says ( Ethernet cable) and then I found out that it says ( Interfaces 1 x Modem - F connector,1 x Network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T - RJ-45 ) So ... I found that, that kind of Ethernet cable it's a "crossover cable" So...I'm a bit confused here now .I read that this kind of cable it's a "Cat 5e(nhanced) cable" ; But ......it's not as fast as a Cat 6 cable.

Motorola SB6120 - Port 888 Redirect To Cable Modem?

Sep 18, 2011

I was working with Motorola SB6120 cable modem regarding an odd power cycle issue (it would power cycle randomly for 24 hours). While trying to diag the issue, I was taking a peak in his router config and found a port set to forward as:

Application: Comcast
Port From: 888
Protocol: Both
IP: 192.168.100.1
Port To: 80

I understand that his modem admin page is now available from the internet. He said his friend set this up to "modem", but I don't see any advantage of having this done. At this point what are the other advantages of forwarding such ports?Another key note: When the port forwarding was disabled, suddenly the power cycle issues stopped.

Motorola Surfboard SB6120 Modem / Can't Get PC To Connect To Broadband

Jun 22, 2011

I can't get my PC to connect to my broadband. I am running windows 7 64 bit and use the following:

Motorola Surfboard SB6120 modem;
NetGear WGR614 wireless router

I am able to connect with other devices (iPhone, Roku) to my wireless through the wireless router. My computer recognizes the broadband connection, but it won't connect to it. I get two errors when I try to connect:651: the modem has reported an error, and 638: the remote server is not responding in a timely fashion.I have tried connecting the ethernet cable directly to the modem, but I get the same results. Also, I have tried to cycle down the computer, router, then modem and turn them back on in reverse with no change in results. The connection worked until I clicked "disable connection" one day when I had trouble connecting (high traffic i think). Since then, the"home group" I set up originally with the connection wizard disappeared, and it had not been able to connect since then. When I try to connect I click on a small icon in the lower right that says, "not connected, connection available", then I click on the button to connect to broadband and get the errors described above.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Link Light On Motorola Surfboard SB6120 Blinking?

Oct 19, 2011

So I just noticed on my Cable modem the link light is blinking orange, per Motorola if its blinking orange - Computer is connected via a 10 mbps or 100 mbps Ethernet port.

On the Linksys E4200 status page it says

Internet Port Speed:
Internet          10/100 mbps
Local Port Speed    Port 1 - 1Gbps

Maybe I just noticed this with this router, but I'm pretty sure this didn't start happening until I updated to 1.0.03.

Previously the link light was blue indicating a 1Gbps connection.

SB6120 / Surge Protector For Cable?

Dec 22, 2010

1. Our Motorola SB6120 popped out of existence today; FYI, this was plugged into a brand new APC UPS unit (which does not have coax/cable suppression features).

2. Previously (past days), one interesting thing I have noticed is excessive amounts of distasteful electrostatic shock when working in the closet and touching the metal bearings of the cable & wires. Is the cable not grounded properly, and is it the cause of #1?

Recommend me a surge protector/suppressor strictly for cable (do not need outlets/ethernet/rj45/etc).

Cisco WAN :: 815 / Connect To Internet Small Office Where Docsis (internet Over Tv Cable) Is Used As WAN

Aug 12, 2011

I want to connect to the Internet small office where docsis (internet over tv cable) is used as WAN.For similar tasks but other WANs (adsl, dial-up) I used 800 series. But now I can't find anything in this series to solve my issue. There is 815 but it has no wi-fi.

I can use cable modem that my ISP gave to me: this modem acts as bridge so I can use router with FE-based WAN but it is better to have one device instead of two.

D-Link DIR-601 :: How To Connect WAN With A Motorola SBG901 Cable Modem

Feb 13, 2012

I've been trying to connect my D-Link DIR-601 router with a Motorola SBG901 cable modem.  The modem itself has a built-in WIFI (G) and one ethernet port, but not good enough for my purposes.  I need more wired connections and an (N) WIFI connection, which the D-Link could provide, if I could get it to work.  I just cannot get the two pieces of equipment to talk to each other.  I can set up 2 independent LAN's, but no WAN (internet connection) from either.  D-Link has provided pages of instrutions, but nothing works.

Motorola SB6121 Recurring Loss Of Cable Signal Every Day For Five Months

Aug 18, 2012

My Motorola SB6121 DOCSIS 3 modem is connected to a Medialink n-band router. Sometime in the morning (usually between 7am and 9am, the router loses the ability to see the modem. I can access the router's control panel, and I see 0.0.0.0 for WAN IP, Subnet Mask, and Gateway. Primary and Secondary DNS server are both blank. Connection Mode is Dynamic IP.I lose the ability to access the modem's control panel directly (192.168.100.1), even though the PC I use is hardwired to the router. So, I unplug the modem, unplug the router, wait, plug in the modem, plug in the router, and everything works again.I've had more than twelve service calls. Every Charter tech looks at the line, puts in boosters, takes out boosters, replaces splitters, and seems to only look at signal. I've BEGGED Charter to let me speak to an engineer, because my suspicion is that it's something to do with the DHCP server.

I did, by the way, replace EVERYTHING.I have had 5 different modems...same problem. I have had 5 different routers...same problem, including a modem/router combo.I've tried different brands, too.I've disconnected all wifi devices from the router, and rebuilt my PC's operating system. I've even unplugged the refrigerator, because one Charter tech claimed it was "upstream noise."I've been online only a few times when the system actually goes down. What I notice in the router logs is this: [code] So at 9:34, no ranging response - T3 timeout, followed by Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response;
then the Cable Modem Reboot due to T4 timeout, and the system time goes to 1/1/1970 at midnight. No ToD.

The last piece of information: Charter installed a second modem as a "test." That was originally in the same room. A month ago they did another line from the box directly to the test modem to skip the splitter on the house. That modem shows the same problems, EXCEPT -- not perfectly in sync. I might see the same error, but the time will be a few minutes and seconds off. And sometimes I'll see the errors, but the modem won't go down.Sometimes the first modem goes down, sometimes the second. I'm accustomed to a router "healing" itself when the modem goes down.It might be off for a bit, but then will re-establish. This Medialink doesn't do that. It forces a physical restart every day. There are other outages too, and all I get from Charter is "the signal strength is good."

Motorola VT2442 Router / SB6121 Cable Modem - Connecting Two Networks?

Apr 22, 2012

I have a 192.168.1.xxx network connected to Verizon FIOS via Actiontec MOCA / router. I also have a 192.168.15.xxx network connected to Comcast via Motorola VT2442 router (used for Vonage) and a Motorola SB6121 cable modem.

Each network has it's own gigabit switch connected to each router. The two networks are physically separated but switches and routers are physically side by side.

What is the best configuration to allow devices on 192.168.1.xxx network to communicate with devices on the 192.168.15.xxx network (share printers, NAS, etc), but still have each network served by it's respective ISP, and each device still get it's dhcp, dns, gateway, etc from each respective router?

Motorola SURFboard Extreme Cable Modem Is Connected But No Internet Access

Nov 7, 2012

Today I purchased a Motorola SURFboard extreme Cable Modem DOCSIS 3.0 in order to replace my old modem which is out of date and has been very slow as of late. I connected the coaxial cable, Ethernet cable(to Linksys wireless router), and power expecting it to simply work. All four lights came on green (power, downstream, upstream, connectivity). The downstream light turned blue which indicates a bonded connection. The device light was blinking on the modem. I connected to my wireless router, but no internet access. I then tried connecting my laptop to the modem directly via Ethernet cable, still no access. I think that rules out the router being the problem. I also ruled out my laptop being the problem as the same thing is occurring with my other laptop and desktop. I called my ISP (Cox Cable) and had them re-establish connection with my modem, this did nothing. I thought for sure this meant I had purchased a faulty modem; I hooked up my old modem and the results were the same, the modem connected fully with no problem (all four lights were green) but I have no internet access.

I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Motorola SB6141 Link Speed LED On Cable Modem Never Glows Blue

Feb 26, 2013

when I connect my DIR-655 to the Motorola SB6141 cable modem I notice that the link speed LED on the cable modem never glows blue indicating a gigabit connection, it only glows amber indicating a lower negotiated speed.  I am using a Cat6 cable between the two devices and have also tried a Cat5e cable.

When I try and force the WAN port speed to 1000Mpbs in the router interface the cable modem link speed will not light at all with no connectivity. Only resetting to Auto WAN port speed restores functionality albeit at the lower negotiated speed setting.

I'm running the DIR-655 rev B1 at 2.03NA firmware level.

I did connect the modem directly to my PC that uses an Intel Gigabit ethernet card and still had the lower connection indication (Amber) so it seems that the modem might be faulty.

Sb6120 Newly Built Desktop - Want Wifi

I haven't done anything yet, as i haven't received the modem in the mail yet, but i want to be prepared and knowledgeable when it all arrives. Here are my questions I've heard that running this router/modem setup on the N band at 5Ghz provides the best signal strength. How do i configure this? The main goal is to take advantage of as much of the 50mb/s as i can (i know this number is not practical due to overhead estimations etc).My newly built desktop has one free PCI-E slot (the other is occupied by my EVGA GTX 670) and 1 or 2 PCI slots. What's the best option to give my desktop wifi capabilities (pci card or usb adapter) in order to maximize signal strength? I'm about 10 feet away from the router, a door separates the computer from the router.

Sb6120 Modem - Wired Is Always Going To Be Faster Than Wireless

The rt-n56u is on firmware 1.0.1.7f which is current. My desktop uses the WMP600n and my laptop has the Intel 5100 AGN built into it - both have updated firmwares.

The Ethernet Cable Isn't Recognized?

Sep 20, 2012

Yesterday I was on my computer when all of the sudden my internet stopped working. I am using windows 7 and at the bottom right I see a big "X" over the small computer icon. I already tried a computer reboot, a router+modem reboot, system restore, and I even reset the power to the room of the modem+router from the fuse box in my house. I tried everything.

I'm sure the problem must be from the actual cable or mother board itself. ( I hope it isn't ) I tried blowing out any dust from the ports and making sure that nothing was blocking the connection. I fell asleep last night with the internet not working, and woke up to it working. Every other computer in my house works except for mine. I tried all of the router ports as well. I did not attempt another ethernet cable though because my room is far and I would need to make a very long one.
