Netgear Wireless Router WPN824 V2?
Aug 19, 2011My router stopped working today after I tried updating its firmware. I have tried to hard reset the router but it just won't broadcast a signal. Is there any hardware problems related to this or are there any other ways to reset it?

Netgear WPN824 Mbps Download Speed Is Very Slow?
Sep 11, 2012I've been experiencing some problems with my RangeMax wireless NETGEAR router (model WPN824) in terms of wireless connectivity. When directly plugged into my router (i.e. using ethernet cables), the download and upload speed (in mbps - megabytes per second) appear to be working correctly, where we register average download speeds of 15-19 mbps, and 1.99 to 2.07 mbps for upload speeds, as shown on speedtest.net. However, our wireless devices (i.e. laptops and Nintendo Wii) are not picking up the same download speeds, but the upload speed is fine. The problem is that the download speeds of the wireless devices are comparatively low, where speeds of 2.5 to 5.5 mbps are a commonality.
We've tried resetting the router (pushing that small button at the back of the router, using a pin) and have a new 10-character key password. We've also tried simply unlugging the power cable to the router, with disconnecting lengths of about 10 seconds to over a minute for separate attempts. It is also worth noting that the router occasionally disconnects and re-connects on irregular intervals, and we have many wireless devices attached to the router (though many of these are not in use and are very often disconnected from the internet, so I do not think the router is being overwhelmed).
I am currently paying for 30 mbps downloading speed and 2 mbps with respect to uploading, though the 30 mbps downloading speed will likely only be registered if directly connected to the black box (modem). As such, values of 10 to 18 mbps for downloading speed for a wireless device would be considered "normal". Why would our wireless devices not pick the correct mbps download speed? Is it possible that there is a setting on the NETGEAR SMARTWIZARD page (192.168.1.1) that is preventing this?

Oct 22, 2011I am using a Netgear Rangemax Wpn824 with comcast cable internet. This problem happened also on an older router but less frequent with this one.
I don't know if this is a common problem but I cannot seem to find it on the web and thought I would ask here. The problem seems to only happen after someone restarts their computer.
What happens is 9/10 times on startup the internet will connect just fine but the 10% of the time it will say "Unable to connect to Shaun" (my wireless router) Sometimes if we restart the computer it will fix itself but usually we have to reset the router and it will fix itself and wont happen again for another couple of weeks.
I called comcast about it and their tech support said it was a router issue, that's when I put in my newer one (the rangemax) and its still happening. We even upgraded the comcast modem recently too, and since it fixes itself when I reset the router I don't doubt its the router.
I can't seem to update the firmware on it, not sure if that will work. (It says not enough memory to complete) Should I buy a new router?

Jun 13, 2011My aunt's connection was working fine until the other night. Apparently a storm we had knocked out their power and the next day they could not get on the internet. They were on the phone with tech support from their service provider and "had them reset the modem." This is basically all I could get as they are not very tech oriented.
From what I gathered: The modem and the router are not communicating with each other. The modem is a Motorola ADSL single port Ethernet modem, and the router is a Netgear Rangemax wireless router WPN824 v3 with the modem connected via the uplink port on the router. Whenever the ethernet cable to the PC is plugged directly into the modem, there is a connection. I exhausted my entire networking knowledge trying to figure out what could be causing this.

Aug 29, 2011Currently I have the modem into an apple airport extreme, this provides WiFi to the whole house + has a NAS drive connected to it...I have two x box's on the top floor of the house... One is currently wired to one of the airport extremes LAN ports...Now what I am trying to achieve - the second xbox is an old one so needs to be plugged in by cable too... (and I don't want two cables through the house). I have an old Netgear wpn824v2 router. Now so far I plugged the ethernet cable from airport x into one of the lan ports on the Netgear...Then both xboxs are wired into the netgear... The netgear has basically nothing setup on it - no security etc... ip address is on the same network as DHCP router.Netgear has upnp and dhcp disabled...Now stand alone one xbox at a time, the connection is actually faster than I have ever achieved, the full 50mb - but if i wire up my laptop to the netgear and use the internet at the same time the xbox lags like hell, so obviously not tried both xboxs together yet as it will just cause lag!

1. use a copper dedicated single link using the mgmt ports on the supervisor for the keepalive?

Also this network will have a dedicated mgmt switch for all the devices to be managed. If I go ahead with number one (above), how will I use that port to manage that device?
Ping To Keep Alive To Monitor If Provider Lost His Connection To The Internet
Oct 11, 2011I have a dual wan router with a main cable modem for high speed and a backup adsl modem hooked just in case. The problem is that quite often it seems that my ISP loose his connection to the internet but communication is not lost between my ISP and my modem and router. Because of this, my router doesn´t do the automatic changeover from my WAN 1 to my WAN 2 hooked slower ADSL modem. My router has the ping to keep alive option checked on the WAN 1 setings using my Cable ISP provided IP address.How can I force my router to notice that my cable ISP lost his connection to the internet and do right away the changeover from his WAN 1 to his WAN 2 input?

Dec 19, 2011We have several RV082s here which are intended to connect to a central ASA5510 firewall. The VPNs are configured and do work basically, however in our test environment the RV082s kept crashing after an apparently unpredictable amount of time (sometimes after several days or even weeks). All the RV082 have the newest firmware installed (v4.1.0.02-tm).
When further investigating the issue, I found out that the crashes can be reproduced when enabling the keep-alive option on the RV082. When powering up the RV082, they boot, start up the VPN, and then they crash a few seconds after the tunnel has been established (one or two pings usually get through). When crashing, the RV082 becomes completely unreachable, ie no ping, no webinterface etc.
There is a note in the firmware release notes saying that enabling the keep-alive option would not work the way it should. However it seems that enabling that option lets the router completely crash after its next reboot. This makes the keep-alive option basically worthless, however we need this since the routers will get installed at remote sites with no personnel available there.
Is there any way to enable the keep-alive option without making the routers crash immediately after startup?

Apr 19, 2013I have a pair of Nexus 5548UPs that have some high priority servers running on them. Servers are ESX hosts running Nexus 1000v's. Each host has multple connections in a VPC to both 5548s. We have been having intermittant ping loss and slowness of traffic to the VM's on these hosts. I was poking around trying to figure out what the issue could be and found that the peer-keepalive command was not set to send the heart beat across the mgmt0 interface. I would like to change this to point it accross the mgmt0 interface. Any tips or advice for me on making this change with production servers running on the switches? I do not want to cause any loss to any systems when I make this change. [Code] ..........
