NIC Disables When Connected Through Switch
Feb 13, 2012
My computers Network adapter (integrated with the motherboard 'no fancy stuff') disables, though only when I'm putting a bit of pressure on the system. i.e. when playing skyrim etc.I have resolved the issue temporarily by connecting straight to the computer instead of the inbetween switch, but at the cost of only being able to connect this computer at home. The strange thing in my opinion however is that when we have 3-4 computers all connected through the switch, only this one has this error that keeps occuring.I've checked into the power savings settings, as I'm conviced it's some kind of setting on my machine, and set them to max performance as well as disabling windows from beeing able to disable the NIC to save power.

1. Internet works ok, everything is fine, but then it stops working for no reason.
2. I open Network and Sharing Center, and do diagnostics. They come up with result: "the default gateway is not available". Nothing works. But Local Area Connection and Network Controller are both enabled.
3. I have to restart computer for the internet to work again. However, it doesn't restart: it hangs forever in "shutting down" screen, and nothing happens. Probably because computer is still trying to connect to the internet (?)
4. After forced restart, internet doesn't work, but if I run diagnostics again, they come up with result: "The Local Area Connection adapter is disabled", and fixes it automatically. Internet works then.

Whichever download manager I use, when ever it starts downloading for a bit it somehow manages to disable the wifi on my router. This makes it impossible for me to leave things going over night which is annoying. It happens with IDM and Jdownloader.

We have a customer running a RV 120W, and if the internet connection is disconnected it disables NAT, and you have to log on to the setup and enable it again. This is very annoying if the net connection goes down as you have to manually fix, why it does this and how to make it enable NAt by default?

I've been trying to use my laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad Y580) as a wireless adapter for my Xbox 360 by bridging the LAN/Wireless networks and connecting the Xbox to the laptop via Ethernet. The wireless works fine normally, but when I plug the Ethernet cable into the computer, the laptop automatically disables WiFi and changes to a LAN connection. It doesn't give any options whatsoever to reconnect to wireless, just forces me to use the Ethernet connection. As soon as the cable is removed the wireless connection returns, but for what I'm trying to do to work, I need both LAN and wireless to be working simultaneously, and the wireless providing the Internet connection. I've also tried connecting the laptop to a router via Ethernet and received the same result, so I'm pretty sure it's something on the laptop that's causing it. Is there a way to change this so the laptop can use the wireless connection while plugged into another device via Ethernet?

I have the exact same problem: network adapter disconnects itself and I am unable to disable and enable it again, because it is unresponsive under the device manager and the network and sharing center. The only solution is to reboot the computer, where I can then have access to the network adapter and can reset it.This is since I upgraded windows vista to windows 7 4 days ago. I have upgraded all the driversI have uninstalled the network adapter driver and rebooted, and reinstalled the latest update with no difference.Running the computer in safe mode with networking has not yielded a crash so far, but have not tested this enough.I have tried disabling IPV6 as some people have said this could be reason, but it still crashes. It is somewhat different from what many people mention as I cannot reset the connection without rebooting (which I could live with). I do not use torrents or any site like that.

I have a Lenovo G550 laptop with Windoows 7. For the past year it has been periodically (every 5-10 minutes) losing connection with a wireless network. It doesnt matter what network I use , it does the same thing. When the connection is lost it will also cause any other wifi devices (computers, phones) to lose there connection and have to reconnect. I have tried just about anything and everything including using an external usb wifi.

I have an RVS4000 setup with a VLAN to a wireless "guest" network, guest network is 192.168.1.x, internal network is 10.0.0.x both have Internet access, and cannot see each other, exactly what I wanted. The only problem is that either from the internal network or the guest network I can no longer access the Remote Web Workplace - [URL] or Outlook Web Access [URL] fails with page not found. Internally I can access via \server emote and \serverexchange but of course this does not work for the guest network. We have Small Business Server 2003. External access if fine.

We are trying to take ADSL interface into another VRF i.e (ip vrf forwarding VRF2 under dialer interface), the ip address negotiated command disappears, and although the dialer interface becomes up-up state, the adsl interface does not get an IP address dynamically.
Tried:
1) to reenter ip address negotiated again after changing the vrf of the interface, still the dialer interface shows "no ip address" under configuration
2) ppp ipcp accept-address again does not work.

My Dell Lattitude E6420 WIFI adapter disables anytime I plug my laptop into the adapter and electric wall outlet. It has the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 adapter. I've downloaded the latest drivers, updated the power settings on the adapter etc. it's becoming a real problem as I often have to be mobile moving from office to office and up having to stay on battery power until it almost dies to avoid having to go into Device Manager each time I plug back into to re-Enable my adapter.

I am experiencing the same problem described in this post {URL}. I have seen this happen on different networks, with different equipment attached. It happens on both 2960 and 3750 switches. Basically the connection drops, and we see in the web interface "Port is Disabled". This appears to happen every 10 minutes.
On the CLI, the status shows as connected.
Port Name Status V lan Duplex Speed Type
Fa0/38 connected 1 a-full a-100 10/100BaseTX
I have ran cable diagnostics while the drop out is occurring.
Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ----------------- ----------- -------------------
Fa0/38 100M Pair A 28 +/- 15 meters Pair B Normal
[code]...
During the outage, I see the duplex fluctuate between full and half. The outage occurs for approx 90 seconds. If I fix the duplex and speed at both ends, the outage reduces to around 30 seconds. If I apply spanning-tree port fast the outage reduces further to around 10 seconds. Before I change any configuration on the port, the logs show the interface going down
Aug 16 13:06:51.875: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet0/38, changed state to down
Aug 16 13:06:52.874: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface FastEthernet0/38, changed state to down
[code]...
However, once I apply the configuration nothing is logged. However we can still see the connection is disappearing for around 10 seconds. I suspect the issue wasn't resolved for the person reporting the problem in the link above, but because the outage is minimized, and not being logged it is going unnoticed.

I have recently purchased an EA4500 router. I assigned my sons XBOX a static IP via DHCP reservation (outside of the standard DHCP range). I set up single port forwarding on all the standard xbox required ports. Once I click the "enabled" box, I am unable to access the internet from any of the computers connected to the router. If I uncheck the enable box, I am instantly able to access the internet.

I am trying to enable the workgroup bridge mode on the 5ghz 802.11N radio of a Aironet 1262N, but when I select the workgroup bridge mode from the GUI the radio becomes disabled. If I select the Access Point role from the GUI then the radio instantly becomes enabled. The same thing happens if I attempt the same procedure with the 2.4ghz radio as well. I can get the radios from both bands enabled if I select the Access Point role. I made sure to check that both radios were not set to workgroup bridge as well. I am running 12.4(25d)JA1 code on the AP. This is my first time working with this type of AP.

Basically, my home network is comprised of a WRT54GS Router which the cable modem and my main computer are plugged into (as well as vonage, networked printer). That leaves one port open which is used to connect a Dlink DES-1105 10/100 switch. I am connecting it using a crossover cable, though that was not necessary.I just noticed that a computer connected to that switch gets MUCH less download speeds at speedtest.net, and it gets STUCK on the upload test (doesn't even start).I unplugged it and plugged it directly into the router for testing. I get 20-30 megs down (like I should), rather than 5-11 like the switch gave me (ONCE the switch gave me over 20, not sure why..)The upload test NEVER runs though. I've tried different computers as well. I tried setting the computer to "100 full duplex" manually and no luck.

From the broadband modem/router connected with a Gigabit 8 port unmanaged switch. Then, one WAP4410N is connected to the switch, wired connection for a distance of 90 meters. WAP4410N is set as an access point to the area. Then the second WAP4410N will be run as a repeater to the first WAP4410N. My question is that, can we set the second WAP4410N as a repeater, without the need for it to be connected to the switch via ethernet cable.

I just upgraded to GS605 Netgear gigabyte switches on my network, and I use Cat 5e cables, so I can use the gigabit Ethernet.
One of my Windows PCs seems to have a very slow connection. I see an active 1K link on the switch for this port, and Windows reports that the link is running at 1 Gbps, but the computer takes 3-5 minutes to load Amazon.com and has ping times on the order of 700 ms.
I have another Windows 8 PC that works perfectly fine, and I have a Mac mini which is also connected to the switch and works fine.
If I take the Ethernet cable from the messed up computer and connect it directly to the router (not the switch), it is fast again. However, connected to the router, I'm back to 100 Mbps speeds, not gigabit speeds.ipconfig gives the following output:
-Hostname: my computer's hostname
-Node type: hybrid
-IP routing enabled: no
-WINS proxy enabled: no
-IP address: my computer's DHCP address
-MAC address: my computer's MAC address
-Default gateway: my router's IP
-DHCP server address: my router's address
-IPv6 address: something long (I'm not familiar with IPv6 addresses)
-Various tunneling adapters, which are all disabled
I have had other computers in the same port on the switch and they all work fine. I also plugged this computer into a different port and had the same problem. Netgear tech support wasn't useful.I actually have another switch of the same model, but when I replaced this one with that one, it had the same problem.
I confirmed gigabit speeds between two other computers, both connected to this switch, so it does work at those speeds. Those computers also have fast Internet.I don't have any clones MAC addresses in my network, and as for logs.... the only place I can think is the log file from the router. I didn't even think of that, the only other place would be event viewer within windows. This computer dual boots Windows 7 and Windows 8, and has these issues in both OSes.

We have a 3750X VTP Server and the rest of the switches are clients.
Due to cabling issues, we have a switch (Switch F) that we can't connect directly to the 3750X so we have it connected through another switch. Everything is set to VTP client with the correct domain and password but this not-directly-connected switch isn't receiving any VTP VLANs.
Anything I need to do on Switch D so that Switch F can receive the VTP updates?
