Sb6120 Newly Built Desktop - Want Wifi

Aug 4, 2012

I'm setting up Blast! Comcast/Xfinity internet (50mb/s) using an SB6120 modem and a linksys E3000 router. I haven't done anything yet, as i haven't received the modem in the mail yet, but i want to be prepared and knowledgeable when it all arrives. Here are my questions I've heard that running this router/modem setup on the N band at 5Ghz provides the best signal strength. How do i configure this? The main goal is to take advantage of as much of the 50mb/s as i can (i know this number is not practical due to overhead estimations etc).My newly built desktop has one free PCI-E slot (the other is occupied by my EVGA GTX 670) and 1 or 2 PCI slots. What's the best option to give my desktop wifi capabilities (pci card or usb adapter) in order to maximize signal strength? I'm about 10 feet away from the router, a door separates the computer from the router.

The desktop can recognize the modem and it says it's connected to the modem but it says the modem isn't connected to the internet. I dunno what to do I've got the LAN drive installed all the neccesary requirements for the desktop but it just won't connect

D-link Dir-655 :: Arris Docsys3 Modem From Comcast Which Has A Built In Wifi Router

Aug 17, 2012

I have an ARRIS Docsys3 modem from Comcast which has a built in WiFi router. I also have a DIR-655. The Modem is in my office and I have a 100' Ethernet cable running through my attic to my front room where the dir-655 is located.

I use the DIR for WiFi as well I have it connected to my TV and Xbox.I use the ARRIS Modem for WiFi as well I have it connected to another Xbox and a Desktop computer.I want to have everything on 1 network, Dir-655 uses IP address 192.168.0.1-100 and the ARRIS uses ranges 10.0.0.1-100. I want to be able to connect to the dir-655 and have the IP for that connection join up with the 10.0.0... network so that I will be able to transfer files freely throughout the network.

I want everything on one network. Right now when I connect a laptop to the DIR-655, I can not access the printer that is connected to the Desktop on the ARRIS modem. I have to connect to the ARRIS modems WiFi to then use the printer on the desktop.Likewise, I want to use the media extender on the Xbox connected to the DIR-655 with the Desktop connected the the ARRIS modem, but I can not because of the to different networks.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Not Linking Up With SB6120 Modem

Oct 21, 2011

I called up the ISP and had him activate the Sb6120 modem. The Dir-655 will not link up with the Sb6120 unless I drop the WAN port speed down to 10MB. Then it will connect. (the light on the modem will come on). I thought the modem was bad so I had the ISP deactivate that one and we tried another Sb6120 samething.I did the firmware update on the Dir-655 to current but samething.

Firmware Version :1.35NA,  2010/11/12

SB6120 / Surge Protector For Cable?

Dec 22, 2010

1. Our Motorola SB6120 popped out of existence today; FYI, this was plugged into a brand new APC UPS unit (which does not have coax/cable suppression features).

2. Previously (past days), one interesting thing I have noticed is excessive amounts of distasteful electrostatic shock when working in the closet and touching the metal bearings of the cable & wires. Is the cable not grounded properly, and is it the cause of #1?

Recommend me a surge protector/suppressor strictly for cable (do not need outlets/ethernet/rj45/etc).

Motorola SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 Ethernet Cable?

I just got a Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem and the box didn't came with the Ethernet cable inside to connected to my router .Now... I been reading in some places that it came with a (Patch cable) and in the User guide it says ( Ethernet cable) and then I found out that it says ( Interfaces 1 x Modem - F connector,1 x Network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T - RJ-45 ) So ... I found that, that kind of Ethernet cable it's a "crossover cable" So...I'm a bit confused here now .I read that this kind of cable it's a "Cat 5e(nhanced) cable" ; But ......it's not as fast as a Cat 6 cable.

Sb6120 Modem - Wired Is Always Going To Be Faster Than Wireless

Jan 6, 2012

Just got cable and new hardware and been running bandwidth tests. I know wired is always going to be faster than wireless but was wondering if there were things I can do to see where the bottleneck is.

I have cable internet with a sb6120 modem and the asus rt-n56u router. When I go wired, I get 40+mbs down and when I go wireless I'm getting approx 20mbs down. Dont get me wrong, this is more than adequate but was wondering why the huge difference. I'm not anywhere close to the theoretical max.

The rt-n56u is on firmware 1.0.1.7f which is current. My desktop uses the WMP600n and my laptop has the Intel 5100 AGN built into it - both have updated firmwares.

Motorola Surfboard SB6120 Modem / Can't Get PC To Connect To Broadband

Jun 22, 2011

I can't get my PC to connect to my broadband. I am running windows 7 64 bit and use the following:

Motorola Surfboard SB6120 modem;
NetGear WGR614 wireless router

I am able to connect with other devices (iPhone, Roku) to my wireless through the wireless router. My computer recognizes the broadband connection, but it won't connect to it. I get two errors when I try to connect:651: the modem has reported an error, and 638: the remote server is not responding in a timely fashion.I have tried connecting the ethernet cable directly to the modem, but I get the same results. Also, I have tried to cycle down the computer, router, then modem and turn them back on in reverse with no change in results. The connection worked until I clicked "disable connection" one day when I had trouble connecting (high traffic i think). Since then, the"home group" I set up originally with the connection wizard disappeared, and it had not been able to connect since then. When I try to connect I click on a small icon in the lower right that says, "not connected, connection available", then I click on the button to connect to broadband and get the errors described above.

Motorola SB6120 - Port 888 Redirect To Cable Modem?

Sep 18, 2011

I was working with Motorola SB6120 cable modem regarding an odd power cycle issue (it would power cycle randomly for 24 hours). While trying to diag the issue, I was taking a peak in his router config and found a port set to forward as:

Application: Comcast
Port From: 888
Protocol: Both
IP: 192.168.100.1
Port To: 80

I understand that his modem admin page is now available from the internet. He said his friend set this up to "modem", but I don't see any advantage of having this done. At this point what are the other advantages of forwarding such ports?Another key note: When the port forwarding was disabled, suddenly the power cycle issues stopped.

Cisco :: Newly Joined Computer To Request IP Address From MAC?

Mar 13, 2012

RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol) is a protocol by which a physical machine in a local area network can request to learn its IP address from a gateway server's Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) table or cache. A network administrator creates a table in a local area network's gateway router that maps the physical machine (or Media Access Control - MAC address) addresses to corresponding Internet Protocol addresses. When a new machine is set up, its RARP client program requests from the RARP server on the router to be sent its IP address. Assuming that an entry has been set up in the router table, the RARP server will return the IP address to the machine which can store it for future use.Among the passage of words i read, there was this sentence i were not sure, "A network administrator creates a table in a local area network's gateway router that maps the physical machine (or Media Access Control - MAC address) addresses to corresponding Internet Protocol addresses." Does it means each time a host computer joins in the ethernet LAN, the network administrator would manually add in it's MAC address in the router table, so it would allow the newly joined computer to request IP address from it's MAC address?

Newly Build Computer Fails To Connect To The Internet

Jul 31, 2012

I just built a new computer that will not connect to the internet, but only while using my wall port, and only this new computer, and only while connected through the router. Totally bizarre, right?I just built a new computer with a fresh install of Windows 7. I set it up directly connected to the router, where I applied all windows updates. I then moved it to where my old computer is, which uses a wall port to connect to the router in another room, where this new computer then fails to connect to the internet or to the router's setup. The new computer's Ethernet LEDs will light up, and the computer will automatically obtain an IP address, but will not connect to the internet or even the router setup.

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: Newly Reinstalled XP (sp2) Not Seeing WMP54GS?

Apr 4, 2011

I have a WMP54GS Installed in a SONY VAIO with a Pentium 4 2.6 ghz processor, 2 gb of DDR Ram, and Just over 60 GB of Hard Drive space. I've run this setup for over two years at this point, all on an XP operating System, from sp1 all the way up to sp3 with no issues. A week ago I ended up with a trojan on my system, and had to do a full recovery. This time I used an XP Pro copy that came with sp2. Not the same copy of XP that had been running previously.  Needless to say when I had the OS finally installed and running, it didn't recognise my wireless adapter. I figured I needed to run through the same process as I had when I first purchased the adapter, and took the card out, ran the intsallation disc, followed the intructions, powered off, and reinserted the card. When I booted back up, there was simply a gray box in the lower left showing "disabled". I clicked on it, and it showed that there were no networks in range, when there should have been several. The only tab on the screen that I was able to click was "exit". I wasn't able to perform manual setup, and when I clicked the "xp setup" option, nothing happened. I was unable to find the device in the device manager (though it may be in the "other devices" list with a question mark, but I can't tell. Would it be something like "network controller" or "ethernet device"?) It doesn't  appear in my network connections either. The LED on the card itself is dormant. Nothing happening. I figured at this point that it must not be fastened adequatly to the PCI slot. So I opened the case, took the card out, and fastened it back in nice in tight. No more give, and in the same slot it had always been in when operating properly. Still the same issue. I've done this a couple more times now, and with the same results. I just don't get it. I've followed the intrsuctions to the letter, and no results. Do I perhaps need to skip the cd and try to install the latest drivers for the card instead? Will that allow my PC to recognise it? I have another machine in my home, and can download a driver and transfer it by disc or flash drive to the other machine if need be.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Link Light On Motorola Surfboard SB6120 Blinking?

Oct 19, 2011

So I just noticed on my Cable modem the link light is blinking orange, per Motorola if its blinking orange - Computer is connected via a 10 mbps or 100 mbps Ethernet port.

On the Linksys E4200 status page it says

Internet Port Speed:
Internet          10/100 mbps
Local Port Speed    Port 1 - 1Gbps

Maybe I just noticed this with this router, but I'm pretty sure this didn't start happening until I updated to 1.0.03.

Previously the link light was blue indicating a 1Gbps connection.

Desktop Wifi Will Not Enable

Oct 11, 2012

I recently bought a USB Adapter for my desktop. I tested it on my laptop (with the Wi-Fi off), and it works perfectly, but for some reason, my wireless network is disabled on my desktop and right clicking it to enable it will not enable it. Under "change adapter settings", the "wireless network connection" icon is continually grayed out. There isn't a problem with the adapter itself, as it works fine on my laptop. Here are the things I have tried already:

1. Installing the adapter in safe mode
2. Disabling firewall and uninstalling antivrius
3. Checking if the hardware and device is working perfectly

Is there any way to enable the wireless network connection?

Will A Desktop Pc Connect To Internet On Wifi

Dec 14, 2012

I have a laptop and a desktop I want to use while there. I know the laptop will work, but I'm not sure about the desktop. I have a wireless network now but my desktop is hard wired via ethernet to the wireless router. I have DSL service now through my ISP. My question I guess is do I have to have a land line at my new location to connect my desktop to the internet or is the wireless technology built in and the ethernet cable is superfluous? I hooked up everything myself for my home network but just followed directions, so I have no clue what everything does. I just wondered about the desktop being able to connect to the internet. Under Network Adapters in Device Manager I have 3 items: 802.11n Wireless LAN card, Microsoft Virtual Miniport Adapter, and a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.[CODE]
