how to block a dynamic wireless IP address or the SSID of a wireless connection from accessing my router?
I have 2 people that have somehow managed to get access and i wish to discard them so they cannot reconnect. My wireless router is a Netgear WPN824 and i am running Windows XP.
My router stopped working today after I tried updating its firmware. I have tried to hard reset the router but it just won't broadcast a signal. Is there any hardware problems related to this or are there any other ways to reset it?

I don't know if this is a common problem but I cannot seem to find it on the web and thought I would ask here. The problem seems to only happen after someone restarts their computer.
What happens is 9/10 times on startup the internet will connect just fine but the 10% of the time it will say "Unable to connect to Shaun" (my wireless router) Sometimes if we restart the computer it will fix itself but usually we have to reset the router and it will fix itself and wont happen again for another couple of weeks.
I called comcast about it and their tech support said it was a router issue, that's when I put in my newer one (the rangemax) and its still happening. We even upgraded the comcast modem recently too, and since it fixes itself when I reset the router I don't doubt its the router.
I can't seem to update the firmware on it, not sure if that will work. (It says not enough memory to complete) Should I buy a new router?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing some problems with my RangeMax wireless NETGEAR router (model WPN824) in terms of wireless connectivity. When directly plugged into my router (i.e. using ethernet cables), the download and upload speed (in mbps - megabytes per second) appear to be working correctly, where we register average download speeds of 15-19 mbps, and 1.99 to 2.07 mbps for upload speeds, as shown on speedtest.net. However, our wireless devices (i.e. laptops and Nintendo Wii) are not picking up the same download speeds, but the upload speed is fine. The problem is that the download speeds of the wireless devices are comparatively low, where speeds of 2.5 to 5.5 mbps are a commonality.
We've tried resetting the router (pushing that small button at the back of the router, using a pin) and have a new 10-character key password. We've also tried simply unlugging the power cable to the router, with disconnecting lengths of about 10 seconds to over a minute for separate attempts. It is also worth noting that the router occasionally disconnects and re-connects on irregular intervals, and we have many wireless devices attached to the router (though many of these are not in use and are very often disconnected from the internet, so I do not think the router is being overwhelmed).
I am currently paying for 30 mbps downloading speed and 2 mbps with respect to uploading, though the 30 mbps downloading speed will likely only be registered if directly connected to the black box (modem). As such, values of 10 to 18 mbps for downloading speed for a wireless device would be considered "normal". Why would our wireless devices not pick the correct mbps download speed? Is it possible that there is a setting on the NETGEAR SMARTWIZARD page (192.168.1.1) that is preventing this?
I have a Netgear WPN824 v2 wireless router. The router login page has become horribly slow recently but the rest of the network seems unaffected. Some times the page doesn't even load all the way or properly, such as with a standard font and options missing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery day around the same time the SSID for my wireless network disappears. I'm using a Netgear wnr2000v3. Prior to this I was using a Linksys router, which did the same thing... only more frequently (2-3 times a day).Between smartphones and laptops, there are about 6 devices connected to the network. They all lose their connection and cannot find the broadcasted SSID when this happens.Because it happens around the same time each day, it makes me think that it has something to do with the DHCP lease, which is 24 hours. Just a thought, as I don't really know how that works.

After a few days i got multiple complaints that the users kept getting disconnected from Xbox live after i installed this firewall. I have noticed that it only does it to the xbox, computers and laptops are working great. I also noticed that, 5 or 10 sec. before the router goes out. The firewalls indicator lights all light-up at the same time. Then it resets and the connection restores itself. It happens mostly when using Netflix through the xbox. I have tried port forwarding but it seemed like it made it worst.

I'm running both the 2.4 GHz and the 5.0 GHz networks over the same SSID. The goal, obviously, is to get everything over to N if possible. I've heard that wireless N has much better signal and transfer rates, is this true? Also, is running the two different frequencies with the same SSID problematic? It's kind of strange, because my Nexus One is having a difficult time staying connected to the network in my office while the main workstation laptop in the same room is getting a much better signal.

What's interesting is that both are running on the 2.4 GHz networks, essentially both not on the wireless n network, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of things. Is it bad to run both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz networks with the same SSID? If using a network repeater, is it bad to rebroadcast the original network with the same SSID as the source network? It seems that the 5.0 GHz network is getting "clobbered" by the 2.4 GHz network. Is it really necessary for me to broadcast using different SSIDs?
I have a Linksys E2500 Firmware Version: 1.0.03 and am using the "IPSec Passthrough" for work. On a typical day I'll sign in to my work's VPN, do my work, sign off in the evening, and read my personal email with a direct connection to the internet.
Then on the next morning, I am unable to connect to work until I go to http://192.168.1.1/index.asp and click "reboot." And as soon as the modem finishes rebooting, my laptop can connect to work. I've tried this several days in a row now, and indeed all I need to do to get the VPN passthrough working is rebooting the modem.
Nothing under "Applications & Gaming" is set. I've seen some posts about having a trigger on UDP port 500, but I'm not quite sure how to translate it for the E2500. Plus I'd rather the router "just work" day after day for VPN and everything else, like my old router did! Is there some other setting to try or clearer directions for a bulletproof IPSec passthrough on that unit?
I just picked up the E4200 to replace a router, I can remote desktop into a computer that is physically connected to this router, but cannot remote desktop into other computers on the network that are connected via another switch.

I tried to change it and messed it up bad. Everyime I sign on to "naular" it makes "Naular 2" then Naular 2 3 then Naular 2 3 4 etc. Then I only get local access. we have a WLC 4404, Software Version 4.2.61.0 and the following Problem. The WLC worked for many years with the SSID "SKHGR". In addition to the existing SSID I have a second SSID "SKHGR-M" is created. The configuration of the two SSID's is identical.

i have a linsys wrt54g router. my main computer is connected (wired) and works fine. until today my wireless devices were able to connect and access the internet using the router. now the ssid does not show as a possible network connection. i have unplugged everything, rest the router, checked setting, shutdown and reset every computer and all my wireless devices still cant locate the network connection???

I connected the Router to the modem, and all the wired connected PCs were working perfectly.But then, i went to the setup page to configure the Wireless settings, and as soon I changed the SSID name, the connection internet connection droppedThe only way i had to fix this was by making a Hard Reset.after that, I also tryed changing values and settings from all the configuration tabs, and the wired connection was working properly, but as soon i changed any value from the Wireless tab, the internet connection dropped (even, in the diagnostics section, i could not do a ping to google. I enabled inbound logging on my router and all of a sudden it shows me this picture of a blocked connection to port 80(even though the ports are forwarded).

They were on the phone with tech support from their service provider and "had them reset the modem." This is basically all I could get as they are not very tech oriented.
From what I gathered: The modem and the router are not communicating with each other. The modem is a Motorola ADSL single port Ethernet modem, and the router is a Netgear Rangemax wireless router WPN824 v3 with the modem connected via the uplink port on the router. Whenever the ethernet cable to the PC is plugged directly into the modem, there is a connection. I exhausted my entire networking knowledge trying to figure out what could be causing this.
I am currently at university, using a Local Area Connection. I am aware that the university blocks torrenting which I am totally fine with though when I try to carry out a process such as posting a large entry on Livejournal.com or Dreamwidth.org, it tries to load for a couple seconds and then fails. When in Google Chrome, it says that it's "uploaded 100%" but then I receive "Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out.". When using Internet Explorer, it either doesn't load at all or I get the standard "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". When I try to carry out a different process on dreamwidth and livejournal (editing my layout), Chrome tells me "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset." These issues always happen no matter when I try them.

View 6 Replies View RelatedCurrently I have the modem into an apple airport extreme, this provides WiFi to the whole house + has a NAS drive connected to it...I have two x box's on the top floor of the house... One is currently wired to one of the airport extremes LAN ports...Now what I am trying to achieve - the second xbox is an old one so needs to be plugged in by cable too... (and I don't want two cables through the house). I have an old Netgear wpn824v2 router. Now so far I plugged the ethernet cable from airport x into one of the lan ports on the Netgear...Then both xboxs are wired into the netgear... The netgear has basically nothing setup on it - no security etc... ip address is on the same network as DHCP router.Netgear has upnp and dhcp disabled...Now stand alone one xbox at a time, the connection is actually faster than I have ever achieved, the full 50mb - but if i wire up my laptop to the netgear and use the internet at the same time the xbox lags like hell, so obviously not tried both xboxs together yet as it will just cause lag!

Until yesterday my various equipment was networking to each other and the internet without a problem. After i reset my d-link DSL-2640B router (would this initiate an update?) my x-box would not connect to the internet, There is no problem connecting to the router and the home network. Everything is talking to each other and everything else is connected to the internet including the TV. The router must just be blocking the x-box and only from yesterday. I checked ports that are talked about and i think i set up port triggering, but then noticed the firewall is disabled anyway.

As Far as I can tell When it drops its still connected to the Wireless network.. it just says local only and Gives me the limited connectivity warning.. When I diagnose the issue it tells me a number of different things and it tells me to renew the IP settings and sometimes that will work and sometimes not.. The laptop is a HP Pavilion DV9000 with all original hardware.
