D-Link DIR-655 :: Not Linking Up With SB6120 Modem

Oct 21, 2011

I called up the ISP and had him activate the Sb6120 modem. The Dir-655 will not link up with the Sb6120 unless I drop the WAN port speed down to 10MB. Then it will connect. (the light on the modem will come on). I thought the modem was bad so I had the ISP deactivate that one and we tried another Sb6120 samething.I did the firmware update on the Dir-655 to current but samething.

Firmware Version :1.35NA,  2010/11/12

Sb6120 Modem - Wired Is Always Going To Be Faster Than Wireless

Jan 6, 2012

Just got cable and new hardware and been running bandwidth tests. I know wired is always going to be faster than wireless but was wondering if there were things I can do to see where the bottleneck is.

I have cable internet with a sb6120 modem and the asus rt-n56u router. When I go wired, I get 40+mbs down and when I go wireless I'm getting approx 20mbs down. Dont get me wrong, this is more than adequate but was wondering why the huge difference. I'm not anywhere close to the theoretical max.

The rt-n56u is on firmware 1.0.1.7f which is current. My desktop uses the WMP600n and my laptop has the Intel 5100 AGN built into it - both have updated firmwares.

Motorola Surfboard SB6120 Modem / Can't Get PC To Connect To Broadband

Jun 22, 2011

I can't get my PC to connect to my broadband. I am running windows 7 64 bit and use the following:

Motorola Surfboard SB6120 modem;
NetGear WGR614 wireless router

I am able to connect with other devices (iPhone, Roku) to my wireless through the wireless router. My computer recognizes the broadband connection, but it won't connect to it. I get two errors when I try to connect:651: the modem has reported an error, and 638: the remote server is not responding in a timely fashion.I have tried connecting the ethernet cable directly to the modem, but I get the same results. Also, I have tried to cycle down the computer, router, then modem and turn them back on in reverse with no change in results. The connection worked until I clicked "disable connection" one day when I had trouble connecting (high traffic i think). Since then, the"home group" I set up originally with the connection wizard disappeared, and it had not been able to connect since then. When I try to connect I click on a small icon in the lower right that says, "not connected, connection available", then I click on the button to connect to broadband and get the errors described above.

Motorola SB6120 - Port 888 Redirect To Cable Modem?

Sep 18, 2011

I was working with Motorola SB6120 cable modem regarding an odd power cycle issue (it would power cycle randomly for 24 hours). While trying to diag the issue, I was taking a peak in his router config and found a port set to forward as:

Application: Comcast
Port From: 888
Protocol: Both
IP: 192.168.100.1
Port To: 80

I understand that his modem admin page is now available from the internet. He said his friend set this up to "modem", but I don't see any advantage of having this done. At this point what are the other advantages of forwarding such ports?Another key note: When the port forwarding was disabled, suddenly the power cycle issues stopped.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Link Light On Motorola Surfboard SB6120 Blinking?

Oct 19, 2011

So I just noticed on my Cable modem the link light is blinking orange, per Motorola if its blinking orange - Computer is connected via a 10 mbps or 100 mbps Ethernet port.

On the Linksys E4200 status page it says

Internet Port Speed:
Internet          10/100 mbps
Local Port Speed    Port 1 - 1Gbps

Maybe I just noticed this with this router, but I'm pretty sure this didn't start happening until I updated to 1.0.03.

Previously the link light was blue indicating a 1Gbps connection.

My boss is been looking to expand his side business of trading online. He asked me to look into finding him the best and fast router possible that would give him the best speeds possible. He is currently using the asus black diamond router and the Motorola SB6120 modem but would like to know if there are better options, spending a few hundred on a router isnt a big deal. He also wants to know if there is anything else he can do with his pc, like network card or modem.

SB6120 / Surge Protector For Cable?

Dec 22, 2010

1. Our Motorola SB6120 popped out of existence today; FYI, this was plugged into a brand new APC UPS unit (which does not have coax/cable suppression features).

2. Previously (past days), one interesting thing I have noticed is excessive amounts of distasteful electrostatic shock when working in the closet and touching the metal bearings of the cable & wires. Is the cable not grounded properly, and is it the cause of #1?

Recommend me a surge protector/suppressor strictly for cable (do not need outlets/ethernet/rj45/etc).

Sb6120 Newly Built Desktop - Want Wifi

Aug 4, 2012

I'm setting up Blast! Comcast/Xfinity internet (50mb/s) using an SB6120 modem and a linksys E3000 router. I haven't done anything yet, as i haven't received the modem in the mail yet, but i want to be prepared and knowledgeable when it all arrives. Here are my questions I've heard that running this router/modem setup on the N band at 5Ghz provides the best signal strength. How do i configure this? The main goal is to take advantage of as much of the 50mb/s as i can (i know this number is not practical due to overhead estimations etc).My newly built desktop has one free PCI-E slot (the other is occupied by my EVGA GTX 670) and 1 or 2 PCI slots. What's the best option to give my desktop wifi capabilities (pci card or usb adapter) in order to maximize signal strength? I'm about 10 feet away from the router, a door separates the computer from the router.

Setting Up A Modem / Router Combo (D-Link DSL2730-B) As A Dedicated Modem?

Feb 28, 2013

i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem. Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.

EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

VPI:
VCI: These 2 already came with presets. Should I just leave them?
Select DSL Link Type (EoA is for PPPoE, IPoE, and Bridge): Choices of EoA PPPoA and IPoA
Encapsulation Mode: Choices of LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING and VC/MUX
Service Category: UBR without PCR, UBR with PCR, CBR, Non Realtime VBR, Realtime VBR

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but pretty sure you'll be able to answer my Q. I have to have my internet router/modem in the kitchen as its the only phone point in my flat currently working, but my partner has to run an ethernet cable down the hall from there to hook up his xbox 360. however, I want to be able to use ethernet for my laptop occasionally to get a better speed then over wireless as the wireless isn't perfect from the room i'm in and wondered what the best way to go about this was. I could also plug in my PS3 if there was a way to get all my devices connecting to the router without too many cables. I've heard of a switch.. what does this do? Or will a simple ethernet connector work for what I wanna do

Will Linking 3 Computers Through Switch On Network Be Faster

In one area, we have a server, and two computers that use that server extensively. Right now all the computers are on wi-fi.I know if I ran the computers through a switch they could share data more quickly. The problem I have is there is no way to get a cat connection to this area.If I got a range extender with switching ports built-in would it still speed this data up? Or would it be irrelevant because it still has to travel via wi-fi to the router and back?

2 DHCP Servers On Same Subnet Or Linking Two Subnets?

Aug 6, 2011

I have two locations both about 800meters apart, one is my home and the other address is a campsite where i have a linked router network (WDS with routers running ddwrt) where campers can all use the internet and also i have several IP cameras. Obviously both address have different gateways and therefore their own DHCP server. Everything was running perfectly until.I linked both of my address up using a long range antenna and now i am having problems.

Sometimes the two DHCP servers are competing with each other (i need both addresses on the same subnet in order to view my IP cams from home) and sometimes the computers log on to the wrong gateway. Its very annoying because the only way i can resolve it is by turning of the "linking routers" for a minute and then the Computers log onto the correct gateway. This happens to clients both side of the bridge. I have many different clients on both side of the bridge so assigning each computer (via windows) its fixed default gateway and DNS is out of the question as some of the clients are Camper's PC's and mine and my wifes laptops swap between both locations.

Now my query is, how can i block both DCHP servers from going over the bridge? OR can i have them on both separate subnets and still view my IP camera and still access all the routers from each subnet (i need this because sometimes i need to reboot the routers from home)

Protocols / Routing :: Port-forwarding - Linking Back To Network URL?

Jun 30, 2012

I have set up port forwarding for my WD Network HDD, which runs a Media Server (Twonky). Now, I have tested the ports and accessed it through the internet and it works fine, until... I click a link to open a folder and suddenly I get a "No such page" error thing. I have however identified this problem, it seems that when I go off the main page it re-routes to the original network address, not my IP forward address. For Example if my IP was 82.9.12.456 and the port was 800 i would go to "82.9.12.456:800" and it would load but once I navigate i go to "192.168.0.*:800/*****" and does not load the page. If i then copy and past my IP into the URL it works, but this is annoying.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Motorola SB6141 Link Speed LED On Cable Modem Never Glows Blue

Feb 26, 2013

when I connect my DIR-655 to the Motorola SB6141 cable modem I notice that the link speed LED on the cable modem never glows blue indicating a gigabit connection, it only glows amber indicating a lower negotiated speed.  I am using a Cat6 cable between the two devices and have also tried a Cat5e cable.

When I try and force the WAN port speed to 1000Mpbs in the router interface the cable modem link speed will not light at all with no connectivity. Only resetting to Auto WAN port speed restores functionality albeit at the lower negotiated speed setting.

I'm running the DIR-655 rev B1 at 2.03NA firmware level.

I did connect the modem directly to my PC that uses an Intel Gigabit ethernet card and still had the lower connection indication (Amber) so it seems that the modem might be faulty.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Crashes ISP's Modem

Oct 1, 2011

I started having an issue with my modem earlier this week where drawing a large amount of bandwidth will cause it to crash. I called up my ISP (Mediacom) yesterday and had someone over to swap the modem out, but the problem is still there. The only solution I was able to find is if there is a direct link to the modem from my computer (ie, not connected to router anymore) then the modem never shuts down. I have no idea what on the router could cause the modem to shut down under heavy loads. And the loads I am describing are anything from streaming HD videos to downloading game through Steam. Normal web browsing is fine though. What I can do on the router (or configure on the modem; it's an RCA DCM425) to keep this from happening?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Change Its IP Towards Modem?

Oct 26, 2011

I've searched high and low across the wide web, but I have found no real answer to this problem;Recently, I bought the DIR-655 because the gods of thunder decided to euthanize my old WAP. The original plan was to mate this up with a Tilgin VOOD-modem (modem and router in one; a heap of s**** in my uneducated eyes) in order to make networking within my appartment somewhat easier.

Got it safely indoors, plugged it in as the manual told me, and got it going (my old WAP was also a D-LINK, so the interface was somewhat familiar). Checked cabled connection, worked fine, and I got the wireless-bit to function as well. But then I, or my Xbox 360 to be right on the money, encountered a little problem. As I understand from a little bit of research, I found out that this was a dreaded phenomenon known as

"Moderate NAT"

Before I got the old WAP indoors, I used the onboard router in the TILGIN to do the switching. I used to have this problem back then also, but solved it by opening some of the ports on the modem. Then it switched to "Open NAT", and worked like a charm. Now however, I have ran into a problem I can't dig myself out of. I have tried DMZ, opening numerous ports all the way to the full monty, but I cant get that NAT to wander into the more acceptable range. And then it became clear that the internet on my laptop was somewhat amputated as well; simple youtube-videos became harder to load (sometimes it actually had to stop for extended streaming!), and this is not acceptable on a 20 mbt DSL-line!

D-Link DIR-825 :: B1 2.06NA Does Not Get DHCP From DSL Modem?

Apr 20, 2012

Signed up for Sonic Fusion, received ZTE 831 modem in bridge mode, DHCP off.

Have tried many variations of D-Link settings with WAN DHCP and it just does not get an IP address from the ISP. Unicast on/off, DNS relay on/off, SPI on/off, etc.

With the modem settings unchanged, can plug cable from PC directly into modem. It gets an ISP DHCP and works fine. DNS and internet access work, can surf google.com.

Have an Airlink AR525W wireless router. When it is set to DHCP WAN, it also "just works" when plugged into the DSL modem. It is using the router MAC, did NOT clone the MAC from my PC. The Airlink LAN IP is 192.168.1.1, same as the D-Link. The copy-paste from the Airlink configuration screen:

Connection Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP
Internet IP Address: 173.228.4.46
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 173.228.4.1
DNS 1: 208.201.224.11
DNS 2: 208.201.224.33
DNS 3: 0.0.0.0
MTU: Auto

The D-Link was working fine with ATT DSL and PPPoE (this is in SF Bay Area, 94022), but extremely frustrating that it does not seem work to with Sonic DHCP. Called Sonic support, and was able to confirm that plugging the PC directly into the modem works fine. So it seems there is a problem with the DIR-825 (or configuration of it).
