Aug 19, 2011My router stopped working today after I tried updating its firmware. I have tried to hard reset the router but it just won't broadcast a signal. Is there any hardware problems related to this or are there any other ways to reset it?

Netgear WPN824 Mbps Download Speed Is Very Slow?
Sep 11, 2012I've been experiencing some problems with my RangeMax wireless NETGEAR router (model WPN824) in terms of wireless connectivity. When directly plugged into my router (i.e. using ethernet cables), the download and upload speed (in mbps - megabytes per second) appear to be working correctly, where we register average download speeds of 15-19 mbps, and 1.99 to 2.07 mbps for upload speeds, as shown on speedtest.net. However, our wireless devices (i.e. laptops and Nintendo Wii) are not picking up the same download speeds, but the upload speed is fine. The problem is that the download speeds of the wireless devices are comparatively low, where speeds of 2.5 to 5.5 mbps are a commonality.
We've tried resetting the router (pushing that small button at the back of the router, using a pin) and have a new 10-character key password. We've also tried simply unlugging the power cable to the router, with disconnecting lengths of about 10 seconds to over a minute for separate attempts. It is also worth noting that the router occasionally disconnects and re-connects on irregular intervals, and we have many wireless devices attached to the router (though many of these are not in use and are very often disconnected from the internet, so I do not think the router is being overwhelmed).
I am currently paying for 30 mbps downloading speed and 2 mbps with respect to uploading, though the 30 mbps downloading speed will likely only be registered if directly connected to the black box (modem). As such, values of 10 to 18 mbps for downloading speed for a wireless device would be considered "normal". Why would our wireless devices not pick the correct mbps download speed? Is it possible that there is a setting on the NETGEAR SMARTWIZARD page (192.168.1.1) that is preventing this?

Oct 22, 2011I am using a Netgear Rangemax Wpn824 with comcast cable internet. This problem happened also on an older router but less frequent with this one.
I don't know if this is a common problem but I cannot seem to find it on the web and thought I would ask here. The problem seems to only happen after someone restarts their computer.
What happens is 9/10 times on startup the internet will connect just fine but the 10% of the time it will say "Unable to connect to Shaun" (my wireless router) Sometimes if we restart the computer it will fix itself but usually we have to reset the router and it will fix itself and wont happen again for another couple of weeks.
I called comcast about it and their tech support said it was a router issue, that's when I put in my newer one (the rangemax) and its still happening. We even upgraded the comcast modem recently too, and since it fixes itself when I reset the router I don't doubt its the router.
I can't seem to update the firmware on it, not sure if that will work. (It says not enough memory to complete) Should I buy a new router?

Feb 9, 2011Recently several customers have brought in their new Nook Color devices attempting to connect to our Wireless Hotspots and are not able to. We are not using any type of security (WPA/WPA2) as these are open and free hotspots for our customers. I have 40 WAP4410Ns on our network running firmware version 2.0.3.3.
After some testing it appears that it's related to WPS. I was able to connect the Nook Color to our test WAP using WPA/WPA2 and entering the Pre-shared key. However, if I turn off security the Nook Color will no longer connect.
Is there a way to disable WPS on this WAP?

They were on the phone with tech support from their service provider and "had them reset the modem." This is basically all I could get as they are not very tech oriented.
From what I gathered: The modem and the router are not communicating with each other. The modem is a Motorola ADSL single port Ethernet modem, and the router is a Netgear Rangemax wireless router WPN824 v3 with the modem connected via the uplink port on the router. Whenever the ethernet cable to the PC is plugged directly into the modem, there is a connection. I exhausted my entire networking knowledge trying to figure out what could be causing this.
Comcast Netgear WNR1000 Modem Won't Work
May 25, 2011I cannot get my computer to recognize my Netgear WNR1000. I have called Netgear to explain the issue and was on the phone with them for 45 minutes.They did get the laptop to work but my desktop still does not. They told me it was a browser error. If I disconnect the ethernet cable from the router to my computer everything works perfect.I tried to reinstall the CD that came with the router and as I try to get through step 2 it says no router detected.I think this is my hold up but I have no way to know how to fix this. I tried to go on the Netgear website and they tell me that I have to be able to connect to the internet to download through the router. Well I can't do that because obviously that is the hangup. If I click on my Network Connections. It shows my computer connected to a Network with limited capability and then a big red X going to the internet.

Oct 23, 2011I recently bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router. The wired network is working fine, but the wireless network is giving me problems I don't understand.
I am using the following equipment to connect to the wireless network:
- Samsung Galaxy S2 mobilefoon (supports N speeds)
- Asus laptop (supports G speeds)
With both devices I want to connect to the 2.4 Ghz (b/g/n) wireless network with the following settings:
- Channel: auto
- Speed: 145 Mps max.
- Security: WPA2-PSK [AES]
- Preamble modus: long
- Fragmentation length: 2346
- CTS/RTS: 2347
Latest firmware has been installed.
Here is what happens:
- When resetting the router to factory settings I can connect with both devices mentioned (security is not enabled)
- When setting the WPA2 security key for the first time, I can connect with both devices.
- When I try to connect with either device for the second time I cannot connect, messages (from mobile phone):

And then a loop is present that keeps trying to connect, but almost never succeeds. Maybe once in a hundred attempts. When a connection is made, it works fine for as long as the connections stays present. After the connection is broken, it all starts over again. The 5 Ghz network is behaving exactly the same (only tested with my mobile phone, laptop doesn't support 5Ghz network).
I have lowered the speeds and tried different channels, but behavior stays the same.

One is currently wired to one of the airport extremes LAN ports...Now what I am trying to achieve - the second xbox is an old one so needs to be plugged in by cable too... (and I don't want two cables through the house). I have an old Netgear wpn824v2 router. Now so far I plugged the ethernet cable from airport x into one of the lan ports on the Netgear...Then both xboxs are wired into the netgear... The netgear has basically nothing setup on it - no security etc... ip address is on the same network as DHCP router.Netgear has upnp and dhcp disabled...Now stand alone one xbox at a time, the connection is actually faster than I have ever achieved, the full 50mb - but if i wire up my laptop to the netgear and use the internet at the same time the xbox lags like hell, so obviously not tried both xboxs together yet as it will just cause lag!
